They worked on several of my vehicles. Replaced transmission in my blazer and never offered a warranty. Also, put a wrong part on it and couldn't figured out why it would drive crazy down the road. Only found this out when the dealer replaced the part with the correct one. Which was on the front suspension. Cost me 1,000. To find out and they wouldn't take care of the problem. Don't recommend this place. They put my family's life in danger. Plus they don't do warranty! read more

Aamco: I took my German Car there because they said they are "experts" on foreign vehicles. Mine is no longer under warranty. I trusted them because I recognized their brand name and saw their commercials. Everything was great, they were nice but my car was supposed to be done by the end of the week. It was not. It took them close to two weeks because they said they got the wrong part (some springs for a valve body were too long or something) Okay, so I call, and call and nobody is answering. I get their answering machine!!! Can you believe that? I go down there (in a taxi) and ask the manager at the counter, and he says he has to ask the mechanic, who is off today. I look and my car is not even on a lift! It's parked out back with some stuff hanging out from under neath it. In the hot blazing sun with black greasy hand prints on the hood. Unbelievable. Finally I get my car back, and it ran great for about 3 days until It starts to slip, and there is blue smoke coming out from the tail end. I took it back and they admitted the guy had not put enough transmission fluid in it!!! So it burned up my clutch packs. Smoked my transmission. I was stunned. I decided I had enough and I left. I do not trust them to even try to fix it again. I took my car back to Tradeway Transmissions. There is no substitute for going to the best. I should have never left them as a customer. Those guys are honest, fast and really know their way around ALL cars, especially Mercedes Benz's. Avoid Aamco at all costs. read more

Called to set up appt for a brake check. Mgr. set up for 8:15am following morning. I was there promptly, and waited on within a reasonable time. I have used this location in the past for a higher end vehicle, in which I was always happy with the results, mechanically, as well as financially. This was prior to Yelp. After dropping off my car, I read the Yelp reviews and was surprised by the reviews, I was also apprehensive, since I had not used their services in 4 - 5 years. Needless to say the end result was positive, my brakes were fixed and no additional unnecessary work was done. My car was ready by 1:30pm, Recommended to return in 8 months for front brake check. Very disappointed. I took my car in to have them check on my check engine light. Their ads say they do this for free. Tom, the guy at the front desk, was incredibly rude and told me that they were too busy and that I should come back tomorrow. I told him that AAMCO had recently serviced my car and that I wanted to make sure they had nothing to do with it. Beware....their starting prices for a transmission check say one thing on their price board but its actually like $30-$40 more than that price. Worst service ever seems to be the common theme here. Why? Because its true. I wish I had read these reviews before bringing my car in. Brought my Honda civic in with a 706 code for a bad transmission range switch. They put in a new switch. Before I drove fifty miles, the check engine light came back on. I went back and they put another switch in. Check engine light came on again. They told me to have the Honda dealer check out the computer. Honda confirmed the computer was good and decided to swap the range switch with one from another similar civic. It worked! No check engine light. Turns out Aamco put in an incompatible switch. Twice! I had the Honda dealer put in a new switch. The real problems began when I brought Aamco their switch back and asked for my money back, a reasonable request since the part they had installed did not fix my car. They offered to refund money for the part only, but not their labor. Completely unacceptable. Why should I pay them labor to install a wrong part that doesn't fix my car? The owner, Joe, is a belligerent jerk. He acted like an eight year old child throwing a temper tantrum. His tone started with yelling and escalated to foul language, culminating in reaching across the counter, grabbing my shirt at the neck and shoving me backwards while telling me to, "get the f*** out of here!" Tom sat there like an idiot. I left and stopped payment on my credit card. Aamco needs to know their name is tarnished by these two unprofessional idiots. Heed the warnings of all these reviews. I scheduled an appointment for an estimate. I was told I would receive a phone call later that day for information on the issue and the cost. I did not receive a call back, when I called the store was closed, so I left a message. The following day, (Sat) waited for a return call, by 10:00 am, no call. I called and the business was closed, again I left a message. I looked up online and they are closed all weekend. If I had received a call back in the first place, I would have been able to make a decision whether to leave it there or take my vehicle elsewhere. It left me very uncomfortable not knowing anything and having no communication from them regarding my only transportation. I had to contact them again on Monday, did not receive a call back so once again had to call them a second time. They gave a price and I asked about a payment plan as is stated on their website. http://www.aamco.com I was told I would receive a call back, however a lending agency called me back, not the shop. The lending agency stated they only lend a minimum amount (which was 3 times the amount of the repair) with as much as 35% interest rate, depending on credit. The website states no credit check. This is obviously false advertising. I found another repair shop to take it to. When I called to let AAMCO know my car would be picked up by another shop, a statement was made, "So you didn't qualify for payments then". What a rude assumption...I didn't apply since the website gave incorrect information. I found a shop who will take payments AND they are approximately $400.00 less than AAMCO. I did not receive an apology for not contacting me. Unprofessional and horrible customer service. I would never recommend AAMCO. read more

Very poor communication and dishonest business. I needed to get my truck smogged but service engine codes didn't allow me to pass. I took my truck to aamco where they fixed the problem with cheap parts (as another shop showed me) but charged me top dollar for the parts. They never fully reset any of the codes so the service engine light would eventually come on again... twice. They aren't concerned with helping you out, only getting your vehicle into their shop several times. Will never ever go here for anything again. read more

The front desk man told me he did not need my businees if I was going to ask him why he was going to charge me for the diagnostic on my vehicle that shows on TV that it is free. He then asked me what car I had and when I gave him the make and modle he responded with well whats the year in a horribly rude voice. He said he had no time for me and if I wanted to pay 46$ he would look at my car. I would never recommend this place for anything. I'm writing this review because I received the absolute worst service and overall experience dealing with the Modesto AAMCO on McHenry ave. Whoever the service writer was that I dealt with, was not only the most rude and inconsiderate individual I have ever dealt with, but also out right lied to me and deceivingly tried to convince me to pay for an unnecessary repair for more than $2, 500!!! When I took the vehicle to another shop for a second opinion, I was quoted $250 for the necessary repair the car needed and was enlightened to AAMCO's attempt to take advantage of me. Honestly, I very rarely write reviews at all, whether good or bad, but I genuinely worry that this business is making a pattern of this type of deceit with many other people too. So I call them in the morning asking about getting my AC repaired, and they tell me that it is no problem and shouldn't take more than an hour or two. I bring it in, everything seems fine, and I leave the car there, expecting them to check it out, call me to tell me what is wrong, and give me an estimate before repairing it (it needed some sort of repair and to be recharged). About three hours later I'm wondering why I haven't heard from them, so I call to check in. The guy says that they haven't even looked at it yet! So about an hour later he finally calls and says one of the hoses looks wet, but he has no idea how much a new hose costs, and says he will call me back with an estimate. I figure this would take about 20 minutes- WRONG. An hour and a half later I call him back, and he says he hasn't finished the estimate! I needed my car back that day so I just go down there because they were closing 30 minutes later. In the end I got absolutely nothing, no service, no estimate, NOTHING. I wasted like 6 hours of my time and these people are just so incompetent I cannot even believe it. Plus they are really inaccurate about both their prices and repair times. I asked for pricing on an AC recharge (he knew what type of car I had) and when I got there he changed the price without having even looked at my car. And obviously they were mistaken about the length of time necessary to service my vehicle. What a horrible experience! I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

Was in a time crunch and needed my clutch replaced in my Truck so I called Aamco. They told me over the phone that it would be between $700 and $800 and would be done in a day so I dropped it off on a Saturday. After a few calls, the truck was ready on Friday morning. I went in and talked to Joe, the owner, and he had no idea about the truck and said nothing was in the computer. He was beyond professional while he berated whomever he had on the phone, calling them imcompetent and cussing at them. Apparently, he thought I may interpret this as caring. So, we came up with a fair number, I paid, and drove off. I drove two miles from Aamco and the Check Engine light came on. I called Tom and he said "no problem, drop it off and I'll take a look at it". I didn't have time that day so I took it back today and he was rude, rude, rude. He told me the clutch "is how it's supposed to be" and that the O2 sensor was out. When I asked him if they planned on fixing it, he told me that he just gave me a $90 test for free and that they wouldn't replace any parts. He was very short and rude. At this point, I gave him a few choice words of my own and walked out. I'm not a "hard to please" customer but just your average easy going guy but I expect businesses to have some leverl of customer service and this place is about the worst I've ever seen. A little over a month ago from the date of this review, my 2006 Chevy 2500 Express Cargo 3/4-ton Van starting kicking during gear shifts, as if I was being hit from behind. I immediately took it to a mechanic I've used in the past and, after driving it for 5 minutes, he said I need a new transmission at around $3,800. I then took it to the Chevy dealership in Modesto for a full diagnostic. After charging me for everything but a simple diagnostic, I was given estimates for either repairing the transmission for around $1,200 or replacing it completely for around $4,000. The following day, I stopped by AAMCO for a third opinion and another diagnostic. I met Tiberiu, the new owner, and he hooked up his computer to my van. Two minutes later he said, "You have an electrical problem and I'm sure I can fix it for you, but we have to go step by step to pinpoint the problem." I asked him many times if he's sure because two other places told me the transmission needs to be replaced. He said, "No, your transmission is running perfectly! It's an electrical problem." Seeing as he was so sure, I told him to go ahead and try his way. He replaced the pressure solenoid, which was reading dead on his computer and told me to drive the car and come back tomorrow to see if that was it. The next day, I drove the car for half the day and it was shifting gears perfectly, but when I pushed it a little harder, it started the kicking during gear shifts again. I took it back to Tiberiu at AAMCO and he said the next step is to check all my wiring leading to the transmission. After checking every wire, he found the problem: one lousy, little wire was broken! He replaced that broken wire and here I am, more than a week later, with perfect gear shifts and it only cost me pennies compared to what the other mechanic shops were telling me. I couldn't be happier with the service at AAMCO and with Tiberiu, the new owner. I'm sorry for the negative reviews he has to deal with because of the previous owner. I trust this new owner with any car I have. He knows what he's doing! If you need a good mechanic, I highly recommend taking your vehicle to Tiberiu at AAMCO! He is the new owner and has fired those imbeciles who were working there before. read more

Had issues with my Mini Cooper transmission and had both dealer and another repair place tell me only way to fix is replace transmission for $8,000. Not worth it, so I called many transmission repair shops and no one said that these CVT transmissions were repairable. I called Tom at AAMCO and he says, yes, they can work on them. Long story, short, they were able to rebuild it at a cost 1/4 of the price of replacement and got a 3 year warranty. Drove it hard today and shifted great! read more

I was quoted $2500-$2600 to have my transmission rebuilt. Obviously I dont have that kind of money just sitting around. So Aamco refers me to Springleaf Financial. I go in and get the loan for $2600. Then when I go pick up my car they tell me the price has increased to $2915 dollars. So now I have to come up with $255 out of the blue. When I got the invoice I noticed they charged me more for labor than what it cost to repair the car, which is why I had to pay more. The repair was only $1200, but the labor was $1500. B very careful everyone as these people are criminals. I took my car in there along with 7k in brand new parts n they stole everything; took rim/tire, battery, n other parts n components attached 2 car. They also took apart substantial portion of car n then attempted 2 sling insults at me n blame me for their criminal acts. They also tried 2 place all dealings over 2 Big O Tires (next door 2 them n separate business) who actually operate business correct way n provided me help. They also revealed some damaging info about Aamco as it relates 2 my car advising me that they know 4 a fact that my very expensive headlights r currently inside the garage area. I attempted 2 contact these people 4 quite some time n they ignored my attempts n now I understand y. I will b suing them n filing criminal report as well as reporting them 2 every state dept n agency (BAR) that govern n oversee these unprofessional criminal enterprise. read more

Aamco's "check your engine light for free" is far from it! They give you a general idea for free but then charge you $90 (if you are willing to hang in there) for a computer code. This is deceptive advertising and I found the service writer to be unprofessional and really kind of rude. read more

I went there with my 1993 Dodge Intrepid under the impression I had an r12 as my A/C unit. TOM gave me an estimate and said to bring the car around front to check under the hood to see if additional work needed to be done. So the mechanics and TOM looked under my hood and estimated $900 to convert the r12 to an r134 and replace my A/C lines and condenser. I wanted to look around to weigh my options so I left. I called Auto Zone a couple days later and I asked about having it done not at a shop and they told me that my car already has an r134 AC unit in it and told me where to check to confirm. Turns out I did have an r134 already so I bought freon and my car has cold air again. Aamco and TOM saw a young woman come in and tried to take advantage. Just a bunch of you know whats! Do not do business with them! I cannot believe I actually considered getting the work done. Please Beware and call auto zone first. They always seem to save me money and my time. read more
