I've heard so much abt this place and finally got a chance to get here. They offer dine-in or…read moreto-go. The food (ox tails, greens/cabbage, cornbread dressing) is really 5/5, it was seasoned wonderfully and the portions were good for plentiful leftovers. The live DJ was nice and music was very good. When I walked in, there was a not-so-long line, but it took forever. I can only assume they were waiting for food to be prepped before moving to the next person. It was cafeteria style and I really couldn't tell what the wait was.

It might have been a blessing in disguise Yelp recommended this place and we gave it a shot. We almost did not stay to eat because today was takeout only the staff said. We noticed chairs outside so opted to stay. We chose the baked chicken, the meatloaf and the fried fish. Our sides were Mac and cheese X's 3 ( so glad we did) pinto beans abd the green beans. EVERYTHING was seasoned nicely, the food was hot (except cornbread and rolls which was unfortunate) and quantities were perfect They did not have togo drinks today ( suggest to offer in the future). But we asked for water and they happily accommodated which was nice since we don't live here. All around it was a great experience and we will definitely recommend this place to friends and family! Food quality, temp, quality, variety and cost all a plus Staff attitude, accommodation all a plus.

A large, soft, salty pretzel and creamy, decadent dip made this app a 10/10. Then we tried a couple of cups of gumbo which had the best roux I have ever tasted... Another 10!!! I could just order a pretzel and a bowl of gumbo and be completely satisfied with my meal here. For our mains we got the sticky chicken and fried catfish. Sticky chicken was a little sweet for my taste 7/10 and the catfish was perfect, another 10/10. The sides were good but the jalapeno blueberry coleslaw stole the show. If you're ever in the area this restaurant is a must try! They'll be moving to a new location soon and I hope it has the same cozy feel as this original location.

A small one crawling on the wall near our table and someone from my party saw a larger one crawling near the kitchen. And boy was it stuffy in there. I asked our waitress if she could move a floor fan near for some relief and to detour the gnats, she said she go ask but she never came back and when she did she completely forgot my request. We weren't seated in the greater eating area where it was cooler and maybe where the gnats were less of a bother. The food was delicious and homemade, you can tell it was made with high quality ingredients and that Southern skill that you can only get from helping Grandma in the kitchen. BUT the roaches made us lose our appetite. Such a shame. It seemed like the building went down. They don't seem to put as much effort into the condition of that place as they do the food. Dusty ceiling fans and crummy floors. I appreciate the homey vibe but it looked really junky, more stuff piled in unoccupied corners as before. I gave a lot of things the side eye, I mean it there has to be maintained asthetic. They charged an 18% gratuity on my tab for a party of 8 but I arrived with 4 people, the other 4 had already been there, paid and was almost done with their meal. Then of course the cashier/waitress still mentioned an additional, optional tip. I didn't think that was fair. At the end of it all she wasn't the best waitress.

I checked out Mikki's Soulfood Cafe with two buddies on a Monday evening for dinner. Parking is a…read morecinch in the large parking lot they share with several other businesses in a shopping center right off 518. There are some things I like about Mikki's and some things I don't like. Let's dive into it. Ambiance (4/5): This is one of the areas where Mikki's shines. The restaurant looks great. It's clean, snazzy, and there's plenty of seating. We sat at a booth. The A/C was blasting so hard that I was a bit cold, but I'd much rather take this than the alternative. They also have a private room for events or more intimate gatherings. Service (2.5/5): This is where part of my problems with Mikki arose. We came to this soul food restaurant for Pearland Restaurant Weeks. For $35, you have a choice of several entrees, sides, and a dessert for $35. My friend looked at what it would cost to order these items individually and it came out to less than $35... weird. I've been to Houston Restaurant Weeks for many years and the beauty of it is that you get a deal while doing good for the community. At Mikki's for Pearland Restaurant Weeks, you do good for the community without getting a good deal. Naturally, we avoided the special menu when we figured out the parking structure. Outside of this mishap, while you order at the counter cafeteria style, we did have a member of the staff stop by to ask how we're doing and we were thanked upon leaving. Drinks (2.5/5): Mikki's has a full bar, and even has daiquiris, but I was well-behaved. I had some Kool Aid which brought me back. I used to drink it as a kid. At Mikki's, for a small Kool-Aid, it's going to run you $4.75. If you've ever had Kool Aid before, you know it's super cheap. I know that restaurants and bars will always charge a premium for drinks compared to a grocery store but $4.75 for a small without free refills?! At pretty much any restaurant, you can get a soft drink or an iced tea with free refills for less than this price point. Just a bit steep. Food (3/5): You'll find a lot of soul food classics at Mikki's like oxtails, fried chicken, catfish, yams, collard greens and more. I opted to go with the beef tips with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The beef tips are essentially like a beef stew with a little burst of spices. Some chunks of beef were a little too fatty. Some were just right. The mashed potatoes were solid, just a bit dry. The mac and cheese was great. I'd get this side every single time. You also get a dinner roll or cornbread with every entree (as stated on the menu). They didn't offer me my bread, and I had to ask for it. One of my friends didn't get theirs at all. Mikki's can get quite busy on the weekends, it's definitely a popular spot. You'll see pictures of celebrities who have been there including Stephen A. Smith, 50 Cent, Tyrese, and many others. Where's my picture on the wall?! ;) While there are some attractive things about Mikki's, the missteps (seemingly taking advantage of customers a bit to increase their profit margin) soured the experience for me a bit.

I ordered smothered turkey wing in gravy with mashed potatoes, collard greens and yams - exquisite! My daughter ordered Oxtails, Mac & cheese along with collard greens.
