Decent food spots in Abingdon, VA are mighty few in number. Abingdon isn't exactly known as a culinary destination so between the many fast food joints, if you want something a little more ethnic and tasty, Greeko's is one of the few options on hand. It's a small house in Main Street and not terribly big but still felt kind of cosy. I was here for a quick lunch during a weekend workshop but managed to try out their Moussaka. Now I've had Moussaka in Greece and at many Greek restos in Montreal and it's always been presented as a stacked dish, like lasagna. Greeko's version wasn't stacked at all but rather looked liked it had spread over half the plate. Taste-wise, it wasn't bad at all but this is Abingdon after all so my expectations weren't high at all. Service was quick and friendly. read more

Nice little family Greek restaurant. We both had gyros and fries. The meat was tender and the pita was fresh, and I could have eaten a gallon of that tzatziki sauce. The fries were hot and fresh. Staff were attentive and friendly, even though the restaurant was super busy. We will definitely be back through next time we are in the area. read more

I had some compunctions about trying a Mediterranean restaurant in this rural area. These resolved quickly upon eating. This place was pretty crowded but fortunately it was a very nice evening for outdoor seating. The menu is broad and includes a decent set of vegetarian selections; not just falafel but substantial salads, a veggie pita, and some other bean-based options. The plate I ordered delivered a robust selection of flavors. The falafel itself hit a freshly fried flavor note, while the salad I added had ample nuts and fruit and came with a citrus olive oil dressing that elevated the experience. It was a large plate, and I did not really need the extra side of fries that I ordered, but I was not disappointed with these lightly breaded creations. The menu encourages customization, and for those diners with special dietary needs, this is as good a bet as you're likely to find for some distance. They also seemed to have sponsored the local softball arena so they're pretty active in the community. Most importantly, it was as delicious as any cuisine of this sort I've had in a while and makes a great argument for the Mediterranean way of eating. read more

I have been considering this place since I saw their first location in Abingdon. Finally, after a new place opened in Bristol, I decided to meet a friend there for lunch. We had just arrived at 11am and were their first customers not getting breakfast. Yes, they do breakfast and I heard it's fantastic. So, onto to our lunch orders. My friend ordered the falafel pita with fries and I chose the lamb gyro with a side of soup. My soup was very tasty and I enjoyed it. The gyro was not as such. The meat was dry and overcooked and the tzatziki sauce was used sparingly. On the other hand, my friend's pita was delicious, in her words. The food was fantastic!! I ordered the "Choose Two" platter with the Lamb Gyro and Chicken Souvlaki. The chicken was a little tough. I'm not sure if it was slightly over cooked or just got a slightly tougher piece. I would suggest pounding the chicken with a tenderizing mallet just to soften the meat a little. The lamb was fantastic! It was flavorful and seasoned well. The service was ok. It wasn't bad, but it was not very tentative either. That being said, the food was really good! You should definitely try this place out when in Abingdon. Just check for hours of operation. read more

The food was rather lovely. Some of the dishes were a little different than the traditional Greek cuisine I'm used to. The Greek moussaka is a little weird, more like layered sludge or "chicken parm" than a slice out of a deep dish like pan... The beans were amazing, the spanakopita was sooo fresh, the salad was lovely, Greek burger was surprisingly good! Greek nachos were weird but good. Salmon on the side was absolutely amazing. Atmosphere was very cafe, super chill, bright, and open. Service was spot on. Pronunciation of the dishes wasn't great but it is just a cafe, nothing too fancy, so I get it. Tiramisu was lovely as well! I would come back again. :) read more

So we stopped at Greeko's for lunch while doing a little shopping in Abingdon and were very happy we did. Place was packed which is always a good sign, but we got seated right away. Server was on it and very friendly, which isn't always the case in Abingdon. Started with the app sampler, as I like to do, to get an idea of there goodies. No Froo Froo but definitely tasty. Hummus, tzatziki, falafel, dolmades, and pita triangles all were fresh and quite yummy. We had the Lamb Gyro Pita sandwich which was fabulous. Got the fries and Greek salad as sides, both very good. Their fries, some of the best I have ever had...go figure. Definitely will return when up there again. read more

I love middle eastern food and this is one of the best! I love the rice that they serve with their dishes! Appetizers- The Spanikopita appetizer is absolutely to die for, hummus is always a must! Main course-Greeko's salad with the potato salad is excellent and so are their kabobs! They always have a good selection of desserts too! This is a must in the SWVA area! We've had them cater events for us and it is excellent as well, so if you have a large family they can handle it! read more

Incredible family owned Greek restaurant in downtown Abingdon! My wife and I really loved this place for the atmosphere, service and mostly the food. I eat a lot of Greek food with my church and let me tell you, Greeko's is authentic. My wife enjoyed her Lamb and Chicken pita and I loved the pastitsio. Many times have I stopped at this exit on my way to or from home, but never have I stopped at a place like Greeko's. I am so glad our GPS took us here! First off, the restaurant was very clean even down to the restrooms. The staff was very friendly and gave us their suggestions. Our food came out in a timely manner and was hot. It was obvious that the ingredients were fresh. My large salad with lamb gyro was the perfect sized meal. My mother also enjoyed her fried chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious! Adorably decorated restaurant with a variety of seating indoors and out with plenty of free parking. Friendly attentive servers served delicious Greek Foods in a timely fashion. We had avegolemono soup, falafel salad and lamb gyro salad. Then took various deserts to go. Went back, at the insistence of a friend that we'd surely had an atypical meal the first time. So here we went today, 10-11 months later to retry Greeko's. I didn't think it was possible to be worse than the first time, but, hoo-boy, they failed us. I tried the Greek Chicken platter this time with a side of fiesta sauce. The meager meal cost $18.32. 1.) the food is low quality -- nothing was fresh. We travel for a living and have Greek food in countless towns across the US, this is the least authentic in recent memory. 2.) It doesn't taste like Greek food (lemony, garlicky, simple, fresh, made-to-order). Seasonings are more along the lines of Moroccan, with a dash of Indian. The rice was cool, dry, tasted a day or so old. Chicken was seasoned, but nothing remotely Greek flavored. It too was slightly dry, tasted older, and was in bits/bites versus larger pieces that is typical. The tzatziki sauce was about the only thing worth eating and remotely close to resembling Greek food. There were no tomatoes, lettuce, feta, nada. Just dry rice couple of pita slices, and chicken. The fiesta sauce was a tragedy. They're not even trying here. It was horrible. Service was less friendly this time around. Seemed fairly disengaged. This cured me of ever returning. The poor quality and cost doesn't justify any of it. Very disappointed ((again)) read more

Just an unassuming little diner style place but comfy and delish. The Greek nachos were droolworthy. The falafel was I swear the best I've ever tasted, and I've had a lot of falafel from a lot of places. It's not a fancy place, but it's fantastically good Greek eats. Greeko's was great! We were passing through and wanted a late lunch and saw Greeko's on Yelp and decided to give them a try and were glad we did. They have a small but nice outdoor patio if that's your speed. The parking lot was a bit small but mostly empty on the Saturday late afternoon we came on. We had the giant Greeko's mixed platter and split it between the two of us, which was perfect for lunch portions. If you're hungry or tend to eat larger servings, it may not be enough to split, but we found it to be the perfect amount of food. The falafel, dolmade, and meatball were delicious, and they gave a generous amount of lamb and chicken. Both proteins were perfectly season and delicious paired with the rice. It also comes with a generous amount of Greek salad which we both really enjoyed, as well as 4 pita pieces + hummus. Don't forget to use the tzatziki as well!
