This is a fun updated hotel with very small square footage. The lobby is a bar/lounge integrated with the check in desk, making it unique and fun. The room was very small, but cozy and functional. We parked in a small lot across the street with chainlink fence around it. There's a lot of small restaurants and bars right across the street to check out. read more

I can't believe this hotel would deliberately delete negative reviews on Google to maintain a rating above four stars. So I decided to leave a review here instead. I stayed here last year on a solo trip and was treated extremely poorly and unfairly by a member of the hotel staff. I previously left a detailed review to share what happened, but that review has since been deleted. I contacted the management team directly, hoping for an apology and a reasonable resolution. Instead, management strongly defended the employee's rude behavior and refused to apologize. I then escalated the matter to upper management and was told that a solution would be provided. However, I never heard back from them. The way this situation was handled was deeply disappointing. Rather than taking responsibility for poor service and addressing a legitimate customer complaint, the hotel chose to defend its employee and apparently remove negative feedback. This experience has completely undermined my trust in the hotel and its reviews. read more

LOCATION & DECOR: In downtown Oakland on the corner of Grand avenue and telegraph avenue with a bit of street parking out front and a parking lot across the intersection. $45 a night for parking is quite expensive. The decor is colorful and trendy and modern. A very cool eclectic and youthful vibe with a bit of elegance to it. It's Urban culture meets hipster businessman or businesswoman or businessperson. FOOD & DRINK: -there is a full bar with alcoholic beverages -Pepsi Co products -flatbread -bagels in the morning SWAG/AMENITIES: -gym w/ punching bag, free weights and ellipticals -2nd floor outdoor balcony with heating lamps, a ping-pong table and ample seating -- non-smoking -arcade table -bar room games like chess, checkers, connect four and jumbo Jenga -snack bar -microwave and toaster -complimentary drip coffee and tea -stash closet for extra towels, blankets, tissue, toothbrush, toiletries STAFF & EXPERIENCE: Staff was very welcoming and friendly. This place would be much better if it have a sauna, hot tub or pool. It's location isn't the best as it's in a rough part of the city with not much to look at outside the windows. Not much they can do about that. The bar is fully stocked with alcohol, but lacking in the food department. You'll have to order out unless you can survive on some bare minimum unhealthy choices. My experience at this Moxy was ok. I've stayed at one in Chicago, which was great. And I also live a block away from one in Ohio. Needless to say I'm familiar with it, the size of rooms, etc. For the most part, its a fun quirky hotel, nothing fancy, but it has a vibe. Things started to go south from the moment I checked in. The lady that assisted me informed me that the only room they had available was up two flights of stairs and there's no elevator available so I would need to lug my heavy suitcase up there. I admittedly overpacked and having recently had surgery, I was in no position to carry 50 pounds up a bunch of stairs. When I said that I would need assistance with my suitcase, there was magically another room available. How convenient. When I got to that room and began to settle in, I quickly noticed an extremely loud humming sound coming from the cieling. I called down, they told me it would eventually stop, but after 10 minutes, I was over it. They then offered to put me in third room that was all of the sudden available, two doors down. When I was headed to the elevator to get my new key, I mentioned the sound to one of the staff members and they informed me that they've been reporting that issue for months. So here I am, I've been there less than 30 minutes, bounced around to now a third room, and it feels like they're just trying to give me the short end of the stick. It felt like I had a target on my back that said, let's give her all the shitty options, she won't complain. Aside from the crappy check-in experience, everything else went fine. The bed was comfy, I was able to connect to my Netflix on the TV, the wifi worked, and the bathroom was stocked with everything I needed. I'll end by sharing that the parking situation is a little weird. They don't have valet, but they do have parking for $40 a night across the street that's gated. The gentleman that look like they'd be valet out front, will meet you at the gate anytime you need your car. Kinda crazy for $40 a night. Have booked overnight stays here a couple times when in town for meetings or events in the downtown area. I appreciate the easy check-in at the bar with a free coin for a drink of your choice. The modern, sheik and multi purpose integrated lobby gives a vibe of community. The colors, paintings and furniture is unique and inviting by today's standards but the rooms are extremely small. I've stayed in a fair amount of hotels, these rooms are very minimum which I understand is what the aim is but I prefer a larger space. A couple of parking options, location, price, 24 hour gym, patio floor and flair are what gets the 4 stars. read more

The space is very artsy and funky throughout. I remember feeling kind of overwhelmed when I got to my hotel room on the 3rd floor - the floor, walls, and ceiling were all a deep jade green. The lobby area had lots of coworking space and areas for people to sit and hang out, plus a bar. Upon checking in, you get one free drink ticket. I was hoping to get a hot breakfast, but the morning I went to order, their oven was broken. They had a small convenience section where you could buy some pantry items for breakfast instead, which wasn't ideal but worked as a backup. The rooms themselves were very interesting - studio size and compact, with no closet, just hangers along the wall and spaces to store things under the bed. I appreciated how compact and space-saving the design was. The bathroom was a really neat space with modern design and fixtures. I appreciated that the soaps were actually good quality. So reading ahead of time some of the reviews I had mixed feelings. But we needed somewhere close to the Paramount Theater and this is literally 5 minutes away walking. It was a Tuesday night, so we got the room with a king size bed for pretty cheap. Around $120 for the night. It is Oakland, so having a parking lot to park your car that is gated and locked is def a plus. I didn't have to worry about any break ins as I've read it's been an issue in the city. There is security at the entrance, they did a great job being present and even saw them kick someone out who wasn't a guest. Workers were nice, bartender at night was super friendly and made some amazing drinks. He even created something for my wife since she's a picky drinker, and she loved it. Food is very limited, but we had the pizza and I will say it was amazing for just a bar pizza. Luckily DoorDash and Instacart can bring you anything you need directly to the hotel. Ambience and decor is awesome, really makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. There's music playing, couches to sit in, tons of games to play. Just a nice place to relax. Rooms are a little small, but the shower was huge, and for one night not a big deal. The rooms are definitely furnished for their size, almost all the space has a purpose. Okay hotel if you're staying one night and are only using it as a place to sleep. I didn't mind the funky decor, but taking meetings in the chair in my room or sitting on the furniture in the lobby were all so uncomfortable. Location is walkable to a lot of restaurants so that was nice. Room was clean and still mostly felt new. TV had streaming capabilities and there was charging stations everywhere. Not good for couples/sharing a room with someone because the rooms are small. Not good for anyone that needs to do some work while there. Not good for people who like to chill in their hotel rooms. Good for people who'll be out most of the day, can enjoy the restaurants, and again are only staying for a few nights (ideally 1). Only reason I picked it was a coworker always stays here and the price was reasonable. But this wouldn't be my first choice. Appreciated the shower had two settings, but the hand held shower had almost no water pressure. This is a nice hotel. Great ambiance. Has a few nice sitting areas with a foos ball table. A stage to relax and chill. Has a nice bar inside. However the bar is only open Thursday evening through Saturday. So if you arrive a different day of the week no bar service. Rooms are nice Love the decor. No closets tho. But beds are comfortable. Big screen TVs and most rooms with a good view of the city. Has an outside balcony area on the second floor to sit out and relax as well. This review is for the bar area only, not a hotel stay. The bar itself is not very big, however the bar area is big and has plenty of space and seating. There's unique art and a small room with seating where you can take pictures. There's a foosball table and a few table top games such as connect 4. The bartender Betty makes thee best drinks and even whipped me up a signature drink of her own creation. Both were outstanding. She seriously makes the best drinks I've ever had in my life. Unlike most cocktails that taste like alcohol and something, these drinks have layers of flavors that entice the pallet. I don't know how she does it. My cocktails were $14 a piece and well worth it. There's a cute little snack bar with free apples and goldfish crackers and other things you can purchase. There's also a small offering of local patisseries. We booked this hotel because of location that's so close to the paramount theater. Really reasonably priced hotel with fun quirky atmosphere. Upon checking in they give you a free drink ticket for beer wine or a drink from their little market. Staff was great and offered recommendations for things near by. There was a DJ and games in the lobby which was really fun. Room is very small but comfortable. Each floor has a supply closet so you can help yourself to towels, toiletries, blankets etc. Our only issue was that even though we set the air to 65 degrees our room never got cooler than 77 degrees which made it very uncomfortable and hard to sleep. I'm hoping that was just our room. Despite this we will probably give this place a try again because of the reasonable price and friendly staff. read more

Check-in and out process was easy. I like that the check out time is at 12 pm, too. Staff were friendly and you get a complimentary drink for your stay. I was able to get an early check-in luckily! They have some nice working areas in the main lobby. Rooms were clean and nice. Bathroom was well lit and had nice interior as well. I was here for a one-night work trip and chose the Moxy as my home base due to its proximity to the school and nonprofit office I was there to visit. As a whole, the Moxy brand is the same the world over. The bar-club vibe in the lobby, the industrial dorm vibe in the hallways and within the rooms themselves. I honestly didn't love the dark green crushed velvet look of the hallways, but the room itself was fine. Again, typical to the Moxy brand, the room was smaller-ish (it felt tight between the foot of the bed and the wall opposite), with a decently-sized bathroom. Also true to the Moxy brand, the toilet is right next to the front door, which can be a bit uncomfortable, especially if you're doing big business of the percussive kind. It was an unseasonably warm October week while I was there, so I was thrilled to find the A/C worked well, though it was quite loud. The bed was comfortable for one night, but I didn't sleep well. The chair they provided with the tiny desk was atrocious - it was a canvas woven seat - think any lawn chair you've ever used in your life - and had apparently been sat on by hundreds of other bottoms which resulted in the seat being so low that my short body couldn't comfortably sit at the desk to work, so ended up working on the bed. The shower was the best thing about the room, it was large and comfortable and had great water pressure. My colleague and I did take advantage of the welcome drink tickets provided at check-in. The bartender was friendly - actually, I wish I had his name because I wanted to shout him out for not letting my colleague and one of our nonprofit partners badger me into a late-night drink when I asked for a water. I also randomly saw him working at a bar in an OAK terminal while I was heading to my gate the next day. He recognized me a second before I recognized him, and we had a nice quick chat before I went on my way. All in all a decent stay for one night. Not sure I'd choose to stay here for a longer trip, though. read more

Check out was easy and fast. I didn't stay long enough to use the other amenities. Cons- the parking lot is a bit sketchy. You park across the street in a lot. It's also about $50 to use their parking lot and there's not any other safe options to park anywhere else. The parking lot fee is also not mentioned anywhere. I stayed at the Moxy in Oakland overnight for a work trip. We utilized the valet parking and the attendant was really nice right off the bat. From there we took our bags to check in and the front desk staff was really nice and even gave us some recommendations when we asked. The whole lobby is really cool! The front desk is connected to the bar and the bar is open late (I think they said until 2am). They gave us two drink tickets when we checked in which was a nice touch. There is plenty of seating to hang out in and they have a little store area where you can grab essentials. They also had self serve, complimentary coffee in the morning and they had oat milk as an option! From the lobby you can head to the elevators where you need to swipe your key card to go to the room floors- I appreciated this added security. We were on the fourth floor and while the rooms are tiny, they were clean and the bathroom was pretty spacious with a great shower. We like to have the air conditioning cool the room as much as we can and we turned it on when we arrived and then went to dinner. By the time we got back our room was a great temperature and the bed was super comfy too. Another positive to note, they had a mini fridge in the room that fit our to go containers without an issue. (I only make this note because I recently stayed at a hotel in Long Beach where the mini fridge was SOO SMALL). I was happy that we were able to keep our leftovers cold so we could take them home the next day. Overall our stay was a great one and I'd definitely stay here again. read more

Place to put your head down. Came here as an overnight for a Fox Theatre show - it is a five minute walk on the same side of the street. Complimentary glass of beer or wine when you check in, 24-7 mini snack market, free coffee and tea are readily available. Latte and other drink prices are reasonable. In the morning you can order from the bar breakfast sandos and appetizers. Check in was easy and the place is easy to navigate. The hotel has gated parking diagonal from the hotel, that has a guard and is locked/ gated. The night before we got an heads up about first Friday and restricted access due to street closure for food booths etc. appreciated the communication it helped us plan ahead. The room we had was a bunk bed (full bed with a single bunk above it). Plenty of space to put things down, mini fridge and the bathroom was clean. There are a bunch of pegs and other places to hang your clothing etc. Extra towels are located in lockers through the floors. Each time we went down (PM and AM) someone was at the check-in station. Make sure you arrive on the first Friday night of the month, and you will experience a not to be forgotten low-rider extravaganza on Telegraph Street (in front of the hotel) and a night club in the lobby of the Moxy. This hotel is extra-cool and fun, I mean the check-in is a retro bar! The people were lovely and helpful. The music is loud, the people drink a lot, there is the scent of marijuana everywhere, plus they sold magic mushrooms on the street in little glow boxes. Art and graffiti everywhere, very very cool, and the Mexican food at XOLA was awesome and FRESH! The beds at the Moxy were really comfortable, the air conditioner nice and cool, and somehow we did not hear the club downstairs. I think they closed down at 11pm. The Moxy is full of great art, neons and bright colors. Staying here while on business. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone was sooo friendly and helpful especially Rohan and Devon. My room didn't have the best view but I got great sleep, it was quiet and even walking distance to my fitness gym - orange theory! I loved the shampoo/conditioner options and the rain shower. I guess the only disappointment is they don't have a full restaurant but they do have snacks and such and even free coffee and tea. Cool and funky seating areas too. I felt safe walking around too but just be aware if your surroundings. It's a hip and trendy place to stay and I'll be back! read more

I made a mistake by booking this hotel for 3 nights. I chose this place since I could use my Chase points. The other Marriott charges $15/day for Wifi in your room which is outrageous. Pros: close to 19th St BART and places to grab food -you get 2 coupons to get drinks -there's hot water and terrible coffee available -Oakland tap water is the best (I miss it since I moved away) -quick check-in and check-out process Cons: tiny little room -not a great area, I wouldn't walk around at night -my room faced a Taco Bell parking lot with a perpetually blinking blue light -the HVAC was impossible to tune and is noisy -there's no housekeeping during your stay so you have to take out your own trash -the chair for the desk is the most uncomfortable thing to sit on in the world; it's a metal frame with fabric for the seat; your back of the thighs hurt -the bathroom lights and fan turn on with sensors which is obnoxious; sometimes the fan would run and you couldn't turn it off -the room's lights are sensors too; if you don't get up, they turn off in 15 minutes -the TV never worked for internet streaming This place is only good if you're in for 1 night and you're out the next day. I can see how it's convenient for the BART and concert venues, but that's it. read more

Also the check in desk is easy to miss and there wasn't much guidance or information upon check in. It's not a bad place to stay and the rooms seem fairly clean. SKIP THE FOOD! It was raining and I was desperate so I got a flatbread from the bar and it made my stomach hurt for the rest of the night. Overall, the Kissel is much better, but in a pinch this will do. read more

Before booking, I specifically called to confirm they had Wi-Fi because I was traveling for work and needed it -- and was told yes. When I arrived, the Wi-Fi didn't work at all. I called the front desk about an hour later and was told it was still down, and by night it still hadn't been fixed. I ended up having to go to a café just to get my work done, which completely defeated the purpose of booking this stay. On top of that, they placed me in a second-floor room where loud creaking sounds from the building's tubing/pipes went on all night long, making it impossible to sleep. When I opened my curtains in the morning, my "high king" room view was literally just a wall of gray piping/tubes right outside the window. This stay was the opposite of restful or productive, and to make things worse, they even charged me for parking when I didn't have a car. This Moxy location ended up being our favorite out of the few we've stayed at. Every single member of the staff we encountered were super friendly and attentive. Check-in, as always, was a breeze. The rooms were the same as the others; small with a king size bed and decor complimenting the host city. They're small (some may say, cozy) with minimalistic vibe, so definitely not family friendly. But if it's just you or two of you, it's perfect (as long as you really like the person). The lobby/bar area was great but the real winner was the rooftop, outdoor lounge that no one seemed to know about. My Dad drove up from Vallejo to meet my wife and I for drinks and we had this area all to ourselves. Once we figured out how to turn on the propane heaters it was perfect. I've stayed here twice now for work trips and overall had a great experience. The check in staff are very nice and helpful and provide you a free drink ticket to have at their bar (you can also redeem for a latte). They don't accept contactless, which was inconvenient and the rooms don't have a microwave or water heater, however so if you want to reheat something, you'll have to go downstairs (same if you want some tea or basic coffee. The downstairs mini kitchen also has a water filling station and snacks for purchase. Overall, I had a good experience. This place does brand itself as slightly different from other hotels (with smaller rooms and more focused on the bar/communal areas) and I was left with wishing they did have some of the things you would usually get from a hotel. read more

The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Oakland which has all kinds of crime. Little did I know until I became a victim myself. My car was broken into the night I arrived and my luggage with everything in it was stolen (or at least I thought so at first). So you can imagine how helpless I felt when I checked in. Alex was kind enough to let me borrow his personal phone charger throughout my stay. They offer velvet parking for $41/day which is well worth it in a city like Oakland. They bring the car to you whenever you need it and just leave the key to them when you're done - most convenient service ever! Domingo was so helpful that he helped me with online police report filing. He even taped my broken window for me. Every staff showed sympathy after hearing the incident. I just want to say that I really appreciate your kindness! Other than the location, I have nothing bad to say about the hotel. The construction is brand new with trendy interiors and modern design. You get the immediate hip vibe when you walk into the lobby. The bar is their front desk where you would be offered a complimentary cocktail. Events are held from time to time. The price and location (depending what you're here for) is decent. However, it is super basic/minimalistic in terms of amenities. Small snack bar in the lobby with complimentary coffee/tea downstairs, and a microwave if needed. No mini fridge or microwave in the room. My room was SOOO noisy at night (weekend) due to the loud music from downstairs and I was right above the patio on third floor! If I had to stay here again I would request a room on a top floor on other side of building. You receive a free drink voucher upon check in, but u read in another review that it's only for their house cocktail. I have not used it yet, so we will see. The gym has 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, a punching bag, weight bench, weights, and a peloton bike. I was disappointed that both treadmills are "out of service" and there wasn't a regular stationary bike that I could just hop on without having to create some peloton account. The gym is 24/7 and has lockers outside the main door. One of my favorite things about this hotel is the beautiful lobby/lounge/bar area. They did a great job there. The rooms and what they offer, however, could use some additions. read more

*BAR ONLY Very modern and cute hotel bar. Def stands out and attracts you to bring you in. The lights, the different decor, and the seats were well thought out. Seats had some tables doubled as game tables like chess and checkers. The drinks were cute but expensive. Weird that the hotel check-in is at the same counter as the bar, but unique nonetheless. Def a cute pre-game spot with ya girls before going to dance somewhere else. read more

This place was just ok. It's cute and all but the vibe is curated to the point that it loses its authenticity. Clean, but it's still new. I was not impressed by the check-in procedure, which requires you to stand awkwardly by the front door while they check you in on a tablet at the end of the bar. The clerk was flustered and cranky, but I'm not phased by that these days. We were given a free drink with hubby's Bonvoy status, which we had later on that night. But then I had to ask for water which always comes with said status. Then I had to ask for a late checkout, reminding her for a third time his status level. It made me feel bougie for asking for something that is supposed to be standard. Annoying. Our floor was a sickly shade of green that made my head spin. The rooms are TEENY TINY. Like alarmingly so. It's appointed... interestingly. Like a hipster-millennial-rock-nerd vibe that maybe I'm just too old for. King beds only, so not a family place. Was super glad it was just the two of us. No parking, just three lot suggestions. I ended up parking in the "unsafe" (their words) lot across the street, which you use with an infuriating app, but I needed in-and-out privileges. So, the final word on this place? Nothing outrageous or egregiously bad - just really really meh. read more
