We had lunch here today and all four of us ordered the oyster sandwich plate. What a pile of delicious oysters. I think I got half way done and was completely stuffed. Our waitress, Mikayla did a great job. She was the only server on the floor and she busted her but....it was a very busy day with people watching football and she happily took care of everyone. This little place resides next to a big red barn in the sleepy town of Charlestown, MD. The servers are all very friendly and hospitable and the food tastes homemade and fresh. I ordered the Chesapeake burger, basically a burger with Swiss cheese, and crab on top. It was really juicy and delicious! Everything non-seafood is under 10 dollars and my meal was only 11. I took my 3 grandkids to dinner there last night. They are 9 10 and 12 now. The waitress gave them their drinks before I received mine acting manager comes over and says that owner told him to talk to me about an incident that happened 2years ago with the kids at dinner. They were excited because their teachers were there packed bar and Covid restrictions and no help were in place. I'm not saying that they were perfect kids by no means. So 2 years later I bring much better behaved children to have dinner . I had also went there 5-15-23 and 6-16-23 everything was fine those times no one felt the need to bring up anything else. Bottom line is the people that get drunk are much louder So obviously they don't want family business.!!! Don't bring your family , go drink get drunk gets your d.u.i. Not a dinner kinda a place. Food not horrible, ambiance it's a small town bar. Chances good that the short hair bleached blonde waitress caused all this. It's clear they don't have enough employees read more

OK, I'm back to update on Burger Night. Let me preface this review by noting that I fancy myself a burger connoisseur. I like quality and quality can be found at many levels. I've also been to my share of hipster bars that tout great food and fresh local organic produce and blah blah blah. They make a decent burger but when 1/2 price night rolls around they put a sign out that says "Due to demand all burgers will be cooked medium well"...What they really mean is "Our cook can't hang" Back to Market Street. I rolled in at 7:05pm. They stop 1/2 price burgers at 8pm btw. The place was loaded and the bar was packed. I made one tour of the bar to find 1 open seat in the corner right where I came in. Took my seat, greeted those in my vicinity and ordered a beer. Ordered my burger medium-rare with the fixins and waited. Next beer came around and the burger was ready. The fries were batter dipped (no chips). Bonus. Slaw was pretty good too. The medium-rare was done exactly how I wanted it. That was impressive. It seems the folks in the back are never too busy to make a good burger. Thank You! When they ask me how I want my burger done I should just say "bangin'". Chef will do the rest. I told Anita, my bar maid, that the burger was ab-fab and to give my love to the cook. She was happy to hear it. I'll be back. I found my new Wednesday spot. read more

It's frustrating when you know the food is really good at an establishment yet they are failing in every other aspect. Case in point: Market Café. No doubt about it - this place is a dive bar. A place for locals. It's easy on the budget and located in a woodsy area with not a lot of eateries in the immediate vicinity. But....that is no excuse to let the place go - to have the parking lot littered with hundreds of cigarette butts, to have a front deck dirty and uninviting, to have the inside uninspiring and dark on the brightest of days, to have the market not clean, bright, and organized as a market should, and the worst violation? Read below. I ate here in 2015 while in the area. My burger was memorable enough to warrant another visit next time I was in the area despite past service flaws. I was actually yearning for the toasted bun, the chunks of solid crabmeat, and the juiciness of the thick, perfectly cooked burger. Our most recent visit was July 2016 and in an attempt for better service we decided to dine in instead of take out. Service was indeed better but dining in unearthed other issues. The interior was dark and drab. Despite it being a beautiful day outside the bus girl went around closing all the blinds except the one at our table (which I wouldn't have allowed anyway). Although the view outside was nothing special I'd rather not sit and eat in darkness at noontime on a lovely Saturday. Only one other table was occupied and I could hear them complimenting the food. The bartender was also our server and his service was good. No compliant there. Our order came out fast this time, and his service and attentiveness was just right. Although our burgers were as delicious and juicy as we remembered they came out served in a plastic basket on top of included fries which made eating difficult. A plate would be a much better and easier to eat presentation. Condiments were not present at the table and you had to ask for them. But the real issue was the bugs - tiny fruit like flies that littered the windowsill adjacent to our table in masses. That I had to smash with my paper placemat, and that continued to fly around my face and tickle my skin. It was quite annoying. So annoying in fact that I brought it to the attention of our server who admitted that the windowsill does need cleaned but insisted that this type of fly was problematic in this area. Considering that I was camping a mile away and had no encounters with them I question if the problem isn't limited to the cleanliness of this restaurant or if they are really a local problem. Either way it was a letdown. A let down because the food really, in all honesty is really good but everything else is a flop. The food is what is saving their rating from to a 3 star. I hope this review gets the attention of management and changes are made or it might not make it another season. . read more

Great Dinner Specials. Especially in the middle of the week. They usually have your favorite comfort foods, like Meatloaf. Yummy. The food here is well portioned to the moderate pricing. I never finish mine. It has that old home town bar, "hole-in-wall" appearance. Except for the high turn over of staff, the owners & regular customers are very friendly. We visit about once a month when we can, mostly during the week nights. Love those home cook comfort foods. You will be dining at the bar or at one of the high top tables surrounded by Shuffle board tables. Staff is always friendly too! Market Street Cafe is a small bar and restaurant in the tucked away town of Charlestown, MD. The wait staff there is genuine and kind. Although they have a bar I would still consider it a great place to bring the family. They have shuffleboard tables and a couple arcade cabinets. Wednesday is half priced burger night. My parents love the burgers but I don't eat beef so I can't attest to that. Overall it's a great place to take the family for a quick nice tasting meal. Even if you're from out of town, I have no doubt that they'll treat you like you're a regular. read more

Dirty & outdated. If you have any doubt about how clean the restaurant is, look at the carpet. It is bad. The whole interior could use a facelift. Service was SLOW and terrible. The all you can eat crabs are made and reheated per order. The corn on the cob was old and over cooked. Very disappointed. The sandwich we ordered took 45 minutes to make it to the table and it was made wrong. French fries were not hot. Sent the sandwich back and was told it would take 5 min. To make another. Twenty minutes later the sandwich made its way to the table. You must enter into the restaurant passed all the smokers on the porch. Smells real nice before a meal. Will not go back. read more

We hosted karaoke here once on a Saturday night and once on a Friday night. We ate dinner before the show and both times were very impressed with the food. The staff is terrific. Very friendly and they made us, as well as their customers, feel right at home. We tried the crab dip, which is served in a fresh-baked bread bowl. FANTASTIC! We also tried the meatloaf dinner special with REAL mashed potatoes and bbq brisket and ribs. I really wish I had gotten a photo of the bbq. Wow. I have NEVER, EVER had such a tender, moist and melt in your mouth brisket. They didn't over power it with bbq sauce (which was also tangy and sweet), because it didn't need it. I can't wait to get back and try it again...which I'm told they will continue to make throughout the rest of the summer. They also have all you can eat crabs for $24.95. They are #2's for the most part....but still a great price. I saw MANY happy customers while we were there. The bar crowd/karaoke crowd was a lot of fun too. We enjoyed our time hosting there and are looking forward to going back again next weekend to host another show. read more

My friends and I used to frequent Market Street Cafe every Wed for Burger Night. At first it was awesome. Great food and great beer selection. For the past few months, it has gone downhill. First, the window air conditioner was broken and they wouldn't open the windows when it was over 100 degrees. We typically sit in the back where it is more like a restaurant. Second, the burgers are usually wrong. We used to have a great waitress, but that has changed. Not sure if it's the waitress getting the orders wrong of if the cook just doesn't pay attention. Third, they are usually out of good draft beer. Last week, something crawled up my friends leg while we were eating. He said it looked like a roach. Oh, and they are not kid friendly - no children's menu. I hope they read this and make some changes. read more
