I had been to countless mechanics (and dealerships *shudder*) in the Atlanta area before I came across D.O.G. Auto a couple years ago, and now I refuse to go anywhere else. The first time I brought my car in was for my check engine light. Other shops had tried to diagnose and fix the issue, but multiple repairs and oodles of money later, they still couldn't figure out what was causing the light to stay on. I brought my car to Blandon at D.O.G. Auto, and he did tons of checks to diagnose the problem and finally realized that the problem HAD been fixed earlier... but one of the shops had put the vacuum lines back on incorrectly after the repair. Instead of doing a bunch more repairs, Blandon meticulously and logically looked at all the possible causes to diagnose the issue. And he didn't even charge me at the end of it all. Since then, I've gone to D.O.G. Auto for all my regular car maintenance, and I'll go there any time there's anything wrong with my car. Last night, my car was smoking and leaking fluid. I called D.O.G. Auto this morning, and Blandon said he could check it really quickly, even though he was all booked up for the day. It took him only a few minutes to see that I needed a new radiator. He said he'd fit me in and I could pick up the car today. I brought it in around 10:30 am and was back home with the repair complete before 2:00 pm. I would bring my car to D.O.G. Auto even if I lived OTP. Blandon is the most honest, meticulous, knowledgeable, and efficient mechanic I've ever been to. He doesn't do work that's unnecessary, he doesn't try to screw you over on prices, and he actually explains why he's doing what he's doing. That's probably why his business seems to be thriving, and has been for years, despite being in the middle of Midtown and not easily visible from the road (it's attached to the Shell gas station, and if you blink, you'll miss it). I'm so grateful for D.O.G. Automotive in Midtown! I was nervous about going to a car mechanic as a young woman who has always had her dad there to repair it and knows nothing about cars. Blandon was so transparent and friendly, and also went out of the way to explain what he was doing / show me parts so I had a better understanding of what was going on and what exactly he was fixing. He never tried to convince me I needed any other repairs or up sell me, like other shops will do. I have an older Acura and the rear window regulator and motor were broken, so my window was stuck open. I called a couple times before going in just to check that D.O.G. could service the issue. Even though Blandon was busy, he did everything he could to fit me in since it was rainy and he was sorry I was driving with my window down. When I arrived, he was able to have me in and out in just about an hour which I really appreciated. I had expected to have to wait at least a day, because other mechanics in the area kept telling me they didn't have parts or couldn't service my particular make/model (without even asking the problem). I moved to Atlanta a couple of months ago and was nervous to look for a mechanic when my front tires started making a high-pitched metallic grinding noise. I googled "mom and pop mechanics Atlanta" and D.O.G. Automotive was towards the top of the list that appeared and they had great reviews. I called, left a voicemail, and they returned my call within an hour or so. Due to the issue (needed new brake pads) Blandon offered to squeeze me into the busy schedule. When I arrived, he explained everything to me from the process of what he would be doing, to the pricing; the turnaround time was quick, to boot. Frankly, I chose the place because it's close to where I live, and I could walk there if I have to leave my car. But I could not be more pleased! It is wonderful service, and I trust them. I'm going to continue the 5 star trend, because though they are small, it's mighty. I was in a pinch, failed alternator and failing belt (just my luck)! I called Tuesday and asked if I could have my car towed over Friday morning and was given the go ahead. Blandon, retired military and standup guy, fit me in and was done in about three hours. The service was impeccable, he checked and filled my tires as a courtesy...EVEN considered the cold weather and made sure to fill them on the high side for deflation during the winter months. I have all the good feels for this place. My only recommendation is to schedule ahead if you can. It's one garage and four parking spots, but the man is outstanding and prices I felt were on point. My 2001 Yukon (416,000 miles) was running rough and occasionally stalling. Blandon immediately diagnosed the problem as a bad throttle body. D.O.G Automotive did me a MAJOR SOLID, 2/28/17!! Blandon saved the day and hooked me up! He didn't have to, but he went out of his way to take care of me and my car. I hit a curb at just the perfect spot to throw a nice gash into my tire, next to the rim. Too precarious to patch. Needed a new tire. [Luckily, I didn't need a new rim, too] And this was late in the afternoon. That time, late in the afternoon when no one would ever fault you for saying, 'it's too late, come back tomorrow! I'm closing up shop for the night'. But Blandon recognized that I needed some help or I was car-less and screwed until the next day if I didn't get a new tire on my right-rear tire. Blandon saved the day!! Got me the right tire for my ride...at an incredible price. He didn't have to do that, but he understands that word of mouth goes a long way with small business owners. And D.O.G Automotive is in a part of town where there aren't ANY other options. He could've charged whatever he wanted being the only garage in Midtown for miles! But he gave me an amazing deal. On Saturday December 26, 2015 at 7:00pm, our daughter, son-in-law and grandbaby were traveling back home to Asheville, NC. Their car began over heating and they pulled off the interstate to assess the trouble. As it turns out, the water pump had failed and water/ coolant gushed out. Fortunately, the location where they pulled over had a valet in the parking lot. The valet was a huge help and through a series of phone calls was able to get in touch with the owner of D.O.G. Automotive. The owner, Blandon Johnson, who had family visiting from out of town, not only advised that he could fix the water pump, but he even dropped everything he was doing and came to the scene, evaluated the vehicle, picked up the needed parts, repaired the vehicle and in a little over 2 hours, our kids were back on the road. The kindness Mr. Johnson showed our family is a true testament to the exceptional service you can expect if you happen to be in downtown Atlanta and need your car repaired.
