We finally decided to give Abington Ale House another try after many years because it was too hot to cook. I'm glad to be updating my review! The service was very good, and the restaurant still has its fun atmosphere and eclectic décor. The bar area was a little too warm, but the host kindly found us a cool booth in the dining room. We could still hear the trivia game from the bar, but it just added to the lively vibe. The onion strings were delectable--just a tad greasy. I was happy to see a turkey burger on the menu, and it was quite good. The baked scrod was delicious. Some might think the portion was small, but it was just right for me. The mashed potatoes were tasty, the green beans were perfectly cooked, but the carrots were just okay. Overall, this visit was a pleasant surprise and a huge improvement over our previous experience. We were here on a Friday night at 7pm. Big parking lot w plenty of spots. Lively atmosphere, families, big bar area to the left and booth's families moreso on the right. We came in and had Victoria as our server. Not only was she incredibly on top of every individual request, she nailed every order down to the specifics. I don't think we've ever had a more attentive server at any establishment in as long as I can remember. We love the vibe at the Ale House. If you go in, make sure you look for Victoria, although all of the stuff is incredible. They have the best and most unique menu, not like all the other places. 10/10. read more

We were just having drinks and apps, and she and the cook accommodated our request to put meat on half the taco nachos (for a Lenten request) by making two separate nacho orders! A perfect date night! Food was plentiful and tasty, prices are decent but it's starting to get hard going out on SS with the food costs. We ate outdoors under the tent and our bar keep/waiter was great, music was good and not over powering although he bar inside was Josling and noisy as it should be. The Restaurant: Clean and organized. Well decorated with a lot of quirky and eye-catching pieces. The bathroom was clean as well. The Food: For appetizers we ordered the spinach artichoke dip ($13.50), the spicy cauliflower ($13.50) and nachos ($16.50). The artichoke dip was super cheesey and yummy. The cauliflower and nachos were both ok. For my entree I ordered the marinated steak tips ($27) that came with a side of rice pilaf and a piece of cornbread with honey butter. The steak tips were good and the rice pilar and cornbread were both ok. None of it was bad but none of it was amazing either. I also got a non-alcoholic coconut margarita ($8) which I felt like needed a stronger coconut flavor to it. The dessert was an apple eggroll ($10) with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. This was honestly quite impressive. It was original (or at least I'd never seen it apple eggrolls before) and incredibly delicious. The Service: Our waiter was Colin R and he was very fast and friendly. No complaints at all. Overall decent food in an ok restaurant. Nothing to necessarily write home about but I can see this place being good for family dinners like it was for mine. I'd come back but maybe just try different things on the menu. read more

Stopped in here for lunch. We sat on the patio area. Enjoyed a couple appetizers. The buffalo chicken dip empanadas were very good! They have 4 in an order. The steak and cheese flatbread was very well done and hard to cut to share. Ends were a little black and not very tasty. The Vermont Turkey melt was very good! It was very loud sitting right under the speaker. We did ask if it could be turned down as we had a toddler with us and staff agreed but it never happened. But our waitress was pretty overwhelmed, very nice, but had a couple large parties to herself. She did come by a couple times quickly passing to ask if we needed anything as she walked by. There were six of us, three adults and three young kids, We enjoyed ourselves very much.. I had a great roast beef sandwich that I could dip in onion soup. my college aged daughter loved her burger. It was a great place for the kids who colored and enjoyed their mac & cheese and chicken tenders as well as their chocolate milk. The onion rings were really good. The beer selection was great and I had a main lunch IPA. We had never been there, but our waiter Ian was really good. It was the day after Thanksgiving, and there were four or five crowded tables around us, and everyone was happy I checked out the area and talked to a few people because myself and my daughter were early. A good beer selection- although not if you call yourself an ale house. We had a local craft brew from Barrel House Z- that was good. Colin our server was charming and accommodating. He got me a sample of the beer to try. We started with the Firecracker Cauliflower- which was amazing with a cucumber wasabi dipping sauce- highly recommend. My husband got COCONUT CURRY CHICKEN WRAP- which was new to the menu. He enjoyed- he said it was a subtle curry taste- not as powerful as in a Thai place. This place is conveniently located right on Route 18 in Abington across from the Dollar Tree. They have a decent sized menu which offers appetizers, salads, chicken, pasta, steaks, sandwiches and burgers, seafood dishes and more. The dining room atmosphere is always pleasant and it is well heated in the colder months. They also have a bar if you prefer to sit at the bar. If you are hosting a function there is also a function room available towards the back of the dining area. I have always received good service each time that I've been here over the years. I've tried their steak tips before and their chicken as well but today I was in the mood for a burger so I ordered their hamburger with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion with french fries on the side. It was very delicious and cooked to my liking. The only thing that I can say that I don't like about this place is that they do charge for bread if you want bread for the table. Most places in these parts offer complimentary bread or rolls when you're ordering meals but this restaurant charges I believe I saw $4.50 as a price for a loaf of bread. I have actually ordered it before and I will say that their bread is delicious but in my opinion the bread should be included with the meal. Overall though, the atmosphere and service is always excellent here and the food is delicious. So four stars. I will certainly be back. read more

Because at birthday outing I did not make a big deal out of it but it surely was the worst.. Probably at bottom of freezer tossed in broiler and out to me. the top had some burned on it. My husband and I ate here before we went to Barrett's Haunted House for their drive in movie experience. They have tons of options on the menu, I ordered their special drink that they had on Saturday night and it was really good! We had their bread and cornbread as starters. The cornbread was delicious and it came with a cinnamon butter spread, also delicious. As an entree I ordered their Mac n cheese with golden tenders, it was okay. The Mac n cheese felt a bit bland and the honey bbq sauce on the golden tenders made it had some taste to it. The hubby ordered a chicken pot pie and he absolutely loved it. As a dessert, I ordered the apple cobbler and that was phenomenal. Service was great. I would recommend anyone who is planning to eat here to make a reservation or else they will turn you away. I saw a lot of this happening and it's a good thing I always check the restaurants website and social media on whether it is required to make reservations etc. Please be nice to the staff, everyone is trying their best during these times. read more

Abington Ale House is the perfect place to apply the 3 star rule to, but I'm giving it 4 stars so it doesn't confuse anybody as to being 'bad'. If you know what to order at a town pub, you can't really go wrong. If you order something that probably isn't expected to be the greatest in a pub setting, of course it's going to be subpar. You just gotta be a pub kinda guy. Does that make sense? I've never been upset with the quality of meat at the Ale House. Burgers, tips, chicken, they've always been good. Just don't forget steak still cooks itself when it comes off the grill...so if you think pub steak is overcooked, order it one step less cooked than you usually get. The boneless chicken/chicken tender batter is great here since it's not the generic dried out texture (or chicken) you'd expect. They have a nice variety of sauces they can be tossed in or sent out on the side. Theyre great for kids too, including those that may have food sensory issues. Now, would I order a salad at a pub? Absolutely not. Maybe that's the ex-server in me - nothing wrong with it, but nothing really great about it either. Bland and expensive. Again it's a weird thing to get at a pub. So that's more on the customer than a pub, you feel me? Ultimately, the fried stuff is the good stuff. Consider my 3 star rule similar to a 3 star hotel. You get a considerable amount of amenities over something like a no frills motel as long as you don't expect a couples spa package. read more

We got the cauliflower appetizer which had a chilli sauce on it and it was delicious!!! I could eat those all night. My honey bbq chicken Mac and cheese was to die for. I went to the ale house for Lunch and I will never go back. It was such a disappointment. My Friend ordered a burger well done. It took forever to get served. The waiter was obnoxious and told us the delay getting our food was because her Burger was ordered well done. I guess it now takes an extra 45 minutes to get a burger well done. When it came out , it was not good at all. People came and went before we got served. They did comp the Burger because it took a couple of days before we were served. It had a cinnamon cream sauce with apples, spinach, cranberries and chicken. Boyfriend got the pot pie and he ate the entire thing. It came in a cast iron skillet. The meal stayed steaming hot the whole time. The watermelon splash is usually my go to but tonight it was more like orange juice than anything. Had a wonderful dinner on the patio this evening. Had a short wait for a table but was eventually seated in Caroline's section. The indoor patio is nice and spaced out well. It's also open so there's some good ventilation but also shaded. The extensive menu is arguably too big but I enjoyed both my French onion soup ($8.50) and my Caesar salad ($11.50). My wife's house burger was good, nicely cooked, and came with tots. My kid devoured her hot dog while playing with the crayons they provided. They also have some daily specials and some craft beer although they don't really have a dedicated craft beer menu, but they only list it as seasonal on the menu which is a bummer and kind of a hassle having to ask. My husband and I went there tonight on our way home from Christmas shopping. I ordered Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and baby carrots, and a ginger ale. My husband got a Dublin Wrap with fries. The only reason I mentioned the ginger ale is because it came to my table flat. This is a pretty specific review, so take it with a grain of salt. Was really craving some good fish & chips and didn't want to sit outside (or I would have tried the Lobster Barn) or travel too far from home (or I might have gone to Plymouth). Had never been to the Ale House, so I figured that they might do a good job on a dish like fish & chips. Stopped in during the U.S. Open weekend to enjoy my lunch craving and watch golf on TV. Service was pleasant and prompt, and they had golf on TV right in front of me - my trip was off to a smashing start! Food arrived in an average amount of time, and I dug right in. I was stunned by the blandness of the fries and the fish - I had to put far too much salt on my fries to get any flavor whatsoever. The fish was super "meh", and the tartar sauce was also "meh". The cole slaw they served on the side was just a waste of space and also didn't have any overwhelming flavor (I left it mostly uneaten).
