We tried a Petit Verdot (hubby), Virginian, and ended with our favorite Merlot. Try their pizza as it's very good. We ordered their flavor of the day, meatball! The crust is chewy and very flavorful. Quick, friendly service at noon on a rainy Saturday at noon. We sat at a high top round table and watched the rain.

It was raining, and my wife expected a different atmosphere, but Kristy stuck with it and we settled in fine. It was a wonderful lunch, we tasted some delicious wines, and we, highly, recommend it.

The restaurant is underneath with a look view of part of the vineyard. We asked and it's only been open a couple of years. The waitress was surprised when we said we weren't. Don't let that stop you, it's a beautiful setting with great food. Helpful hint: Wine tastings don't start until noon. We were given a tour of the Cidery and welcome to roam the land as much as we wanted. Every cider they have is such a delicious beverage ranging from sweet to dry to fruit forward and piney! Their signature vegetarian dish is a hearty lentil stew delivered over mashed potatoes. I got my greens in by adding pickled collard greens and a seasonal ramp chutney. I was greeted with a resplendent mix of warm and savory flavors that was hard to stop eating. Their chai was a bit sweet and had an interesting spice blend. Availability is very limited, with both a small menu and some options running out towards the end of the day, bearing in mind that they close early. As a full restaurant, it wouldn't measure up. Maybe they'll get there some day. As it is, I would suggest coming early. There are some good restaurants in Abingdon, but you won't find food like this anywhere else.

We ordered more food than we could eat because living out-of-state, we knew it would be our last chance for a long while. Everything we ordered (another Daal Me Up, Saag with Grits, and Curry Me Down South) was AMAZING! The idea to marry Indian and Southern cuisines is genius and works so well. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Not only is this place top-notch for the area, it is excellent for any area! I hope to be able to recreate some of their wonderful dishes at home until we are in Southwest Virginia again!

The main building is a lovely and spacious modern inn that balances comfort and traditional elements with open and wide modern floor plans and bright spaces in a pleasing way while retaining the cozy fireplace experiences of more traditional settings. A first floor outdoor veranda opposite the main entrance stretches the length of the main building overlooking the well groomed hillside vineyards and a stocked, picturesque fishing pond. The hillside stretches up the horizon and with the westward facing veranda, offers stunning sunset views along with wine service. Below is a patio off the main restaurant and bar offering even more seating around fire pits with couches and Adirondack chairs with appetizer and drinks available for the bar/restaurant. We toured a king 2 room suite with a large sitting area separated from an equally large and well appointed sleeping area with a private large balcony that also faced the western sunset over the vineyards. The rooms were described as more akin to an apartment whereas the 9 onsite yurts accommodations were described more akin to a condo, described as pet friendly and a quiet community. Behind the yurts is a large barn structure that serves as a tasting room with an outdoor seating area with Edison lights strung around the overhang creating a warm space to enjoy the vineyards end production, currently nine wine vintages. Beside the main building are two much larger shaped yurt structures housing a full fitness center and a spa as will as an outdoor pool. We dined at Hickory for dinner and enjoyed their farm to table, Appalachia oriented menus. That will be a separate review but it hits 10/10 for hospitality, service, presentation and food excellence. We plan a fall trip for an overnight stay when the vineyards come in just before harvest to get the full experience! Also, we initially had a glass of their Chardonnay and being pleased with this, we opted to enjoy a bottle with dinner even though the wine list had equally excellent choices from familiar vineyards. Two other people did arrive just a minute after we started and they were able to get integrated into our group. Our guide gave us fantastic info and even let us smell what they were currently working on. He also answered my many, many questions about the complexities of working so close to the state boarder (I was so curious!). The people who were also on our tour really tried to stir the pot by asking questions about local brewery drama. However, our guide was incredibly gracious and spoke kindly about all his local competitors. I could definitiely see the grit it takes to be a small local producer. We got to see the barrel room and the amount of work it takes to produce and manage all that inventory seems like a lot. After we took our tour, we sampled some of the offerings. They had whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, brandy, and perhaps something else. Much of what they had was quite strong, and really nice quality. I ended up getting some of the golden rum and a couple of other smaller things. This is definitely worth a stop in. The tour and tasting was free and family owners/operators were really nice.
