Stayed at the Courtyard for one night for a quick biz trip. I stayed on the 3rd floor over looking the busy street of Chinatown. No wait at check in which was nice. Cons - The tv never worked. I even called down to the front desk and it rang 10 times + but no one picked up. I tried everything on the remote and with the random cords hanging out. The containers in the bathroom had 2 shampoos and 1 conditioner. I was hoping there would be one container for body wash so all I could use to wash my body was the bar soap by the sink. The windows were filthy and need a washing on the outside...it's definitely been a while. The room was clean with the exception that the bath tub looks like it has leftover stuff on the bottom of the tub but its stains but it still looked very funky. I was here overnight to attend a big convention at the Marriott across the street. Award reservations were only available at this property so I took a chance and stayed here instead and it turned out to be a great choice. I'm a loyal customer of Marriott properties but have always been confused by what constitutes a "Courtyard" as the range of quality can be pretty wide. Fortunately this one is one of the better Courtyards with clean, quiet rooms, well maintained furnishings, friendly staff, and a an efficient property size. Front desk is great, luggage storage worked well. Colleagues who also stayed here expressed satisfaction with their rooms and the hotel choice too. I will not hesitate to book here again when I need to be near the Convention Center in the future. read more

We stayed at the Marriott at 988 Broadway in Chinatown. We were greeted by Kenya who was very accomodating. She even showed concern that our room might be too far from the elevator (we're in our 70s). I assured her that the walking was good for us. The door man, Biz, was super attentive. Justin who worked at the Bistro really knows customer service. And those are just to name a few. Every single staff person we met greeeted us with a friendly hello. The hotel is very clean, in a great location and even offered a canteen where you could purchase snacks and some frozen meals. We will definitely be back. read more

Good location for our family event. We booked through a third party for a better rate. We did valet parking (45 dollars plus tax) for $54 a day. Easy and secured parking so I trusted this better than self-parking. Lobby was clean, welcoming and they have a restaurant attached. They had free popcorn for guests as well! Kids LOVED it. The check-in process was lengthy but everyone was kind and let us check in an hour early! The rooms were spacious and clean. We got the double queen room and it was perfect for our needs. There was a fridge and coffee maker in the rooms. No microwave (you have to use the microwave in the lobby). Would recommend to family and friends! read more

Stayed here for work, there was a convention across the street for a couple of days. Positives: Everyone and I mean EVERYONE who works here were SO nice, friendly and helpful. I didn't encounter a single employee that seemed unhappy or irritated that they were there. My room was huge and clean! My employer paid for the room so maybe it was an upgrade but it was nice! The bed was comfortable and soft. I was on the third floor and could hear the person above me but it wasn't too bad noise wise and that's a big deal for me. Negatives: The shower had very little water pressure. I have long hair and it was hard to wash out the shampoo. The parking. I tried to park in the valet but no one came to help me and I got confused and thought I was doing something wrong. So I left and parked in a garage around the corner which cost me $84 to park overnight for two days. with all the horror stories right now about Oakland, I didn't want to take a chance and try to find somewhere else to park for cheaper and even then I was concerned and worried about my vehicle the whole time since I wasn't able to check on it easily. If the convention continues to be held here, I would stay here again for sure and make sure to find valet. read more

The rooms were very clean, beds are comfortable, pillows were perfect Wish they had a room card on the elevator as the Oakland City Center area is a hellscape. We didn't venture off the hotel/Convention center as there is seriously hazards because of defecating on the sidewalks ( even at the entrance of the hotel check-in at the valet parking area) dirty, homeless drug zombies abundant. EV charging stations /several nearby were totally destroyed. Hotel/Convention Center was great/just stay nearby as the rest was just bad. We live in North Tahoe and Grass Valley and glad we don't live anywhere like this! read more

I stayed couple of nights for business trip. The fact that they lock one of the two entrance (accesable with room key) give pretty unsafe location vibe. Partly updated rooms with carpet, sink, lamps, and wallpapers. But old rusty vibe with old fashion light switch, rusty/scratched up elevators, night stands with drawers that does not shut with bibles, rusty door parts and etc. Thus overpriced. Good service with front desk staffs and friendly housekeeper. Overall experience was ok and would not recommend/prefer to return. read more

Great conference rooms. Great service. Beautiful views. I came here for a Convention for three days. I saw a couple of the rooms and one of them was a one bedroom super cozy. Greatly out. I stayed in a double bed. I love this room for several reasons. The best for super comfortable. There was the most beautiful aesthetic, automatic by the window with an amazing view. Everything was clean. Sometimes DoorDash apparently even delivers to the room but I'm not night I guess they wouldn't for whatever reason. Either way, if there is another convention at this hotel, I will not hesitate. The several rooms at the convention took place and were fun, easy to get to, and appropriately sized for each activity. I frequently travel to Oakland, and have chosen this location at my go-to hotel while in town. I find this location to be affordable, very clean, and reliable: everything that I need while travelling. I have found that, typically, Courtyard locations are generally reliable. At this location, I always find that customer service is of the highest quality-a true step above the rest. The front desk staff are extremely attentive, and make me feel welcomed when I walk through the doors. Truly, they greet me with a smile, and make me feel like I've made the right decision staying there. The hotel itself is in a good location, and a few good spots for a quick bite to eat while in town. This is a very solid option for a hotel in the Bay Area. I have stayed in some less than desirable locations in the past, and never once have I found my stay to be anything less than excellent here. Location wise, this hotel is located in the downtown district which makes it easily accessible but you run into parking issues. Thankfully, they have valet. Or so we thought. Their rooms were fine, no issues - as in typical Marriott style, the beds were super comfortable. The check in process was quite smooth. The valet is my only issue. We were told that any time we needed the car, we should contact the main desk who would then relay the message. Well, that did not happen either of times we called the main desk for the car. The valet was obviously understaffed because they didn't have enough people to park or unpark cars. When we checked in late evening, I figured it was because of the late hour. But even in the morning, it was the same thing and we ended up waiting at least 20 mins for our car (after having called the main desk at least 15 mins before we came down with our bags). For $45 per night valet parking, this amenity was seriously lacking. read more

Obviously it's been several years since I stayed here, but I decided to book here for my first night of a work trip because I didn't want to stay at the Doubletree Marina (too far from urban core) and the Marriott across the street was too expensive. I always like staying in downtown Oakland because I really enjoy the proximity to Chinatown and all the good food it offers. It's also very close to Bart. That being said, the courtyard is definitely a budget hotel. The restaurant is really no longer operating from what I can see, and just like my review swim seven years ago, the gym is very minimal. It's a little disappointing for a hotel gym, but I guess if you look at it being your own personal gym, it's great! I made the mistake of booking all of my hotel reservations through my credit card travel system, So I had to call and get my rewards number added. This was quite the hassle and I even called the courtyard twice and still failed to successfully get my rewards number added. The first time I called, a lady helped me and I thought I was set... And unfortunately I checked my app a day or two later and still could not see my reservation. I called the day before my arrival and I was out in hold for so long I ended up bailing for more important things. I arrived the next morning after a red eye around 9:20 AM and waited quite a while while the staffer was on the phone with another customer. He finally looked up to ask if I was checking in? Did I have early check in? No? Oh no noooo, we don't have a room. No. I was frustrated that I couldn't indicate my check in time because I couldn't get my reservation added, but I know it's not guaranteed. I settled into the sad lobby to work and was at it for about two hours. The same staffer came by to let me know there WAS a room open on the second floor, but I could wait for a better one. I thanked him and checked in after another phone call. The staffer at the desk then was odd and not particularly friendly until "OH, thank you for being Marriott Gold" (and it's because it's an experience survey question *eyeroll*) All in all, I got a room and i got one before 4 pm and the staffer who was somewhat rude upon my entry followed up with me, so it all worked out. Gotta say, the service and execution has issues which irked me for a work trip where I am especially unforgiving because time, but if you're not an uptight director who is this close to being F'ing OVER IT, it's a perfectly good hotel for a more leisurely trip. Yes it's downtown Oakland, adjacent to Chinatown, but I'd embrace it. Get that boba, dim sum and egg tarts and then go to your bougie dinner. read more

I enjoy my stay at the Courtyard. In general all the staff members were professional and welcoming. My room was clean and had travel sized bar soap, and lotion. The room included a coffee/tea machine and mini fridge. There is a café, pool and gym on the property. No microwave or safe. There is no self parking option. Valet was $53 a night after tax. Street parking is available, but this area is high risk for car break-ins. read more

Well..... I have stayed at Courtyard Marriott Downtown Oakland several times as it's near Alta Bates medical center. Every time I have stayed here in the past it was a good experience. This most recent stay will mark my last. The check in staff were very friendly. The room was in BAD condition. I tried to reach out to housekeeping, but it must have been too late. My wife just happened to have anti bacteria wipes in the car. We are the kind of people that are NOT germ concerned and DO NOT wipe everything down everywhere we go. We actually should probably be a little more concerned, but that's another subject. The surfaces in the room were so DIRTY! I spent 30 minutes wiping everything down. GOT THE PICTURES TO PROVE IT. I have never seen anything like this, especially during a PANDEMIC. When I checked out I wanted to mention it to the manager. Again the staff at the front desk was very nice. MANAGER WAS TOO BUSY TO TALK TO ME, TOLD THE STAFF GIVE HIM $30 OFF HIS PARKING. I guess this is the approach this facility takes when a customer has a sincere concern, throw a few dollars at it and tell them I'm busy. Well..... they lost my respect and my business. If a manager does not have 90 seconds to listen to a customer with a pretty serious concern, that's a pretty sad business model. So, I guess I'll be staying at this nice boutique place I found in Berkeley for about the same price next time. read more

Our first visit to this part of Oakland. We did want to stay at a Marriott hotel, but did not know the location of this one would be in the heart of Chinatown. Not bad, but kind of seedy. Hotel room: Average size. Two double beds. Clean, except for the windows. Could not see out of them very well and the cobwebs were abundant. See photo. We had free coffee in the room (standard), free mini fridge (which had to be traded because the maid did not clean it from the last customer. It had some old ice cream in it that hardened). Towels and maid service was very limited because of COVID. We had to call if we wanted clean towels or beds made, etc. The phone inside the room did not work. There was free HBO and Showtime though. Restaurant: Great prices for their breakfast. Tasty. Efficient and polite service. Don't buy their juices though, because they were way overpriced. Staff: Amika was the best hotel front desk employee. She was on top of things. And she was always acknowledging our presence, thank yous and please was often heard from her. When the front desk lady who spoke with an Asian accent brushed us off when we said our phone did not work and we needed more toilet paper, I called back down to the desk and thank goodness, Amika was working. She took care of us right away. That other lady never put in our request!! Parking: $30 per full day of stay, and it's an outdoor lot with very limited parking!!! You will see some homeless guys that hangout in the parking lot. They did not bother us, but I never felt safe. Yikes. read more

Left items in my room, they call me to pick them up and when I show up they said no items have been lost. Very odd considering they called me multiple times stating they thought I was staying extra days since the items in my room. I hope whoever stole my items enjoy them. Will not be recommending any of our clients to stay with Marriott moving forward. I hope it was worth it. read more

I stayed here for three nights and loved the location- downtown Oakland. There are several restaurants and stores within walking distance. The hotel staff are courteous, helpful, and professional. They go out of their way to ensure you're enjoying your stay and have no questions. My room was nice but the carpet and wallpaper were a bit worn. As with many hotels in its class, you get a tiny bottle of shampoo, conditioner, and two bars of soap. The cleaning staff did a wonderful job, and I was pleased with the cleanliness of my room. There's a pool and work out room and a quaint cafe and Starbucks downstairs. The lobby furniture was a bit worn and the walls could use some fresh paint. Overall, it was a nice experience. Due to its convenient location to my family, I will be back in June. read more

I had a wonderful stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Oakland. I attended a conference in the Big Marriott across the street. It worked out really well. It was convient, the room was great, and the staff was super friendly from the moment I checked in. I arrived early for the conference and my room was all ready. I was able to check my suitcase the next day after I checked out until my conference ended. I was extremely impressed they remembered me by name when I went to pick my suitcase up. Complimentary popcorn in the lobby was a nice touch too. I'll definately be staying here again. read more

Nice hotel at a convenient location! I stayed at Courtyard Marriott for the first time before a business meeting next day and overall I enjoyed my stay there. Located in downtown Oakland, this hotel is within walking distance to many office building, bus routes and bart stations. In addition, it is very close to China town in Oakland and you can get a lot of delicious food around. As for amenities, the hotel has a small swimming pool, a restaurant and a gym. I would rate the gym as minimally adequate with a few tread mills and some free weights. As for the restaurant, it is great for casual meals or snacks but it would be too casual for business meals. My hotel cost $296 a night and it came to $343 with hotel taxes and fees. I found the bed comfortable and the bathroom spacious. Overall, a nice hotel at a convenient location for business meeting. read more

I've stayed here now three times for work. I fly into Oakland airport from Long Beach or LAX. This hotel is about a 20-minute Uber ride from the airport. It's extremely pandemic-friendly, rooms come with sanitized remote (the germ -est item in the room), antibacterial wipes and single use plastic cups in lieu of glasses. It's conveniently located, within walking distance of a lot of restaurants and bars. Due to the pandemic, this location of neither bar nor restaurant currently. Also, I'm giving 3 stars in lieu of 4 because I never received my complimentary reward points promised for a mix up with my room. read more

So I I havn't stayed here I just dropped my colleague off. I went inside And was happy with the place. Clean inside. I'm able to provide the pictures of room 225 and the view from that room. This little joint is located in Downyow/China town Oakland. I'm loving this area. On Friday the farmers market is right across the street. They only have valet parking $40 a night. The valet guys were super kool. I wasnt there long enough to experience the customer service. I will say the little that I did get was kool. Starbucks is there and a little store// Gift shop. Decent Accommodation in an Easily Accessible Part of Oakland SITREP We had a CCLD Managers Academy at our Regional Office located at 1515 Clay Street, and the Courtyard Oakland Downtown was a very close by hotel accommodation. THE SETUP The first criteria I have to have met before I even consider staying when traveling on State business is does the hotel fall within the State Rate? (In this instance, for Alameda County, $125 effective 01/01/2015). And Courtyard DID. The next criteria for me was how close is it to where I need to be working/training/recording? In this instance, Courtyard was a mere 0.4 miles aways - only about 7-8 blocks, but with the training and recording equipment with me, I had to drive but at least it was very close, ensuring minimal travel in commuting. THE ROOM The hotel room was very nice. VALET PARKING I prefer self-parking, less expensive, and not a big to-do. I'm not a big fan on forced valet parking at hotels. But Valet parking is all they had here. On a related note, nor am I a fan of having to pay for separate parking at hotels AT ALL. I think if you are staying at a hotel, you should have parking complimentary with that stay. This was $24 a day. So as a standard reviewing practice on my part, ANY HOTEL that charges extra for their patron's parking gets an automatic 1-Star deduction. That's a usurious, greedy practice that needs to stop, like yesterday. THE LOWDOWN All things being equal, the Courtyard made for pleasant overnight stays. read more

The black lady at the front desk very rude and condescending said her name was kay, not sure if that's true. We had a late flight so we decided to sit in the lobby they provide and watch the Super Bowl while it got closer to our flight time. We were stared down multiple times by housekeeping manager giving us dirty looks not sure why when there was others watching the game also. Went to ask if we could be let in to use restroom as they were letting others use it, and Kay the front desk lady told us no we could not in a very rude way. We asked why and she said it's only for guests which we are. And she said we couldn't because we were checked out, we explained to her that we were checked in earlier and she told us and she would not allow us to use the restroom after letting other people that were also checked out use it. Not sure what the issue was and why she had a bad attitude towards us. Being that we were guests at this hotel I really expected better treatment she for sure needs to be retrained in customer service and anti-discrimination training. Will not be returning here stay away, awful customer service we weren't not even greeted. She and her housekeeping manager friend acted as if it was a bother for us to stay here. I'll spend my money elsewhere.. never again. Stay away !! Far ! No one deserves to be treated like this read more

This was my first time in Oakland, and my first time at this hotel. The neighborhood itself seems a bit rough, but the hotel was fine. The staff were all friendly, and the restaurant downstairs served its purpose. The room itself was nice. WiFi is free, but you can't stream shows on the free WiFi. The room walls are thin and the tv does not work. I asked them to fix the tv but the security came upstairs to fix the problem, left and never returned. We were only offered $25 compensation for our problems but the money is nit the problem. I wanted a good night sleep and to watch tv in the morning. Smh. Never again! Will I stay here. read more

I stayed at the Oakland Courtyard Jan 22 and 26, before and after a Sierra ski trip. The room was quiet and comfortable. A great bed by the way. The front desk manager, Serhat, was efficient, friendly and very helpful. The doorman my first night was Sergio, who helped me figure out how to track down my Uber ride when I left a backpack behind. Both my visits had a welcoming feeling. The Courtyard has a Bistro restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and the food is excellent. Although there's no full-time restaurant, a block or so away is the Marriott City Center with the Iron & Oak Restaurant which I was directed to for a very tasty dinner and beer my second night. read more

I am a huge Marriott Fan, but this was handsdown the most unpleasant visit to a Marriot in my 30 years of travel. The service was disappointing, the parking situation that left us stuck outside of the gate for close to 25 minutes was frustrating. The agent who checked us in didn't tell us that we had to call the front desk to get buzzed into the parking area. The air conditioning didn't work so it was impossible to sleep. The best part of this room was housekeeping, the rooms seemed clean, but that is the only positive thing I can say about this particular hotel. If you plan on hosting any events or conferences, look into the Marriott across the street, it seems a bit more refined. read more
