Like others, I was ghosted. Lee and I connected twice vocally over the phone - the rest were texts as seen in the photos. He seemed very knowledgeable, affable, and I looked forward to working with him. In the initial phone conversation said he might be out in the next 2 days, but definitely within a week, and took down my contact information and address. A week later, I called and he said to text him with my address again as he was driving so that he could be reminded. I still didn't get an appointment. I texted a week later asking for an appointment - he just texted back apologizing for how busy he was. A week later, I texted and asked if I could just be added to their book for an appointment and didn't hear a response. I understand being a 1-man show and that things are busy. However, there are many tools and apps that can help you manage your time, schedule, and calls to help provide a better service and stay organized. This soft skill goes a long way to not only giving you peace of mind but for you to actually operate in a professional manner. Our home had smoke emitting into the house from the chimney inside of the house by the wood stove. We previously had a "chimney" clean in the fall but they specialized in vent cleaning and did not do chimney sweep and yearly inspection. We scheduled Lee and he had an opening in 2 days. He was knowledgeable, replaced the top of the chimney, did a sweep on our metal roof and resolved the problem. I chose to call ABL Chimney Sweep because they clean Pellet Stoves in addition to other types of heating stoves and fireplaces. Not everyone cleans pellet stoves and ABL knows what they are doing! This father son team is just super. They got right back to me and scheduled an appointment a few weeks away. Now when someone is this good, they are busy so you may have to wait a bit for them to come. Be assured that the wait is worth it. They got right down to cleaning the stove and chimney and in about an hour, the stove was heating like it did when new. The price was about standard for the service performed. As I sit beside a roaring fire in our house in South Lake Tahoe, I'm reminded that we owe it all to Lee Squire of ABL Chimney Sweep. Lee is professional, responsive, reasonable, enthusiastic, personable, and just an all-round nice guy. When I called him last winter to try and correct a situation (my dear departed mother-in-law had corrupted a large stone fireplace by the insertion of a horrendous stove-type apparatus, which had been subsequently yanked out, in the process destroying the flue), we weren't sure what to do. Our attempt at building a fire resulted in smoke billowing into the room, and multiple calls to a recommended Reno-based chimney sweep went unanswered, as did the emails sent through their website. After nosing around on Yelp I found ABL, and left a message. Lee called back the same day, and said to be in touch after the snow melted. When I checked back in he made a plan to come to the house, and quickly diagnosed the problem and proposed a solution. Once the parts were in he returned and did all the necessary work. Because of the recent fires in South Lake Tahoe we have not been able to visit for August or September, nor would we have attempted to build a fire until conditions were under control. Well, it's October now, a beautiful crisp and drizzly day, and sitting beside this gorgeous fire (and no smoke!) I'm reminded that we owe it all to Lee. I had an issue last night with my fireplace insert; smoke from the fire log was not venting up the flume. Called ABL and spoke to Lee, the owner. He was on another job, but called back and fit me in for service an hour later. Lee and his son Chris came over on the same day, cleaned out duct( which we hadn't cleaned since we built the house in 1984). It was filthy. They cleaned it in about an hour. No mess. No big machinery. And at a very reasonable price. Pleasant, easygoing Father/Son team. Beautifully maintained service truck. Everything was professional. And fast. The fireplace works perfectly. ABL was able to schedule me about two weeks out. My flue and pellet stove were both cleaned and inspected. No issues! He was efficient. My only complaint is that he showed up an hour and a half earlier than our scheduled time. He did try to call, but the number I'd given him wasn't working, and I'm glad he showed up anyway. read more
