Seared Scallops

Gorgeous views of the mountains and hillsides, and equally delicious food! The bar seating was uncomfortable, but thats really my only complaint. I had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and the scallops entree, both delicious. Bar service was attentive and polite. I'd go again and recommend to anyone.

Summers Rooftop Salad with Pasta and chicken.

My wife and I got to eat our last meal at Summers Rooftop. When we made reservations they did not mention that it was the last day for the public. This company was going private. Catering only! This is a big disappointment. The best place is Abingdon if not in SW Virginia to eat a good meal. Very disappointed. It was alway a great place, great people working and great atmosphere. Sorry to see this go!!!!

Grew up in Abingdon but left too many years to count. To say that this town has changed would be an understatement. The level of restaurants that call it home is truly respectable. On this visit we tried to get into The Tavern but alias, we could not. After having great drinks there at the bar we walked across the street to try out The Summer and the Cellar and although Tavern would always be my first choice, this establishment runs a very close second. Let's break it down: Atmosphere 4 Stars: we found the name was very fitting to the vibe in a very good way. It's a small intimate experience that exceeds expectations. The amount of work that must have been done to make this a viable and outstanding place to dine shows itself throughout. Service 5 Stars: our waiter waisted no time to make us feel at home. He was very attentive to my wife's wine needs and allowed her to taste several before committing. He was involved without being suffocating. His knowledge of the menu was spot on. Food 4 Stars: they excelled. We started with the bread which I would strongly recommend. My only "ask" is that they provide olive oil. We had the wedge which was very fresh. Main course was the NY Strip. Cooked to perfection and very flavorful. We did not have desert. Selection seemed uninspiring and limited but after that meal, we were cool with that. Value 5 Stars: all this for $110 plus tip. In nashville it would have easily would have stung the wallet for over $150 or more. Overall we were very satisfied wirh the entire experience. Plus there is the bonus of the roof top which we indulged for drinks before dinner. I have definitely aged and matured in the years since living here and it's great to see that this wonderful town has done so with grace and style.

One of the best places to dine in abingdon. Tonight we had salami, deviled eggs, meatballs, and some amazing sword fish!

Beet Carpaccio

While in town we heard about the great wines served here and decided to stop by for appetizers that turned into dinner. The Beet Carpaccio was to die for - beautifully plated and a tasty balance of sweet, tart, savory and nutty flavors. I chose to pair it with a glass of Sangiovese. The ambiance was great sitting at the bar, beautiful brass rails and granite from a rooftop bar. The bartenders were fun to chat with and attentive to their guests. We ended up adding burgers to our order after seeing other customers bite into the bacon jam covered massive patty... and we were not disappointed! Overall great experience.

This is my 5 unseasoned scallops for $44 (the "crispy prosciutto" was merely dried-out, cold, and hard prosciutto)

Our food was overpriced and underwhelming. However, our server was very good. We were seated at our table at 8pm, the indoor roof area was very loud. I was sitting two feet across from my husband and we could barely hear each other speaking. My husband's $48 ribeye was overcooked and his truffle fries had no truffle, nor even a hint of truffle oil. We don't see any reason to return.

It was an exceptionally brilliant idea. The place has a phenomenal staff (especially Opie). They were welcoming, personable and knowledgeable. They had a deep experience with wines that helped guide the experienced wine drinkers and an empathetic approach to those (aka, me) who were clueless. I (ahm, the inexperienced) were never intimidated or given the snob treatment. However, my brother who knows his way around a bottle or two (or at least actively tries to fake it) was given the appropriate insights to what he was drinking. Across the ten of us, we tried multiple different wines and they were all well liked. Many made their way home as people had to take some bottles home. You can tell that I'm an amateur because the whole "flight of wines" thing was new to me. It was brilliant to sample many different varieties in what I would call shooters to the great disappointment of my brother. Yeah, I told you he acted like he knew what he was doing. They also gave us a brief tour of the beautiful grounds as well as a look "behind the scenes". I would really recommend visiting in the fall and maybe seeing things in action. The drive is a bit "way back there", but I highly encourage you to take the trip. It's definitely worth it.

My wife…read moreand I came up for a quick getaway, and this spot turned out to be the highlight of our trip. We lucked out with a table on the cozy patio sitting on Main Street, where the town buzzes with life. The interior is beautiful and refined, but the outdoor setting, with the fresh mountain air and the hum of the town, created the perfect backdrop for a special evening. Service was impeccable. Gracious, attentive, and perfectly timed throughout the night. We began with a chilled French Chenin Blanc that paired beautifully with our appetizers. The escargot, bathed in a garlic cream and Gruyère sauce, was rich and mouth meltingly tasty. The braised and seared octopus was incredibly tender, deeply flavorful, and quite honestly, one of the best we've had anywhere. For mains, we shared the heirloom tomato burger, which was juicy, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. Alongside that, we split the mushroom burrata orecchiette, pillowy pasta coated in a creamy lemon pistachio pesto with locally sourced mushrooms. It was rich, bright, and beautifully composed. When dessert rolled around, we switched things up with cocktails. I had the old fashioned with a pistachio twist, complex and not overly sweet. My wife enjoyed a smooth and flavorful espresso martini. Both paired wonderfully with the finale: a creamy, light tiramisu and a house-made French éclair with fresh peaches. Each bite was the perfect ending to an already stunning meal. From start to finish, Café Violette delivered. The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the view all came together in the best possible way. This is French fine dining with soul, nestled in one of North Carolina's most charming towns. An absolute must-visit in Blowing Rock.

We also had a small dinner salad I had Caesar and my daughter had regular small salad with ranch. Michael had steak and scallops cooked to perfection. The ladies had wine and Michael had his brown sugar old fashioned with extra cherries . Then we ordered two deserts a coconut cream brûlée and a pichstasio cake. We all liked the crème brûlée best. Stephanie was extremely attentive and we wanted for nothing. We will ask for her next time as well. Thank you chef and Stephanie for a lovely evening.
