Came in early Sunday morning as we've been craving for some good 'ol barbecue. This came up as a suggested place for good brisket and barbecue. We got a family take out order at 5:30 p.m., on a Friday night. We have gotten perfect take out in the past. But apparently they're under new owners. Our pit beef sandwiches were not the quality we've been used to in the past. The meat was over cooked, sliced thicker than normal and wasn't chopped before being put onto the sandwich roll. As a result, all the meat would pull out with each bite. And being over cooked it was too chewey. It was like trying to eat a piece of leather. You need to do better. Maybe we'll give you another chance, but maybe not. We work too hard for our money to be met with food that no one in the family enjoys or likes to eat. I threw half of my sandwich away. read more

Ribs & fries excellent but wings are less than ok. Didn't expect BBQ wings to be breaded which killed the taste of the wings. I expected smoky wings. Most of the 2 star rating was based on the absolute amount of time it took to just prepare my meal (over an hour). The prior meal I ordered from them took 1 hour & 45 minutes from start of prepare to end of prepare! The Grub Hub drivers arrive for p/u but are sent back home by establishment to p/u food at a later time. Some of the food is really good but some is not & some is a "hit & miss" situation on different days. Brisket dried out on one day & a week later it's fantastic. Corned beef was super overcooked, dried out & literally dripping grease; sandwich bread was soaked in grease & uneatable. I didn't think you could do that to corned beef & why would they have released it to be eaten like that! My and my girlfriend decided to try this place on a whim. Turns out to be the best food choice we've made in a long time. Food is outstanding. We got the pulled pork and brisket. It was all super tender, juicy, and flavorful. The Mac n cheese was awesome. The fries were similar to Thrashers which makes them some of the best in Bel Air. Service was amazing as well. Food came out in a timely manner. Only downside is there isn't much room to eat inside but they do have outdoor seating as well. If you're in the mood for barbecue then definitely check this place out. Way better than Mission BBQ. read more

This is not an authentic BBQ restaurant. I ordered the brisket sandwich and a half rack of ribs with hush puppies and a brownie. Let's start with the brownie because it's the only good thing I had. It was a brownie -- rather hard to mess up. The hush puppies were dry and as hard as stones. Soaking them in the cup of the ranch they come with seemed to help a bit. The ribs must have been from a pigeon; they were small and cooked in what I will assume was a pressure cooker or crock pot. There is no flavor other than the overly sweet BBQ sauce that I will guess is probably Kraft sauce or some different cheap version. The brisket -- the entire reason I decided to write this at all. It sucked; it was probably the worst brisket I've ever had! Not smoked, possibly boiled, or maybe cooked in a pressure cooker. There is no smoke, no seasoning, absolutely no flavor at all. This place makes AMAZING pit beef and brisket. Over the last few years we've ordered catering from Bird's Nest for Father's Day and several other family celebrations. My husband, father-in-law, and sons couldn't be happier! The beef is cooked to perfection, the fries are very much like Thrashers in OC, which makes them a crowd pleaser, and the green beans are fresh and cooked with bits of ham. Delicious! My only suggestion for improvement is in the vibe when you walk in. They aren't super friendly and welcoming. Perhaps because it's a small family owned shop and they're all exhausted from working all the time, but even so, as a paying customer a friendly smile and pleasant tone goes a long way. Great food at BNB! We finished some beers over at Ale Craft and walked over to Birds Nest to place a carryout order. They had a steady flow of people coming in to pick up orders, but we didn't have to wait long. Great pit beef, ham, and turkey sandwiches! They really lay the meat on thick and I had enough leftover for 3 sandwiches total! The fried green beans were also delicious and super crispy with a teriyaki dipping sauce. Every time I was downtown and felt a little hungry, I would stop by Bird's Nest and grab something. Anything. Nothing in particular. Sometimes I'd grab a spiral cut potato on a stick. This ain't some sliced up lunch meat turkey crap that you can get at the other "pit" places in town. This is the real deal - sliced pit turkey, and the flavor is RE DONK ULOUS! Real turkey cooked on a pit and then sliced just for your sandwich! GetUpAndGetchaSome! My choice for the wings was a mix of "mild" and "BirdsNest Own." Mild is like a buffalo wing sauce that you'd expect, only better, and not really too spicy, but totally awesome. "BirdsNest Own" is like a thick BBQ sauce mixture that has deep flavor tones and kept my guests coming back for more. Did I mention that the French fries rock?!? Even ordering a pit beef rare has the meet coming out very dry and overly cooked. The French Fries are good, but are often overcooked. With a picture of a raven and an oriole on the front of their menu, I doubt these guys care much what Alabama thinks of their product, but here it is anyway. I was expecting ketchupy, goopy Maryland BBQ, and I was not wrong to do so. When in Rome, et seq. I went in intending to try a classic Maryland pit beef sandwich, but I was intimidated by the ambitious range of the menu and wound up with a half rack of ribs and fries. Their "Raven sauce" is pretty good for what it is, a hot catsup-based sauce liberally basted over the ribs. The ribs themselves fell off the bone, so even if you don't mind getting ketchup all over your fingers, use a fork. Even through the sauce, I could tell that the meat was well smoked, and I thought it almost a shame that it was drowning in sauce, even though it was good sauce. But what you gonna do? You're in Maryland. The fries are fresh-cut potatoes fried in peanut oil, similar to (but better than) Five Guys. As I said, the menu is long, and probably deserves more consideration than I gave it. Fortunately for return customers, they have it on paper. Not much of anyplace to sit, so you'll want to take it with you, which is slightly complicated by the likelihood that you'll have to park on a sidestreet and walk a couple of blocks to get there. They always short you when you order the brisket. When you order the pulled pork it comes in a 1LB container - no issues. The brisket - not so much. When I went to pick up the order the 12 year old who served it to me (yes - I think they were 12) said "be careful - keep it level - there's a lot of juice in there".
