Unbelievably relaxing in the outdoor garden even on an actual winter rainy and windy day in paradise. You can hear actual birds talking not just on a recording. Nothing like it. The girls checking you in are very nice. They show you your locker and then you get changed for your service. Rie was my therapist and she used long and slow massage techniques with the perfect amount of medium pressure. She made sure I was comfortable. She was amazing. After I was done I didn't a little time in the hot tub which is my only complaint because it could be just a tad bit hotter. The women's locker room has everything you need to get ready. The spa is tucked away on the lower level of the hotel and the whole experience felt like something out of White Lotus. It was peaceful dreamy and surrounded by the sounds of nature. First time in Hawaii and also first time at a spa! A small group of girl friends and I booked for around 11am on a Saturday. Most of us went for the Royal combination which includes a 50 minute Lomi Lomi massage and a 50 minute facial. While checking in you can circle areas of the body you'd like them to focus on as well as mention what specific skin type you have and any concerns. They will tailor the facial to you! Locker rooms were very clean. They provide robes and slippers. The sink area also has combs, facial wash, lotion, bottled water, etc. There is a small seating area with magazines. They have a comments box to the left of the sinks. The day we arrived the steam room was down. But they had what looks like a hot tub/spa. So you may want to consider bringing a swim suit to use those facilities. I left my massage preferences as medium pressure and default. I figured I would let the expert see where I was tense and focus on it as needed. The Lomi Lomi massage came with a gentle foot scrub. You also get your choice of lotion for the massage. When reconvening with my friends we all had different facial experiences (tailored to our need. One girl had her pore extracted, another said it felt like at some point they shaved her face.) My therapist was Masayo. She was great! She was excellent at communicating and checking in to make sure the pressure was okay for me etc. In some cases the massage therapist and the esthetician are different people. The setting is gorgeous! You can hear the birds chirping. It is very relaxing. I didn't hear people milling around. It felt like paradise. It can get a bit warm under the blankets but the fans help. The therapist also offers cold water. All of my friends felt like they fell asleep at some point. The massage was that relaxing. After taxes and tip the Royal combination came out to just under $450 per person. I'm very happy with my experience and would recommend it as a splurge treat yourself gift. read more

Hubby booked us a couple massage to help start our vacation on a relaxing note. Abhasa touts that it is the only spa in Honolulu that offers spa treatments in a serene tropical garden setting. It really does feel like a little slice of paradise in the middle of busy Waikiki! While you're face down for massages so you can't really see much, the sounds were lovely - the birds were chirping happily and for the most part, the sounds of cars and people were muffled. It was also really soothing to hear the rain coming and going. They had three different scents of body creams/oil to pick from: rosemary, coconut and lavender. All were really subtle and smelled great. I opted for coconut because why not. My masseuse was great! My husband felt pretty sore for a couple days after his deep tissue massage but I get sports massages regularly so firm pressure is no problem for me! They definitely ask so don't be shy to tell them what works best for you. The ladies lounge space is pretty underwhelming. Small out of order pool (wish it were a jacuzzi!) and a small steam room that needs 10 minutes every single time you want to use it. All in, we paid about $600 for our 80min couples massage. Definitely really premium but competitively priced for the area and worth it for 80minutes of deep relaxation (I even fell asleep for a bit!) FYIs: * this is in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Very disappointed! I loved spas and good massages, but this spa has neither one. It's very dated, an old spa which needs major renovation. Even the shower curtains are from the old age! My massage reservation was for Lomi lomi which I have had before many times in Hawaii and other cities and always loved the strong and long strokes. This was less than a Swedish massage. Awful experience , after the massage finished I didn't even notice I had a massage. I booked a deep tissue massage. Normally, I have to ask the masseuse to go deeper, but not this time! I even asked her to ease up a bit. I had indicated that I wanted her to focus on my shoulders, feet, and hands. My shoulders were very tight, so she spent a majority of her time there. I was a little disappointed that the foot and hand massages seemed to be cut short due to the time taken on my shoulders, but overall the massage was good. The outdoor setting was nice- I didn't mind the sounds coming from the luau next door or the distant, joyful screams of the kids at the beach. The steam room takes 10 minutes to heat up after you press the power button, and it smelled like mold, so I took a hard pass on it. The hot tub was lukewarm. The people were helpful and friendly but I will probably try another spa if I come back to Waikiki. read more

This is the Spa at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. It is the only place to get an outdoor massage in a cabana on Oahu (so they bill it as). It's not cheap but it's not too expensive. It is super relaxing and the traditional Hawaiian massage was great after getting beat up from my surfing lessons. The outdoor experience here is enough to justify the price for a special treat on a vacation. Some services are still closed due to the pandemic (no steam room in operation nor showers)...so call ahead if that's what you're going for. read more

Sent my wife and my sister for massage and facial. When I made the reservation, it was recommended to try the outside area for more ambiance. Turns out being outside was noisy and not relaxing, but when noise was down, it was nice to hear the birds I am told. Here why O STARS. The massage technicians insinuated they got very little of the 20% tip and had to share it with others. My wife felt bad for them and gave another $50 dollars for the women. Turns out the lady's were not quite telling the whole truth. They get 18% percent of the tip. The other 2% goes to office who helps reserve and clean. When I brought this up to hotel management, at 1st the response was they are a sub-contractor, and they don't make the decisions on the spa. A week later after the hotel did make a review of the situatation, they said Spa management would discuss this with the lady's. So that was it, thanks for staying at our hotel. This review is for the amazing Aoi, the best hair stylist in Waikiki! I attend a conference every year at the Sheraton, and get my hair beautifully blown out by Aoi every time I'm in town. She always remembers me and greets me warmly like a good friend. Getting your hair blown out with Aoi is a relaxing experience. She does such a thorough shampoo and scalp, neck and shoulder massage. You'll feel relaxed and rejuvenated with fabulous hair. If you need your hair done while you're in Waikiki, I can't recommend Aoi enough. I had a massage here Shiatsu on Wednesday and it was good and then we had a couples massager yesterday per Jared the front desk - I kept repeating I need deep pressure and he recommended Keiko (I think that is how you spell it ) and yesterday me and my bf got our massages in the outside room at 4:30 - reminder they have a concert that starts at 5pm so you have hula and a big concert going at the same time - no warning. We did a deep tissue message here for 80 minutes using lavender oil; however, it was an average spa experience. This spa is located in Rogal Hawaiian hotel. If you are staying at Royal Hawaiian or it's sister property Sheraton Waikiki next door, you can charge the spa services as room charge. If you check-in on Yelp, you can get 15% as of Nov and Dec 2021. There's no shower, jacuzzi, sauna nor any other services included because it's all closed at least for now due to covid. I think no shower nor jacuzzi services is huge disadvantages for this spa. I had to shower in advance in our hotel room before heading there. The price is more adorable with the 15% off. The spa front desk area was quite old and properly needs some renovation too. If you are looking for jacuzzi and lounge services, try Moana Lani Spa (also located in a bonvoy property). We did the message during thanksgiving week in 2021 here. They automatically assigned us in the outdoor couple message tent for me and my husband. My therapist was a lady, but her technique was not good as what I experienced in other spa places. I had to ask her to add more pressure for my deep tissue message. I could that feel she tried her best, but i just didn't experience the level of comfort of having deep tissue message in other places. We did our message at 4PM, and there were children events happening in the garden maybe around 4:30PM or 5PM. There's people singing for 15 minutes, and it was too loud that ruined my mind that was trying to get some peace with the holidays. Overall, an okay experience. There's also a lounge indoors with showers, lockers, steam room, and jacuzzi. My therapist was Maureen and I had the 50 minute abhasa Harmony (50 min $150 / 80 min $210). Kamaaina get a 15% discount! Woohoo! The abhasa harmony is a Hawaiian inspired Lomi Lomi massage infused with Japanese Shiatsu and pressure is applied to tsu-bo points along the meridian of your body followed by a rhythmic Lomi Lomi. The shiatsu was new to me so it took a little getting used to, but I loved the entire experience. I asked her to spend more time on my back and she checked with me if the pressure was okay. Having the massage outdoors also added to the relaxing experience. The cabanas are located in a garden setting in the Royal Hawaiian's Royal Grove Courtyard. You could opt for a massage indoors, but why would you want to? There's nothing else like it in Waikiki. read more

Got this as an add-on gift from the No1DP for three decades of existence knowing that we would be staying at the Royal Hawaiian for our one week Oahu trip. I got my day started by getting two services here: 80 minute abhasa harmony massage followed by a 50 minute lomi pohaku facial. LOCATION: Royal Grove Courtyard of the Royal Hawaiian. From the lobby go downstairs and follow the signs to the entrance. Be at least 10 minutes early to your appointment to have time to fill out forms and get and orientation to the spa grounds. Form is a standard questionnaire. Typical questions included the amount of pressure, areas to focus and avoid, any pre-existing conditions, and if you're getting any facials if extractions are requested. The spa grounds is average. There are lockers with robes and slippers inside and several changing rooms. There's a jacuzzi available but it's small and can only fit ~3 people max. There's a waiting area that lets people take advantage of the views of the courtyard. Guava juice and lemonade are included, which were very refreshing and delicious. NOTE: Your fees include spa usage BUT this does not include in-out privileges for the day. Once you are out you can't come back to use the spa. All massage/facials are done outside in private cabanas. It gives your experience a bit more intimacy for being outdoors. For massages you are given a choice of lavender, rosemary and kukui coconut scents. Note that they are on the strong side - I chose lavender as it was the most refreshing scent. Massage chairs are standard. abhasa harmony: A Royal Hawaiian exclusive that combines shiatsu with lomi-lomi. It's a hybrid of a Swedish and a deep tissue. It loosened my upper back quite a bit, but what I was most impressed with was how it took away my neck tension (microscopes will do this to you) and how I didn't experience flaring in my neck for over a month. lomi pohaku: From the description it was a lomi lomi/facial hybrid. I got more of a massage than a facial with just the basic facial components performed. Though extractions were requested I didn't get too much extraction work done. My face did feel less oily and more hydrated. These two services were a bit more than $300. Though all hotel spas are expensive I liked this experience better than my massage experience in Vegas and that was with my preferred deep tissue. A good splurge to people staying at the Royal Hawaiian if they can afford it. read more

To my surprise, this spa is quite expensive for the value that I have received. Some of their receptionists don't speak English well. It was very difficult for me to make changes to my appointment because they do not know whats going on and I asked about specials, they seem clueless until the manager came over to explain the specials. As for spa facilities, it is sure lacking. They do not offer you drinks before treatment, and after the treatment, you got a cup of water, that is all. Facilities were lacking too. Tiny steam room fits 2, and very small changing area with two showers and not to mention that the towels often run out in the men's locker area. Can't they just provide more showers there just like other spas? For the treatment itself is decent, I picked the signature massage but I do not notice any significant difference between lomi lomi and the regular massage that I received. You also get to choose to have your treatment inside the building our outside in the tent. I do not recommend doing it in the tent because the hotel guests can easily look down and see people if they do not close their curtains. For the price that they are charging, I am expecting lots more in order to be consider as "luxury" spa. read more

We were staying at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. So, I called to schedule a facial for myself and my step-mom. What a crazy hassle that was. When I called to make the appointment I asked about the different types of facials. The clerk directed me to the website. I told her I had the list in front of me, but that I wasn't familiar with the types of facials. She told me that I needed to choose. We went back and forth and finally she said the esthetician could talk to me. I think she was just not knowledgeable and sick of my questions. I booked two 80 minute facials at the same time for the two of us. We arrived early as requested and filled out some paperwork in a very small reception area. We were shown to the ladies locker room and shown the amenities. This spa is small. It makes sense because The Royal Hawaiian where this spa is located is also small. The locker room was a bit cramped. A small spa doesn't have to be small everywhere. Everything is so close together that the waiting area/lounge is directly next to the only two bathroom stalls. No one wants to go to the bathroom while ladies are waiting directly outside the doors in the lounge; we're talking a few feet away. I was given the choice of an inside or outside treatment room when I made the reservation. The cost is the same, but I thought inside would be more relaxing. The outside cabanas are completely enclosed, so there is complete privacy (see photos). Akiko, my esthetician, was very good. She was quiet and attentive. The only thing I was disappointed in was that I asked for a facial recommendation (which type I should get) and she just kept reading the descriptions to me. I believe that the person who does the facial should have the ability and expertise to look at your skin and determine what you need. I settled on the basic Abhasa Tropical facial (80 minutes, $180). I also got the facial enhancement ($30) and the eye zone treatment ($30). The eye zone treatment was a nice add on. It was a cool eye mask that I enjoyed. I'm not sure the facial enhancement was anything special. The arm, hand, leg, and foot massage with the facial was nice but not really what I think of in a facial. No extractions were done during the facial even though my paperwork asked if I wanted them and I said yes. Akiko was very nice and made an effort to make sure I was comfortable. The table was too flat for my bad back so she was able to change the angle. Overall the facial was nice, but pricey for what it was. The phone receptionist was ignorant of her own spa details. The spa facilities are small and cramped, but modern and attractive. I don't think I'll be back because I like a relaxing area in the spa where I can spend some time. At this spa I'd have to relax next to bathroom stalls. Also, there is a jacuzzi but you are right in the middle of everything. If you do go, ask for Akiko. This is another one of those experiences that is hard to shrink down to one number that captures it all. Elements of my Abhasa experience were exceptional, others, less so. First things first... people complaining about the price... I think it's pretty comparable to another spa at a 4 or 5 star hotel in Waikiki. Reasonable, for certain. Yes, it's more than you'll pay in Missouri. Their rent is $300 a month, and the parking lot is mud. What do you want, it's one of the most expensive cities in America. If your Big Mac Value Meal is $9, your massage isn't going to be $100. Secondly, this place has a TON of potential, but you can tell that the management company is trying to keep costs down. There's just an overarching feel of "How can we keep costs down" that's a bit of a bummer. If you've been to a Burke Williams, or if you're fortunate enough to have ever been to the Gendarmerie in Los Angeles, you know what it feels like when corners aren't cut and client satisfaction leads every decision. That's not the feel here. The tiles could be glossier, the towels could be softer, the steamroom could be bigger, the products in the bathroom could be better. The staff were fabulous. All of the ladies up front were as nice as could be, and my massage therapist, Yiu-Cheung, was world-class. I'd put him easily in the top three I've had in my life, out of about 100. Probably top two. Good communication, perfect pressure, really felt amazing. The outdoor cabana setting, too, was luxurious and very "Hawaiian" and a nice option. If I were a local I'd come to him weekly. His girlfriend is one lucky lady. Good people. Excellent massage. Reasonable prices. Good location. Outdoor cabana is lovely, but seriously managers, spend the extra few dollars and watch your business double. I am also happy to say that I noticed some updates in the spa area while I was waiting for my hair appointment. They've placed some beautiful decorative vases in the restroom that have beautiful Hawaii orchids displayed. (The old wooden bowl in the hallway has been replaced with some beautiful wooden flower trays that are filled with lovely orchids. The more I visit this salon the more I like it!
