Well, I went in for an entryway table (aka a catch-all table for next to the front door of my condo) and I found something I loved that wasn't quite the right size. Shari immediately reached out to the maker of the piece, and now I am getting one from her that is custom fit for my home! She has lots of beautiful pieces in the store, but if you don't see what you're looking for, be sure to ask about it. Odds are, if it's not in stock, Shari (or any of her employees) can probably help you find or build it. In addition to shirts, earrings, and furniture, Recycled Modern has a nice collection of beautiful wall art, and plenty of vintage glasses frames to try on (along with the option to order your own lenses to fit, for those who are basically blind without glasses like myself). Plus, candles! And as far as I could tell, any of the new items were all made by independent (largely local) makers. Vintage items sourced from all over. Just go. What else are you going to do. They are excepting returns/exchange which is great because the knife set I picked up was not in the best condition. SN: The return/exchange line is seperated from each other. Now for the important part you have to wear a mask, social distantings is in place but some customers don't follow the rules. They have hand sanitizer in the front of the store and there was one at my register. They only allow a certain amount of people in the store at a time and they wipe down the carts. The dressing room is closed but you can return for now if it doesn't fit. The employees I interacted with very nice and with the two I talked to you could see their smile through their mask...I mean one of them did have a mask with a smile imprinted on it but was only a positive. Apparently the plate glass windows in front were crashed and there is some business going on with insurance, etc. I hope she's covered for all the business lost as well as damage. Maybe she'll post on her website when they re-open. I live far away and don't want to drive over and find the store is still shuttered. Wish all the staff good luck with getting things back together. In honor of women's history month, I would like to shine the spot light on this very cool shop in…read morethe Pilsen neighborhood. Also, I would like to thank all of the people that have come out to support businesses in this area that were hit hard by the current political climate in Washington D.C. At the height of violence in our streets I tried to do my best by supporting some of these businesses. During this phase 18th street looked like a ghost town on a Saturday. Normally on a Saturday in this neighborhood has people teeming everywhere and the smell of an asado in the air (Yum). Having time off and having an asado is the perfect way to relax and spend time with your family. Plus, who doesn't like the smell of an asado? Well during this time period I found this shop that I thought had some really cool and unique stuff. Also, you may notice that they have a fair amount of stuff with the famous Hulu's The Bear line, "Yes Chef, No Chef" on it. If you are a fan of the show like I am, then, the interior will look familiar to you because it was in a seen on the show (I think it was season 3). I immediately recognized the store and thought to myself "cool" and great choice. Anyhow, if you find yourself in the area, pop in and check it out. They are very selective as to which artists around the country they want to buy from and in turn sell their products. Maybe you will find that one unique thing that you have been looking for that you didn't realize you need. I mean, you never know unless you check it out. Spent $35 just to be told they "do not have a bathroom" while visually staring at the bathroom sign????? I walked up to the bathroom door and saw it needed a code, when checking out, I asked for the code. I was told "we don't have a bathroom"???? Almost put my stuff back after I was told they did not have a bathroom. I was in the building on a different assignment and decided to take a look inside out of curiosity. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was a selection of items of nice quality and variety. They offer costume, semiprecious and some fine jewelry, as well as bags and scarves. The prices for the jewelry are moderate and not reflective of extremely fine jewelry, so it strikes a happy balance. The shop owner was quiet and pleasant enough. I don't think I'll be here often necessarily, but it is nice to know that there is a source in the area for quality jewelry.
