We rented the cottage as we have a dog. The room was nice, however not if you don't like spiders. The ad stated fenced in backyard. Note the "yard" is a small patio with rocks, not grass. Your pup may have difficulty if they're used to grass. Also we pulled a dozen ticks off of our dog while on property. The fire pits are a nice touch but no other amenities. Very close to Foxwoods. My husband and i decided to look for a b&b near mystic for a quick getaway and we were very lucky to find Abbey's. The inn keeper Erika was amazing and very accommodating as we only needed the room for one night. We stayed in the Southwest room. It was large & the decor was on point. I just spent an amazing weekend at the inn. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and there for you to enjoy. We grilled and had a fire one night. We stayed in the cottage because we brought our dog. It was very clean and very comfortable. Our pup Tessie loved the fenced in patio. Erika who runs the inn was great, and told us to run the dog around the yard. The bed and bedding were country comfy. Every morning we got up for a fresh cup of joe and a pastry. Next we had blueberry pancakes, fresh fruit salad, eggs, and sausage. Not to mention all the great cereals and teas. I decided to surprise my fiance with a spontaneous 2 day getaway to the Mystic CT area last week and chose Abbeys lantern hill inn to stay. It was a fantastic decision. We were comfortable from the minute we arrived. The grounds were outstandingly detailed. The inn is impeccable. We stayed in the Southwest room with its own personal deck with privacy, a jetted tub and fireplace. Very romantic. The bed was super comfortable. Our host Peter was very gracious and he is also a master at scrambled eggs! LOL We would recommend Abbeys to anyone wishing to stay in the area. Access to all the surrounding sites was a breeze. My boyfriend and I wanted a night away to relax and had seen how many great reviews this property had. Upon arriving I was ready to pack up and go home. I was so dissapointed especially for the amount we had paid. Our room felt like a motel, not homey or cozy at all. There were a millions noises throughout the night between the heater and the refrigerator. On the website,prior to covid, it mentioned complimentary snacks and beverages in the common area so expected something in the room since that was closed. No robes in the room for after a bath. The breakfast was horrible - the bacon was so burnt you couldn't bite it. The eggs had an odd taste. To me this place did not feel welcoming and felt just like a random motel you find last minute. I am very dissapointed and I don't see where all the 5 star reviews came from. The second our breakfast was delivered we left right away to go sleep at home. My boyfriend and I were walking around outside to see the property. He went to the main entrance door to see if it was open. A man came to the door all suspicious treating us like we were trying to break in. My bf had seen a bunch of pamphlets from the door on things to do in the area so was trying to open the door to get those. So after that man did that we were already ready to just go home. With the noises we got no sleep and felt I spent way too much on this place. What a shame read more

This was my second trip to the inn. My boyfriend and I stayed in the separate cottage with our two pups (approx 30 lbs each). And this was during the corona virus pandemic. We just needed to get out of NY and get away for a few days. We barely left the inn and that was just fine with us!! The property itself is so nice, they have a grill, seating areas, and a bonfire pit. Even though I've never stayed in the main house, it looks like almost all of them have some kind of balcony or outdoor seating-deck area. They have a beautiful trail in the back of the property through their enchanted forest that hooks up with the trail from Foxwoods. The last time I was here, the trail on their property was not complete so I was happy to see it up and running!! The breakfasts are beyond delicious! I had strawberry rhubarb pancakes one day and blueberry the other! Complete with bacon, homemade yogurt, chia pudding, granola, fruit salad, fresh baked monkey bread... just fantastic!!! The people that own it are very nice, accommodating, and quiet. Even if the casino isn't your thing, there is a bunch to do within 30 min, nice historic areas, shopping, etc. surrounding restaurants leave something to be desired, but if the casino is open, dinner shouldn't be a problem. Everything was clean and fresh. My only "complaint" is that there was no screen on the sliding door so we couldn't keep it open for the dogs to reach the fenced in yard for the cottage, but I get why they do it, so you don't run the AC and keep all the doors and windows open. Regardless, it won't stop us from going back. read more

Abbey's is an awesome getaway for a night or a bunch of nights, especially if you have a dog. "The Cottage" has a fenced in back yard so you can let your dog out early in the morning or sit at the private table and chair to drink your morning coffee in the sunshine. Erica is more then pleasant to be around and very helpful. She offered us some wine glasses when we arrived and when I asked for some extra towels, that was not a problem, along with some extra shampoo. In the morning, we went over to her kitchen / dining room at the main house and she had all organic milk, cream, cereals, for our week day breakfast, but if we wanted some eggs or something else she was more then happy to comply. We're not breakfast eaters, but when we found a place to stay near Foxwoods that would let us take dogs, we really found the perfect spot. The Cottage was private and so nicely decorated, along with a thick comfy mattress and comforter. Since there was snow on the ground, I put my sodas in the snow overnight since there was no refrigerator or microwave, but I was told I could use the one in the main kitchen. Outside there is a fire pit and plenty of places to go for a walk with the dog. Erica did tell me she's trying to make a walking trail out the back that would go for miles, but she needed the town's okay to build a couple bridges. However, we went for a long woodsy walk out behind Two Trees Inn where there is a dog walk that is just down street from Abbey's, close to Foxwoods. Abbey's is perfect. My first time at a bed and breakfast, I don't think I'd want to stay in a hotel again with having people coming and going all through the night, coming back tipsy and loud; Abbey's is quiet, peaceful and safe. I had no problem leaving my dog there while we went to Foxwoods. I would think if he barked too much, Erica should have called, but she did not hear him once. We'll be returning again Erica! Our stay at Abbey's Lantern Hill Inn was truly unacceptable. We arrived exactly on time for a 3pm check-in. I was so excited, as I should have been for $300/nt with my fiancé and our 2 friends who were getting married nearby. We spent a total of 2 hours at the B&B. That's right, 2 hours. We were so busy being gone and off-site for our wedding and festivities that we spent 2 hours that day getting dressed, that's it. A well advertised perk of this B&B is that one of the countries largest Casinos (Foxwoods) is 5 minuets down the road. So after being gone all day and night for a wedding + casino, we arrived back at Abbey's at 3am in cabs. We spent a few minutes outside saying goodnight to friends and putting others in cabs home. We were all in our mid-30s (I.e. not drunk, loud kids) and yet as we walked inside the building to our room, Abbey / manager stumbled out of her bedroom, creepily, in the dark, in her robe and unkindly said "you're all too loud. We can't sleep. Our windows are open." To which I SHOULD HAVE replied --- then close your windows. We've been gone the entire time and just got home in cabs wishing our friends goodnight after the casino, which you advertise after charging us $600 for one night. This woman was not my mother but she made me feel like we violated curfew. She embarrassed us and was TOTALLY inappropriate. The next morning, our friend the bride cried in the car over the treatment. Not to mention, after all this, they had a water leak in their room, too. Do not stay here. read more

We just spent a wonderful, relaxing 3 nights at Abbey's Lantern Inn. My husband and I and our dog stayed in the Cottage. It's like your own apartment - a large room with roomy bathroom, wonderfully soft towels, a fenced in backyard with table and chairs as well as a romantic lighted side deck with a small table and chairs. The grounds are just breathtaking and include a covered deck with comfortable chairs and a fire pit with adirondack chairs. Erika serves a delicious breakfast and is a gracious hostess. Everything about the Inn is comfortable and cozy. There is plenty to see and do in the area. We look forward to spending time there again soon. read more

My husband and I stayed at Abbey's Lantern Hill Inn earlier this month and had an excellent experience. We stayed in the Southwest room for two nights and found it to be spacious, clean and comfortable. I liked that the place was charming and "felt" like a cute and romantic B&B, but was actually much newer and cleaner than many B&B's. Erika the innkeeper was an attentive and engaging hostess, and she gave us many good tips about exploring the area. It may feel like you're in the middle of the woods, but it's actually really quick and easy to get to Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Mystic, CT and the Pequot Museum. We ate dinner at a place nearby that Erika recommended and had an all-around fun and relaxing getaway weekend. We definitely plan to come back! read more

I stayed at Abbey's Lantern Hill Inn in Ledyard Ct. on July17th, 2015. When I returned I wrote a review on Trip Advisor. I am enclosing the review, the owners (Erika's) response through my personal email (not the response she gave on Trip Advisor.) also photos of a card she sent me after I did not repond to her emails or phone calls. Asking me not once, but TWICE to remove my review in exchange for a free night. I have sent this to Trip Advisor and the Better Busness Bureau also. Here's the review -My friend and I arrived at the Inn. We went in to it and there was no one to greet us. Soon a women appeared.I said "Hi."She said "I'll be with you in a moment, I'm with someone else." and left us standing there. She then came back and said again, "I'll be with you in a moment, I'm with someone else." and left us again.No greeting from her at all.No smile, nothing! We then later learned her name was Ericka. She did not introduce herself at any time during our stay. She then came back and said "I'll show you to your room. When you are ready I will show you where the breakfast is." Which she did. She was not very friendly during our stay and was rather rude to my friend and I during breakfast. When we came downstairs for breakfast, I said Hi to Ericka. I started to ask her how we go about ordering breakfast , She replied "You tell me what you want but NOT RIGHT NOW I"M MAKING SOMEONE ELSE'S". My friend had asked Ericka if she would share her recipe for a pear tart she had made. She answered "NO, I DON"T SHARE RECIPES". She never thanked us for staying there either. I was disappointed in the room we stayed in The Country Room, there were large stains on the carpet and there were tiles on the bathroom floor that were not on properly. For 194.00 a night you would think your room would be better. I have stayed at numerous bed and breakfasts and this was not one I would come back to.Usually the owners are friendly and they give you a nice little tour of the home.We were left standing in the hallway!This is more like an Inn than a Bed and Breakfast. The area inside for breakfast is very small just a four person table. The public area inside is in the same small area where the breakfast table is,very small. That's it! The rest are rooms.There are outside areas to sit at with tables, but what if it rains? Here's her response written in a personal email-- Dear Sandra & Jane, I'm writing to express my regret that your stay here did not meet your expectations and that you felt you were treated rudely. That would certainly never be my intention, and I am very upset you felt this way.
