Family meal for two: chicken vindaloo, butter paneer, garlic naan, vegetable samosas
    Rox And Mike K.

Rox: we ordered this over the phone for pickup and asked them to make both curries as spicy as possible. The flavor was really good, but you could've fed the spice level to a toddler without them flinching unfortunately. We had to load it up with chili oil, chili flakes, cayenne pepper, AND fresh jalapeño at home (thank god we had it on hand!). Garlic naan and samosas were really good though. Just needed more ~spice~ !!! Mike: I really have to just agree with Rox's comments above. Need way more spice. The garlic naan was the highlight and they were very friendly!

The restaurant is small and comfortable. The decor is beautiful and not overwhelming. The employees were spectacularly kind and attentive. All of the food from appetizer to mango ice cream was delicious. TADKA 96 is a gem in the community. My family will be back! Thank you.

Was craving Indian food so I decided to order uber eats from this restaurant for the first time since I had never seen it on the app before. I decided on the butter chicken. It comes with rice and one piece of naan. I also ordered veg samosas to go with it. The naan was the most delicious naan I've ever had. The butter chicken was good too but the pieces of chicken were a bit big for me. I like smaller pieces. Overall I would say the portion size was smaller than what I've had ordering from other Indian restaurants. Also, the samosas were good too but I did not enjoy them as much as I normally would because when I opened my bag I saw that the tamarind sauce had spilled everywhere inside of the bag and onto the container that the samosas were in. It kinda sucked eating my samosas without the sauce. I can't blame the restaurant 100% because I'm mot sure if it spilled due to the way it was transported by the driver or not but what I will say is that if it was packaged correctly to begin with, it probably wouldn't have spilled. I would still try this restaurant again one day though. I would like to try one of the vegetarian dishes.

Please don't sit on this place - tadka 96. Run as fast as you can and try the most authentic indian food I've had in the area. Super sweet, small family business. There are also a variety of other options if you don't like indian cuisine. Please do yourself a favor and plan a trip there!!

    Chicken kadai w/ aloo added

How have I not been to TADKA 96 before today?! The food was AMAZING!!! We ordered the tadka fries, chicken kadai, loaded chicken fries, and sides of the garlic naan. I added aloo (potatoes) to the kadai. Every dish was bursting with flavor! The kadai was savory, bold, and spicy. I absolutely will be going back here. Also, they were so kind!!! I asked for recommendations for my next visit and they said to try the biryani (Saturday and Sunday only), butter chicken, and shrimp curry. Highly recommend!!!! Please support this gem of a restaurant!

Chicken Tikka Masala, Palak Paneer, Daal Tadka with Rice and Naan

Everything was flavorful and properly spicy! I got my chicken tikka medium spice level (mild, medium, hot) and it was a perfect amount of spicy for me as someone who enjoys their spice at a light to medium spice level. The Saag Paneer was perfectly spicy and creamy as well even though I got that one as a mild spice level. Looking forward to coming back!

A friend and I went on a week night to try dishes from their Indian menu. Even though I've lived in the area since the early 90s, I had never set foot in Lilly Seafood until I read that there was Indian food here. We were greeted by a nice young woman who explained the dishes on the Indian menu. At the time, the menu was written on an A-frame menu stand. We ordered samosas, the butter chicken, the tikka masala, a kind of paneer, and naan. The restaurant is quite small but clean, although you can definitely tell it is a fish fry type joint. There is a table with to-go boxes, paper hot dog trays, and plastic silverware (self-serve). You also have to buy bottles of water or soda, which I found most confounding. We were dining in, and we were expecting a dine-in experience. To add to the fish fry type environment, we were given plastic ware to eat our food. I don't think it will hurt them to provide water in cups... The food, though, is pretty great. The samosas are crispy and flavorful. The creamy butter chicken and sweet tikka masala are excellent. We preferred the butter chicken over the tikka. The naan is great. The paneer was probably the weak link here. All in all, we enjoyed the food a lot and will definitely add this to our rotation of eat out places. It's about time this side of town got a decent Indian restaurant. Very happy about that.

shrimp and okra gumbo. I ordered a side of fried oysters to add.

We came here recently for a Sunday lunch. Fortunately, there were only a handful of patrons here when we arrived (around 11:30). Within 30 minutes, the dining room was full, and we couldn't hear each other talk. I remember experiencing the same thing when this joint was known as Opus Bistro several years ago. Despite the noise, the dining room still offers an excellent view of the canal and the people pulling up on their boats. Again, the food here is OK. Nothing more. In fact, it was quite reminiscent of a Fertita-owned restaurant with lines of delivery trucks from Sysco and Gordon's lined up at the loading dock. More specifically, the coconut shrimp came out crispy with not much flavor beyond the cloyingly sweet sauce served alongside. The fries are battered. Not my bag, though they arrived at the table hot and crispy. (Since when do crispy fries need batter?!?) The tacos were average. Not bad, but nothing different than you would get at most other places. Same with the Caesar salad and crispy Brussels sprouts. The crab bisque tasted tomatoey. That's not a deal breaker, but I expect a garlicky, buttery broth that has been thickened with heavy cream. Not the case here, as this was flour-thickened with inexpensive ingredients. And the amount of crab was negligible. Those *are* deal breakers. The beer selection is fine here. And, again, the service was really good on our visit. Bottom Line: I totally want local businesses to succeed. But my money is also hard-earned, and I want the food to taste local and to be made with high-quality ingredients. When it doesn't -- and this place doesn't -- I might as well grab a Groupon and go to Red Lobster.

I think my bartender was Matty but maybe got the name wrong. He is from LA but eventually moving to Texas. I did eat a lobster roll with fries which was very good and tried a small Mac and cheese also good. The location in the corner of a strip mall is odd but there is plenty of parking. I would most definitely recommend trying it out especially after the cocktail menu is going. Pricing wasn't bad. There are probably ten or so tables and maybe 8 seats at the bar.

It was a lighter dish than I expected but turned out to be perfect for a warm night. It was lacking flavor but adding generous amounts of salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese made a big difference. My companion had the tropical crab salad and it was fantastic. Refreshing and flavorful. The whole, sliced avocado was a nice touch. And it was just a vibrant looking dish. A piano player played live music as we dined, took photos and took turns sharing kind words about the birthday girl. All of that was the best part. The service was just okay. I'd give it a 6.5/10. They were timid and didn't move quickly. What I did appreciate is that they had two main servers plus two floater guys who just kept refilling water and bringing bread and straws. These guys were the real superstars. The food... eh. I took out my Yelp menu vision and read the reviews, and nothing really seemed like it was going to be good. I settled on the Oysters Rockefeller and a cup of gumbo. The oysters came out hard and dry, but we'd waited so long that I ate them. 5/10. The gumbo was just so-so. 5.5/10. Everyone around me said the same thing. Someone got the loaded shrimp scampi and set it back because it was completely tasteless. Others got the shrimp and grits and other entrees. When asked about how they were, everyone said, "Ehhh, you know... it's all right. Not that good, but not terrible either. Just okay." That was the consensus across the 30-person group. BUT there were two items the ladies said were actually good: the wedge salad and the salmon. Those who chose those items had a great meal!
