We were interested in signing our daughter up for dance classes and signed up for the trial, which cost $85. It seemed expensive considering most studios allow for one free class to get a sense of the teacher and overall vibe, but the reviews were good so I thought I would give it a try. The class was wayyyyyy too full and we were very disappointed in the instruction. It was too packed for the teacher to engage the kids and was generally chaotic and stressful. the fee included all of the props required for the class, but it was just a bag of dollar store crap - couldn't have been worth more than a few bucks. For $85 they can buy and maintain their own props for the students and keep them at the studio. We were really disappointed and didn't even take our second trial class. read more

Absolutely LOVE this dance school! The best I have been to in LA. Katie is so kind and lovely (and also patient) with the adults who are beginners. Schools in LA can be intimidating but there is none of that here! All are welcome and the atmosphere is friendly and non-judgmental. I have been taking adult ballet and tap classes and love it. Parking has never been an issue for me. If you miss a class you can make one up in another session which is very kind of them also. This review is way overdue! Miss Mary, Miss Amanda and Miss Katie have created one of the most wonderful spaces for dance for kids (and adults) in L.A.. We started here when my kiddo was a toddler and she has now blossomed into the most beautiful and confident dancer. The ladies are so kind and nurturing but they also encourage everyone (kids and parents) be professional and to respect for the art form and have proper etiquette - in class, during photoshoots and at the beautiful shows they work so hard to put on twice a year. You have to walk through homeless encampent and their excrements to arrive this upper level strip mall school. Teacher is miserable and so are the kids never laughing or appearing to have fun. My twin daughters took two classes starting 3:30 made no sense as Kindergarten and most schools end at 3:15 and there was little we could do arrive from St James at Koreatown in fifteen minutes. Unwelcoming and critical attitude we received for being late for a ballet class for 5 year olds who were not planning on becoming professional ballerinas anyway. We were told there was a dance school who was not professional and kids were not instructed well and allowed to come and go as they please so we should check them out instead . And on the opposite end ABCs of dance was a certified ballet school therefore it was akin a martial arts school and out of respect to teacher they could no longer attend to school, because they could not make it on time. First I do not want my kids in a military school I want them to have fun. Well hello !!!we don't want to come back either as your teacher appears a bit too on heavy side to be a professional ballerina and unhappy to be there and last thing I want my toddlers to attend a class where they are unwanted. It was probably foreign names of my children as well an issue the whole affair felt a bit discriminatory and quite disappointing to me. I would not feel safe to send my small kids to any educational facility who doesn't welcome two five year old girls because of their ethnicity. read more

The owner is rude and very unprofessional. During our first recital it was brought to their attention that all of the memoirs, souvenirs for sale were Blond/fair skinned dancers although there are several brown skinned girls patronizing their school. Their response was complacent. The instructors are the owners daughters, not sure if anyone's qualifications/credentials, Nepotism is not always good. The dance studio is grim. Fluorescent lights, dated decor. Definitely not what you'd expect in a city with many performance spaces that allow beautiful natural light. As for management, we were willing to look past appearances in order to support Miss Mary and her daughters in their small business endeavors. However, over time it becomes apparent that they are like Black Swan will their approach to toddler dance. While other studios in Los Angeles make a toddler recital optional, they ended up kicking out daughter out because we had a wedding in June and she could no longer make it. Can you believe that? Over a TODDLER DANCE RECITAL? These women need to lighten up. I wish I had toured all the studios before making our initial decision. I love this studio! It's mostly a kids studio, but I take adult ballet and tap there on weekday evenings. It's such a warm, supportive environment, and the people in my classes are all very kind and awesome... It's a different (better) experience than many other studios I've been to in my life. Our teacher, Katie, is such a lovely human as well, and she has immense passion, skill, knowledge, and empathy. I keep bugging them about offering an adult jazz class, so hopefully / maybe they will add that into the schedule in the future -- though I know their class schedule is very tight right now with the current offerings :) read more

If I can give zero starts I would. Im mot sure what the old ladies name is but I picked up my granddaughter from class on Monday 4/12. The old lady came outside and said I want to speak to you when everyone leaves I can hear my granddaughter crying. I open the door cause they dont allow you inside. the old hag proceeded to tell me for 4 weeks my granddaughter was asking to use the restroom mind you i pick her up and she never once mentioned this. They usually give 2 stickers one for showing up and 1 if they are good. this day she received none. My granddaughter was very upset I looked at her and said dont cry Princess this old miserable old lady says she is not a princess. my granddaughter cries more I picked her walk down the stairs; remove her mask and she vomits. The treatment my granddaughter received was very mean and rude for NO reason and she is a child. I have reported her to business complains and wont stop until they close the school down. read more

I enrolled my 3.5 year old in ABC Dance in August. So far we're very happy with the Little Gems Class (ballet /tap combo). The class size is small which provides an opportunity for everyone to have a turn. The dance teacher Amanda is accommodating and patient with the toddlers and preschoolers. Amanda is also nurturing with shy students, like my little 3 year old. I can tell daughter is enjoying her class, because she is smiling throughout class and sometimes dances the tambourine tap routine at home. In addition, last night she asked, "What is dance teacher doing now?" I took her curiosity as a good sign she is connecting with her teacher and class. read more

Went to the toddler class drop in...it was great...contained a lot of energy burning activities vs. Actual dance technique, but then again, given the age group, it was very age appropriate and fun for both kid and parent. Highly recommend to do if mid morning activity is something you are looking for. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about this family owned studio - my kids have been dancing here since they opened 8 years ago! I find it Warm and Inviting and always clean inside and out. The other reviewer that cites the homeless on the sidewalk needs to realize that this is a city wide issue and has nothing to do with the businesses where they choose to park themselves. Daria is amazing! I took her Cuban ballet class today. She was kind and she was also generous, taking time to help everyone individually. The class was fun and well structured. I have very little experience with ballet and wanted to take a movement class in WeHo. This was perfect. And the other dancers were also very nice. I'm very much a beginner but there were some students who are obviously dancers. I look forward to more classes. read more

I've been taking the Adult Tap class at ABC's of Dance for over 3 years (both virtually and in-person), and I highly recommend any of the adult classes. The teacher (Katie) is supportive and fun, and the other class members are super friendly. Everyone roots for one another with a real sense of comradery and community. I also love how low-key everyone is, no obnoxious stage parents here! She's so passionate, insightful, inspiring, encouraging & the most "patient" instructor with each student to make sure you get the steps. Using her physical & verbal descriptions that are humorous, opens your mind & imagination to release your ability to understand & connect your mind, eyes & feet together. I find myself in a short amount of time, actually connecting the dots & dancing! I've never felt I'm holding up the class b/c I'm challenged with a new step. She makes sure all students get the steps & those that did, she gives them something else to do while someone is learning, so we are all dancing & everyone feels valued, attended to & cared for as if they were the only one in class! Amanda patiently & individually responds to & respects each student's pace & way of receiving instruction... I've gone to many tap classes in LA & Hollywood & the teachers were irritated, shaming, rolling their eyes, if I didn't get the steps after a couple of times, like I was auditioning for Broadway. I felt like the dreaded one & was terrified to ask them to demonstrate 1 more time. The teachers moved onto the next combination & left me in the dust. I was always frustrated. My 2.5 year old daughter loves the parent participation dance class. She even re-enacts it with her barbies.

My daughters have been studying dance at the studio going on 6yrs now. The classes are excellent and the families are great. The staff are like family and they help make LA feel like a small community instead of an alienating metropolis! The children actually learn technique here... not a play space like other studios. I've been looking for a good dance class for my 2-year old and when my friend suggested this school, I was excited cause it was close to me and they seemed super selective - as in I had to wait for a spot to open up. Honestly I was kind of bummed I couldn't do a trial class first. Dancing for 2-year olds in general isn't easy because they get easily distracted. I would say the class was mediocre. Not a lot of variety, same songs and dances every week. Also, they automatically withdraw for the next dance cycle kind of like at the gym, so if you don't want to go anymore you have to make sure not to miss the deadline to call and cancel. Overall I'd say the experience was meh. On the plus, the teacher did seem very nice and friendly and knew how to communicate with kids. If you're looking for something basic, then I'd say this is a good place to take a toddler, but if you're more serious about dance, I'd go somewhere with a stronger curriculum. read more

We've been attending ABC's of Dance for over 2 years and I've watched my daughter grow every week learning ballet with Miss Amanda. If you are looking for a place wherein the teachers are company-level and professionally trained, but who understand how to work with small children in a warm and fun environment, then this studio is for you. I chose this studio, because their program reminded me so much of what I've seen of the children's classes at Houston Ballet academy, especially their approach to teaching and the range of levels they offer. I also loved that the children get to practice choreography twice a year that culminate in a wonderfully produced theater performance show at the Aratani downtown. That my child not only is learning ballet techniques, but also has come to appreciate learning new dances, participate in real costume fittings, dress rehearsals, and a true theater performance experience, affirms that this is a ballet studio above nearly all the rest I could find here in LA. I also appreciate that the staff is very professional and highly organized, which shows through their many years of experience. The staff are very open to communication and feedback from parents, and they really encourage parents to be actively involved in their children's love of dance. read more
