Things that I don't think I should feel after a health care appointment. It came to the point that as we were leaving a family in front of us were getting suckers and when my daughter politely asked if she could have one, the doctor replied "I'm not sure that's a good idea, it looks like you have way too much sugar already". Red flag #2 was when my daughter was prescribed a new medication and when I called for a refill I was told this practice charges $10 to refill a prescription. On top of the actual cost at the pharmacy. That's an additional $120 a month. I cannot wrap my brain around why they would do this. I decided to go elsewhere.

We've been coming to her practice for the past five years, and every experience has been exceptional. The doctors and medical assistants have always been amazing--they are delightful, attentive, and incredibly friendly. Unfortunately, since the practice moved to the Cedar location, the front office service has significantly gone downhill, specifically regarding the front receptionist (the woman with very short hair). Her behavior has been consistently rude, demeaning, and unprofessional. She has mishandled our scheduling multiple times. Even after calling to confirm, I have arrived to find the appointment times changed, which has caused major delays for my children's care. Her handling of administrative tasks is needlessly complicated and entirely lacking in basic customer service. A few specific instances of concern: -Insurance Handling: I provide my insurance card at every single visit. During our second-to-last visit, she didn't ask for it. The following day, she sent me n email threatening that I would be held entirely financially responsible for the visit if I didn't send it immediately (written in all caps). When I politely replied that I always provide it, she hadn't asked, and that I would send it right after work, she never acknowledged or confirmed receipt of the card. -Vaccine Access & Screening: My children needed required vaccines for middle school. We were told the office would call us when they arrived, but after weeks of hearing nothing, I called to follow up. She immediately told me "no" they didn't have them. She then asked if I pay for my insurance or if we were on Medi-Cal--a question that felt incredibly inappropriate and irrelevant to whether my children deserved care. The moment I stated that I have private/paid insurance, her story changed, and she admitted they did have the vaccines but told me to just wait until our next routine appointment. Despite explaining that they needed them sooner to start the school year, she was entirely inconsiderate and refused to assist. It's frustrating that she makes things so complicated and lacks basic manners and customer service. As someone who also works in the healthcare field, I know how important the front desk is; they are the first impression of the practice. It is deeply disappointing that the excellent care provided by the doctors and medical assistants is being overshadowed by one person's poor attitude. Regrettably, this ongoing lack of care and consideration at the front desk has forced me to decide to take my family elsewhere. I truly hope management re-evaluates this position, as this receptionist is going to cost this wonderful medical team many more loyal patients.

If I'm still worried, he happily takes the extra time to clarify and help. I love that he always provides multiple options and answers for any issue my kids might be having. As a mother who chooses not to vaccinate my children, I am so incredibly grateful that Dr. Ashraf never pressures me or makes me feel guilty about my decisions. He respects my choices as a parent. The wait is never more than 20 mins to be seen and the receptionist and nursing staff is always kind and friendly. Thank you. I hope the volume of the office won't overflow in the future creating long waits. That's when I will take my exit. One recommendation I do have (also a pet peeve of mine) is that the staff refer to me by name. Take the time to call me Mrs. Or Miss whatever my last name is instead of "mom". It'll make me feel more personalized. Also, not everyone who takes their kid there is a mom either. I would always get annoyed when I took my nephew and they'd call me mom.
