My first visit to Pittsboro and I probably would never have stumbled across The Plant and Fair Game…read moreBeverage Company because they're a bit of a ways from the center of town. But they're a member of an RV hospitality program and I decided that this would be way more interesting than a Cracker Barrel parking lot for an overnight. And it is. Fair Game distills their own spirits, they have a great selection of beers and they are masters of the charcuterie game. The tasting room is a pleasant little spot with wifi and power which was great for me on my own. But it's a comfy spot if you're meeting up with friends, with tables inside and out. Plus you have access to the other places in The Plant including a Mexican place across the way that looks tremendous. I stayed in Fair Game, enjoying a local draft beer and then the lovely bartender Desiree mixed a Fair Game Collins for me. A delicious combination of their house-made gin, which she customized for me with less simple syrup so that I could try to stay somewhere close to ketosis. It was a very pleasant evening for sure. So...what's the actual name of this place? Bottles & Cans Beer and Wine Shop or Taps and Social?…read moreJudging by the signage and the receipt, it seems to answer to both. Either way, it delivers exactly what you'd hope for--a great selection of drinks in a relaxed, social setting. After finishing dinner at Shijiri, we had a little over an hour to kill before heading home, so we wandered over here. We decided to grab seats inside rather than on the front patio. The interior is surprisingly spacious, with plenty of seating whether you prefer pulling up to the bar or sinking into one of the comfortable sofas. Our tasting lineup included the refreshing Sangria Slushy, Anderson Valley's Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout, and Komana's Hefe the Hefeweizen. While enjoying our drinks, we spent some time hanging out with Aria, the Bouvier des Flandres, who was incredibly friendly and happily accepted all the attention. She definitely added to the welcoming atmosphere. Before leaving, we couldn't resist browsing the shelves and ended up taking home a build-your-own six-pack featuring beers from 3 Floyds, Edit, Middle James, Two Tides, Grimm, and Anytime Beer Co. The selection is excellent for anyone who enjoys discovering craft beers beyond the usual grocery store offerings. Whether you're looking to enjoy a drink on-site, build a mixed six-pack to take home, or simply relax with friends (or make a new four-legged one), this place checks all the boxes. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area.

Dropped by Bottles & Cans recently and had a good experience…read more Parking was very convenient because Bottles & Cans is part of a strip mall, so no problems there. They had a pretty decent selection of beers available, and I was impressed that you could get pretty much any type of beer as a singleton (versus having to buy a 4 pack or whatever). I did feel like the refrigerated section could have been a bit larger, but they did have a few good choices in there. They had a big selection of beers available on tap, and while I didn't partake this time, I was kind of tempted by the quadrupel :) The bartender was nice and helpful throughout my visit. Overall, if you're in the area, this seems like a nice place to stop and grab a beer. I've seen slightly better selection of beers elsewhere, but I do think you could find something you like here :)

This shop is under new ownership, who is by and large absent…read more I was shocked by how unwelcoming the new management is. This is a neighborhood wine shop. My husband really liked chatting with the last owner, who knew a lot about wine. He had not been since the new owner took over. I convinced him to go for a tasting, and I'm so sorry I dragged him in there on his weekend time. We were the only people tasting at the bar. Despite this the managers showed zero interest in us. It was very awkward. They asked no questions, not even how long we'd been going there. Management actively avoided us. No one wanted to talk beyond shelling out basic wine info on what they were trying to sell at the tasting. When we stepped away from the counter to look around after the tasting, they suddenly gathered with one another behind the counter to talk among themselves, leaving me somewhat confused and left to peruse the shelves alone (we were the only ones there looking at wine too) instead of taking any opportunity to approach us, get to know us, and retain local clients and entice us to want come in more often. All 4 seats were empty at the counter around them. It was a weekend night. Had I felt more hospitality, we might have bought a nice bottle of wine and sat down to talk. Instead we left. My husband just shrugged (he likes Wine Authorities anyhow) but I actually felt somewhat shocked, in all honesty. It's hard to believe they're trying to run a hospitality business. That experience was anything but fun. In fact it was stressful and a disappointing waste of time. If they want to justify their higher prices over other stores, or encourage people to drink on premises, they need much better management. Preferably people who like people. We had every intention of supporting this local business, but won't be returning anytime soon.
