I'll start off with the pros: - cool little U of U hat for baby and water jugs for dad and mom - alright care from staff Cons: - will only allow 2 visitors per day! - husbands, no meals for you ( so your stuck paying to eat at cafeteria or driving all the way down to downtown or at least 15 mins for a meal) - no nursery so both you and mom can sleep - students staff learning and practicing on you - list goes on but basically the university hospital just cheats out on a lot of stuff. SUMMARY: IF YOU CAN CHOOSE DO NOT HAVE BABY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH!

The first was delivered in a brand spanking new (and heavily advertised) "Mother-Baby Center" in the Twin Cities. The MNBC is superior in every respect, and I'd strongly encourage anyone looking for a place to deliver to come to the U of U. Here's why: :::Staff::: The nurses, social workers, doctors and support staff were uniformly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. In the course of our two-day stay we interacted with literally dozens of hospital staff, and every single one impressed us with their kindness and professionalism. Really. Every damn person that came around was simply awesome. I'd come back from the bathroom to find my wife gut-laughing with an unknown person in scrubs. I'd ask "do you know her? an old friend of yours?" No. Turns out it's just one of her nurses or an attending physician. Cool! :::Support::: You are taken care of in every way. You order food from a diverse menu and are served in your room. Baby's birth certificate and SSN info. is handled. Baby gets all his/her shots/immunization, testing etc. Mother is tended to regularly, and every time someone visits they end by asking "what can I do for you? what do you need right now?" Pain management people make sure mom is not too uncomfortable. Lactation consultants coach mom through breast-feeding. It goes on and on. :::Experience::: The level of education and experience here was incredible. My wife is a pediatrician, and she was not only impressed by all the doctors, nurses and residents, she learned a lot simply from all the years of experience surrounding us. For the delivery, our nurse Elma was incredibly intuitive and helpful; turns out she's been working with the hospital for over 40 years. She knew baby delivery in a way so much deeper and more meaningful than you'd ever get through just a medical degree. :::Special Touches::: The typical stay is overnight or two days. Any longer than that is usually not covered by insurance. But if your kid is in the ICU and can't leave the hospital, they have several "Twilight Rooms" for mothers to stay free of charge. It's basically just a small windowless room with a bed, nightstand and TV, but it's free. Mom doesn't have to run back and forth from home to see her baby, or worse, sleep on a chair in the hallway. They don't have to provide these rooms, but they do. Your baby will also get this fancy plush blanket from Minky Coutre upon release. It's branded with Utah Jazz logos, but it's of serious quality (going for $70 retail) and is simply a nice treat. I can't say enough good things about the way we were treated and the level of skill here. They took a ton of the stress out of a really stressful ordeal. If it only had a pool it would be. I toured a couple of places and this one and their location called the East side are excellent. They don't stink which was a priority for me. My Mom is really fussy about the food she will eat but most of the meals are good. She can choose what she wants daily and they accommodate her. The staff ratio seems adequate and I can at least leave her knowing she will be ok. Her room is huge too. The Case Manager at the U of U Hospital is the most horrible person I have ever met. She was trying to put my Mom in these horrible places. I had to take over the process. When I got here I asked the admitting Nurse if Case Managers get perks from these places. She said that they do get paid but the Parent Company Of Aspen Ridge do not pay because they don't have to. They are the nicest place in town. I've already told them to hold me a spot in about 20 years it's that nice. Demand that your loved ones only get the best and this is the best.

There seems to be a lack of information online about this process. Before you go, if you would…read morelike an estimate of the costs, imc provides a number you can call and they will provide a cost estimate. It may take you 4-5 calls to get it. They quoted us about 5k for two days or less. Remember your wife and newborn will be getting separate bills. If your having a boy, circumcism is usually done outside of the hospital. You will also have your obyn fee and epidural are separate fees. Epidural is likely 1-3k depending on length for routine vaginal delivery. Your insurance coverage will determine how much you pay. Our ob told us to go to labor when water broke, but apparently you do not need to go until contractions reach a certain point. if you have pre register, you go in, they ask your wife to weigh and ask her to answer some written questions about whether or not her husband is beating her. They ask this to all women because apparently women are unable to speak for or help themselves without their intervention. Accusing one's husband of abuse prior to birth always improves everyone's spirits prior to treatment. Once admitted they take you to your labor room. Its a private room and a labor nurse will introduce herself and get you situated. Your wife will lay in a bed. There is a chair or couch area the support person can sit. The nurses change at 7am and 7pm. A lot of your experience will depend on your assigned nurse. Nurses seemed competent but they are not Dr.s. Unless you have complication, will likely briefly see dr until baby's head is crowning. Once born, they clean up your baby, let you have an hour with the baby if you choose and offer to inject them with vitamin k and apply antibiotic eye drops. VitaminK was not the pzfizer one, so its was supposed to be preservative free. Your 48 hour insurance stay begins minute baby is born. After about an hour and a half, they take you upstairs in a wheelchair to maternity. Similar type of room. Its a private room with bed, bathroom, shower and Tv. There is also a couch, rocking chair and normal chair. Imc has some free guest wifi service. Maternity nurse introduces policies and procedures and asks for your pronouns. They leave a sandwich for your wife if baby born when cafeteria is closed. You are able to order meals from a room service menu from I think 6am to 7pm during your stay. Husband or support person gets one meal during stay as part of your room costs. Nurses change at 7am like labor. In our experience some great nurses and some terrible ones. They start testing your baby for all kind of things and monitor your wife's vital signs during your stay. They also seek to inject your baby with hep b shot soon after arrival in maternity. Its good to have a birth plan for both labor and maternity. In the morning, someone from your ob's office will check on you and your pediatricians. If you do not have staff pediatric will check on your child. We watched when baby was taken out of room, once we saw a nurse with a syringe injecting something into our child's mouth. We questioned our room nurse and she told us it was sugar water to calm the baby. This was done without our consent. So be aware when you do not have child in room with you. They have lots of questions they ask your wife. My wife was tired and exhausted and chose to opt out of some questions. The nurse called in social services to interrogate my wife because she opted out. It's important for everyone to understand they are creating a database about you and you do not have to answer any of their questions. They are not your friends. Basically anything you say may be used against you in the future. I am not sure why any woman would answer questions on postpartum depression. Best to seek treatment yourself without state intervention. They asked my wife if she was suicidal? If she wanted to sign up for food stamps. Perhaps, their own racism as my wife is not white. My wife has a professional job and would never qualify for food stamps. Also, the obligatory does your husband beat you and are you endangered questions. For some reason, they seem to think these types of questions are good to ask their patients. They were highly offensive to us. We should push back. I am not sure where else you pay 10-20k for services to be treated this way. Imagine if you were buying a car and they asked you this type of stuff. If you wanna know extra costs or their procedures on billing during your stay, they will say call your insurance. If on a weekend, you will have to wait to get any potential answers. Apparently, if you leave in middle of night you are good to be discharged but if in the morning you will have to wait for ped and ob to show up. Lactation specialist was wonderful. We had about 5 nurses. 2 were great 2 horrible and one bad. Nursing care will determine whether your experience is positive or negative at imc.

My labor experience wasn't the greatest, but the staff made it all so much better. They gave me a wonderful experience that I can share with my friends and family for a life time. I came into the hospital at 6am on June, 22nd. Cynthia Labor and Delivery was our first nurse. She was so kind and amazing! When my labor started she was right next to me to make sure I was comfortable. Dr. Rose was the anesthesiologist who gave me the epidural. I was told by many friends and family how the epidural is so painful. Dr. Rose, came into my room and had me laughing before she started and after she was all done. She was making jokes and singing well giving me the epidural. I can say the whole time I never felt any pain. She was so amazing! my husband and I quote the little things she said. I brag to people how amazing she was. I'm truly so thankful for the fun memories she gave me. not many people can say that about their epidural. Our next amazing nursery was Kanzy. After many hours of labor we found out I needed a C-Section. I was so upset and worried when I found out. I cried, because I didn't want a C-section, but I was willing to do whatever it took to make sure my baby was going to come into this world healthy. While I was crying my Nurse Kanzy, looked at me and told me she was going to be with me the whole time in the OR. I was so thankful for those kind words. After she had said that I felt so much better. I knew not only was I in good hands, but so was my baby. Kanzy was so patient and kind with me. She truly has an amazing heart. While I was in the OR I had another anesthesiologist who helped take care of me. I feel horrible because I can't remember his name. I wish I wrote it down. However, I remember him being so kind while I was scared out of my mind. I had horrible shakes in my arms and he was trying to calm me and told me the shakes are totally normal to have. I was very thankful to have such a caring person looking after me. Our next nurse was Jenny in Mom/baby until. I just have no worlds for how amazing she was. We where lucky enough to have her take care of us two night in a row. She was sweet and loving toward us and we just loved her. Our next nurse was Raelynn. Raelynn was and is such a sweetheart! I felt so bad for her! we where such a needy family and she always came into our room with a smile and was so happy to help us. She took care of us three days in a row. My husband, baby, and I felt so lucky to have her take care of us for three days! When she helped me to the car I so badly wanted to give her a hug. I was in a lot of pain and needed to sit down right away. So, I didn't get a chance to hug and thank her for taking care of us. I wish I could have given her the biggest hug! The last nurse to take care of us was Tabatha. She was so cute and funny! she kept us laughing for sure! She took care of us on our last night in the hospital. I was so thankful for her little jokes. She kept me smiling while our baby was keeping us up at night. Cynthia, Kanzy, Jenny, Raelynn, and Tabatha, Are such amazing, care, wonderful, sweet people! I truly don't know how I got so lucky. I'm sure all the staff at Intermountain Hospital are all amazing, but I for sure got the best staff. When we were driving away from the hospital, I cried for many reasons. I cried because we were moving onto the next chapter of our lives and I couldn't be happier. I also cried because I was so thankful for the Nurse's and Doctors I had to take care of us. I was truly going to miss seeing them all. I tell everyone how amazing the staff is and how anyone and everone would be so lucky to be at this hospital! This place so far has been the best. Three months again when my son arrived - he hated me, yelled…read moreand cussed, set things on fire, and would answer any calls. It was rough. Three months later at family week we are able to talk, sit on the same sofa, and he's apologized for all that happened and will express love. The family support groups are very supportive. You don't feel like you're all alone or that your child is the only one. The staff on the therapy side have been very communicative and supportive in putting in place plans to advance. The kids even enjoy just about all of the staff when they are being honest. I've seen kids go from being alone and unable to communicate to being able to communicate and hold themselves accountable. They also have a school program the kids are enrolled into so they do not miss any school. This also helps parents work with the school to get this type of treatment paid for when insurance will not. The one thing I wish was better was communication with the medical professionals. We have been trying to get to speak to the doctor about changes in his medication and it's been impossible even with the therapist seeing them a message each week during the weekly session. Overall we have been down this road before but this time it seems like he's actually getting skills and progress that will last.

While there were aspects of my time at Youth Care that were useful for me, my overall experience was horrid. In February Of 2001 my parents where at their wits end and talked to an educational consultant who recommended this facility. I was skipping school, running away, and in and out of psychiatric hospitals. My parents hired a bounty hunter company to surprise me in the middle of the night in my bedroom while I was sleeping, handcuff me, and put me on an airplane headed to Utah. This was a direct recommendation of the Youth Care facility. I was at this facility for 2.5 years. The treatment team "didn't feel comfortable" graduating me. In the summer of 2003 the treatment team told my parents "there was nothing more they could do for me." Three months later, my parents finally pulled me out. I developed a very hopeless and pessimistic attitude towards my future and my life while in this place. Phone calls were monitored and staff would hang the phone up for me if I wanted to talk to my parents about anything negative having to do with Youth Care. I roomed with skinheads, violent kids, and other troubled youth. One of my most vivid memories was a scandal involving one of my friends and a staff member who made my friend walk naked in front of him at least a couple times. In addition, there were two different instances I was made aware of where 2 separate adult male staff members groomed and sexually pursued a 14-year-old female patient, and in another case of 16-year-old female patient. In both of these cases, the staff members were fired when the scandals were brought to light, but no legal action was ever pursued against these offenders. It seemed to me at the time, and still seems to me that Youth Care didn't want that sort of publicity. I believe that they tried to keep it hush-hush as the police where never involved/called but the kids affected (my peers) had to meet at least once with lawyers representing Youth Care privately. I developed unhealthy eating habits which turned into an eating disorder that I still have to this day, and a life long resentment for my family for sending me to such a awful place. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I have gone through years of family counseling with my parents to get to a point where we can communicate effectively and lovingly again. When someone asks me how my high school experience was, I don't have much to say, because I felt like I was in juvenile prison, as my experience at Youth Care was very similar to that. Lastly, I would like to point out as I am looking through these reviews that it is apparent to me that most of the positive reviews of Youth Care are paid promotion. That's right, you can pay a PR company to leave positive reviews for your company to offset the many negative reviews from actual patients. -David

Every staff member knows my name and is genuinely is happy to see me when I come to visit. They care for my dad like they would care for a member of their own family. Since I am a resident of Salt Lake City, I began searching for a care center so she could be moved here, and I could manage her care. I feel extremely fortunate to have found Crescent Senior Living Center in Sandy, UT. This facility is everything it claims to be and more. The staff is professional and extremely attentive to all of her needs. In addition to the facility being kept clean and comfortable, it offers almost daily activities for the residents to participate in and fosters a family-like atmosphere. I have been very happy with the Crescent Senior Living Center and the care they have provided my sister. I would strongly recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for quality care for a loved one.
