Abi is absolutely awesome. I have really awful TMJ and her expertise and techniques for neck/shoulder/back/head/jaw massages are one of the only things that actually make me feel better. She communicates really clearly so when I leave I actually have an idea of how to stay relaxed for a little. The prices might seem steep, but she doesn't take tips because she sets her own rates, which I love. So, if you take that into account it's actually great pricing! I've gone to Abi once every month / few months for the past year or so. Abi is the best massage therapist I've ever had! I found her by asking around for recommendations, and her name was independently recommended to me by four or five friends. I have since recommended her to a lot of friends, and they have all enjoyed her as well. The building is pretty, though it does have flights of stairs if that is a concern for you. There is usually plenty of free private parking in the back of the building (at least there has been when I've gone after work during the week), which relieves parking stress. The lobby of the building has complimentary teas and water which helps when it's warm or cold outside. Abi is attentive and starts each session by asking what you'd like to focus on, and pays a lot of attention to what you'd like to achieve. She is very aware and considerate of scrapes and bug bites and the like, and adjusts to fit feedback well (I get ticklish sometimes since I have nerves that are unhappy some places, and she's always adjusted immediately when I've mentioned it's tickling). There's always relaxing music to listen to. Occasionally I get into deep relaxation during a session and I leave those feeling completely rejuvinated, my mind having wandered off into daydreams and plans, and working out what I'd like to achieve in the coming weeks. Abi is easily booked online which helps me fit massage into my schedule! She is very warm, caring, and I leave feeling consistently refreshed and with more freedom of movement. She also is knowledgeable of TMJ issues (among many massage techniques), which I have been struggling with, which was an added bonus to find out! I've felt extremely comfortable, and recommend Abi highly to anyone. LGBTQ/etc friendly and consent-aware, which is lovely too. Looking forward to more visits soon! read more

I found Abi recently when I was looking for prenatal massage. The experience was fantastic. Abi really took the time to understand what my needs were from the massage, and checked in throughout the massage to ensure I was comfortable. She asked about my experience after the session and followed up a couple of days later to see how I was feeling. I've seen Abi several times, I've been dealing with issues after a major sinus problem, which included two surgeries leaving me with chronic tmj related pain as well as muscle tightness in my head, neck, and shoulders. She really has helped me to progress and I am feeling closer and closer to being healed. Abi is an extremely good listener, who is really good at using that information in her treatments. Abi is a great combination of warm and personable while also being very professional and respectful. She takes time to listen to why you are seeking a massage and what very particular issues you might have, and then she takes great care to address those issues, checking in with you from time to time to make sure you are comfortable. Although her checking in with you does not interfere with your ability to relax and really get as much out of the massage as possible. I just had my first visit with her recently, and it was for 30 minutes. I was given a 1hr session as a gift from a friend. Not normally my thing, but wow! I'd just started rock climbing, and I turned out to have knots of stiff, clenched muscles all through my back and shoulders. Abi is a very serious massage therapist. She can integrate the work she does with whatever other therapies you're going through for injuries and will explain what she's doing and how the different layers of things under your skin are interacting with each other and responding to pressure and movement. My only complaint is that her table is a physical therapy-type massage table instead of a spa-type massage table, but that totally makes sense given the focus of her practice. read more

I first ran into Abi's expertise during a free seminar on repetitive strain injury and carpal tunnel syndrome at MIT. She brought a variety of materials, including books, papers, and various home therapies (including the world's best hot water bottles). I was hooked. I saw Abi every other week from the summer of 2005 until the summer of 2008 (when I moved across the country so had to stop seeing her). My doctor had recommended massage as a way to both increase relaxation and to improve joint pain in my hypermobile joints. I went to Abi on the recommendation of several friends who'd seen her and praised her skill and manner, plus our previous good experience. Totally the right choice, and totally worth the money as well! I had never seen a massage therapist before, but Abi walked me through the whole process in a very supportive way. The office she worked in (and still works in) was a very welcoming, quiet space, with none of the outside noise that other therapists I've seen have had to deal with. The space feels actively healthy, which I like. For the first several years I saw Abi we went with a fairly standard massage routine, with extra attention on the knees and hands. I left every appointment completely pain free (including the walk downstairs, which is something that causes pain at all other times) and the effect lasted for days after. The last year, following a diagnosis of myofascial pain, Abi used myofascial release (a particular technique used to treat this condition) to even greater effect. It can be hard to find therapists who know about this condition and can use myofascial release; I was really fortunate that Abi was able to both suggest literature to read about it as well as treat it. While Abi is not a "pill-pusher" in the slightest I appreciated her medical knowledge and the amount of care she put into integrated treatment. She knew way more about the issues I was dealing with than any non-specialist doctor, and had a lot more knowledge about how issues in different body areas affect your overall pain levels and muscular tension. This made for good suggestions between sessions - how to stretch certain areas, or things to watch out for when dealing with tension. There was a noticeable negative difference in my overall stress levels, sleep, and pain when I'd failed to see Abi for more than two weeks - while seeing her after, e.g. backpacking or moving was a great way to get my body back to normal. I found Abi was very sensitive to working on things that I asked for help with - some massage therapists are inflexible and have difficulty adjusting their practices to a client's needs - not so with Abi. We started each appointment with a check in - not only how my body was doing, but whether certain things had or hadn't worked in prior sessions. This feedback made things much more effective; Abi is a good listener before, after, and during a massage, and was good at sensing when I was interested in a conversation or when i just needed to enjoy the peace and quiet of a good massage. Your back, wrists, knees, brain, stress levels, and sleep will thank you for seeing her! I would still be seeing Abi if I were in Boston today; she's the greatest. read more
