The Woodridge branch of Abri Credit Union is a great place to do your banking. We have been their customer since they opened. The tellers are very efficient and friendly. I'm a big believer in credit unions, just not this one. Abri is totally lacking in any focus on members or good service. There is always some illogical reason why they can't provide whatever simple service you want. Voice mail messages go ignored. The employees act like they are in some kind of hostage situation and members are an annoying bother. Employees typically don't really understand credit union policies and procedures. Abri's interest and loan rates aren't that great--kind of weird for a credit union. Abri is more focused on pretending it is a commercial bank--not really the main point of a credit union--than a credit union formed for the benefit of citizen members. Your deposits aren't even federally insured! Abri was originally formed as a credit union for Argonne National Laboratory employees. Maybe members have become so accustomed to the arrogant and incompetent management at Argonne that they accept it at their credit union? There are many other choices for credit unions in the Chicago area, go with one of them! read more

After 25 years of doing business with these people (since they were just the Argonne National Lab CU), I have just about had it. Of course, there are much worse alternatives.... Banks. Few if any ATMs use their card without a fee, and almost zero take deposits. They are now charging $3/mo to get a printed statement if you also have online access. WTF? Their Visa card stopped giving cash back a couple years ago. The whole premise of a Credit Union is no-fee banking owned by the depositors. Obviously loan interest alone isn't covering someone's salary so now they're starting to act more like a bank. Maybe I can find a better Credit Union. read more

Jamie Hogue walked me through the application step-by-step, every email was responded to within hours, and everything was explained to me in simple, straight forward terms that where easy to understand. When it came to the closing Kim Crossman was extraordinary! Even the builder commented on how communicative she was, and that they had never received a clear-to-close as quickly as they did with her. My family has been banking at Abri Credit Union for over 20 years. I was buying a car from my brother who had a loan at Abri. I had a cashier's check made & drove the hour and half to meet my brother at the Romeoville location. Once we arrived the loan officer told us that the check would need to be put on a 10 day hold while they waited for the funds to clear - I am used to this since I have been a loan officer at a credit union and a bank I am aware of the protocols - we asked if there was anyway they could verify funds since it was a local financial institution that issued the check & because of how far away we live we were hoping to leave with the title. They would not verify the funds. Alright, so where is the title going to be sent? WELL THEY WILL MAIL IT TO MY FI & MY BROTHER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO THEN DRIVE 1.5HRS TO MY CU TO SIGN & RELEASE THE TITLE TO ME. That's ridiculous. Can we at least have my brother sign the title now so that when the check clears and the title gets sent to me he doesn't have to drive that far? No they couldn't do that. So we left infuriated. Then once they mailed the title about 3 weeks later they sent it to my brothers address, which seems like what we wanted right? Well on the back of the cashiers check was a stamp from my lien holder requiring them to mail the title to my FI. Amidst all this happening Covid-19 has broken out so all DMV's are closed until further notice; I was not able to even receive the title until about a week after the close down. So if i were not buying a vehicle from family - the buyer could've been placed in a major legal snag. So after banking with Abri for over 20 years they were unable, NO, unwilling to work with us so that we could receive our title in a timely manner. This is not the loan officer's fault - this is a result of the back office. I know it's difficult, I have worked in a very busy CU but it seems like Abri's back office is forgetting that their members are people, people who live hectic lives, people who chose to bank at Abri because credit unions are supposed to be more member orientated than banks. This experience has shown that Abri is no better than banks that can be only accessed online. What is the point of a brick and mortar establishment if there is no wiggle room, no empathy for the hectic lives members are all living? I say this becaue I know for a fact there are many local credit unions that outshine Abri by far, please look for another FI to finance through; lower rates do not guarantee better service. read more

worse credit union every. how are you going to pay a merchant money that I have disputed. and then make me wait to get my money back. and it can take up to 90 days. If i dispute it, the merchant should not be paid until it is settled. also they try to charge a fee for bills paid which has not been disclosed. read more

My husband and I just left the romeoville branch and I can honestly say we will never be back. We are a mid to late _40s couple who are relocating to the naperville - Plainfield area. We own a home in Wisconsin that we are keeping and are looking to purchase a 2nd home here in Il. We placed an offer on a house today and were going into abri about some financing as our wi credit union doesn't provide mortgages in Illinois. We approached the teller as there was no one seated at the very large receptionist desk at the door. She was extremely pleasant. We explained that we were relocating to the area and wanted information about becoming a member...mortgage...etc. She informed us that she would be happy to get someone for us and to have a seat in the lobby area. We did. Within 5 minutes or so we were approached by a woman holding several sheets of paper and looking annoyed that we were there. She asked if we were the ones asking about a mortgage? We were the only people in the lobby mind you. My husband said yes, and I followed up with the fact that we were relocating to the area and had some questions. She said we do all applications on line and if Tim needs something he will let you know. She never asked our names, greeted us, introduced herself... Nothing! I was shocked. She even went so far as to say you just go online and read the little tabs at the top! How insulting. Not that she even took the time to find out but my husband is VP at a very prominent company in naperville and has countless technical patents worldwide. He certainly didn't need to be schooled on how to utilize a website! We will not be back for such rude behavior! Abri needs to work on some customer service building IMHO! read more

This credit union has been nothing but helpful, reasonable and friendly. Since joining Abri Credit union they have helped me secure a small loan, which helped build my credit, their receptionist always greet me, their tellers and officers are very friendly and helpful. They allow at least two FREE overdrafts a month. Although after transferring to the credit union I have since stopped using the 'savings' portion to avoid overdrafts all together, and learned to better manage my finances. Anywhere there is a 7-11 there is an Abri Credit Union ATM. The best part is this credit union actually pays me to bank with them. Rather than the pathetic interest rate banks typically kick back to customers accounts, Abri currently gives 1% dividend. Join this credit union and you will be glad you did. They also have many branches throughout the area. I switched to this Credit Union from PNC Bank. And I will never go back to a traditional bank ever again. PNC Bank charged me fee after fee for my own money! When I was less financially responsible, I would have an occasion overdraft once or twice a month. By the time I had closed my account PNC Bank had stolen, (I consider overdraft fees theft, since it's a simple electronic account transfer that requires zero human labor) over 75 dollars. read more

as a new customer I'm very disappointed with the service - the individuals working there are nice but not very accommodating due to bank policies - given that both my wife and myself have fairly large accounts I was quite puzzled when we were refused in cashing a City of Crest Hill check payable to both of us for a whopping sum of $73.44 - and that my wife could not even deposit it to her account because it was not a joint account. After speaking with the manager he did relent and deposited it to my wife's account but would not cash it. We opened the accounts for convenience since its so close to home - but there are other local banks and financial institutions that are more highly rated and worth checking out. read more

Since the Argonne Credit Union became "Abri" the security measures required to do online banking have gotten ridiculous. Most of the time I am required to wait for a text message with a code to enter into the website to prove that I am the account holder - and this is AFTER I enter my user name and pin. Today I had to pick five security questions for them to use to grill me in the future. I found ONE question in the list that I could truthfully think of an answer for - I had to use a fake reply for the rest of the questions. I have no problem with the people at the branches - they're always friendly and competent. Unfortunately, most of what I do is online, and I'm probably going to pull my money out of the CU soon because I'm tired of the security overkill. Answer questions and wait for a code just to see what my balance is? Really? read more

Well that excitement can easily turn into frustration and headaches without the right bank and lenders. After having a difficult time with my first home purchase years ago, I really wasn't looking forward to dealing with banks with my forever home purchase. Luckily I was introduced to Jamie Hogue VP or Real Estate at Abri Credit Union. Jamie and his team including Kim Crossman walked us through each step of the process from start to finish, explaining each step in a way that people who are not in the banking / real estate industry could understand. Jamie understood how big of a purchase this was for us, understood our frustrations and helped us leave every conversation more knowledgeable and relieved. Jamie also answered all my emails and text in a reasonable time and returned my calls promptly which is something you don't see often. I could not have asked for a better team assisting me in my purchase, and I'm happy to call Abri Credit Union my Bank of Choice. This business is stuck in the '80s. Their communication is horrible. I only joined to get a car loan and after fighting with them about changing the billing address (I moved to Colorado), they required me to do everything using FAX.. Really? People still use those!?!? Anyway, I was fed up, so I just paid the remainder of the loan to be done with them.. and of course, to get my title.. I need to FAX them.. Anyway, I just received a notice that they charged my account a "Miscellaneous debt inactivity fee" for the remainder of my balance so they could close my account. So yeah.. they stole from me. Seems like a reputable company that customers should trust their money with.. or maybe not. read more

ACU has turned so bureaucratic and impersonal. Their customer service emails look like they are written by a robot. I've been a member of ACU for 39 yrs (but will be leaving soon as they find my $64K in lost funds that they are very unhelpful tracking down). I'm retired and now in Calif. Every spring I get a check from ANL, processed thru ANL's operator, U. of Chicago. ACU told me when I moved, ACU is a member of a vast CU network and I can deposit $ to any member CU. I've done so for years. My deposited funds would get an automatic 5-day hold, which is fine. But for the annual ANL checks, I would send a note saying this is an ANL check from UofC, then a human in the ACU would make a call to the Budget Dir of UofC and confirm that those funds under that check number really went to me, and the auto-hold would get released in 5 minutes. Now they are impersonal and bureaucratic and will not release my funds to me until the paper check gets to them via the CU network. It was deposited into the CU network 7 days ago. ACU's "robot" emails say the check is not "lost". But even though it was photocopied front&back by the CU teller I deposited it with, and even though the Budget Dir of UC will verify that is the check that was issued to me and ANL/UC has the funds to cover it, the check is somewhere "in the network". Comforting to know that my deposited $64K is "not lost" but somewhere in the CU network and no ACU humans know where nor will they help track it down. Even though I've been a loyal member and done all my banking with ACU since 1977, and financed 30 cars with ACU over that time, and never had one deposited check ever bounce (and this isn't a personal check from Nigeria...it is official ANL $ issued by UofC), , now they treat me with obnoxious 2-sentence robot emails and tell me my money isn't lost but nobody knows where it is, so I cannot use it until they find where it is and "have a nice day". Since ANL-CU merged with Abri CU, their customer service has become disgusting. read more
