VCA Midpark Animal Hospital

VCA Midpark Animal Hospital

I cannot speak highly enough about the entire team at VCA Midpark. My pets have been seen by all…read morethree veterinarians, and each one has been consistently kind, compassionate, and highly knowledgeable. Dr. Nickell was the only vet who was able to solve a persistent skin issue with my senior cat after two other clinics told me to either accept his discomfort or sedate him. She found a solution that treated the root cause and preserved his quality of life. On top of that, she also identified a heart murmur in my dog--something our previous vet office completely missed--all on her very first day at the office! A few months ago, when a stray kitten wandered into my yard (and heart), the team got me an appointment within 24 hours with Dr. Suhie, who was incredibly gentle, personable, and helpful with my unexpected new fur baby. We've also had the pleasure of working with Dr. Anita Kinscher, who has been just as fantastic as the other two. The reception team is always warm and welcoming. On a side note, waiting area has been updated within the couple years and always feels clean. This is a stark contrast to my previous vet in Strongsville, where the front desk staff often seemed annoyed to answer the phone or check someone in. Finally, every single vet tech I've met has been loving, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. They take their time gaining the trust of my timid dog and absolutely dote on my cats. It's clear that everyone here is genuinely committed to their work and passionate about the animals they care for.

Eight years later, I cant imagine life without him in it. He's never been to a vet and I almost backed out bc I didn't want to stress him. The vet pictured was the absolute best. He's the cat whisperer for sure! I expected blood and eye gouging from my boy but instead, he loved the attention. Great experience...great person!!

What a wonderful medical group! They are VERY accommodating (my husband and I have tricky…read moreschedules, and our pets have a LOT of special needs) and efficient, but that is not what makes them so special. The doctors, vet techs, vet assistants, groomers, and even the people in reception are warm and friendly and CARING, especially Holly, Mel B. (Our kitty Reggie is in LOVE with her!) and Drs. Walker and Mitzi. They all listened to our questions and concerns, and they treated us with kindness and patience. It is clear that they wanted us to understand every part of the appointment, and they made sure to get our informed consent about entry procedure or treatment. And the way they treat our kitties? Amazing. After every appointment, they called us "just to check in with how the patients are doing". You can really tell that they love animals. On a sad note, we recently lost out 16 year-old cat to cancer (he was being treated by an amazing oncologist at MedVet, by the way). When we had him put to sleep at Medvet (see my other review for THAT horror story), the folks at Bartels and Busack sent us condolences and a sympathy card even though they were not the ones who euthanized him. Their tech, Vince, was especially sympathetic and compassionate. Thank you for the comfort, B and B.

When I did have an emergency during hours and I thought my dog was dying, they wanted to charge me a $200 fee to have it reviewed by their board to see if they could get her in. I never went back. You'll also wait 30 minutes to see a doctor every time you go there. Why don't they just adjust their appointment times? Don't know. You'd think they'd provide top tier service with the prices they charge.

Gateway Animal Clinic - Dr. Wolford and a canine patient

Update: I will leave the previous review text below, but I want to update my main score since they…read morehave apparently addressed the problem. I had initially given them 5 stars, so I will simply revert to that with the understanding that I have not had any animals seen at Gateway in a few years. It was never a matter of not caring enough- all of my encounters reflected a staff of people who were very dedicated to the care they were giving. And no, I wasn't pressured in any way to change my review. It's important to me to be as accurate and fair as possible. I am just now reading the response from Gateway, as I don't use Yelp often, so I am updating my review based on the new information. Previous Review: We went to Gateway for several years for our dogs. They had good pricing and the staff was friendly, competent, and clearly passionate about the work they did. These qualities can be really hard to find... especially the combination of reasonable pricing and competent, passionate care. I gave Gateway a 5-star rating when I first reviewed them 8 years ago. The problem is the walk-in only nature of the practice, paired with significant changes in how Gateway is run. I suspect that they may have been sold to equity investors or similar schemes that ultimately destroy so many good vet practices, but I am not sure. Before covid even showed up, I found myself avoiding taking the dogs to the vet because I couldn't handle sitting and waiting for HOURS every single time. Didn't matter if I showed up before they opened- the line was already long. I am physically disabled, so sitting for hours in their waiting room had a physical cost in addition to the fact that most people don't enjoy waiting for long periods of time. The last time we went, we were told to cue up outside more than an hour before opening to even have a shot at being seen that day. It was absolutely horrible having to stand in the freezing cold for so long, our sick dog waiting with us. Despite being this early, we weren't ultimately seen until mid day. It isn't even a first come first served situation. They aren't primarily an emergency vet yet they triage. So you'll be sitting there watching so many go ahead of you unless your pet is experiencing a medical emergency. This seems like a reasonable approach on paper, but unfortunately it means that a visit to Gateway requires me to clear my schedule for the entire day and that just is not reasonable. It also isn't fair to the animals- especially if they're sick or otherwise frail. The people who founded Gateway are long gone, as is the wonderful service they provided. If you're desperate to have your pet seen (and you can manage to show up first thing in the morning and wait several hours to be seen), maybe it's a good fit for you. Otherwise keep looking.

On top of this, today we received a sympathy card from them that contained wildflower seeds that we can plant in her memory. So touching! What a classy thing to do. Lastly, I wanted to mention how appreciative we are that, unlike most other veterinary services who will gouge you for the same service, their pricing is reasonable. They don't take advantage of you in your time of need.
