I've never written a review about an auto repair shop but this experience was exceptional so I had to share. My 2009 Honda Civic suddenly popped a Check Engine light and wouldn't shift out of 3rd gear. I thought "oh great, new transmission time and probably a couple grand". Which in reality probably means a new car because this car isn't even worth a couple grand. So I run my car to our normal repair shop but they said they weren't able to work on transmissions. After calling two other shops who said they couldn't get me in for another few days, I came across Abercrombie. Gave them a call on a Friday, mid-morning, and was told, "Bring it right in, we'll have it done today". So I bring the car in and I spoke to Russell, a very friendly guy, who gave me good news, that it likely wasn't the transmission itself but a clutch pressure switch. Russell also gave me an estimate of the repair cost and assured me they'd have it done today. A few hours later, I receive a call from Russell, telling me they were unable to order the part because the Honda delivery drivers were out on their routes already. So, the shop owner drove his own vehicle over to the Honda dealership to get the part to make sure they'd have my car done when they promised. Now THAT is going above and beyond, wow. I came and got the car and it's all fixed up and working. And the price was exactly what Russell had quoted me when I first called in. This is truly exceptional service, the way business ought to be done. I'm really grateful to Abercrombie for getting us back on the road and being so polite and professional. With that one experience, they've made me a customer for life and I will highly recommend them to anyone who needs transmission work. read more

I've had two clutch replacements done on my car from this shop in the last 10 years, and my family has used them for other repairs. Excellent service and the guys there are more than helpful and friendly. They went out of there way to help me find parts that fit my car when the manufacturer stopped making one of the parts we needed. read more

Not sure what happened to my first review, so we'll play catch up. The transmission on my 2011 gmc sierra went bad, would not shift. I received quotes from 3200.00 to 5500.00 for repairs. I was referred to Abercrombie Transmission by my service shop. I made the appointment and was greeted by Gary who turned me over to chuck. They sounded like they knew their stuff, so i left truck with them. Three days later chuck called said transmission was done, a complete rebuild, all new parts , etc. I picked up the truck and made it almost 10 miles before all went bad. All the dash lights started coming on, warning lights, gauges and tones, scared the heck out of me. My first thoughts was what a shyster. My truck had problems it had never experienced. I stopped the truck and called chuck. He couldn't believe it was happening. I was almost home and it was late so i told him I would have it back to the shop first thing in morning. Next Morning....the transmission is not shifting, went into some type of limp mode, drove it back to shop in limp mode. I was assured it was something simple and would be corrected the same day. NOW COMES THE GOOD PART....a loose wire was found on a harness, a new harness got installed. They found a faulty oil sensor and pressure switch. (not transmission related), They ordered OEM parts from GM and replaced all those parts, all at no charge. Chuck and Gary apologized for the inconvenience and said if anymore problems let them know. Well its been a year and 12,000 miles, truck has ran great,, transmission has performed flawlessly. I have not had a single issue.I will be taking truck in for its annual service next week. I will let you know how it goes. BUT, based on the way these guys stood behind their work, repaired items which happened to be of coincidence and not their fault. I expect a very favorable follow up. If you have transmission troubles and need it repaired right, bring it to Abercrombie transmission,, not the prettiest shop, but definitely the best. read more

This shop is top of the line. I have done business with them for over two decades and they have not let me down. They are honest, reasonable, reliable, quick, patient and friendly. They are upfront with costs and wont sell you what you don't need. Don't hesitate to bring your vehicle to get the transmission fluids changed before it is too late, but God forbid your transmission goes out this is definitely the place to bring it too. read more

Really happy with the work I had done here. The transmission on my 06 Nissan Frontier went out at about 135000 miles. Gary, Chuck and the guys took great care of my truck. They were able to find the root cause if my problem vs just rebuild it. This did take an extra day but totally worth it. I feel better knowing the problem is truly fixed and the newly rebuilt transmission shifts like butter. I will go back for all my work. read more

I brought my car in to have the front bumper replaced, and was **never told** it would cost an additional \$1,500-\$2,000 to have it painted. I was in constant contact with Juan (owner's son), and I totally feel as if he took advantage of me. When I arrived to pick my car up and saw that UGLY bumper, I was floored! And oh, he was VERY apologetic for "not telling me" the bumper came primed AFTER I'd already paid them \$1,100, but made zero effort, ZERO attempt to make it right and retain my business. He had the nerve to say out of his mouth, "Ma'am, we wanted to do our best to save you money and get your back to you as soon as possible." What??!! I am no dummy. I know what primed means. I know that many exterior car part replacements come primed, which is why I texted Juan while they still had my car to request a quote to replace my passenger-side mirror and SPECIFICALLY asked for a bottom line that includes the cost to paint it which, by the way, was a ridiculous amount! He actually tried to tell me it was that expensive because they have to 'program' it. Goodbye! What hurts even more is that I truly believe I was treated differently -- and unfairly -- because I came in alone as a woman. I had taken my car here once before in 2024, but that time my ex-husband was with me. The difference was night and day: the communication was clear, the pricing was fair, and I felt respected. This time, I felt dismissed and misled, like I wasn't taken seriously or worthy of the same transparency. No one should be made to feel like they're being taken advantage of because of their gender. I trusted this shop, and now I feel completely betrayed. Ladies, beware. Spend your hard-earned money at an auto shop that sees you, respects you, and won't prey on your ignorance or your wallet. The lead mechanic/owner is very good at fixing what immediately needs to be fixed and outlining what has more time before it needs to be addressed. This helps me managing repairs over time instead of being hit with an astronomical bill. Most shops try to get you for every bit of work they can get in while they have your attention. J & C is not in the business of fixing every item that needs repair on your car if there is life on item they will make you aware and let you determine if you want to move forward. When I went there and asked for a manager or the owner, the employee proceeded to tell me " we're all in charge so just talk to me" I stay at the promise about the transmission that they had just installed a few weeks prior to the day, I was there the vehicle has not been driven from the second I open the hood and looked under the vehicle I could point out so many various things that was wrong on top of that The transmission leaking do not take your vehicle to them horrible work they will cause someone their life with the horrible work, God forbid The response from the employee, "we're all in charge so just talk to me," is also unprofessional and unhelpful. As a customer, you have the right to speak with a manager or owner to express your concerns and seek a resolution. I will be reaching out to our Attorney General's office and local consumer protection agency.

I purchased the parts and brought them to them. one was a $400 computer I had purchased that was programmed to my car by vin number. my car was there for 8 months and they never called me when it was done, they told a third party. I picked it up and the bill was almost $4,000 and they charged me for the parts that I supplied to them plus they charged me to program the computer twice. As I pulled into my driveway, the car died and I had to coast down the hill. the car wouldn't start again and the computer showed an oxygen sensor was bad, but they charged me for them. I called them back and talked to Clark, he sent a rollback to pick it up. three weeks later, again they told a third party that it was ready. I picked it up and this time they added parts that they got from a junkyard and told me they couldn't use them. I drove home again, this time I got it parked and it died. it wouldn't start back up. I called them back and they blew me off.

But they charged me a lot of money! This place is not trustworthy and if you have a high-end car, they will charge you based on that high-end car and not fix the problem. I am not sure what the problem is with these people (maybe they don't like certain people) but something is suspicious about them. I contend that they didn't switch out the parts and just charged me for that issue because you will have the same problem. You can take your chances with them but I would look into another place to avoid the risk. I am not sitting here and the problem has gotten worse. Although I called to complain yet again, they were comfortable with me just contacting the authorities to try to resolve the issue. Make up your mind about using them, but in my opinion, I wouldn't. "They won" in my case, but caveat emptor (Let the buyer beware). Your money is hard-earned so go to someone you trust. Or, just take your chances!

The transmission went out in my wife's car, so we had it towed to the dealership that it was purchased from because it was supposed to still be under warranty. After the dealership let it sit for two weeks, they told her that the warranty had just expired, and they were going to charge $6000+ to get it back on the road. We called Abercrombie and they had the car picked up that same day and brought to them. In a little more than three days they had the work completed and my wife was back driving it. They did the job cheaper, and I am one hundred percent confident, better than the dealership would have. They also gave us a better warranty than we wound up getting from the dealership. Everyone my wife dealt with at Abercrombie Transmission were all top notch. I will definitely use them again in the future if the need arises and I would highly recommend Abercrombie Transmission to anyone in the vicinity of Douglasville that is in need of any transmission work.on read more

After bringing my truck to a different shop and leaving there with more problems that I started with, I called Abercrombie. I spoke to Tim and explained the problems I was experiencing and that the other shop said I needed a new transmission or mine had to be rebuilt. Tim recommended that I check a couple things out first and expressed that my symptoms did not sound like a bad transmission. After following Tim's instructions, Abercrombie saved me a ton of money and my problems were a direct result of what I had just paid the other shop to repair. I honestly didn't know that customer service like this still existed. They could have told me to bring my truck in and charged me a bunch of money to repair it, but instead, they helped me save money. Amazing!!! read more

If you're reading this review, it's possible you were like me and are scrolling and clicking around, trying to find someone to handle your transmission problems. I'm happy to say that your search is over. THIS is where you should take your vehicle. Here's my experience with Abercrombie in a nutshell: Care, honesty, and expertise. I felt like as a customer, I came first. Sure, it took a while to fall into the schedule, but I can only imagine that's because they're so in-demand. And for very good reason! We live in Temple, and honestly I think there are some transmission shops closer by. I cannot imagine going ANYWHERE else besides Abercrombie after my experience, though. I'm Aaron Guyton and I would like to say that this business, the people are very honest they are loyal to their craft extremely knowledgeable about makes and models of transmissions, they are geared to build a great customer relationship. I am extremely impressed honestly .I don't think there's enough to rate this business. I know you have five stars but it needs to be an additional five. I was referred by my mechanic, my first thought I was skeptical thinking they were going to take advantage because I am a woman, boy was I wrong, they called me everyday to update me on the progress of my transmission, everything was explained to me. I got my car back after about 5 days or less and I am impressed, the professionalism of the staff is great, the quality of work was excellent, now I hope not to go through this ordeal again, but if I do or know anyone who needs transmission work I would definitely recommend them. The absolute BEST service I've received here in Douglasville. Tim is the most HONEST mechanic I've ever had work on my car. Other mechanics would have charged me for a new transmission but Tim was honest enough to fix the problem and keep those expenses as low as possible. Saved us so much money! Have been going for many years and appreciate the genuineness displayed by Darren.He has had some really good employees also; Chris comes to mind. Not only does he service vehicles with a smile, but he also takes the time to point out any discrepancies and whether it needs to be addressed immediately. I have referred countless people to him because of these qualities. Writing today because Darren was extremely helpful again and my vehicle wasn't even serviced. Dealing with an issue with my tires that involved 2 replacements. I knew Fontaine's had not dealt with tires in the past, but was worth a call. After speaking with Darren I called a few tires places. They didn't have my size tire, but assured me that the difference for ones in stock was minimal. Called Darren back as a neutral party who I trusted. He assured me that the difference would throw my balance off enough to cause a check engine light issue. Decided to wait a day for correct size tires and will get my oil changed at Fontaine's while in vicinity

I was just quoted $65 for a repair that less than a MILE away was over ...$300!!!! Where has this shop been all my life. There should be a Geico commercial for this shop..., tag line: ..." I just save a bunch of money by switching my mechanic to Fontaine's".... Im telling you, this guy could have planned my wedding I tell ya. Don't let the location fool you. Looks a little sceptical, but I'm telling ya, good service, great prices and good customer service...Fontaine's for Life.
