Able repaired my A/C drain and fixed other issues for one reasonable cost. You can't find a better A/C company than Able Mechanical.

I had a 16 year old air conditioning system that of course quit cooling properly once the outside temperature hit 90 degrees. After a little research on the internet and reading reviews of A/C companies I chose to contact a local company and contacted Abel Mechanical Services to come out and diagnose the problem. I hadn't had a previous issue in years but the symptom was my system was low on Freon. I was planning on just adding Freon and hoping it would last through the summer and then I was going to have my total system replaced once it got a little cooler. Abel and his technician Chris arrived the next day after I contacted his company and starting diagnosing my outside unit. The first thing the gauges told us was I was low on Freon which was no surprise. While Abel and I were discussing the age of my unit and me telling Abel that I was considering just adding Freon and making it last a little longer Chris was checking the condenser coil for leaks and taking some readings on the amperage draw of the compressor and the fan motor. Both the compressor and fan were outside of their normal rated draws. No Freon leaks were found in the outside coils. There was no sales pitch made. They told me they could add Freon but could not tell me how long it would last because there was a leak somewhere and how long the Freon would last was unknown because they had not found the leak yet. I made the decision immediately to lean toward replacing my entire heat and cooling system now rather than "rolling the dice" since both the heating and cooling units were 16 years old and based on the compressor and fan out of tolerance amp readings provided by Abel and Chris. There was no sales pitch to sell me a new system. They said it was totally up to me as to whether to repair or to replace my system based on their findings. My common sense told me to replace due to the measurements and age of the system so I was the one to ask Abel for the cost of a total system change out. We agreed on a price for a new system. I really appreciated the relationship I had with Abel and Chris. They were very open to answer any of my questions. I could tell based on our interactions that I wanted to continue to do business with this company and that they were honorable and trustworthy. A couple of days afterward Abel's installation crew, including Abel and Chris arrived early in the morning and in less that 8 hours my old system was removed and my new heat and air conditioning system was in and working. Everything was done in a orderly and professional manner. All the old parts and trash was removed and my property was left as clean as it was when they arrived. We never really received the service we expected from this company. The owner himself, Abel never came but instead sent his minion to come. We have had a leak from our third floor ceiling for 3/4 months now. The guy who showed up, seemed to know what the issue may be and told me the cost. He claimed the ac unit wasn't leveled causing the coil drip to seep through. Ok great, we may have a resolution... he leveled the unit only for it to get worse 10 mins later after he left. When calling/messaging him back, his response was we did the work I don't know why it's still leaking, we can provide you a refund and put it back to how it was prior... ok? This gentleman just didn't care to try to really find out what else the issue could be or have any concern. He was just satisfied with doing the work and never really dug deep which you would expect from a reputable company or someone who truly cared. I contacted the owner Abel again, and not only did he himself not try to really rectify what the issue was but sent another "installer" our way. So now we have two guys coming back.. they adjusted the unit or so they claim and did something again and promised that the issue was resolved. Great. This was 5/21/24. Exactly a month later on 6/21 we have the exact same issue when contacting the employee and the owner I get zero response from them. Abel knows his trade, is honest, will educate and explain what's going on, and help you understand your options. Although he is a small owned business and does it all himself, Abel is easy to reach, has great follow up, and competitive pricing. Called to schedule a visit for an estimate on dryer vent cleaning. Abel answered the phone so there was no phone tag, he was able to tell me the cost right then and there on the phone and was even able to stop by that afternoon to take care of it. He cleaned out the dryer vent from inside dryer connection to the ceiling to the but since it started raining and he couldn't get to the roof vent safely, he came back a few days later when the rain stopped to clean the vent that is on the roof and had significant visible buildup. It was spic and span when Abel was done in less than 10 minutes! While he was here, I also asked him to inspect my air vents to see if there was a need for cleaning--he didn't just automatically say yes. He took his time inspecting the air ducts and took pics to show me and explain what the situation was and what my options are. The guy is busy and booked solid because he does great work and I s honest and punctual and when he says he will be there but he also makes time for smaller jobs if it is at all possible. My review is far from 5 Star. I was referred to this company and since my previous a/c company had retired I gave them a try. All 3 of my systems appeared to be working fine but I pay to have them checked out before the heat of the summer. I called and spoke to the owner who sent Brian out the same day. I paid $393 for 3 units to be serviced. My home is 10.5 years old. Brian seemed very professional and went into the attic first and then went outside to clean the coils and check capacitor and pressures. He told me the capacitor on the first unit was barely within range (41.1 out of 45) and it would probably go out sometime this summer. It was going to be $300 for a new one. I mentioned I had a new capacitor in the garage so I went to get it along with my gauge (which was the newer version of Brian's gauge). I asked him to check my existing capacitor with my gauge and it read 44. We checked both gauges on the brand new capacitor and again he was 41 and my gauge read 44. He didn't seem very concerned about this. I'd have been wondering who I told to replace their capacitor in the past month and possibly given them wrong information. He didn't seem guilty acting at all. Next he went into the attic and within 10 minutes is calling me up to see my air handler fan was pulling too much energy and not always starting right away. It had cooled fine before I called. I asked him to get me an estimate on a new fan motor and it was $3040. I now had to decide if I was spending $3040 on a 10 year old Trane. My radar was also up and working strong. I admitted I was in my late 60's and had never had to replace that motor before so didn't know what price to expect. I decided to call a neighbor that had bragged on his a/c guy before and over the phone Andy suggested OEM motor might be $600-$1000 installed. Brian finished my PM without finding any more issues. I called Abel, the owner I assumed, that afternoon and questioned the price of the replacement motor and he wondered himself why it was so expensive so he called the supplier and came dow to $1304 on the motor. I had Andy, the new tech, replace it the next day for $820 and it was also an OEM Trane motor. I had originally agreed to an annual contract with Abel Mechanical to do this service on a/c and furnace and priority calls but after the two issues I decided to just pay for the summer service and stay with Andy as my new A/C tech. I wish Brian or the owner had said they would look into the capacitors they'd replaced based on Brian's faulty gauge prior to my call. Brian had never seen a homeowner pull out his own gauge before he'd told me. Then the price dropping more than $2000 on the motor replacement was just too much. I don't write many reviews and they are usually for outstanding service. I just needed for customers to know what happened to me. read more
