I have been to my fare share of rooftop venues in my time. I've experienced the good and the bad. Unfortunately Above Rooftop should come down from their loft and listen to people's opinions on the street. First off I know it's Staten Island and that speaks volume unto itself but I came in with an open mind as soon as I found out I was going to visit after my cousin's wedding. Because I was staying at the hotel literally next door I wasn't worried about figuring out how to get home. This a plus for this place but alas that seems to be the only thing going for it. First off it's nearly impossible to get into this rooftop without waiting in some ridiculous line. After dancing for the better half of the night at the wedding the last thing I wanted to do was wait in some line to wade into a pool of party revelers who probably have spilled enough drinks on the floor to give Harrah's Pool After Dark in Atlantic City a run for it's money as a premier party pool club destination! Then at least for this particular night some drunk fist-pumping re...ahem special people ruined the vibe by causing trouble at what is suppose to be a classy venue. The DJ was doing his best to keep the party going but I feel like he was trying to fuse EDM and hip hop nights together...which should never be done! I do have to give a nod to the view though but it still doesn't compare to the ones you get in NYC, Vegas, LA, or Washington. Call me a stickler if you want to but I need a rooftop to blow me away. Unfortunately I didn't even feel a breeze and decided to leave as soon as possible. Above Rooftop has so much potential I have to admit. It just wasn't my scene that night. Honestly I had a good time at Above but the drinking glasses were SO FILTHY!! I didn't notice until after i had a few sips and a few days later I was sick. GROSS. That was the second time I went there and was served filthy glasses. It's not just one or two dirty glasses....all of them are filthy....my friends and I were so grossed out. I went there Friday and by Sunday I was sick and I'm still sick and I'm blaming those filthy glasses. YUCK!!!!! read more

I used to like this place. Very nice decor. However, this past Thursday 6/26/14 a few colleagues and I came over after our school's graduation ceremony. We just wanted some drinks to celebrate the end of the school year. It was 8 of us. It was about 7:55 and a few if us were still arriving from CSI. We were told that it would be a $10.00 cover charge starting at 8:00 pm and we could not reserve free entry for the 2 people that didn't arrive yet. Firstly, a cover charge on a Thursday night??? Not a holiday or cinco de mayo... Secondly, a cover charge that starts at 8:00pm???? That's even crazier! Even if it was a "club" evening, who starts charginga cover at 8? This place must be realllllly pressed to make a buck. Anyway, we went next door to the hotel restaurant Lorenzo's and spent almost 300 on drinks and bar food. We had a great time and we didn't have to pay just to get in to buy food and drinks. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this venue. The guy literally starting charging the women who ran in from the parking lot at 8:01.... Smh. Beautiful decor and spacious area, I love the huge bar area and designing of all different bottles of liquor on the wall with the different color lightening behind it. The DJ was awesome that night. You don't have the best view of the city or much but the inside is really nice and even the restroom. The drinks are pricey like city prices and I feel mine were not as strong the cups are small too for the price of the drink which can start off at $14. I danced all night in which they really don't have a dance floor you just pick a spot and dance because the center of the room is where there's tables and couches for people who are having bottle services. Overall I had a good time with my girlfriends, defiantly a Staten Island crowd but not as many jersey shore look a likes more older crowd. The line is forever outside so I suggest having bottle service, knowing someone or having a pretty group of girls to get in. read more

Dont go there if you are a guy that doesnt know the bouncers. They will walk past you and take every other girl in and let any guy in that they are friends with and leave you standing there like a fool. Over price...snobby attitudes... Either go to the city for a real lounge or hit up a casual bar in staten island for a better time. read more

Ok so when this first place first opened i would have gave it 5 stars but let me explain why i give it 1 star .. This past friday i went to above and i couldn't believe how disorganized the staff and security was. It was about 10 degrees outside and they had a whole bunch of people waiting outside to get in regardless if you were on a list or not. On top of waiting outside in the cold they have about 4 doors to get into the place and they were only using one for people that were entering, exiting, people who were staying in the hotel, and people who were part of a party on another floor. It was total chaos and very unprofessional. I kept asking who was in charge of everything and nobody seemed to know anything. You had people cutting the line to get in faster as security was taking random people off the line if they knew somebody who was already in. All and all it took a good hour to get into the place and then we went to check our coats and there was another line. Place should be called LiNES because i felt every time i needed to get some where there was a line.. I have been to Above plenty of times in the past 2 years and i have never experienced it like this before. Did i mention that this place ran out of CUPS and SHOt GlASSES .. is it not part of a hotel i couldn't believe that the bartenders were actually re using shot glasses that people drank out of numerous amounts of times to stay busy.. I have never in my life drank at a fancy place like this out of a Styrofoam cup until friday night! After all of the advertising they did for the cylo reunion party with a live performance by Reina they clearly were not prepared at all ! This place obviously needs to get it together because i could tell you this much i am not the only person who feels the way! read more

This place is hot!! It is absolutely NOT what you would expect on Staten Island. The decor is out of this world!! When it is 50 degrees or above, they open the roof top. It's close to roof top parties I have been to in NYC. The bartenders do an amazing job taking your order rapidly and they make great drinks too. Staten Island, finally has a classy place where you can dress up and not look out of place. The food is a little pricey for the small amount you receive but if you eat first and come here for drinks, you will not be disappointed!! I also like the age range. Late 20's and over. And because it's upscale, the crowd is mature and respectful. The 2 times I went, there were no fights or people looking for trouble which for Staten Island, is very rare!! Dancing is more possible at a VIP table, this is more of a drinks place which is perfect for me!! read more

This is a pretty nice lounge. I went there once for my friends birthday. The place itself is very nice, it just isn't that big & gets crowded quick. It's more of a lounge then a club so there's no dance floor. The only thing I thought was silly was that they have not one, but three different people in the front checking you with a metal detector, then when you walk in someone checks your ID. You need to check your coat, which is mandatory which I also think is silly - but it's free so that's good. Then when we were ready to leave to get our coat, the guy yelled at us for "blocking" the coat check. I feel like I got checked less when I went to the white house. They make it seem like what they have going on over there. I understand they're trying to be "safe" but I think they take things a little too far. The crowd is mixed, younger & older. They have an outside which hopefully is a nice place to hang out in the summertime. read more

This past June we had our wedding ceremony and reception at the above, and it was amazing. We had a really attentive, organized and experienced wedding planner Jen and it made the process so much easier. The food, atmosphere, bar, view, private cabanas and attention to detail blew everyone's mind. It was a real casual wedding with all the thrills of a true traditional reception with a new flair. The ballroom was an amazing place to hold our ceremony and the above nightclub was our cocktail style buffet reception. Huge gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Nicotra, the kitchen/bar staff, our wedding planner Jen, and every one of our awesome vendors for giving us the wedding of our dreams. I am so happy we decided to get married at Above! It is a modern and sophisticated space with an amazing staff. The Chef (Frank Lombardi) is definitely a leader in his field and managed to customize their modern fusion menu to meet my big fat Italian family's needs! Our wedding celebration was on November 8, 2015. From start to finish i cannot stress how wonderful the owners and staff at Hilton Garden Inn were. Our sales associate Jennifer Finch was always available and was and amazing help. On the Day of the party each and every staff member made our day and amazing one, from Jennifer and the Matre De and our bridal assistant, bartenders and Dj. Absolutely terrible place. The "bouncers" searched my bag as if I were a criminal, while they smelled like alocohol. I then had to wait on a line for 20 minutes, only to be told that they weren't letting anyone else in. The incredibly unprofessional bouncers were completely rude and nasty. We finally got inside, and every single individual working in that place was nasty and snobby. There is not one single person that I had an encounter with that was nice, or even welcoming. The drinks are over priced, and if you're a smoker: don't plan on smoking anywhere near the actual club. You must go down an elevator, out of the doors, and around the corner to smoke a cigarette... and you may not even be allowed back in. The male bouncers treat women as if they are lower individuals and it is a very uncomfortable place to be in. I must say that I expected much more from Mr. Nicotra, considering how well he treated Sandy survivors. The service is terrible, the employees are downright rude and the lounge leaves much to be desired. There is no room for dancing or enjoying yourself at all. Skip it... And make sure if you do go, you're dressed appropriately and know someone at the door... otherwise, you're not getting in. Period.
