On one hand, I can't really review this hotel. While on another, I want to warn others of what may occur if you choose to make a reservation here. I had a reservation, made 5 months ago, to stay for an important personal event. I specifically chose this location because of proximity to my needs. Upon my arrival, about an hour after check in is allowed, I was told by front desk staff that my reservation had been moved to another hotel (a completely different hotel chain). And, hadn't I received my notification? No, I had not received anything of the sort. Very stressful. (No one cared in the slightest at the AC Marriott.) Because I was moved without my knowledge or consent, AC Marriott covered the cost of the 1st night of my booking. Ok, great. Of course, I immediately contacted Marriott customer service. As I no longer, past that evening, had a place to stay. While customer service was clear on Marriott policy, she was not particularly empathetic to my situation. Brushing it off more as, "these things happen". And, explaining we overbook all the time. It usually isn't a problem. (Well, it was a problem for me at that point in time.) Also, it was specifically stated to me directly that it doesn't matter if I'm a bonvoy member or not because it's a free loyalty program, so why would I matter. While it's true Marriott did their part within the contract to honor the 1st night of my reservation, it was poorly handled by Marriott. This isn't treating your clients well. The other major brand name hotel (not a Marriott property, take your own guess) staff explained the situation much more clearly & were far more helpful in the stressful situation caused by Marriott's poor business practices. Take your chances booking here. Good luck. I will certainly never book this location ever again. And, honestly may no longer choose to use Marriott in my travel. read more

I staid here on Friday October 24th and I checked in around 9:45pm. I wish I got the receptionist name and the name of another girl who helped me they were so wonderful. I was so out of it by the time I check in since I had such a long day that I forgot to ask for her name or look at her name tag. I just wanted to check in when I got to the hotel, get my stuff from my car, get a drink and wake up the next morning at 5am to get ready to go to an event. Shout out to the receptionist and the girl who was stocking the drinks that night..they were SUPER NICE to me and provided me exceptional service. I felt welcomed and taken care of even though I was only staying overnight. They made my very long day wonderful..their kindness meant a lot to me. read more

Gorgeous Hotel. Everything I love in an AC hotel. Minimalistic. Clean and contemporary. I ate at the bar the first night there and it was delicious! My cocktail was nice and stiff. I was upgraded with a high level street view. The front desk guy gave me great tips on taking the train to San Francisco and we did just that! It was perfect. Valet was expensive but worth it. Tip: don't leave anything in your car, there have been break ins in San Fran so I didn't want to take any chances in Oakland. Had breakfast in the morning that was complimentary. It was ok. Needed a 2-night local getaway while renovating work was being done on our loft, so decided to give AC Hotel a try. Overall very happy with my decision and stay, with just one reservation. A conference in Oakland during the week of my stay made hotel availability scarce, and correspondingly, drove the base rate for a nights stay way up. But I feel like even with the higher rate, the price matched the experience. AC Hotel is located a couple of streets off the main Oakland downtown hub of Broadway. The area is safe enough during the day, but at night can feel sketch. The security at the door out front 24-7 should be a tip off to that. The lobby area doesn't feel like a typical Marriott hotel... more like you're entering an office or apartment complex. It's a very minimalist, clean, and modern vibe. There's a check in desk to the right, a small bar/lounge behind a partition to the left, and a wall of elevators between them. Check in was easy and uneventful, though I think you can skip the physical check in by using the Marriott app to obtain a virtual key. I have mobility issues, so my request for an accessible room was honored at check in. And I was super pleased that my front desk attendant found me a walk-in shower, king bed room on the very top floor with absolutely spectacular views of west Oakland and the SF skyline. The room was spotless and comfy, and decor is also minimalist and clean... typical Marriott mattress on a platform, desk and rolling chair, built in luggage bench/seat, huge flatscreen TV with cable and streaming, a clothes rack and a couple of drawers, safe, and coffee maker. My windows were huge and featured manual sheer blinds as well as a blackout blind if you prefer a pitch black room. The bathroom was spacious, modern and minimalist with a rolling glass door, walk in shower with a seat, multiple lighting options, and stylish sink and toilet. Soaps, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are all provided. The bed was super comfy and sheets/duvet are your typical Marriott luxury. I would have preferred a somewhat firmer bed, but it was still a good nights sleep. My room rate included a free buffet breakfast each morning. And as a a Marriott member you get free high speed WiFi. So where's the downside? Despite having the AC running at night, the smell of whatever the kitchens were cooking would waft into the venting system around 7pm to 9pm each night. Like clockwork. Not a noxious smell, but enough such that it was like someone was cooking in the room. There are two dining options in the hotel... a cafe and a Spanish tapas option. So I'm just guessing somehow the kitchen vents co-mingle with the room HVAC system. Was that enough to make me not return? Not at all! I'd happily stay with AC Hotel again. But I'll def book when the rates aren't as gouging due to conferences in town. And really want to hang in the very inviting lobby lounge next time. read more

Stayed here with two friends. Nice hotel, clean, attentive staff. No main issues. It is downtown so I wouldn't try to park my car on my own. We used the valet and there's In-N-Out privileges. Breakfast is included and there's several options from Turkey and pork sausage, waffles, eggs, hashbrowns, oatmeal, cereals, breads you know, continental style. Three things I did not like about this hotel were that the beds are small- I don't think they're queens. Maybe a full. Rooms are small and the bathroom has an opaque sliding door that does nothing to hide any sounds. I'd rather a regular door for better privacy. I would not have three adults in this room again. 2 max and a small child or 2. but if you're only here for a quick stay like I was it could still be perfect. read more

THE BREAKFAST: Great selection of healthy and my-kind-of comfort breakfast. (Lord, if I could only figure out how they prepare the scrambled eggs!) The not-so-good: frequency (or, more accurately, infrequency) of HOUSEKEEPING leaves one feeling like one lives on a NYC street. The bad: the GUEST LAUNDRY PAYMENT APP. you have no options. It is an app-driven exchange that is cumbersome at best. That the app forces a user to transfer 5 times as much money as one needs smacks of high tech pickpocketing. Seriously. That app SUCKS. THE BATHROOM DOOR. really poorly thought through. Sliding glass saves space. I get it. But that the door rattles long after attempting to open/close means midnight relief also means waking whoever is in the room ( and the rooms contiguous). Not a borderline criminal as the laundry robo-pickpocket, but still incredibly dumb. LACK OF PARKING. WAY overpriced - especially for downtown oakland. read more

Great hotel stay. Came to Oakland for a basketball tournament. The guy at the front desk was super sweet. Requested a room on the upper floors so noise wouldn't be an issue. He put us in a room on the 17th floor. The room was clean and had everything we needed. My only issue with the room was that the bathroom door lacked privacy. Breakfast was included and it was delicious and fresh every morning. The hotel had a very nice floor plan and lobby. I love that there was a nice water dispenser with ice on our floor. There is a microwave and lots of tables on the second floor as well as a gym. This was great for us cause we did reheat our leftovers one night. The valet is the only thing that sucks. You have to valet because the streets are so janky. The valet driver smoked pot in our car and it wreaked the whole weekend. Also, spent over $100 on just the valet for 1 weekend. read more

The only downside is the valet driver scooted the seat really close to the stirring wheel and I hit my knee getting in. It was super painful but not enough to deduct a star. Room was small very modern, studio like. Hardly zero room for a "closet" or clothing storage. AC was weak and fan hardly circulated. Luckily I travel with a potable fan. Housekeeping is only every other day, I stayed 12 nights. Working a 2nd shift schedule I requested housekeeping for 3PM on the days to be done as I would leave at 2:30PM. Confirmed this was not a problem time at the desk. Checked in on a Sunday, did not get first house keeping done until following SAT. Zero compensation by the hotel. read more

It was in walking distance to a lot of things in the area the parking was ridiculous they charge 50$ plus tax which is an additional 10$ a night for parking. We had issues with the blinds not going down more than half the time we were there so basically people were getting a free show if they were able to see us from a different building. On the day after we arrived the bathtub started leaking into the room that was under us so my daughter was the only one out of the four that was able to take a shower it was also making a weird noise like the tub was gonna fall through the ceiling. I have had the pleasure of staying at the AC hotel Oakland about seven times now. When I do have reasons to stay in the downtown Oakland area this is my preferred place. The first thing I'll note is The very friendly helpful warm service I've received from two hospitality professionals in the front named Jason and Carolina. They've always been very helpful in helping me check in., understand the various benefits of my stay, and have always done so in great spirits. So kudos to them. I also very much enjoy the included breakfast, which is definitely more than other hotels I've stayed at are offering. The gym has free weights, treadmills, and a multipurpose workout machine with cable pulleys . I also enjoy that they can make craft cocktails in their lobby and the kitchen has a Spanish tapas inspired menu. Finally, the rooms are very modern, comfortable, spacious. And I enjoy the views of downtown Oakland. Overall, just a great experience. Thank you again to Jason and Carolina. read more

Went to an event at the Fox theater. We wanted to stay nearby in this hotel was an option. Things that I liked. Staff was exceptional. The hotel was super clean. I like that you have to use your room key to go up the elevator. As a matter of fact, you have to use your room key to move between floors. I found that a nice safety feature. Valet was great. In and out privileges and it took about 10 minutes to get our car in the middle of the night. It was nice and quiet. Oh, the breakfast was excellent. Especially for a free breakfast. They had scrambled eggs, sausage, pastries, oatmeal, fruit, everything was stocked, and we got there at eight. I did not like the neighborhood. But I knew that going in. It's downtown Oakland. I also didn't like the door to the bathroom is a sliding door that was glass. You really couldn't see through it, but you could see images. Stayed in Oakland for a few nights. The room was really large with a couch and desk. My husband and I both worked a half day from the room and had plenty of space. The beds seemed a bit small. The hotel was booked so we ended up having to stay in a double and the beds didn't seem to be a full. Hotel offers a standard continental breakfast. Don't get there too late as food seemed to run out early on a Friday morning. When we checked out we were billed again after paying in full online. The front desk was able to resolve quickly and were very attentive to the issue. After checkout we headed to SF. The hotel was a close walk to the bart and a very easy commute. read more

Re: 9/20/24 stay. Not to discount the experiences of others but we stayed because of proximity to Fox Theater. Walked to and from the theater on a Friday night and at no point felt unsafe. Perhaps the city is taking steps to revitalize downtown, as there was a visible security presence out and about. A huge variety of restaurants in a wide array of cuisines within a short walk was a huge plus. Hotel itself was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was more than I could hope for (I chose oatmeal and they had a huge buffet of topping options which was yummy and fun), and everyone was so friendly and helpful. (I would deduct a star for the horrible water pressure in the shower but I realize low-flow requirements are not necessarily their fault. Just glad I didn't need to wash my hair.) read more

I am not one to take to yelp and complain unless principals are involved. I have stayed at the AC Marriott Oakland six times. Daughter attends college locally and I travel out here often. My stays prior to today have not been "exceptional" but the stays have always been comfortable and the good outweighed the bad (for the sake of preserving the reputation of some of the staff, I'll reserve my comments) . My business partner and I checked in yesterday for a business retreat to work uninterrupted and side by side (sharing files, computer, etc.). Checked in, got situated in room and about an hour in, we noticed the AC wasn't working and room was hot and stuffy. Called front desk, who in turned called maintenance to come check out issue. Maintenance could not determine problem and found out the the HVAC issue effected all 2-bed suites (which is what I had) in hotel. Management and Maintenance was fully aware of the HVAC issue. They brought us two fans. Hotel staff offered to move us to two single rooms however, that would have defeated the entire purpose of us taking a retreat to work. I reserved one room for a reason. Long story short, my request to be compensated, for the first night only, due to the inconvenience of a stuffy room was denied by General Manager Oscar Mejia and Operations Manager Ada, whom were fully aware of the HVAC issues. Considering that I have been a Marriott Rewards member for years and a traveler who often chooses Marriott during my many travels, better customer service and grace could have been given. General Manager Oscar and Operations Manager Ada, your nonchalant attitude, unresponsiveness and absence on site while trying to rectify the situation is disappointing. The only way I could communicate during my stay was via the message feature on the app as you did not return my call or speak to me in person. I am scheduled to stay here this weekend and have a ton of family coming in April to stay - definitely changing the plans now! @Marriot, Check on your leadership at Residence Inn/AC Hotel Oakland. So not worth the cheap rates for the following reasons: 1) The neighborhood is unsafe. There are homeless people on every corner and it makes you certain not to park on the street. 2) The valet is the worst I've ever experienced. The attendants completely ignore you until you call for them and when you do, they roll their eyes and ask," what do you want? Want us to park your car or sometum?" They charge $50 for this and make you pay upfront. However, when getting your car back, they act like you didn't pay and hold your car hostage. The attendant had to "make sure" I paid by taking with the front desk and even they acted like I was being an inconvenience for simply asking for my car. 3) The rooms try way too hard to be modern. The toilets are square for no reason and the shower is hard to figure out. The coffee machine in my room didn't work and the bed felt dirty like the sheets hadn't been changed. Absolutely would never stay here again. First let's start off by saying the stay there is dangerous. There's no area to smoke, you have to literally stand on the corner outside the hotel like a sitting duck. Homeless everywhere. Heard things inside the walls like rats or mice. Our stereo system was stolen out the back of our suv, and we PAID VALET!!!!! For 4weeks and they haven't even came close to trying to refund us. Anything. After racking up a bill for a month you'd think they'd take that case a little more seriously, but hey I guess since it's in Oakland let's treat em like scum?! After being violated with zero compensation I'd say to you reading this, why stay here. There are so many other beautiful locations in the Bay Area. No need to waste money or time or your safety and we'll being. I'd recommend this hotel to enemies of mine and that's about it. Horrible management! read more

They have a bag/valet cart and it was so easy to use ( I was disabled and my arm was in a cast) Two showerheads a body one with a detachable head, which is really nice for varying heights and abilities. The second one is a rain shower head which has a woman of color I don't care for but it's a nice option. What they need to add is instructions because the controls for the different showerheads is not clear so I turned on the rain shower head when I was trying to turn off the other shower, so if they just had instructions, that would be helpful. Coffee makers in the room, but they need to have instructions for them hydration stations located on three of their floors Growth Areas No security in the elevator Parking is $50-extremely expensive There is a restaurant on site but the hours are very limited. Very limited restaurant menu . Their telephones are super small and the there is no speakerphone phone option They did not clean the room or provide towels the second day that I was there and we're not apologetic about missing my room for cleaning service. I am assuming that this is one of the kinks that they need to work out The bar is not well stocked, but the bartender was extremely nice They need floor length mirrors in the rooms (they do have them in the hallway on each floor near the elevators) Customer service is the difference between a 4 star and 3 star hotel...even in the same name brand hotel chain. This hotel needs to work on setting a clear standard of excellence in customer service and then hold staff accountable for upholding that standard. The hotel has only been open for days so every employee has the potential to be great the key is having supervisors managers who can instill the desire to be great continuously and consistently exemplify and create an understanding of what excellence looks like in customer service and be observant and invested enough to hold all employees accountable for maintaining that level of excellence. read more
