Walked through the wine section with Erik as he helped us plan a wine tasting dinner - so very helpful - couldn't have done it without him

We had an extraordinary experience today at ABC... we were looking for a particular white wine when we met Liam. Liam is great sommelier, with knowledge well beyond his years! He is part educator with extraordinary technical knowledge of grape varieties and vintages. He confidently guided us through racks of white wine until we made our selection... a personal favorite of his, and likely ours too. If you're looking for extraordinary sommelier to help you with your purchase, make sure to call ahead to make sure Liam is working that day. I am so glad I went here! After reading the reviews, I was hesitant to try this place, but it was definitely worth the stop. The prices were similar or lower than the "cheap" stores in the Midwest. Good selection of wines, the best in many miles around. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I am staying in the area for 5 weeks, coming from Michigan, and I have signed up to their frequent visitor plan and visited the store 3 times. Each time I purchased 3-4 bottles. The reds have included Rioja, barolo, Shiraz from NZ, and Grenache from Spain. Unfortunately, without exception, I have found all the reds to be cooked, that is, exposed to excessive heat. No one is willing to work here at this location. No enthusiasm at this store at all! We wanted to look at some lighters and the guy barely wanted to show them to us. Even though we bought 2, we knew what we wanted. As far as liquors, same story. If you know what you're looking for, you will have no problem. My husband and i visited ABC at 602 21st St, Vero Beach, FL last night and had the most appalling experience i have ever encountered in customer service. Upon reaching the register, my husband, 36 and I, 30 were carded to purchase 2 bottles of wine. Normal protocol, i get it, but when my husband handed over his government issued Permanent Resident ID card, the woman proceeded to tell us that it wasn't a legal form of ID. He also showed his European ID. Mind you my husband has had his green card for 2 years now and we have NEVER had an issue with it anywhere else because this is a GOVERNMENT ISSED ID. The woman at the register proceeded to tell the both of us that if my husband left the store immediately that she would then sell the wine to just me. By this time she started grasping the wine bottles as if we were some kind of criminals. Confused by the entire transaction we began asking questions like how can this be? My husband uses this LEGAL form of ID for everything, he is a resident of the US and isn't required to carry his passport at all times. It's one thing if your company doesn't recognize this as an ID, but it is legal and besides all of that, the way this woman handled the situation was completely unprofessional and rude. My husband and I have both worked in hospitality and the service industry for over 20+ years combined and there is a way to speak to customers. After we started asking her why after 2 years she is the only person to ever tell us this ID is not valid, she grabbed both bottles and put them under the counter as if we were trying to steal them or something when we were simply asking how this can be? Then she refused to sell me the wine and demanded we both leave the store. I don't know what your company policies are but this woman was willing to "break the law" one time telling my husband to leave and sell it to me, but then when we were asking how she cannot accept this ID she started raising her voice, speaking over the both of us, demanding we leave and then refusing to sell. You clearly have some bigots working for your company and i am absolutely appalled at the way this was handled. I was a loyal customer to this business and I will question the next time I need to go here and will gladly take my business elsewhere and will be sharing this experience with everyone i know. The both of us left the store physically shaken, my husband was extremely upset and felt completely discriminated against and this is not the way you treat someone who pays taxes in this country. read more

I have been a customer of this ABC location for 11 years. Customer service has always been very good and they have stellar wine selections. Unfortunately, today I witnessed a manager speak to one of his employees in such a rude manner that I was embarrassed and felt awful for her. I do not know the employee's name; she has been there for a while and has always been so kind and attentive to the customers. The store was busy, and I was in line waiting my turn for a register. There were three men (one was the manager named Nick) chatting amongst themselves at the square booth at the inner end of the register line. This cashier happened to look down to write something down very quickly. Nick yelled down the line at her and said Hey...are you open?! She quickly said yes, he yells out in front everyone "be more attentive to your customers!" It was so rude and very unprofessional. She looked like her eyes were going to water. I was enraged and called the store immediately from my car, but I was told by the person who answered the phone that Nick was the highest rank there at the time. I didn't feel like it would do any good to speak to him about his personal lack of managerial professionalism, so I am writing this review. If you have an issue with an employee, speak in private, do not degrade them in front of the customers and fellow employees. Have some class Nick. read more

The prices here are unbelievably cheap. I wish I had one of these on Long Island. They asked my 14 year old niece to show ID and when I asked why, said that she might be my "drinking buddy." Utterly bizarre, and completely unacceptable. read more

I'm sorry, but I liked their old location better. People were friendlier and you didn't line up as if you were at a PetCo to check out. The store had more people working there than customers but I still had to ask for help as they were busy talking to each other. Poor selection of craft beer and small quantities. Beautiful building but poorly managed. Employees acted as if they were doing you a favor by talking to you. read more

The staff at Vero's ABC are impersonal and talk down to their customers. Avoid. Large store, but no one greets customers, or guides them, or (crazy!) even wants to ring up your order. It's like they hire only the young and self-concerned. My recent experience in the store left me feeling embarrassed after being scolded for not being at the "right" register. Smh. Best selection in Vero of any kind of alcohol you can think of, as well as cigars, mixers, bitters, snacks and bar supplies. The store is large, bright and easy to navigate. Customer service is excellent. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. An abundance of carts and parking makes shopping here a pleasure. read more

For those who like upscale liquor, this place offers nothing. I have seen better selection of liquors in supermarkets. Furthermore, the staffs in both stores have an attitude--no one there to help and they will give you a healthy dose of disdain when asked. Even the cashiers set a standard for unpleasantness but only if you can interrupt their conversations with their colleagues behind the counter. The good liquors are skimmed off the top of their inventory and supposedly placed in the vault, but that's not true. I have been invited to purchase from the "vault" but only after I spent $1,300 in the store. The vault selection was a joke and a scam just to get you to spend $1,000 bucks on run-of-the-mill beverages to qualify to buy very limited, if available at all, good stuff. I imagine their "special" buddies are the only ones who get the good liquor. Just avoid the place and buy online. read more

I stopped by here late one night before picking my husband up from work to purchase some bottles for our cruise, embarking the next morning. Let me tell you, I will never be back. I was the only customer in the store, along with 2 employees. 1 employee went in a back door and the other was at the register. I went to check out, and HE was blatantly checking ME out. Straight staring at areas of my body other than my face, while speaking to me. He commented about my age, comparing his to mine. Asking what I was doing later, and if "I was okay?" - I guess because I was purchasing several bottles? I finally mentioned that I'm purchasing them for myself and my HUSBAND's trip. He was completely unprofessional and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I wasn't expecting 5-star customer service, but I certainly didn't expect to be harassed. Horrible customer service! When a bottle of Midori broke from bad packaging in the back is my car making a huge mess I called and spoke to the manager Richard Swartz. He said come back in. So I came back in with the bottle and all the green liquor soaked paper towels. Surprised to be told, "too bad but that's on you." They wouldn't replace a $20 bottle to make it right. They could have told me over the phone. I'm going across the street to Publix from now on! read more

I stopped at this store which was beautiful with a girlfriend, I was only buying a non alcoholic drink for myself to take to this friend house, at the counter my friend was teasing me to buy something "harder" she was joking with me as she knows I dont drink, the young counter girl then told my friend to leave the store, it was so uncalled for an unnecessary! My friend left while I finished my transaction and waited at my car i then told the cashier that was so rude and she hurt my friends feelings, but the cashier again was rude saying we don't need that here! For petes sake its a liquor store! If i could give a 0 star i would ive never seen such TERRIBLE customer service and just the mean face of this employee, i have never been treated like this ANYWHERE read more

this place is a joke, they never have what they advertise on sale in stock, what they have listed as available on their web site is never in stock, tried to order online so i could pick up, nope, didn't happen, web site is messed up. Sent several emails to corporate requesting information on a certain vodka brand, no reply. Horrible customer service! go to total wine and more and stock up, better prices and worth the trip! read more
