Currently involving the BBB because they refuse to refund my booking. Policy states you can get a refund for more than one night if you cancel 10 days before and get a refund minus $40. Was told over the phone they would refund me and they never sent it. Reached out again and they said they would get back to me on 7-3-2025. It is now 7-16 and still no call back or refund. They haven't responded to the complaint with BBB either. I will take them to court if I have to. Terrible owners, Carol even admitted she wasn't as attentive to the hotel as she should be. Do the right thing and give me my refund. Update. After calling several times, the owner sent me a check. I still wouldn't book with them again because of the need to fight for my refund. read more

This was my husband's and my first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast...and we are so glad it was Captain Grant's! We decided to go to Foxwoods for my husband's birthday weekend. Usually, we stay at the casino, but the rates this weekend were astronomical! We looked at some local chain hotels and their prices were also through the roof. Then, we remembered that Captain Grant's 1754 was nearby, and we have been wanting to stay here since we had seen "28 Days Haunted" on Netflix. We didn't experience anything particularly supernatural, but this inn was so beautiful and cozy. Also, very reasonably priced. We stayed in the Colette room, and it was perfect for us. The property is beautiful and the cemetery in the back was very cool. Definitely felt some unusual vibes in there. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Sadly, we couldn't stay for breakfast because I was having some issues with my blood sugar, but we saw the setup and wish that we could have! Everything smelled amazing! We recently stayed at Captain Grant's 1754. What a wonderful experience. Owners, Carol and Ted, were so gracious, warm, and inviting. Staying here was a highlight of our trip to Connecticut and Rhode Island. It was home base. We were treated like family. Each morning, we had a delicious full breakfast on the back patio with Carol and Ted. The rooms are gorgeous, and the inn is immaculate. What an incredible "step back in time." I did not see any ghosts, but I'm sure they're around. Don't miss this amazing gem. read more

We spent a nice getaway weekend from the city life and this cute bed and breakfast was perfect! Ted and Carol were the warmest and friendliest hosts anyone could ever ask for. The morning breakfasts and conversations was the highlight of our day. Ted gave us a nice tour of the place along with the restorations and history of the inn. He also gave us recommendations where to eat and enjoy ourselves. I originally was searching for a haunted experience and this inn popped up, the second night we had some "visitors" but nothing malicious lol. We stayed in the Adelaide room and sherry was available for us along with a cozy bed with fireplace. Old Mystic village was a hit along with visiting the famous Mystic Pizza restaurant, the house special pizza is amazing!! Will be coming back soon!!! read more

READ THIS BEFORE EVEN THINKING OF GOING TO THIS PLACE!! When we arrived no one was there to check us in. We also had a huge problem as something we had arranged with the owner Carol was way out of whack. They have no phone # listed to call & I remembered reading somewhre she lived next door in the Avery House. So wife & I went next door, no one answered, so around back we found a staircase to the 2 story deck. We knocked on the door and her husband Ted answers the wreaking of booze. We asked him why the arrangements we had made with Carol and had email confirmation was wrong. He had no answer, we asked for a refund and said we would drive home 2 hours disappointed but not mad. He walked away & then Carol comes storming up to the door drunker than Ted refusing to refund us, telling us lie after lie when we had proof in an email of the arrangement. We repeatedly gave her an opportunity to make things right with a refund & she repeatedly told us no, deal with it. Not one apology, just slurring of words and lies. So we went next door to the Inn. The following is the truth, the whole Inn smelled like a barn & had moths flying all over the inside. I have video proof of the moths. After a few hours we decided to just drive home & not stay the night. The next day I messaged Carol asking for at least half my money back & told her most business owners at least care about good reviews if not good customer service. She told me that I was committing extortion & had stolen a bunch of things in an effort to scare. Well I don't steal & don't want anything but an apology. To say I am disappointed by the owners of this inn would be a gross understatement. The owners are salespeople in the worst possible way - they over-promise, absurdly underdeliver, and are, plain and simple, greedy. I was the maid of honor and de facto wedding planner for a wedding held at the inn on Saturday, September 25. When we first visited on March 6 we had a tour of the grounds with Carol and Ted, discussed our vision for the wedding reception, our expectations for the number of people attending, and how we expected the weekend to go. We booked the inn for 2 rooms on the night of September 23 and all 7 available rooms as well as the Stagecoach Inn down the road - essentially renting out the entire property - for the nights of the 24th and 25th. Between March 6 and May 22, I was in contact with Carol going over logistics and having questions answered multiple times. On May 22 I sent an email asking if we could rent the additional 3 rooms in the main house - so renting out the entire main house - on Thursday, September 23. Carol confirmed that those rooms were available and that we could rent them, which we did. Without getting too in the weeds there were some additional red flags through the summer but, because of all the planning we had done up to that point, we didn't feel that we were able to change venues. We were hoping against hope that our fears would not be confirmed and that everything would go smoothly. Personally, between phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings I had spoken to Carol about the logistics of our event at least 12 separate times. We arrived on Thursday of wedding weekend to find that the owners had overbooked the inn and parts of our wedding party had to be displaced. This was AFTER confirming with Carol, again, that we had reserved all 5 rooms IN THE MAIN HOUSE for Thursday night. Ted not only refused to look at any of the emails or documentation that I had confirming our reservations he moved forward with checking the other guests in and then never came back to address the issue. When the issue was brought up to him he was incredibly rude and unprofessional stating that it didn't matter the conversations I had with Carol because I hadn't had any with him. What?!? We dealt with 6 different vendors to make this wedding weekend a reality and all were amazing - except Carol and Ted. They have the sweetest staff of ladies who are lovely and so kind and Carol and Ted are incredibly degrading and rude to them and it is painful to witness. Carol and Ted put on a great salesperson facade but it is all fake. They are greedy, mean people. To anyone considering having an event here, please do not. What you will be promised is not what you will receive and you will end up spending thousands of dollars to be spoken down to, made to feel like a burden, and outright lied to. It will not matter if you have email proof - as I did, it will not matter if you had actual phone conversations - as I did, nor will it matter if you had in-person conversations - as I did! Rather than billing this as a haunted inn, they should bill it as an inn in an alternate reality because when you walk through the doors for your event the only thing that will be real to the owners is what they have decided is real. The general house needs a good cleaning. Dust everywhere and cob webs and spiders by the beams in the low ceilings. Breakfast was not all that good either . I won't go into details. A fantastic mid 1700's homestead. Our accommodations were as depicted. We were in CT for a family wedding. Carol & Ted are phenomenal - very flexible and accommodated our schedule changes as we were in the wedding party. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious! Ted & Carol dine with their guests. There are many hotels and B&Bs that we like a lot, but only one that we consider to be a home away from home. We have been using this for more than a dozen years. Ted and Carol, the proprietors, are a wealth of knowledge about the area, and always ready to make your visit memorable. We have stayed in nearly all of the rooms and never seen one of the ghosts that they are famous for, but we never really expected a ghostly sighting. On our last visit we were buzzed by an osprey and saw a fox running towards us. The breakfasts always include amazing food and good company. Highly recommended! read more

What a great place with so much character. We spent 3 nights here and fell in love with the Inn and most of all, our hosts. Ted and Carol are the hosts and John is their right hand who seems to take care of all the odds and ends from serving breakfast to yard work etc etc etc. they are an unbeatable trio. There may be others behind the scenes as well, but these three lovely folk are the only ones we saw and met and are definitely, 'front and center'. The inn of course, was built in 1754 and it houses all the charm of an aged sentinel that has stood the test of time, safely guarding it's occupants. Oh if only these walls (and floors) could talk, as they say. Before we were out of the car, Ted ambled up behind us and greeted us by name, offered to get our bags and immediately took us on a tour of the Inn. They (Ted and Carol) generously provide cakes and cookies, along with cold drinks and wine for their guests in the dining room. Mugs for coffee and tea in the sitting room. WiFi also available. Antiques decorate the lower level of the Inn and over one particular antique hangs a portrait of Captain Grant himself. Keeping an eye over those who frequent his family home. Write ups from local paper and mentions from HGTV and CNN are found around the place and make for interesting reading. There is also a large game room with board games, TV and a pool table available. The lovely (7ft wide, I think) staircase is adorned with a mural depicting the town and the original known buildings back in the 1700s. There is also a lovely OLD cemetery behind the Inn with stones dating back to the 1600s. Quite remarkable that they are still standing and still legible for the most part. All of this helps helps you step back through the centuries. When you get to your room, your travel through time is complete. We stayed in the Adelaide room and my was it cozy! What a great room, with great 'bones' and a lovely vibe to it. Very peaceful. The window box a/c did it's job splendidly through the rare heatwave we experienced here in CT and there was also a Fireplace for chillier and more usual evenings. The bed is super comfortable and would you believe Ted and Carol even provide a complimentary decanter of Sherry to send you off to sleep. Even though the bathroom is small it is a full ensuite and in this old of a home, it was surely a feat adding one in there at all. Ted and Carol also provide shampoo/conditioner and soap as well as plenty of towels etc, fresh every day! TV with complete cable package should you just choose to hibernate and enjoy/soak up your surroundings. Carol has poured her heart and soul into this Inn and it is evident. Her love for it emanates from every inch. Carol is a very talented lady. She is also a great cook and a published author. Speaking of cooking, breakfasts have been a treat and Ted and Carol actually join in keeping the banter going between all of the guests. The table settings are exquisite and would make any old, stately, home proud. Fine china in complete settings greeted us each morning. Came across this bed and breakfast while looking for haunted places to stay for vacation. Once we pulled in we were greeted by the groundskeeper who was very friendly and welcomed us. From there we were introduced to Ted; co-owner of the inn. He was very nice and very caring and interested about myself as well as my wife and just learning more about us. He showed us all around noting what we can do, what's local to the area, when they serve breakfast, etc. When reviewing use of the kitchen, he took initiative in asking if we there were any dietary restrictions and upon learning of my wife's gluten allergy, stated they would make breakfast for her without any issue. We stayed in the Amy bedroom which was quiet regarding ghost activity for most of the stay. The journals provided a fair history of previous guests' experiences and somewhat of an outline of what to expect. While staying there, I experienced an odd dream and heard many heavy footsteps pacing back and forth each night around 12/12:30. Super intriguing! When having breakfast, French toast, cream cheese eggs, sausage, strawberry compote, various juices, and coffee were some of the items served. All of which were very tasty thanks to the works of their staff. Additionally, my wife had a great experience with her gluten free French toast, having no symptoms of cross contamination which is a big win in our book. While at breakfast, Carol, the other co-owner and Ted told us the history of their ownership with the inn as well as the challenges they've faced. They gave some very interesting insight as to how they came upon the furniture with Ted making some by hand. Not much was told about the history of the home and how it came to be the "most haunted inn in CT." Sleeping in the Amy room left some things to be desired. While the bed was roomy enough to hold my wife and myself (we're not exactly big people), we can't say it was very cozy, the mattress itself was fairly hard with not much support. The window to the left of the room could not be kept open and had glass even if it was to be opened. The fireplace was beautiful and was gas powered which was great. It could be controlled by the thermostat attached but could not be turned off which makes things a little warm throughout the night. We imagine summers may be a tad hot. We made a quick trip and purchased a fan that we put in the window facing out to the road to rectify this. When first walking into the room, the switch immediately left of you will not turn on anything and we could not figure out for the week we were there what it would turn on but assume it was to a plug. The Amy room also contained a bathroom with a toilet and shower/tub. The inn supplied body wash, shampoo, and conditioner all in the shower which was a nice little touch. That being said, the bathroom door would close but did not have anything to latch onto in order to stay closed. So hopefully you're comfortable with your partner lol. All in all, the experience there is unique and offers a trip back in time to think of what history has happened with the residents and owners of the house. Hearing how much has gone on with the property as well as knowing close by, Captain Grant may be still watching from the graveyard or in a nearby room is as exciting as it is haunting. Ted and Carol were lovely and are more than happy to have had us and answer anything we came up with. The property is quite large, even holding a three story deck, game room, and a significant amount of land you might just be able to explore. If this all sounds like something you'd want to tackle we'd say go for it but we would also say it can not be for everyone read more

I am generally not inclined to leave reviews of places and generally reward great service with repeated business and spreading information on a good experience by word of mouth. I literally just returned from a 3-1/2 day stay for a wedding at Captain Grant's 1754--and I want to warn potential customers and especially wedding parties and the like to STAY AWAY. My reasons are outlined below: 1. Ted and Carol have at best unprofessional and at worst deceptive business practices. After multiple instances of confirming in both email and via phone that our wedding party booked ALL 5 rooms in the main inn we arrived only to find that TWO additional couples had been booked for the same day our wedding party arrived. This was brought to Ted's attention and rather than confirming what was agreed with Carol---he brushed us off and said we were dealing with him now??! 2. It took a year to plan for the wedding and over time it became apparent that neither Ted or Carol have any problem having you come crash someone else's wedding to inspect the inn for your event or double book others AFTER you have already made reservations with them and paid well in excess of what another customer could later pay for a room you already reserved for a large wedding party. This is simply greed and lack of integrity! 3. On the surface Ted appears to be cordial and nice, but he is very rude to his hotel staff and talks down at the women who work for them. I witnessed this several times and spoke with hotel staff about it. A lady admitted to crying virtually everyday she comes to work. Ted is an understated jerk. The ladies who work here are THE REASON for all that is good about it. It ends with them. 4. These folks do not take notes and cared nothing for the details of the rental items that were being delivered to the inn for the wedding. We explicitly stated that the rental company would deliver extra tables, chairs, dishes, coolers, etc. for the wedding and would return to pick them up the Monday following the Saturday wedding. Carol agreed to this. They then expected us to take all the items delivered with us as we checked out Sunday morning! Our party was up at 7 AM that Sunday morning and we cleaned up, packed up, and neatly staged all the rental items out of the way where the rental company would return to pick them up. This was not good enough and Carol insisted we move everything to the Inn basement as they had "other guests arriving". On top of the thousands of dollars that were paid to book the inn we paid another $500 as an "event fee"....for apparently nothing. We literally set up everything for the cocktail hour and reception, had a chef and catering team do all the cooking and serving, and we tore everything down and cleaned up such that one would not have known a wedding party was hosted there. Needless to say we refused to move the rental items to the basement of the Inn! 5. While I recognize my personal dislike for B&Bs this one sealed my feeling on the matter of historic type B&Bs. I could not get to sleep because of the never ending creaking of the wood floors from other patrons moving in their beds in their own rooms. If that is the "Haunted" feeling folks want to come here for....that is fine. We needed sleep and rest to host a wedding and got very little of either. 6. There are good reviews of this Inn and the owners here on Yelp, and I cannot dispute the experience of others. I can only offer our experience and I am unequivocally warning all who would consider this inn for an event (wedding, birthdays, etc.) to look elsewhere. My verdict on this place is: the proprietors are unprofessional, greedy, RUDE, and dishonest. Did I say RUDE already?? I will say it again: they are RUDE. 7. If any of the ladies that work at Captain Grant's 1754 ever read this---please know that we appreciated all of you and you are the reason for all the good food and hospitality anyone feels about this place. It came with complimentary drinks and snacks and delicious Creme Sherry was awaiting us in the room. The wonders were wonderfully personable and provided an absolutely delicious breakfast. My friend, Kathy, and I were shown to our room (Adelaide's Room, the most haunted) by Ted, one of the owners. I used our bathroom first, then Kathy. While Kath was in there, I was looking around, standing in the middle of the room ... and the thumb piece of the wrought-iron latch on the bathroom door fell off on the floor. Neither of us was anywhere near it. But, we'd read that many strange things had occurred in our bathroom, so we weren't too surprised. Went out to a great place for a late lunch/early dinner of appetizers, The Harp & Dragon, and then back to the Inn, finding that we were the only two (alive) people in the place. We had received permission to look at all the other beautiful bedrooms and had the run of the house, including a huge game room. While we were reading the journal entries of past guests, a team of 2 paranormal investigators, their dog, and a TV producer (Matt) checked in to spend the night, filming their investigation to make a pitch for a new mini-series. And they were all excited to begin in our Adelaide room! The investigators, Cam and Nick, had all kinds of ghost-hunting equipment (including one scary-looking doll fitted with an electro-magnetic detector) and tried everything they had in order to communicate with whatever spirits were in there. They were great about including Kathy and me in their investigation. We were thrilled, of course, but they were disappointed with the results. Although, when they tried to get the dog to go into the bathroom, the dog growled and barked and backed away. The team went into another room later on, and said they had better luck there. They let us listen to the recording they had of "voices" ... I was skeptical. After breakfast the next morning, the team asked Carol, one of the inn's owners, to use her divining rods to communicate with spirits so they could film her. Carol, Nick and Cam were asking the spirits yes and no questions, and the divining rods moved in according to the answers. Carol's rods "said" (among other things) that there were 8 spirits around the table and more than 300 spirits in the inn. Carol showed me how to correctly use the divining rods that my friend, Mary (a ghost-hunter) made for me. The investigators and producer left after breakfast - we had a wonderful time with them! Kathy and I went to Mohegan Sun on Saturday afternoon, and played poker machines and slots and won about $85 - enough to pay for dinner (cheesesteak sliders and fries) and more, again at the Harp & Dragon. Back in the room on Saturday night, I felt something touch my hair, then my cheek, just for a split second. Like a cool wisp of a breeze. Early to bed on Saturday night, and Kathy was woken by a door opening and slamming, over and over, for about 5 minutes (I was wearing ear plugs and didn't hear it). She thought it was the door to the deck, outside our Adelaide's room, but didn't get up to look. In the morning, she confirmed that that door was difficult to open - it sticks. None of the other guests heard it, but they were all out late, having to gone to a show at Mohegan. Another excellent breakfast on Sunday, with owners Carol, Ted and other guests. Carol used my necklace to demonstrate to a skeptical guest how she communicates with spirits using a pendulum/pendant. He was not convinced. I bought Carol's book, "The Ghosts of Captain Grant's Inn" and am looking forward to reading it. The coolest, most interesting place I've ever stayed EVER. The breakfast was delicious and the innkeepers were very entertaining.

So disappointing! We booked this B and B in February, for a date in June. The owners immediately charged our credit card for the entire amount, fine. Now, with only a few weeks until our reservation date, we get a call from the owner cancelling on us! In that time, prices have gone up and most places in the area are already booked. And now, we are left waiting for them to refund our money! Certainly not good business practice! We would never try there again, and would not recommend anyone else take a chance there. read more

Very cute B&B. We stumbled upon this when looking for a cheaper place to stay than Mohegan Sun. At $160 per night, this easily met the bill considering Mohegan Sun wanted $400 per room. Best part, it's just 4 miles from Mohegan so it was close for us. The B &B is in an old historic house. Our bedroom, the Elizabeth room, had a large canopy bed with a private bathroom and complimentary sherry in the room. The house also had compliemtary cake and wine and beer throughout the day. Very nice touch. The breakfast served was also great. I've read other reviews though and it did differ on the day we were there. Still, it was eggs, sausage, and pancakes, with tea and coffee. We found out after breakfast that many people believe the house to be haunted. If you look on their website, they list quite a few articles that reference this haunted B &B. They were hosting a senance after breakfast and it seemed like most people were there for that. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Definitely a B&B experience, dust and mold and quirky hosts and all! You sign up for that with a B&B. What should not be included is poor customer service and bad faith or inept business practices. Held my wedding reception here, and to give credit where credit is due, everything looked beautiful (thanks in large part to the decor and arrangements my group provided), and between the historic New England aesthetic and the friendly (non-owner) Staff, I feel it is appropriate to give two stars! The cost of that beauty was the sanity of my best friend/maid of honor/wedding planner and her husband, who both worked tirelessly throughout to keep my experience from being marred by the stress of dealing with owners who broke faith and made no effort to make restitution to the group that was paying a significant amount of money to rent the place out for the weekend. I can't speculate on why things were not as they should be, but I do know that doing business with the owners was a nightmare. If you book a wedding and the "contract" is scrawled on a napkin - RUN! If you are consistently pushed aside to make room for others without any such accommodations made for you in return... judge for yourself. Please, before booking an event, stay one night. Experience it for yourself before it's too late to back out if you want to. They will make you feel very comfortable during the pitch meeting but my group sadly found that they were unable to maintain the facade of warmth and friendliness. I want to note that my entire group staying commented on the wonderful staff. But no house is so pretty or so haunted or so charming to be worth you sacrificing your well-being and comfort. This bed and breakfast is a must see. The owners Ted and Carol are the nicest people! We stayed here this past weekend because we needed a weekend away. Our goal was to do nothing from Friday night until Sunday afternoon, to relax, and to recharge. This was definitely possible at Captain Grants. We stayed in the Marie room, one of the 7 rooms they offer. The room was very clean, welcoming, and had a huge bathroom. What I really like about this B&B was the fact that all the rooms have their own privet bathrooms. Also, cake and cookies are on the dinning room table all day for your snacking pleasure! Coffee and tea are available as early as 7:30a and available through breakfast. Breakfast was fabulous. We started off with a fruit salad. Then, Carol made scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes. For beverages, OJ, tomato juice, water, coffee, and tea. There were two homemade jams available for tasting, strawberry rhubarb and spiced pear. Amazing! I bought a jar home for $6.00! We paid about $160 a night (including tax) to stay here. Very reasonable price. A lot is included in this nightly rate. The room, breakfast, cake and cookies, a mini-fridge with soda, wine, and beer, a game room with pool table and flat screen TV, and a million board games. Also, we had "free reign" of the house. We didn't feel like we were being supervised and we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. We literally felt like we were staying with our cool Aunt Carol and Uncle Ted. They let us, "do our thing" but also was there if we needed dinner reservations or suggestions on where to go. Friday night when we got there Ted helped us find a place to eat, Valentino's. (I reviewed this too lol) He gave us a card with directions on it, and on the back you got a free dessert or free glass of wine. We opted for the free dessert. (It's the cannoli on my review for Valentino's). This beautiful B&B sits on 6 beautiful acres of land, with a gazebo in the yard. It is about 20 minutes away from Mystic. The only complaint I would give about our stay is that we could hear everything that was going on in the room above us. The Marie room is the only room on the 1st floor, so unless you don't mind hearing other people's footsteps above you, don't stay in this room. Excellent bed and breakfast!!!! I booked a night at Captain Grants as part of a trip to stay at the most haunted bed and breakfasts in the New England states. While I did not experience anything paranormal I did have a wonderful stay. The room was VERY nicely decorated and comfortable and the owners could not have been more accommodating. The owners payed very close attention to every detail of the home and the furnishings were beautiful. I do understand why a ghost would want to stay around Captain Grants.....the breakfast is to die for!!!! Absolute wonderful stay from beginning to end!!! read more

I spent two wonderful nights here last week. My daughter and I wanted to get away and enjoy some R&R after a hectic year. We found the inn charming and spotless. The hosts, Carol and Ted, were very welcoming and congenial. Ted greeted us and offered to help with our bags. The room was all that was promised and more. Breakfast has to be one of the best I've ever enjoyed. Ted showed us the dining room upon our arrival and made sure we knew to help ourselves to beverages and cookies or cakes at any time. He also made sure to provide us with maps and directions to nearby Mystic, gave us great recommendations for restaurants. We will most certainly return as soon as we can get away again. A bonus (for us) was the extra history and spirits attached to the inn. read more

My wife and I needed a getaway from our teen kids and so we chose this B&B not knowing some of it's history. True that my wife likes gambling and I like submarines, so we thought a good place would be this place as it was smack in the middle of all that we were interested in. When we got there we definitely felt the rustic pre-revolutionary war feel of this house. Our inn keepers were on vacation, but John was there to attend to our needs, with great conversation and awesome breakfasts. Now for those that did not know, this inn is supposed to be haunted by spirits from the local cemeteries. GREAT stay at Captian Grant's! Went for business trip and brought a friend with me.. we had FABULOUS breakfast, homemade jams were amazing, plenty for everyone and had great conversation with our breakfast with the guests and the Owner's, Ted and Carol. We stayed in Adelaide Room. It was comfortable and cozy and I loved the furniture matched the 1750's house and the decor was kept the same theme.. Will definately stay here again. Close to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos and not far from Airports. Game room was stocked with cards, games, and a pool table, plenty of room for everyone and plenty to do. We had snacks when we arrived from working and shopping. No ghost encounters but the cemetery was cool to see. Scary place! We booked it without known its history just because everything else was booked around Mohegan sun. Owners are nice but creepy. Our room upstairs smelled like the window was closed since the cap went away. It's a sweet place but I didn't enjoy it because I'm scared of haunted places and was constantly feeling it's not very clean for some reason, maybe I'm wrong. The people were very nice, cooked us a huge breakfast. In the morning my bf saw some red stains in the bathroom, that alone freaked me out, I didn't look but he said it's not a joke. My boyfriend surprised me with a nights stay at Captain Grants. Carol and Ted were lovely hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The most delicious breakfast and wonderful conversation with our hosts and they even accommodated my gluten-free diet! On the supernatural sightings, we had none, but I did feel is soft caress on the back of my hair in the game room, in addition to making seven shots in a row on their beautiful pool table. I believe there was outside help LOL. Not having slept much with the expectation of sounds or sightings we heard nor saw any but definitely are planning a return trip for the amazing experience! This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and I have to say it was AMAZING! I highly recommend this place!

the place seemed very cute from pictures online. i called to inquire about the grant marie room, and my follow up question was to ask about the size of the bed. i called and a lady answered. i asked if the said room was available still for one night being tonight and checking out tomorrow on January 2nd. she said let me ask my husband which made me somewhat hesitant but i figured maybe she just doesn't do many of the bookings. instead of putting the call on hold, i heard her ask a man who i'm assuming would be her husband if they were renting the room out for the night still. she then started to talk to me again and answered with "we are no longer renting out rooms tonight". she then said "but" and hung up the phone quite abruptly in the middle of my sentence, asking if it was because they were booked. very unsettling and for a place that advertises its self with such quaint and kind images and descriptions, it was very disappointing. i would not recommend staying here unless you enjoy staying somewhere where you feel very unwelcome and cold shouldered. read more

Torn between two and three stars, my friend and I booked via the phone 2-3 weeks before the trip and did not receive our email receipt so we called back, the owner said that was strange she definitely sent it, about two nights before the trip she finally got the confirmation email. Their website shows that you can only book rooms on certain days for two night, rather than one but we only wanted one which we eventually found just one available. We arrived at captain grants and entered into a quiet home, there was literally no one inside so we called the owner who came right over, and showed us around the house quickly. I expected some sort of brief history of the home but was never told anything. Initially the home reminded me of my parents home growing up with all the antiques, but captain grants has a stuffy smell and could use a decent cleaning as there were cobwebs throughout the house in the living room as well as the bedroom we chose to stay in, the Adelaide room. The room was so warm we attempted to open a window but there was no screen and it just opened up to another glass. Nothing paranormal happened. A porch light shined into the room all night and we never made it to breakfast because we left unable to stand the heat. It was conveniently located near the casinos. read more

Be careful when booking with this shady establishment. They give no booking confirmations via email unless you make several attempts to receive one. They do not respond to voicemails when you cancel your reservation due to a death, then charge your credit card full value even though you had a groupon. They are too busy to answer their phones and provide adequate customer service. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE OR THEY WILL STEAL YOUR WALLET. read more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. Very quaint old place built by a boat captain in 1754 - and a cemetery out back of the property dating from the 1600s. It has wooden floors that creak which I love, antique furniture, lovely table service for breakfast (how did Carol manage to keep a whole set of antique dishes with no chips?). Owners Ted and Carol are very nice. Our room was the Marie Room on the first floor, looking out onto the patio. We had a four poster canopy bed, private bath, very comfortable. At breakfast the first day there were four couples and we had a nice talk about the ghosts, concluding that two of the couples had experienced ghosts - footsteps in the attic, jiggling the lock on the door, etc. The ghosts are very benign, and my husband and I sadly did not have any ghost experiences ourselves. I would recommend this if you like historical old places with a lot of character, especially if you have an interest in the ghosts. read more

Went to Capt. Grants with some friends for a "Ghosthunt" event. Made a reservation for one about three months before, told the owner it may turn into a reservation for two, but would let them know. Well, it didn't turn into two. When I got there, I noticed that the Ghosthunt paperwork had me down as a party of two. I advised the owner, Carol, that it was just me. She seemed annoyed, but said it was ok and I signed for my non-refundable $100 deposit. When checkout time came, I asked if the bill had been straightened out and wanted to sign my credit card invoice. Oddly enough, Carole said she left my invoice in the other house (but she did bring everyone else's). She told me I'd have to call a guy at the Ghosthunt company for a refund. I never had the opportunity to sign a bill though (shame on me for not demanding it). The name and number she gave me was bogus though, so I had to dispute the charge through my credit card company. Upon notification of the dispute, Carol called me and told me the Ghosthunt company ripped her off and the guy who runs it was "thrown out of England" and she was thinking of suing him. She then offered to give me his credit card number (?). Don't know how far she would've gone with this if I didn't cut her off. As it turns out, I lost my dispute, due to lack of documentation. Ended up paying $498 for a one night stay, ziti for dinner, a ridiculous ghost hunt (although I didn't really expect to see a ghost), and breakfast. The money doesn't bother me, it's just the fact that the owners, who seemed very trustworthy, would not offer to make this right. Very disappointing. read more
