My boyfriend and I were looking for something to do yesterday, to shake off some bad vibes were were experiencing after an irritating text conversation with my mother, so we decided to take a trip to Havre De Grace. We both hadn't been there in a while, and he had never seen the lighthouse. We accidentally stumbled upon an Octoberfest celebration, but the line for the German food was so long that we decided to find a permanent local spot. He was craving burgers (as usual), and Yelp suggested Abbey Burger was within walking distance. It's a cute little spot. We walked passed the door, as it's set back in a nook. Even though it was Sunday and there were sports on the televisions (and "Medium" - oddly enough), and they have sports-related specials, there were surprisingly few patrons. We were seated in the back, passed the shuffleboard table, where there are average height tables. The restaurant is decorated in loads of adorable fall decorations. I ordered a whiskey sour, and it seems that the bartender doesn't actually know how to make one of those because I basically received a shot of whiskey with an orange wheel and a cherry. Whiskey sours are supposed to have simple sugar, or a whiskey sour mix, in them to cut the bite of the whiskey. I drank it anyway, but I certainly wasn't going back for a second. My boyfriend ordered ginger ale, no ice - but got ice anyway. We had the GAME MEAT SLIDER TRIO, which consisted of venison, dry-aged beef (which I wouldn't consider a game meat), and CAMEL. When I woke up that morning I never would have guessed I'd be crossing tasting camel off my bucketlist. It was the best of the trio, too. Slightly sweet, great toppings (roasted red pepper and a sweet/spicy mayo). My boyfriend created his own burger with Kobe beef, a fried egg, special sauce, bacon and onion straws on a pretzel bun, with pickles. He HATED the pickle on the top of the bun, which were not the same as the ones inside the bun. He was so adorable when he bit into his burger and the egg yolk exploded everywhere (like a good yolk should). He was like a 3-year-old with yolk all over his face. I had the waffle fry nachos (chili, black beans, avocado, jalapenos, pico de gallo, nacho cheese, spicy crème fraiche). They were incredible. The chili is spectacular. And I realized that waffle fries won't get so soggy that they ruin any nacho leftovers. I plan on throwing these bad boys into the air fryer, when I ready to finish them off. We must've visited at the wrong time. I've been to locations in Fells Point and Fed Hill, and even once in Ocean City. Service and food were always outstanding at all locations. We popped into the Havre de Grace location midafternoon on a weekday. We stood for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us (no one was in the bar/entrance area). Service was slow, and drink options seemed much reduced compared to other locations. Our server seemed bothered to have to help us, but did so. Our food was ok. I went for the Adam Jones deal because it's always good and did not disappoint. My wife wasn't pleased with burned bacon and stale bread. Our server never checked back in with us aside from bringing the check. One woman passed by and asked how we were doing, she was pleasant, but we never saw her again. Wow!! Just had an amazing lunch and dining experience at Abbey Burger in Havre De Grace. The food was delicious and my server, Holly was incredibly professional, kind and attentive. Food was served very promptly and it was fantastic. I only planned to stop by for a quick bite but stayed for nearly 2 hours. The ambiance made me feel like a valued and welcomed customer. Holly made me feel like it was a pleasure to serve me and the other guests. There was about 7 or 8 of us having lunch and everyone and I mean everyone were so impressed with the food and Holly. Service is a 10. Food a 5. Both my daughter and I ordered the turkey burger. In a word...nasty. tasted off. Like it was old. My daughter make your own turkey burger which was nothing special was $18! Manager removed from the bill because she refused to eat it after 1 bite. My burger was sour tasting. Wings were ok but very dry. Over cooked. Alligator bites were horrid and tasted like feet. Dessert was house made ice cream sandwich. Hard like a rock and nothing special. Only item that made a hit was rootbeer float. Skip this place Red Robin better value and taste. Had the western burger? and chips, wife had the build your own cheddar burger. Burgers were good, well made and cooked through the way we like them. The fries were cold though. They would have been good if served hot.l, do they lost a star there. The waitress was very personable but was also working take out orders, which slowed the service down. They make a gooood burger! Our first visit. Got seated right away. I got an orange crush and my husband got the Michigan IPA. Both were good! He did the build your own burger and I got the Applewood Burger with bourbon jam and bacon. So good. Comes with chips but you can upgrade to fries which I recommend. Also, the pickles are to die for. They are house made and sweet, salty, spicy just perfect. They need to sell these. Awesome service from Bryce and when we got there they were busy! Also the hostess was super sweet and friendly. Location is a little hard to find the first time you go because the front is very narrow. When you walk in there is a bar and then further back is more seating (booths and tables). I had to take a star away because it did take forever for someone to come over and greet us after we were seated, get our drink order, and take our food order. Another time, we went to eat and checked their posted hours to be sure they were open around 1pm, which online said they were, only to show up and a hand written sign on the door said "not open till 3pm." Overall the experience was great and we have ordered take out a few times! Take out has always been correct and ready when we arrive. Every place's success comes down to one basic question - does the food taste good? Abbey Burger didn't offer anything good in our visit. I had the crispy chicken burger - while the chicken was done, internally, the breading was fried in either way too hot or hot and old oil. The burned/oil oil taste was the strongest taste. My partner had the salmon burger - and there's no real way to describe it other than 'tastes like you'd expect unseasoned fish on bread to taste'. The seltzer water tasted off; rubbery perhaps, or poor quality local water supply. The iced tea tasted like old tea. While the chicken sandwich was removed from the bill, $35 for fried pickles, one burger, and an Iced Tea (the remaining items on our bill) seems steep for the quality of the product. Service was fine. Friendly. All that. Service isn't enough of a reason to return. If a quality chef could mentor their cooks for even one day, it might be enough to save this place. read more

Doesn't look promising when walking by, however don't pass it up! The wings were crispy and delicious- the burgers were cooked perfectly and loaded with all the toppings I selected! When I first went to Abbey Burger when they first opened, the food was fantastic even though they were just getting started. Their crab tots and their Baltimore burger both used to be great. The crab dip came out lukewarm and thick and the request for medium used to mean just that. Now it translates into burnt fries and hockey puck meat. First time at Abbey burger was incredibly pleasant! The terrific variety in their menu includes a build-a-burger option with options including chicken, salmon, and vegetarian options! The appetizers are fun, and next time I will absolutely be trying the alligator bites. The burger was a sizable portion, and the onion rings were light and crispy. I only wish they gave you more for the side. Only downside is we had a larger party so I noticed my onion rings weren't still warm. Our server was very accommodating and knew the menu well. Years ago, I was down in Fed Hill and I had the most amazing burger ever in a little hole in the wall place. It was divine. Fast forward - after years and years of having this idealistic opinion that Abbey something in Baltimore had the best burger I've ever had - I was positively elated that they were opening a location near me. We went shortly after they opened and there was some kinks to iron out but it was a good experience. I had sliders and the wild boar was amazing. Every time we've been after has just gotten worse and tonight was the last straw. Don't get me wrong - The staff is very very friendly. The issue is the kitchen. Every time we go we have to plan on being there nearly 2 hours. I saw wild boar was on their menu this month so tongue in cheek I said to my husband if we had 2 hours to kill for dinner we should go to Abbey. They were packed when we got there so we waited patiently for a table. 15 minute wait, no problem. Drinks were quick and then we ordered. Our alligator bites appetizer came out minutes later - charred. My best guess is they had already cooked an order earlier and threw it back in the fryer for a couple mins to heat it back up? Because it was very quick and very, very burnt. 45 minutes later we asked our server where our food was - 2 burgers, some chicken strips, and a pretzel. She said most of it was nearly ready but that the pretzel would be later. Nearly 15 mins later everything but the pretzel was finally delivered. Call me unreasonable but I just feel like an hour is too long to wait for a couple of burgers. Icing on the cake was while I was paying the check, they quietly cleared my youngest sons plate. They didn't ask and if anyone had noticed we would have stopped them as he wasn't done with his pretzel. I'm just done, we can no longer spend hours waiting to see if they've improved. We were walking around Havre de Grace and needed to find a place for lunch with our youngest that has celiac and saw their sign. We popped in and they confirmed they could make her a gluten free burger, what we didn't expect was the entire staff of the restaurant to go out of their way to ensure our seven year old got an amazing meal with no risk of a glutening. On top of that the rest of us also enjoyed our meal and our server, Anthony, was so kind, attentive and took his time explaining the options and speaking directly with both of our under ten children. I know burgers are their specialty, but the soft crab BLT sounded delicious. It looked good but was disappointing with way too much mayo, toast was soggy, and batter and fries had too much salt. The coleslaw had a bland strange taste. The service was even worse!! We were waited on right away and that was the last time we saw the waitress. It wasn't that busy... three other tables and one lady sitting at the bar. I asked what type of white wine they had, and she said she would look and let me know ... I guess she forgot! We had water that a friendly personable young guy brought us. Someone from the kitchen brought our food. We went there for lunch. It was moderately busy but it took a while for the waitress to get our initial order. The drinks we ordered were "meh". I ordered a burger medium well, and it was medium rare. My wife took that burger. It didn't have a lot of flavor. I ate her burger which was a whiskey jam burger. That was good only because of the bacon jam. The food was "ok". Our waitress never came by to see how our food was or refill our drinks. I am not sure what the "hype" is about this place. We arrived for lunch and were seated right away in a roomy comfy booth. Unfortunately it then took 25 minutes for a waitress to come over. She was really sweet once she arrived. We had the alligator appetizer and it wasn't really that great it was dried little meatballs. Meh. So for the burgers, they offer a lot of selections of meat which is great. They also ask you how you want your meat cooked rare medium rare medium medium well or well... but all three of our burgers came out well done. So I paid extra to get a Kobe beef burger for all three of us and they were all overcooked. I've had better burgers from Burger King. So for what we paid the meal was very disappointing! at this point I would not give this place another chance. So we went there on a Sat afternoon 1pm. Ordered that was like 15 min. Waited for burgers and kids meal, it took 50 min. Everything was stone cold, my burger was supposed to be Med rare, was med probably from sitting for 20 min, 4 onion rings and cold burger for $19, wow not going back anytime soon. We were naive enough to be excited about trying this place, which we only recently heard about. Atmosphere would be described as somewhere between dive bar up front to hospital kitchen in back. We sat in the back, where the lighting was bright enough to make me wonder what spf sun screen I should be wearing. One burger was okay, but hardly worth the drive or the dystopian mood the place induces. The other burger was almost raw.
