I have come to events on campus many times over the years, but my most recent visit was eye-catching. Significant resources have been poured into the campus as new buildings and grand refurbishments and renovations continue apace. This should be the norm for all HBCUs around the country. It is a testament to the value the state places on its universities, although the level of investment pales in comparison to College Park. The quad is the envy of other schools, some with higher endowments, tuitions, and budgets. It is big enough that it feels like a university but still small enough to feel like home. My favorite feature/building/concept is the Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community (ELLC). Home to students who want to be entrepreneurs, here they live (brand new dorms), eat, and learn (classrooms and other spaces). There is a business and creative synergy that is self evident all throughout the space. I took a cohort of school age mentees for a tour and lunch at BSU. They were over-the-moon about the Student Center Dining Hall's food and modern decor. The food choices included fresh vegetables and fruits, custom made salads and bowls, hand crafted pizza, grilled to order items, and high quality rotating items from a self-serve bar. The seating area had huge windows where the sunlight shone through. The academic and recreational buildings were top tier. But what struck me most was the energy, passion, and intelligence of the students and faculty. They treated my mentees like little brothers coming to campus to learn from older siblings. The students seemed supportive of each other. D9 organizations got along too., but the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. always raise the bar. Bowie State University should be proud of the work they continue to do and the student needs they continue to meet. Five stars easily earned!

It is an impressive campus with a diverse community of students and faculty. Our campus guide was a sophomore, she was an adequate enough guide. We were able to see the Terps baseball team practicing and getting ready for next season. This is a Division 1 (D1) school, the top echelon of school sports. The football stadium ranks up there with a few NFL stadiums. The stadium seats 46,185 and if you're into college football you know that doesn't include standing room. As we traveled from building to building there were so many students encounters going about their daily routines, students in classes, students studying in lounge areas students lifting weights, students working out and students just relaxing in the lawn. Once again I was impressed with the 8 libraries on campus. The school is in the process a building new dorm buildings and the few they have already finished look very impressive. Now the older ones not so much. A lot of the older ones had window ac's and again a lot didn't. This tour was very informative and my grandson was impressed however he's still weighing his options. He had already toured 2 other universities. Also the ride from NY to College park Md. is 4 1/2 hours so not too bad of a drive.

Be sure to get your car registered, or park in a visitors spot and pay it. If not expect agony. Yet I'd like to focus on this campus, as I spent some time rediscovering where I went when I had hair. There have been a lot of changes, but much is the same. Friendly easy going campus, and the pond out front is as pretty as ever. What I liked about this and all campuses of NVCC, is that your professors had real world experience. They weren't some frumpy tenured person, who enjoyed adding their brilliance to the new expensive class book. Here most of my instructors were assistant FBI directors, or high up in public safety agencies. They taught so you'd learn and remember, as while test taking can be important, retention is the best indicator of an education. Have gone to other schools, but this one is a friendly place for all to learn. Am a big supporter of this and other community colleges.

THINK TWICE For the…read moreprice of this so called "experience" take your money and plan your own trip to Washington DC. Envision claims to provide classes for high scholars and and a once in a life time experience. One of the only enjoyable parts of this trip was the wounded warrior project and the ability to get access to U.S government buildings, but in my option was not worth the hefty price tag of $3k. The staff was very rude and disrespectful rewords me. When asked simple questions of how to get somewhere, or what the schedule is they would give you dirty looks or make it seem as if you were hassling them. I had two situations that required me to talk to the office and both time I went they cut me off when talking or told me to figure it out on my own. However I must give credit to my group leader as she was amazing, kind and helpful towards all of the students. The NSAM meeting I found useless as we did basic middle school history work. The other "learning" events were alright but again I didn't learn much from this experience. We had meals at the university of Maryland's dining hall. While eating one of my group members found fingernails in their pie, which the university claims were onions, it's safe to say I stayed away from the pie after that. It gets worse though. While on a trip into DC I witnessed a an older staff member around 60/70 I'd say, buy a box of Trojan condoms, triple bag them at self checkout than put them in his jacket after paying. Later that night I was walking in the hall to return to my room as I saw this man slap a younger ( approx. 25 ) female staff member on her bottom. Through the week they continued to display PDA's. And on the last day we witnessed them purchase condoms again on the last day. Never the less I wasn't expecting to see this on my "once in a lifetime experience." Overall this was an odd week and and make me wonder why I came here in the first place.

The campus is probably the biggest of the DC colleges and is almost as nice as Georgetown's. There are several excellent departments there: politics, architecture, music/drama and there's the law school. Socially, the place is loaded with Irish Catholics from the Boston-DC corridor with a large contingent from New Orleans so this can mean only one thing: lots of boozin'! And with a Metro stop right at the campus you can get practically anywhere in town in minutes. The campus and the Brookland neighborhood are much improved since my time there which only made me want to give CUA a higher rating.
