What a relief from the insanity that is Foxwood Casino. We originally were supposed to room with some friends in two suites there, but after some thought, we decided we did want to get some sleep and stay in our own room instead. However, foxwood was sold out. So we looked around and on a whim found this magical little place. In visiting our friend's suite, it is clear we made the right choice. In contrast, our cozy little room was so relaxing, well decorated, and had a fireplace and jacuzzi bathtub. We got a home made breakfast the next morning, and the entire vibe of the place feels like staying at a family friend's house. If we planned on coming to this area often, I probably wouldn't review this since I would want it to stay a secret. Thank so much for an incredible relaxing moment away, and wonderful hospitality and atmosphere!!

This is a wonderful place to stay. 5-Stars all the way! The innkeeper, Erika, is professional and very efficient and she did an excellent job of making us feel welcomed. The rooms are as pictured, well furnished, with plenty of the essentials. We stayed in the Downeast room, which was well appointed with cherry-smoked firewood for the fireplace, a large private porch with table and seating for 6 and a skylight that has a retractable shade. The common areas are clean and well maintained. A cozy breakfast area is ready to go, for a must have, the complimentary home-cooked organic breakfast from 8-10am. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the common dining area or in your room. Complimentary beverages, such as soda, coffee and tea are stocked and neatly arranged in the main area for the enjoyment of their guests. The bathroom is well stocked and the water pressure is excellent. We never ran out of hot water either, which happens often in some smaller establishments. We didn't go, but Foxwoods Casino is practically walking distance from the Inn. Probably a plus for many people. We will absolutely be back!! We are looking forward to seeing the grounds in later spring. It is obvious that the landscaping is well maintained and thoughtfully designed. Overall, the very loved and calming atmosphere at "ALHI" is an absolute destination for a romantic getaway or if you just need a quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Every detail of our room at Abbey's was perfection! My partner and I stayed in the Southwest room for a long weekend and it was as cozy and lovely as we hoped. The room smelled like wood when you walked in, and the decor was wonderful, with relaxing candles and lavender amenities. The fireplace and bathtub got a lot of use, as we visited in chilly February. We did not use the patio this time of year, but even so, the hanging bulbs outside looked beautiful. The service at Abbey's was wonderful and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast was so fresh and delicious that I was excited to go to sleep each night so I could wake up for our morning meal! You can tell how much Erika and Peter care about their guests, with extra touches here and there. Though we were visiting during COVID, we always felt very comfortable and we could tell that very careful safety measures were taken. We will definitely be visiting Abbey's Lantern Hill Inn again!

My daughter and I had an absolute blast piloting the boat, and once we got over the fear factor that we were going "too fast" and gained confidence in piloting the boat for the first time, it felt like second nature. We did the 3 hour Mystic River tour which ended with a "free sail" hour at the end. However, we opted not to go out into the Sound due to heavily windy conditions, so we stayed in the channel in the "playground" area doing donuts and figure-eights. Before we knew it the 3 hours was up. Rob was a great host and he taught us how to pilot the boats in no time. He was also very knowledgeable of the Mystic seaport area. We had a great time and will absolutely be making this a regular part of our yearly Mystic trips!

The reviews were all highly praising and it looked like a fun experience. I have to say: don't hesitate! Book them! Rob was a pro guide and made sure we understood how to operate our boat safely and how to get the most fun out of it. Yes, there are safety things that you need to be aware of, but he was very encouraging of us trying out what the boat can do. We loved getting to do donuts in our boat! The tour itself was very informative, and we really got a feel for the area. We're already looking forward to returning for another season with a full group of friends to rent out all the boats. This is a must-do activity when visiting Mystic. Be sure to arrive on time as requested so that you can be briefed on the safety. That is so important, and that is why they tell you in advance that you will be turned away if you are late to the safety briefing. For those of you who may be wondering, there is ample parking, and it was about a 15-20 minute drive with traffic from downtown Mystic. Again, a huge thank you to Rob for being an awesome guide and helping us have the best experience possible for my husband's birthday surprise. Hope to see you again soon!

We were looking for an activity that would be fun for a multigenerational group of 23 people with toddlers, seniors, and everyone in between. We had been in communication with Oliver for months in advance. About two weeks before the big day, we saw that the forecast called for showers throughout Memorial Day weekend, particularly the Sunday of our planned cruise. We monitored the weather and decided to make a decision closer to the day. Throughout the entire process of planning, Oliver was responsive, reliable, accommodating, and kind. On the morning of the trip, Oliver gave us multiple options and worked with us to make sure that we could cancel and get a full refund due to the inclement weather. He provided us with agency up to the last hour of decision making. On a day that could have been really stressful, Oliver alleviated some of that stress. That is exceptional customer service, and that is the reason we will be coming back to the Argia for another special occasion. Highly recommend working with Oliver and his team if you get the chance!

It is the only organization with permission to bring visitors to New London Ledge Lighthouse, which features incredible views from smack dab in the middle of Long Island Sound. Great fun for lighthouse aficionados and those who want to get out on the water! But be warned that other than the AMAZING views, there isn't much to actually see inside the house. If you're expecting a museum or activities for your kids, you might be disappointed and would be better off taking a science cruise. For the lighthouse trip, you will take a boat out to the 1909 working lighthouse and then be given a tour. Don't worry if boats make you nervous, this one is built to keep school kids safe and happy so you will feel very secure! The whole trip is about 2.5 hours and you spend 1.5 hours at the lighthouse. The architecture and history are really cool. The rest of the time you're cruising on Long Island Sound, which is a fun and relaxing activity in itself! The science expeditions are really Project O's forte. The super knowledgeable staff provide a hands-on experience you will love. You will be taught some basic marine science and geography of the area, then you take over as the scientists. Some of the activities include: collecting and testing water and mud samples at depth, visiting the captain to learn about navigation, and best of all: pulling in a trawl net full of Long Island Sound critters! If you are looking for a half-day activity that a gets you out on the water, familiarizes you with the area, is educational, and/or is just a little different than your usual tourist exercise: this is for you. You can certainly manage to stay clean and dry on these cruises but you will have much more fun if you go prepared to get wet and dirty! The boat's cabin is heated. However, you will want an extra layer of clothing for when you're outside. That's where all the good stuff happens. The price is very reasonable: just $19 for adults and $16 for kids. Make sure you call ahead... they will cancel the cruise if they don't get any reservations in advance and on popular days they can sell out! There is a very basic cafe for sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, drinks etc in the building but it's nothing to rave about. However, it's worth leaving a little extra time to wander around the immediate area. The building is located on the UConn - Avery Point campus which is beautiful and easy to walk. Project Oceanology also offers summer camps, scout programs, and birthday parties. I don't know why the website isn't listed here but there is lots more info at http://www.oceanology.org

The drive to the casino is 10 minutes or less. We really could not have been any happier with the whole experience. My girlfriend and I brought our two dogs down to the house and we were instantly amazed at the view from both the top and lower decks. Having the ability to have all of us use the inside-outside space and really feel as if we were part of nature for the entire trip was amazing for us. We got lucky with the weather and the views of the lake were absolutely outstanding. Having decks on both the upstairs area off the kitchen as well as downstairs right on the water was absolutely perfect for us. Our dogs could kind of run around a little bit and really enjoy being outside. Having the ability to jump right off the dock into the water and have your own private little swimming area was fantastic. We live near the city, so we really were amazed at how quiet the lake was all day long. My understanding of the lake is they do not allow motorboats so it was unbelievably quiet all day long. It was super peaceful and relaxing. Having the ability to wake up to a clear sky and immediately open French doors to the upper deck so we could have breakfast outdoors was priceless. My dogs loved being able to swim and lounge around in the sun. Molly gave us some great recommendations of hiking spots we could take our dogs. One was a mountain and another was a path along a beach. They were so nice and the views were outstanding. Everything we needed for our trip was already conveniently at the house. They have two grills, one on the top porch and one on the bottom porch, which was awesome for me as I love to grill. They provided us with kayaks, a canoe, and fishing rods. We took a great ride in the kayaks along the water. There is another review on Yelp of the property that is a little bit dramatic, IMO. The house is on a road right on the water. Some of the properties in the area are run down but I'm unsure how that is this property owners fault. Thisnhouse is a nice little cabin and is well maintained. There IS shrubbery outside the house but it's a cabin on the water.....the whole point is you want to be close to nature. And there ARE spiders and mosquitos outside the property....thats part of nature. The house was not musty at all, nor were the carpets dirty. I really couldnt have been happier with this experience. I would very enthusiastically recommend this property!!!!!
