Last night we were about to go out to do some errands and saw that my car was oddly slanting down at an angle. Turns out that I had a flat tire. Luckily, we weren't driving and our car was parked at our parking structure. The culprit was an obvious screw. I remembered I had my AAA card and downloaded the app which was easy to use. After the usual registration for an app, I followed the prompts to schedule service for a flat tire. Almost immediately after, I received a call for a confirmation that their technician was on the way. Within the hour, they had a tow truck out and fixed my flat. Suspicious through and through. My plan has been on auto renewal for years at a discounted rate. This year I was asked to update my payment information due to an expiring card. When I did, I was taken off auto renewal and and the online portal would not update my card number. I have been sent multiple mailings reminding me to pay when I had already updated the card online several times so I had to call in to renew. The person who answered the phone played stupid not knowing what I was asking about and proceeded to TRY to over-talk me while I was explaining the issue. Take note, your auto renewal discounts are being cancelled on subsequent renewals. It's not a lot of money but it's a few dollars that you were not paying before. read more

AAA Honolulu's office is located along Nimitz near Best Buy and various other shopping and restaurants. They have free parking in the shopping center as well as dedicated spots right outside the doors for quick trips. Every experience I've had here has been positive; check in is simple, and the office is rarely busy. Be sure to ask for your free maps and guide books. They offer travel planning services, notary, and other general services at this location. AAA beyond the office itself offers discounts for travel, concerts, movie tickets, restaurants, and hotels, so be sure to take advantage wherever you can. Depending on membership level, you also get so many car assistance calls a year for everything from being locked out, needing a tow, to battery services. For battery services, they do a full computer diagnostic, replace when needed, you pay there, then you're on your way. Their warranties are better than any store and that includes free replacements for the life of the battery. AAA is a must for everyone! read more

AAA dispatched a service worker, for roadside services for my vehicle.I was greeted with a welcoming voice, identified as Amber. Amber gave me the approximate time me service will arrive. Eventhough I appreciated the promptness of the arrival, most of what I am keenly impressed by was the high level of respect towards me and generally kind yet professional. She had a steady focus on addressing my car concerns while anticipating what I will need next. I recommend Amber's type of service to the general population especially to us senior citizens...Great professionalism, knowledgable, respectful and kind...wish other organizations promoted and highly valued this type of relations to their customers! Not really about AAA insurance, but more about AAA Auto Club Hawaii. So, I lost my wallet ... sucks ... and in an endeavor to start replacing cards and such, I called the 800 number on the AAA website, FROM my Hawaii cell phone WHILE standing on terra firma IN HAWAII. Well, I got someone in Yonkers New York who could not help me. He (the guy in NY) said he would transfer me to Hawaii, and after a few minutes I got a VOICE MAIL. AYFKM?! No option to hold or dial '0' for an operator, just leave a message and we (may) call you back. They go on to provide a couple of extensions which belong to people in the office. Surprise, surprise - no one picks those up. In desperation, I called the number for the office on Nimitz, and someone pickup up. Deeann was actually very helpful - but there is no situation where it should be so difficult to get a live human being. To add insult to injury, I have been bombarded with emails since the call this morning ... thanking me for 39 years, trying to sell me different products blah blah blah. One of them with the hubris to show a subject line touting their "Legendary" customer service. Unbelievable how far our societal disconnect has become. read more

So I was at a tattoo shop with my friend and while he was getting his tattoo done I decided to grab some food, but when I tried to start my car it kept stalling. I assumed the battery or starter was busted because one of my other friends came by and tried to help me jump it but nothing happened. That led me to call AAA and get it towed to my house. I was told that it would take about an hour and half for a tow truck to arrive. 25-30 minutes later I get a call from Lima and I go to meet up with him. I was surprised because I wasn't expecting anyone to arrive for another hour or so. He asked me what happened to the car so I explained to him what happened. I thought he was just gunna hook my car up to the truck and tow me home.. but he actually tried to help me figure out what the main problem was. He was able to pinpoint that the main problem was that my alternator was dead and that I would still need a tow. Which saved me from buying a new battery/starter. The tow home was comfortable and Lima was very hospitable and down to earth. The other times I've gotten towed from other companies/drivers it's usually just a quick tow and drop off with an awkward quiet drive so it was nice to receive excellent service for once. Hopefully I won't have to call AAA anytime soon but from this experience alone I'd be happy to call them anytime I need roadside assistance! AAA is located in the Nimitz Business Center, first floor on the side closest to home Depot. Great location! I am a member and have been for quote awhile and one of the perks of my membership is free maps. I have come here a few times to get maps and travel books for trips and so far have always had great customer service. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I've never had a long wait either to talk to someone. Now being a member, I also do get auto services/calls for free. I have had to use it a few times and one of the great things is since Oahu is not that large, no matter where you are stuck or need help, you are in their range of help, I think it's like 90 miles or so. I have needed a jump start, a tow and getting the keys I locked in the car. Each time, the representative has been speedy and quite helpful. I have had noting but good experiences with AAA. I recommend everyone to join and become members. ^_^*~ read more

So as for their roadside service, they are pretty good. They come out , tow your car, done. My longest wait was 6 hours. My shortest was 1 hour. This is about when they make a mistake. Mistakes happen. Just gotta fix your mistakes. Right?? On my last tow, AUGUST 2019, they backed up into my car & caused some damage. AAA driver with the AAA truck, (not subcontractor), said no problem, call the office & it'll be taken care of. So I called. To drastically shorten this review, it is now SEPTEMBER 2020 & it is still not resolved. They are giving me the run around. They made me go out & get estimates, which by the way, are difficult to get. Nobody gives "free estimates" anymore. And, most body shops deal directly with the insurance companies & don't do outside jobs. AAA is still asking for random information occasionally, when they do actually get in touch by email. It's over a year now. I just want my car fixed. I'm not asking for anything else. Just for my car to be fixed!!! So the original repair estimates have long been expired, the cost has probably gone up. Are they going to ask me to get estimates again? I have given them everything they have asked for up until now. Now they are asking for my current mileage. Why? So they can look up the value & try & pay me off? I don't want a new car, unless THEY pay for a brand new one in full!!! I have kept my car in excellent running condition so that it'll last. If this is their response to making a claim, what does that say about the other insurance policies they try to sell you? What about a claim on your life insurance policy? Are they going to give you the run around until you're dead? So they don't have to pay? This is ridiculous. It's an unofficial bucket list item of mine to drive on the left side of the road in a right hand drive car. Luckily, this is the place to make it happen. Or well, sort of. Immediately after stepping into the office, I was greeted. With my form in-hand, the woman at the counter could already tell what I was there for. I was about 5 minutes away from getting my international driving permit. I handed over my pre-filled and printed form, driver license, and booklet of passport photos (taken at Costco for $5). It wasn't long until the international driving permit was fully filled out with my information. Put up $20 flat, and I was out the door just as fast as it took me to walk in. The service was impeccible and very efficient. My license will only last a year, so I will not hesitate to say I will be back for a renewal sometime again. read more

A AAA customer backed into my truck in Kona, i filed the claim on site, got pictures, their customer admitted fault and i have not been able to get a single person on the phone for claims. Need an international drivers license? AAA made it quick and easy! Printed the application online, brought it to the store, and got it the same day. You do need two passport photos (I got mine at Costco or Longs aka CVS), your license, and your application when you go. You can also mail it in, but the nice lady that helped me said that it does take about two weeks to get to you. So if you need it quick, going into the store is the way to go. I believe that there's only one location on Nimitz, at Nimitz Center. There's free parking right outside of the store. Definitely will come back to this location if I ever need an international drivers permit again. read more

Still satisfied! Had a nail on my tire. I got a call from Anu of Sylva's Towing who estimated he would be by in about 45 minutes. He came sooner than that. He saw the nail in my tire and thought if he put more air in that the air should hold. So we didn't need to change to my spare. AAA doesn't plug tires anymore and I was already advised of this when I made my initial call to AAA. So right after that I called the nearest service station who could take me right away and was able to plug my tire in5 minutes. Got locked out of my car because someone tried breaking into the only keyhole. I was stuck in Haleiwa starting at 1:30. I gave AAA a call and explained what happened and the woman, I can't remember her name all too well I believe it either started with an E or a K, could not for the love of God understand what Haleiwa was. I explained I was next to Matsumoto Shave Ice and she didn't understand where that was. Next place i gave her was Teddy's Bigger Burgers. She asked which location and I said as clear as day, Haleiwa. After she asked me to repeat several times, I spelt it out for her. Afterwards, she asked for my card info to charge me for the service which she somehow understood perfectly. Later, I get a call saying my driver was dispatched and he asked to clarify if I was at Teddy's in Wahiawa. I said "no, I'm next to the Haleiwa location." He understood and said he was gonna be 45 minutes since he's coming from town. Then, 30 minutes later he calls me saying he's going to take a job at Kaneohe first but he'll try get someone else to take me so i won't have to wait over an hour longer. About 45 minutes later I get another call from a tow driver also named Daniel. He said, "i'm here at Wahiawa Teddy's but i can't seem to find you." I said, "I already explained I never was at Haleiwa to the first two people I spoke to." He responds "oh they told me Wahiawa." Now, I told someone I share the AAA membership with what's going on and they gave them a call and explained to her they're taking long because "he gave us the wrong address." Now i've been waiting for over two and a half hours and i call back the driver who was at Teddy's Wahiawa and he said he doesn't cover Haleiwa side despite it being a 20 minute drive from where he's at. He claims another driver should call soon that can cover Haleiwa. I got a call but instead it was from a man claiming he needs to charge me for the service that never came. I said I already gave them my info and the driver never came. I don't know who hires someone who doesn't know what Haleiwa is, and who takes a job from the other side of the island and ditches me. Overall, worst experience needing a tow I ever had. I wish I could remember the names of those two so they could be punished accordingly. AAA is the best! I,very had their service for 10 years. My car stalled Friday afternoon in kaneohe. Made the trouble call, and got a tow in 20 minutes, the tow company was contracted out , the driver kapono was very professional , hooked up my car and we were on our way. I,ve also had AAA fix a flat, open locked doors, and replace a battery. I don't why one wouldn't have AAA today, its peace of mind, if you have car problems you,re one call away from getting immediate , curteous, professional assistance. read more

I've actually only physically been here in person once, when my bf replaced his insurance card. Yesterday, I was going to go down to the office in person, but something came up and I couldn't leave my house. I was actually able to purchase new car insurance over the phone! Before the age of my car began to show, I never knew the value of a AAA membership until the day it started acting up. AAA is known for their many perks like discounts on travel deals (car rental, hotels, flights, maps, theme park discounts, gas, car insurance etc.), and other variations of services. What became more vital in my use are the Roadside Assistance and Auto Repair discounts. I can recall a few services within Roadside Assistance AAA has provided with one being most recent and memorable. It's what sparked me to finally write this review. After noticing my car lights flickering while on idle and my navigation system would no longer stay on, I knew immediately it was time to call AAA. I called on a Tuesday night and a AAA customer service assisted me with my concern and immediately calls a technician to my pinned location. It's amazing how far technology has come and now I can track the technician through my mobile phone. Not nearly 20 minutes after my call, Jonathan arrives in a van. Jonathan knew his way around my car and all I did was stood there scared beyond my wits at what would be another expensive car repair. He not only ran a battery diagnostic but also diagnosed my car in its entirety. After learning that I may have a minor repair needed, Jonathan called the tow truck to have my car taken to my nearby mechanic. I don't know anything about cars and the print out Jonathan supplied me was beyond useful for my car repair. He explained everything in conjunction to the print out and all the recommendations to make our repair simplified from little to no surprise. The battery replacement prior to this incident was hassle free along with the repair discounts applied at my mechanic. Membership limits do apply in the matter; remember to read the fine prints. Overall, the one year membership fee pays out quickly for their excellent customer service, the travel discounts and especially Roadside Assistance. This review may not be about the AAA location; but for the service conducted by AAA Hawaii itself. Having a membership is worth it for the sanity and worry free process from beginning to the end. I needed roadside assistance recently.and called AAA. call center operator was friendly and knowledgeable of area and cross streets,took all my info and said a tow truck (contra cted by AAA) would be there in a hour.20 minutes later I get a call from the tow truck operator saying he's coming and to verify my location.all the while I get a text with a map of his location.he arrives and offers me a sandwich,because it was early in the morning 8:30am.i declined cause I had gotten something while waiting.but how Cool!! As I was leaving for work on November 29th 2018, I called AAA because my battery was dead. The guy showed up after more than a hour. He tested my battery and it was dead. He told me that it needed to be replaced but he didn't have any batteries with him and asked if I wanted him to see if another AAA driver had one. I said OK. Then he changed his mind and told me that he'd better not because if my alternator was bad it would damage the new battery and he didn't have anything to test my alternator. (!?!) So he left and I missed a days work (and a days pay). My personal mechanic was kind enough to pick up a battery for me and come to my house and install it, and my car started up right away. Of course, there was nothing wrong with the alternator. When I asked AAA why he wouldn't provide me with a battery they told me that they only do that if they happen to have one with them.!!! It had been my understanding that AAA carries batteries to replace dead ones so that you can get on your way. Anyway, so they offered an apology, but no compensation- not even a discount off my renewal which is coming up this February. Needless to say, I'll just be adding roadside service to my automobile insurance and cancelling AAA. read more

November 13, 12011, 1:30 P.M. - APEC Sunday. "CRACK!! BOOM!! CRACK!!" My friend: "What's that sound? What is wrong with your car?" Me: "I don't know, but it doesn't sound good! Let me drive a little further." "CRACK!! BOOM!! CRACK!!" Me: "I don't know what is wrong, but I think it best that I find a safe place to park and then call a towing company. I don't think it is safe to drive my car." My friend: "Oh no! How will we get home? Can't you fix your car? I thought all men knew how to fix cars? Can you call your mechanic? What about all my jewelry in the cases? [1] Oh no! I need to make sure I don't forget the Wheat Thins in the back of your car [2]." [1] My friend and her husband were sellers at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet on Sunday. I was their ride that dropped them off; picked them up and was taking them home. My station wagon was packed full with all their stuff. [2] Women think of the strangest things in times of crisis. My friend's husband: "I have an AAA Premier membership. Since we are passengers in your car, AAA will tow your car for FREE!" My friend: "OK! I'll call AAA." AAA Roadside Assistance Dispatcher: "Hello! How may I help you?" My friend: "Hi! We have a Premier membership. We are passengers in my friend's car. His car is full of our things because we just finished selling at the swap meet. His car is very heavy because he has all of our stuff in his stationwagon.... I think that is why we are having car trouble. I don't know where we are but we need a tow.... I don't know how we will all get back.....Can you send someone to fix his car?" [3] [3] This is the short version of what my friend said. See [2]. AAA RA Dispatcher: "Where are you? If I know where you are I can send a tow truck right now." Me: "We are parked in front of the Papa Johns in Mapunapuna. It is a cross street near the end of Mapunapuna." AAA RA Dispatcher: "I think you are on Paa Street. I will send a tow truck. Please be patient. This is APEC Sunday and many of the roads and freeway will be shutdown at 2:00 P.M." 15 minutes later there is a call from the AAA Dispatcher: "This is a 15 minute courtesy update. The tow truck has been dispatched and should be there within 15 minutes. Thank you for your patience?" 12 minutes later the tow truck arrives. It is a flatbed tow truck capable of hauling a tank. I think the dispatcher sent a flatbed because my friend made it sound like her stuff weighed a ton. [3] I was surprised!! Tow truck driver: "What's wrong with the car? Can you start and drive the car?" "CRACK!! BOOM!! CRACK!!" Tow truck driver: "OK! Where do you want it towed? Me: "My auto mechanics shop is on Kona Street close to the Office Depot. The problem is how will 4 people fit in the 3 person cab of your tow truck? What if my two friends sit in the cab and I sit in my station wagon?" Tow truck driver: "Are you sure? OK! Drive your car on the flatbed after I tilt the bed." I'm excited. This is really cool. How many people have driven their cars onto the bed of a tilted flatbed? This is a real test of my driving skills. I get the car on the bed with no problem. WOW I'm good!! The tow driver straps down the car. I put on my seatbelt and off we go!! This is super cool. I feel like I'm riding on top of a double decker bus in London. The view from this height is fantastic. This is the coolest tow I have ever had in my life. I call my friends cell phone so that she can give the driver directions on where my mechanics shop is. She hands the phone to the driver. [4] I tell the driver to give the phone back to her. I tell my friend the driver can get a ticket for using the phone while he drives. There are cops everywhere. [4] Women think of Wheat Thins but don't think of important things in times of crisis. We get to my closed, mechanics shop and I back the car off the flatbed ramp and park the car. The AAA driver had two pending tows but was nice enogh to drop my two friends off at their home. He was the friendliest, most helpful and courteous tow truck driver around. Summary: I think that AAA provided excellent roadside assistance. From start to finish they were very helpful, accommodating and understanding of the car owner's and his passengers needs. I was very impressed. Women are cool and strange creatures. Though a crisis, I think this turned out to be the tow ride of a lifetime. Sad but true: So we are out and about on my wife's day off taking care of business in Honolulu. Parked for an appointment in the Queens POB 3 office building. Back to the car and turn the key...click, click, click....click, click click...car battery is dead. I've heard that sound before. I know its not gonna start. I currently don't have an emergency tow or roadside assistance card. OK, OK who should I call? The battery is still under warranty but it's dead. So what do I do now? How much is this gonna cost me?! AAA pops up on my yelp app under roadside assistance. Membership: But, Im not a member. Well, I'll call them first and explain my situation and go from there. Here is the scoop. You don't have to be a member. They will send a battery specialist out for $70. Or you can sign up on the phone for AAA membership for $77 and you get 4 roadside assistance or towing services per year. I'll be using up one service when the guy comes out to help me today. So I go for the $77 membership.They quickly took my info over the phone. Painless!! Auntie Lei: They are local!! I can't stress this enough. She speaks my language and understood me! She knew where I was!! I didn't have to spell Beretania or Kaneohe. And she was so nice. Just when I was stressed out and not knowing how I was going to get my car started....I find myself talking to a Hawaiian angel. She was so sweet and kind. (FYI: I had a different towing/assistance card before. You call a mainland 800 # and talk to someone who can't understand Hawaiian street names). Battery Will, Battery Will : So they don't send a whole tow truck when you are 99% sure it's a dead battery. They have a battery specialist who has a small pickup. He even carries new batteries. I was given the option of buying one and having it installed right then and there for $93. I was tempted but since I knew my battery was still under warranty I declined. I was going to drive right over to Sears and get a new battery there so I could take advantage of the pro-rated warranty. The guy's name was Will and he was great! Peace of mind: Glad I signed up for the membership. Flat tire, out of gas, locked out, need a tow etc etc. I'm covered for the next year. I feel better already. Aloha gang! This morning my car wouldn't start, didn't know the problem, called the wife, she called AAA. She got a mainland number which dispatched a driver to assist us on Hickam JBPHH. "Junior" arrived and please, if you are reading this and are in management directly knowing this service person...recognize him because he is truly an asset to the local companies in Honolulu Hawaii. He was freindly, knowledgeable and well prepared. When all it was, was that my battery needed to be replaced....he checked all my other electronic components and all were good. After he gave us the news that it was the battety, he asked if we wanted to purchase the one he had with him? So saving a tow ride to Toyota and a few hundred dollars and not having to take us to Sears for another battety... He changed it for us, disposed of it, lubed up the connectors and made sure it was secure and properly working before saying good bye. We just want to recognize "Junior" for a job well done, great customer service, awesome company to my wife and son...and an angel sent to help us in need. Thank you Junior, we appreciate you! I used to scoff at my wife's insistence that we be members of AAA. After all, my car wasn't that old, and had never given me any big trouble. I didn't think it would ever die on me on the road. Well life happens. Especially when you assume that that battery light on your dashboard just means your battery is running low. It was my alternator. It failed, and my car just konked out. Right at a busy intersection during rush hour. I reflexively called 911. A couple of HPD officers arrived on the scene pretty quickly before I exhausted my lexicon of curse words, and helped me push my car into a driveway out of harm's way. They asked me if I had a tow company to call or if they had to call one. At that moment I remembered---aaahhh. AAA. I dug through my wallet and found the handy-dandy AAA card behind a buy-10-get-1-free stamp card from some defunct restaurant. I called the number and was told that a tow truck would be there in 45 minutes. !@#$%&*?!! With even more gusto I took up my incantation of curse words, and even created new ones special for the occasion. Thankfully, it was only about 15 minutes before a truck came. The driver was very calm, and matter-of-fact. I sensed he had perfected his presentation with the so many stranded riders he had helped; calming their distress at suddenly being ride-less. He quickly hooked up my car and we were off. I paid just $6 for the extra mile beyond the 5 free miles allowed by my "Classic" AAA membership to get home. Well worth it for the trouble avoided, and a comfortable ride home. The tow to my mechanic's shop went even more smoothly. I called AAA a day before and requested a pick up of 8:30 A.M. Gave my home address and my mechanic's address. Simple. Quick. The next morning, at 7:50, I got an automated call from AAA that said the VIP Towing truck would be at my house at 8:10 A.M. Almost on the dot, I got a call from Brandon saying he was down the street approaching my house. I was glad the truck was the flat-bed type, as I didn't want my car being dragged over the no-man's-land that is Kamehameha Highway in Aiea. My mechanic's shop was only 4 miles away so the tow was FREE. With my "Classic" membership I get 4 service calls (for tows, emergency fuel delivery, jump starts, flat repair), discounted rental car rates, identity theft monitoring (?), and free domestic road maps and tour guides for $57 a year. You can cover family members for just $31/member more. That's a DEAL folks. For the peace of mind that AAA will be there in an emergency to get you and/or your loved ones out of it quickly and smoothly that's a STEAL. Thank you Honey. I scoff no more. read more

AAA Hawaii was disappointing. The service I took for granted on the mainland does not exist. No DMV services. Insurance is more than double and could not do something I needed them to do. I switched to another insurance that was half the price. Road service may be missed on the one car I could not get road service for on the new insurance. But, this is not a big island and I think I will manage if I get stuck somewhere. When I got a refund for my insurance it took forever, +2 months. They had to send it from California and they had to resend it to me twice before I got it. The people working there is nice and worked to get my problems resolved, but I will not ever use AAA in Hawaii. I just don't see the point. read more
