I have never felt so uncomfortable or threatened in my life. I have spent the weekend trying to process what occurred but I wanted to share my letter I sent to the shop . I recommend avoiding this shop . This is my (Jennifer Shaw) formal written notice ahead of me coming in tomorrow. I am writing to formally state that I did not authorize the removal, replacement, or modification of either catalytic converter on my vehicle. I brought the vehicle to your shop after being referred from North Kia dealership for a catalytic cleaning as discussed. Any work performed beyond what I authorized was not approved by me verbally or in writing. On August 7th when I went to pickup my vehicle I was told that the work was required due to an engine code. However, based on the vehicle's configuration, further diagnostic testing would have been required to properly establish that either catalytic converter had failed before any removal or modification was performed. No such testing was presented to me prior to additional work being done on the vehicle, and performed without my consent. I have also formally filed a consumer complaint with AMVIC regarding this matter: AMVIC Case Number: 26-08-133 Submitted: August 9, 2026 I also learned that your shop is unlicensed (SINCE JAN,2026) and your shop did not abide or enforce AMVIC requirements. I am therefore demanding the immediate release of my vehicle, and return of unauthorized removed parts on Monday, August 10, 2026 while this matter is being reviewed. I was not advised, and did not give authorization of the work that was performed, and I dispute any charges relating to unauthorized services. As part of the complaint and to document the condition of the vehicle prior to the work being performed, please provide copies of all written diagnostic records and test results from August 5, and August 6, 2026. Including, and if performed during the initial assessment: Exhaust back-pressure readings (PSI) Thermal readings before and after the catalytic converters Intake manifold vacuum test results Results of the physical tap and visual inspection Exhaust separation/bypass test results Along with diagnostic codes, scan tool data, photographs, notes, or other documentation relied upon to determine that either catalytic converter had failed. Please preserve all records, photographs, diagnostic data, work orders, technician notes, and removed components relating to my vehicle. I expect my vehicle to be released to me Monday morning, August 10, 2026: The removed parts in the trunk without requiring me to accept or authorize the disputed work. read more

I live in Edmonton. That means every couple months (or weeks) I gotta deal with catalytic converter thefts. It's a plague here. Frankly, we were tired of waiting until some jackass decided to saw off our cats and leave us without. This has happened to too many neighbours. We went to see the folks over at ABC Muffler, and Trevor gave us a bunch of options for our vehicles. It was booked within a couple days, and they sorted us out completely. Now, it's VERY unlikely that any thieves will have the time or the blades to make a mess of our catalytic converters. We're going to ABC for everything for exhaust and towing now. I happen to know a thing or two about cars, so I am rather picky about being taken for a ride when I go to get my old cars serviced. I chose ABC Muffler off Google Maps because it was close. Imagine my surprise when it was also good! I had an old honda that I had just purchased, and it did not come complete with a muffler. I had hoped to just have them tack on a cheap one and get away with less than $150. Mufflers and labour ain't cheap. The day I went, the place was quite busy. They graciously agreed to look at it right away, and even allowed me to scamper down into the pit to have a look at the underside of my new ride. Sure enough, no muffler. And worse, the exhaust pipe from headers to where the muffler ought to be was a rust eaten mess. The guy helping me (I have misplaced his name, tho I am sure he still has it well secured) was able to find a generic muffler for $40, and then advised me about my choices to have them make a new pipe for $160, or have them order one in for $140. I figured it was gonna cost me at least $300 with labour on top of that, but the price came out to $200! That is a phenomenal price for entire exhaust pipe AND muffler AND labour! They did the repairs while I was at work, and I took a cab back to pick my car up after hours. They had no problem leaving the keys in it, the paperwork on my seat, as I had paid beforehand. No upsell, just the facts and choices, and they treated me like I had a brain in my head, and not just some useless girl. Major points in my books. read more

Trevor is a very experienced gentleman with passion for his job. My SUV did not have power and made squeaking noises when reaching to 4000RMP, and I could not drive on highway anymore due to the problem. Visited a transmission shop (my mechanic suspected it's the trans problem) and I was told to come here to check out. I did not make appointment and Trevor told his staff to look into it and then told me the most likely problem was the catalytic converter connected to the back was clogged, and he drew a picture for me of the 3 catalytic converters for this vehicle to indicate where they are and possibly which one had the problem based on his experience. When his staff cut off the suspected converter, he brought it out and showed me the inside of the converter that was completely clogged (see pictures I attached). He then asked his staff to repair for me and he himself took a test drive after the repair. When he came back, he told me the power is back now, and he liked to check the front converter as well to make sure no more issues but his camera had an issue and he asked me to come back again if I feel it still lacks power. ABC was HIGHLY recommended from a previous customer for custom work (in this case a hitch). My expectations have been EXCEEDED in all aspects (customer service, time, cost, quality work and going over and above to find a solution that no one else was able to do). Typically, I only provide feedback via personal compliments when I am satisfied, however I had to take to time to provide feedback online. I spent over $1000 for a hitch and bike rack only to have our newer vehicle ruined prior to use of them (from a different place). Thus, my 12 year old vehicle was up for hitch install begrudgingly because I knew there would be low ground clearance. The initial place I got the hitch installed was time consuming and involved a re-install because they made the error of putting a poor quality and poor looking hitch on. After the error was corrected (at my time and cost) the second hitch worked with the bike rack and provided another 1.5" ground clearance. I drove away with rack in stowed position and it bottomed out while exiting the parking lot (despite driving slow and at an angle). Other options such as a riser adaptor were available but at huge cost and still the bike rack would require and adaptor too. So I spoke with the representative at the Rack Guys" and he suggested ABC Muffler + Hitch shop for CUSTOM work. They answered the phone promptly and friendly, assessed the situation upon arrival, and laid out some options that I didn't even know existed. Trevor is humble and confidence, with top notch creative problem solving skills. I remained in the shop waiting for a while and also got to spend time hearing the interaction among other customers and staff. They made a custom hitch that allows for double the ground clearance, in triple the time and it looks extremely good. His demeanor and work ethic are exceptional which shows through his work. The shop is very busy in the summer hours with muffler and hitch work, however they do everything. This "ma and pa" operation will take care of you and stand by their work. Ladies this is my recommendation for servicing needed hands down. I don't like driving across the city for anything but I will be doing so in the near future when the car needs Trevor to the rescue. read more

What a great referral from Pug City Euro works! I could not have been happier with the honesty and price they gave me to work on my 1991 BMW. Elsewhere that I had looked wanted over $600.00! They worked it out for just over $300.00 for the whole exhaust system. They had me in and looked it over and amazingly enough asked if I could have them service it right then. I asked about a nearby place to hang out and the owners son or part owner even loaned me his car for a short time! Now that is ridiculous service and trust. These guys are really friendly to me and every person came to the shop / on the phone for the time I was waiting for a muffler change. They even put on a plastic seat cover when moving around my car, nothing major but make them feel professional. I did went back to the shop after a few hours because the heat changed the shape of the pipe (which is normal), they fixed in 2 minutes and now it looks fantastic. I checked out another muffler shop first and they wanted to replace my entire exhaust system for $$$. The fellow could not speak English. I checked out social media and found great reviews on ABC Muffler and Hitch just off 50th St. and they DELIVERED! I was expecting to leave my car with them overnight but they had my CRV in the shop within minutes and gave me 2 options for under $130 as all I needed: was a "sleeve" to reconnect the muffler. I was out of the shop within the hour. Great service! Honest people; and customer focused! The ladies at the counter diagnosed the problem over the phone and were bang on! I just got my car back from here and am extremely happy with the service! When it started sounding like a racecar, I took it into Canadian Tire to get it diagnosed. They told me it was the muffler and gasket and the estimate was $480. I called ABC to compare prices and they quoted me half as much, so I put my name on the list and took it in a few days later. The staff was extremely friendly even though the phone was ringing off the hook and they seemed very busy. In the end, the cost was $220 (less than HALF of what Can. Tire was charging) and my car is running nice and quietly! I would highly recommend this place! read more

My work deals with them but I had never actually been there throughout the years, until I had to pick up my own personal vehicle earlier this week. They bandaged up my dieing exhaust , gave me advice and got me on my way as soon as possible. They were done in a timely manner, however we were quoted $100.00 less than we actually paid! Not impressed, could not argue it as they were too busy on the phone the whole time to even process the transaction! A shop guy had to put the payment through! Not happy about the price!!! read more

I highly recommend this shop! The staff are friendly and helpful and they saw my car right away. A minor repair on the muffler was performed and Trevor, the owner, waived the fee entirely! It is true that I needed only a very small part and very little time was required to make the repair, but still I have never walked away from any garage who did not charge me for at least the labour costs. I even offered to give him some money for the labour costs and he still refused to take anything from me. Instead he and his staff just wished me a Merry Christmas. As my tip says this is the only place to buy a hitch in the city as far as I'm concerned. My cargo happens to be horses so I'm super anal about safety. I recently purchased a 5th wheel plate hitch from them. It was a brand new item for them and the market in general. I went to hitch my trailer and to my dismay the teeth wouldn't lock. I was on a deadline to be in Calgary for a certain time that day and the farm is the east edge of Spruce Grove. They gave me info over the phone but nothing worked. They said they would call me back in 10 minutes and they called back in 7 saying the same thing just happened to a hitch in their warehouse when they were playing with it trying to solve my problem. Turns out there were a few defective plates in their shipment so they found me a good one and had someone meet me on the far far west end as fast as was humanly possible. My horses and I were on the road (safely) quickly and made it to Calgary on time and no worse for the wear. Can't say I've ever heard of or experienced such service from any other shop in the city. The last shop I used it would've been days for me to get an appointment, bring the truck in, then the plate would have been sent away for a warranty replacement (ABC assumed this task as their own also & I never heard another word about it) and a few weeks later it would have been sorted out, not so at ABC!! read more
