Signed up for the driving class online and it went fine. BUT... Aceable has a policy to automatically subscribe you to their roadside assistance service if you sign up for a class but very quietly. I consider this as fraud to sign someone up for an unrelated service (just because it has to do with cars?) just because you signed up for their class. If you don't catch it on your credit card statement you'll be paying it forever because of how they charge it. It'll follow your credit card account even if you cancel that number and get a new one issued. read more

I had a great experience at ABC Driving School. I am an incredibly nervous person so I had a lot of anxiety about driving, and I have tried taking driving lessons at different schools two different times and I ever felt like I really learned to drive or overcame that anxiety at all and never ended up taking the driving test. I knew I really needed to learn, so I tried one more time here at ABC Driving School; my experience was very much different from when I contacted other schools! First off, the people on the phone were always very kind and accommodating even with my wacky schedule. Hugo was my instructor, and he was so realistic with the advice he gave me about overcoming driving anxiety. I love that the lessons did not only prepare to pass the driving test, but also to become a good driver in general. There was even a lesson about driving on the highway, which is not something covered on the driving test down here but something that is really important for commuting in Austin. I passed the test on my first try after the 6th lesson but I took a few extra lessons before buying a car because I knew I needed more practice and they were super helpful and worthwhile. I went from thinking I would never be able to drive to actually enjoying driving thanks to ABC Driving School, and I highly recommend them for learning how to drive. read more

Went into their CDL-A course blind with no prior knowledge of operating Class A vehicles. Course was structured in a manner that was easy to learn, and the staff strived to see everyone through the 4 week program to pass and become certified. "Scam" know what ur contact and please understand what they are saying. I wanted to be listed as manual cdl and one of the front desk lady's listed I did automatic first then I can "JUST PAY THE DIFFERENCE" fake information latter to find out the price was changed and that's why I couldn't sign up for manual in the first place and they had me wanting to pay another fee for a restriction that I never wanted please read this before attending ABC RANYNA DRIVING SCHOOL !! Also I told the lady in the front office I wanted manual from the beginning. The fee for changing the automatic to manual is 945$ I just talk to Robert rayna and i instead to give meh my refund but was charged for braking the contract which was 250 ! Mr Reyna and Co. are exceptional to interact with. Mr Reyna himself is very thorough. Very informative. And incredibly nice. I took the CDL A course. With Airbrake. The exams at DPS are simple, IF you study the material ABC provides you. I passed all my exams at the DPS in less than a week. I received road lessons and passed the road test two weeks later. Study hard and get your CDL A in less than a month. Thank you Mr Reyna and ABC driving school. Just need to return to get my hazmat and 10 speed training/endorsement. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. TLDR: Good school and instructors; beware of any games they try to play with you. I moved to Austin from NYC/DC in August of 2015 and needed to get my license. I'm in my early 20s and had never gotten my license previously because I never needed to drive. Quickly after I moved here, I realized it was pretty hard to get around without a car. I came across ABC Driving School and chose it since it had the best reviews on Yelp. I did the 4 class road package + test since I already had some practice driving before. The only availability they had for lessons scheduled directly before an available road test was a month from when I called. This was to be expected, given the long wait for driving test appointments. It wasn't ideal that the only time they offer for driving lessons is during the workday, M-F. They don't do weekends or evenings. Luckily, given my flexible work schedule, I was able to make it work. Robert, my instructor, was super great at teaching me the fundamentals and at going over the test route. We practiced in and around the testing site a ton and I felt super confident. During my FIRST lesson, he told me, "If you were to go take the test right now, you'd probably pass." He constantly said I was ready. He was encouraging and down-to-earth, and I was totally feeling ready for the test... ...Then, on the day of the test, while I was waiting at the DPS, I get a call from the school saying, "Your instructor doesn't think you are ready. You need more practice." I was SHOCKED. I confirmed they were talking to the right person. They tried to get me to play into their gimmick and purchase more lessons. I had already taken a day off from work and I was ALREADY at the DPS. I asked to speak to Robert, who told me that he was going to come to the test site and have me practice. He would then decide whether or not I was ready...totally ridiculous and absurd. He had told me multiple times before that I was ready. He let me take the test and I passed. Obviously, I wasn't happy with the latter part of the experience (a previous poster seems to have had a similar experience) but I got my license and have been able to finally live like a normal person in Austin. On another note -- if you are under 25 and need to take the written program/drivers ed before you get your license, check out Aceable. I took the 6 hour driving course for adults here 2 years ago. Back then I had newly moved to the US, never had to drive before and scared to death of driving. I had an amazing female instructor (forgot her name...) I'm so glad I came here for driver's ed. She was patient but firm about how to drive well -- she knew exactly how to handle adults new to the US because of her experience. After just 4.5 hours I was pretty ready to take the driver's test and the extra 1.5 hours were just sort of for review (well I'd already paid for the whole 6 hours in the beginning so I was going to complete the whole 6 hours). For each 1.5 hour driving lesson the driving instructor came to pick me up from home, and at the end of the lesson we'd drive to my work to be dropped off. I was able to take the test for north Austin (parallel parking too) with no problems! Thanks to ABC Driving School I felt ok even after moving to Los Angeles -- freeways, local streets, parallel parking, it's the basics that you learn that help you drive almost everywhere :) read more

Just got my license today and had to post this review - my experience with ABC Driving School and instructor Hugo has been fantastic! I started driving at 25 after arriving in Texas and realising I couldn't rely on public transport anymore. Initially, I went with DriversEd.com and had a terrible experience - different instructors each time, lots of cancellations, rude behaviour, and one instructor even insulted my height and /ability/ to drive, destroying my confidence. Switching to ABC was the best choice I made. Hugo is friendly and makes you feel comfortable. he also does not smother while teaching - if you make mistakes he will ensure you learn from them. Within 2 lessons, I felt comfortable driving, and even going on the highway for the first time was fun instead of nerve-wracking. Hugo's tips are easy and useful. The school is also very flexible - there was a mix-up where the instructor thought I had one more lesson than I did, so I was not taught parking. When I asked about this, they immediately scheduled a follow-up lesson for me without a fuss or asking for fees. I feel like a much better and safer driver than I did before I started, and can confidently say I'm not afraid to drive anymore. read more

If you are looking for a safe, efficient and quick driving school, I suggest you look somewhere else. The ABC driving school on 1st street is so unorganized. I made numerous appointments for my teenager, only to be called the day and sometimes morning before the lesson to be told the appointment had to be canceled, there was no instructor available or asked to move the appointment just because they were trying to schedule another student. A class that started in June has prolonged through the middle of September which is totally unacceptable!!!! This place is unprofessional and there is no customer service. Finally getting around to writing this review three months after getting my license. I moved to Austin from NYC a year and a half ago. no one in New York worries about driving or having a car. I lived there for so long that I never thought about getting or needing a driver's license. but after a year of using the public transportation in Austin, I realized that I had to learn to drive. for real. at the age of 42. getting re-oriented with driving as an adult is very difficult; you don't possess the immortal attitude of a teenager. it's sufficient to say that I was very nervous about this process and I didn't feel that help from my friends would give me sufficient confidence. I took the four-hour driving course from ABC driving school, with Robert as my instructor. he was friendly, patient, and calm - all qualities I needed in a driving instructor in order to feel comfortable. he was very attentive. he really took note of areas where I needed to improve and helped me work on small specific techniques. I paid for one extra hour-long lesson after my four-hour course, just so we could go over everything that would be required on my road test. a month after starting lessons with Robert, I took my driving test at the south Austin DPS and passed on the first try. ten days later, I bought my first car. I'm VERY happy that I decided to go with a professional instructor. it was definitely worth the expense! I wouldn't change a thing. Today I had my last driving lesson. Had a very good experience. This school is more affordable than other schools in the area and I'm very happy with it. My instructor Robert was excellent, he has a very good teaching approach. He doesn't only prepare you for the exam, but gives you practical advice about driving in general. He tackles your progress using a grading sheet and informs you about the weak areas that you need to work on. The focus of improvement during the lessons goes towards those weak areas. I was not a seasoned driver, and after only 4 1.5-hour lessons (residential areas, downtown, highways and parking), I felt so much better about driving and saw myself improving right away. I took the 6 hour driving program and did great. I had already been driving for a tad bit but needed reassurance before I signed up to take my driving test which won't be till December blah. My instructor was Robert Jr, and he is awesome. At first I was a little intimidated because he's young and cute lol, with me only being 22 you can imagine the nervousness. But folks this man is awesome he's very chilled and laid back. the only time I got nervous was when I had to go on the highway. The staff is great, I would talk to them all as I waited on my ride. Because I need drive my frds during trip to Vagas, I decide to get license before Xmas. The schedule for ABC is the most flexible among all. And my coach Hugo is really nice. I don't have any experience on driving before. He is patient and point out the key issues every time. We kindly had some misunderstanding on my final course as he thought I need more practice but I don't have enough time to reserve another day. So I insisted on road test, Hugo came, we practiced several before test, and I made it! I haven't had a class so far but I just called them and they were the most helpful people. As I've moved from abroad they gave me all the instructions related to my permit (even though I already know how to drive) and clear guidelines on what's required by Texas law before taking the test, what's the best schedule for me based on my needs and they were also extremely helpful to identify the schedule that works for me based on my needs.. I'd say they were more helpful than the Texas dps website. I'll definitely take my lessons here. read more

It took me some time to write this as I was afraid of repercussions, but I'm not any longer. I paid out the money for the 6 hour adult driving class and they worked with me on the days I could take the lessons (my days off). I explained then that I had no car to practice on and they told me not to worry. I even told the Instructor. He said "We'll see how it goes." We get to the last day and he runs me through the practice test that the DMV would give me several times and we get back to the office. He says he was surprised I did so well with limited experience. I mention using their car for the test (which is supposed to be an option), but he says call Monday. I call on Tuesday because I had to work OT on Monday from my 3rd shift schedule and just wanted to sleep when I got home. The lady then proceeds to tell me that the Instructor told her I needed more practice before taking the test. I say "What? He told me I was ready. Are you sure you are thinking of the right person?" She describes me and I say "Yes, that's me." She says "He says you need more practice." I say "I want to talk to him." He's "conveniently" not there and says he will call back. Never heard from them. Tried again and nothing. I told her the second day that he NEVER mentioned that Friday about needing practice. She says "Well, I'm sorry. He thinks you're not ready." Oh so he straight up lied to my face so you all can try and get more than $450 bucks out of me? I should have fought it then and got my money back since I wasted 6 hours plus the time it took to get there and home on the bus. If you need adult classes, go elsewhere. read more

I went to ABC Driving School to train for my CDL license. First of all the staff there is great and super helpful, secondly the owner and his wife gave me customer service above and way beyond. I was super impressed with Robert ease in the truck. i guess with 35 years experience he just has all the right moves to make you comfortable and teach you all you need to know to pass your tests with ease. i achieved all endorsements for my CDL and got my license in record time! Once I told others of how fast the whole process was and how easy they were very jealous considering the length of their training schools and the difficulties they had. i fond my experience so gratifying overall i went ahead and switched my insurance over to the business they also co-own. I rarely take the time to write recommendations, maybe a total of 5 in my lifetime. The folks at ABC Driving school not only earned mine, they also have me as word of mouth and also as an insurance customer for life. I highly recommend them to everyone from beginner drivers ed to CDL Training to insurance. Any product they are offering is well worth investing in. read more

I still need some practice because I was not able to practice between lessons but I have learned so much and am very grateful for the lessons I got at ABC Driving school. Called this business 4 times before I finally talked to whoever was in charge. The receptionist is not helpful at all and after waiting 4 hours for a return call I finally talked with someone only to find out it would be 3 weeks before any lessons could be scheduled. This is something that could have been said 4 hours ago instead of me wasting my day waiting for a call that never came.
