I love this music studio. Has a rustic nostalgic feel to it. Everyone is incredibly sweet and friendly especially the man who works at the front counter. My two elementary school kids took guitar lessons here with Andrew for one and a half year. We took a break but then decided to not return to Andrew for lessons when realizing that after 1.5 years my two kids were still not able to read music notes! I called Andrew to see what's going on and he said indeed they have only been taught tabs. I'm not familiar with guitar but I've played the violin and know kids who played piano and both of which music notes were learned quite quickly. So now after all those lessons my children aren't able to read the guitar music book given to them by a relative. Very disappointing. read more

I've been playing guitar and bass for years, but never took a lesson. I went into the store, met Jeff, signed up for lessons, and I'm always going back. He's a great teacher and customizes each lesson to my ability, from the basics to practicing along with songs, jam tracks, and writing out tablature for the songs I want to learn. Time flies when you're having fun! For anyone from a beginner to advanced... it's a great place to learn from great teachers. Looking for G&L guitar, this is one of very few dealers in SoCal. The shop is incredibly friendly and the staff is knowledgeable. They are a locally owned and operated business. My daughter has been getting guitar lessons from Andy for about 8 mos now. She has really progressed. I finally had a break and sat in on a class to witness his instruction 1st hand. He's very good, not over-bearing, gentle guidance on fingering, progressions, picking etc. Very low key dude and respectful of her unique learning style. Years ago in 2019 I had been looking for months to find a banjo teacher. And my amazing Dad and I found this place online and we called them and they had a guy who could teach banjo named Jeff Bayless. And I really could not have asked for a better teacher. Jeff is so amazing at being able to teach me any song I choose, from children's to gospel to country to rock. He always gets the notes so spot on and when I play according to his instructions I can always hear it match the tune. And Jeff is also very friendly and fun to have conversations with, and so are the other staff members. Such a wonderful music shop. read more

This place is a staple Of HB since 1981. I've had tons of repairs done here and took lessons. This place has had same teachers for many years that says a lot. Its not one of those long hair rocker shops Just a very local mom and pop place. I grew up here in HB and I've seen music stores come and go Yet this place is still here, not surprised. Support it. They know there stuff . I think they repair just about anything oh ya amps too. If your punk, hardcore or just a local you know you've been here . This is a great local music shop. I've been going here for years to get my guitars worked on. Quality work. Very reasonable prices. $30 for a basic set up. $25 to get a pickup replaced. It's not Guitar Center. They don't have a great selection of guitars or other instruments, but the people are friendly and helpful. I took my violin there today. They helped me tune it and it's staying in tune. No pressure to buy another violin like a few other stores. One other store refused to even try to tune it. This place is an absolute gem. In one way or another, my family has been coming here since AB Music has been open, and I'm well proud to say that we've kept it up to this day. Every single person I've ever talked with here has been incredible, insightful, intelligent and in no way overbearing. Being a smaller store, you won't be finding an expansive selection of every musical instrument on the planet in stock, but what you will find are die-hard musicians who truly care about working with you and making sure that you receive the best possible service. They are always happy to order anything you might need should they not have it on hand in the store, and their prices are more than reasonable. I've had banjos and guitars worked on here as well, and every time the service has been without a doubt above and beyond. If something's not right, they'll make it right. If you're thinking about stopping in, do yourself a favor and make sure you build in some time for it. Among the newer guitars and other instruments for sale are some rare old examples, many with stories as interesting as the instrument itself.
