Love the variety of apples when in season from sweet to tart to crispy to tangy! BJ Reeces also has a variety of fresh honey and jams/preserves of all different flavors. Love their dehydrated apple chips as they are so addictive. From novelty candies to fried pies and smoothies and apple cider and wines ....whats more you can ask for all in one spot. Their nostalgic barn feeling decor that's spacious and clean and organize is easy to get around. Offering tours of the orchard and hay rides and seasonal u-pick options makes BJ Reece Orchard a nice family friendly weekend destination!

We got their Apple cider, cinnamon apple donut, and apple fritter. The Apple cider and cinnamon apple donut were really good! But their Apple fritter was disappointing. I think if it was warmed it would have been better. There is also no indoor seating (which usually is probably not a problem). But since it was rainy and cold we couldn't sit outside, and there were zero seats inside, so we went back to our car to eat. Everyone was very nice and I would go back, but I would also have better expectations

We were recently in Ellijay and Mack Aaron's was on the way into town for us…read more First, they are the friendliest and kindest people I've ever shopped with. Every single person was just lovely to answer all my questions about everything from their potatoes to their jams to their candies. Secondly, anything they have that's sugar-free is amazing. Jams, stick candies and everything else is just amazing - let me particularly recommend the sugar-free fig preserve. They have good reason to have perfected this - one of the family had type 2 diabetes and lost his legs after going into cardiac arrest. The sweet young man shared his story when he learned I was also a diabetic, as a cautionary tale. Their peaches were lovely, nectarines slightly less so, but nothing was bad. Their white potatoes were extraordinary. Apparently they purchased these - I called after I cooked some to find out the type, they were deliciously tender, just earthy and sweet enough to eclipse the prime ribeye steaks I cooked as the main. Boiled, then halved and baked with olive oil and salt, they were so good. Everyone exclaimed over them. I loved this place and look forward to visiting the next time I'm in that area.

You can take a tractor ride into the orchards for $6. For additional charges you can pick your own apples and fill your bag as much as you can fit. Cut fresh flowers and sunflowers. You can also pick other fruits and veggies that are in season. Then make your way to the market that has everything from jams and jelly's to honey and fresh made fudge and fresh fruit smoothies and a variety of flavors of fried pies. You also have a selection of breads and apple breads. And did I mention apples? Bags and bags of apples are also available for sale. We tried the dried apple and the chocolate pecan fried pies.... They were good but nothing spectacular. Wish they were warm as would have tasted better in my opinion. Cashiers were nice overall and helpful with our questions. Lovely place for a nice weekend activity to attend.

Another absolute must-visit when you're in Ellijay…read more Let me start with the food -- because wow. By far some of the freshest and most flavorful apple pies I've ever had. Not "good for a farm market"... just flat-out amazing. The kind of pie you immediately start thinking about on the drive home. Their produce selection is equally impressive. We're talking everything from purple carrots to vegetables I didn't even know I needed in my life until I saw them. On top of that: homemade candies, jars of jam with flavor combinations I never would have imagined, and yes -- chow chow. If you've never had chow chow, do yourself a favor and try it. Game changer. But what truly makes this place special is the people. The ladies at the register were older, sweet, hilarious, and full of personality. One of them even flirted with me -- I had to tell her, "You can't handle this ride, grandma!" The entire exchange had me laughing the rest of the visit. In the back, a group of women were playing mahjong, just enjoying life, laughing, and clearly at home in the space. That energy carried throughout the whole market. It's the kind of place that feels lived in, loved, and genuinely warm. Even the guy outside in the parking lot collecting carts, casually smoking a cigarette, was one of the chillest people I've met. Everyone there just seemed... happy. Comfortable. Real. This place put a real smile on my face. Not because it's flashy or fancy -- but because it's authentic. Good food, good people, good energy. I already can't wait to go back. If you're in Ellijay and you don't stop here, you're doing the trip wrong.

It stated they had 5 food different vendors and also hot dog and burgers on the weekends. What they did not specify was that you had to pay for admission ($22 on Sunday) to get into the area where the food vendors were my husband and I just wanted to buy apples and have lunch and not do the whole pick your own apples and all the rides for kids. So just a heads up if you're looking for lunch, you have to pay to get in. The free area only has the burgers and hot dogs. We did end up getting apple pies and they had about 8 varieties of fill your bag apples that day. 1/4 peck for $6, not too bad! Pickled up some apple butters and preserved as well. Quick check out line, and nice cashiers.

Hillcrest Orchards at the very least needs to reinvest in their property. Perhaps at one time they were posh and polished but now, the attractions are run down and very dated. The entire property needs a facelift, paint and a good scrubbing. We enjoyed the pig races, of course, but the athletic area is worn down and pretty darn yucky. I think they can do so much better. Next year, we will return to BJ Reece!
