Came here first time for a massage and an acupuncture session. The acupuncturist was very gentle and took her time to make sure I was able to tolerate the treatment. Not sure if the treatment worked but I have to rave about how amazing the massage was. I had Linda, the masseuse. She's petite but strong and definitely paid a lot of attention to every single knot in my body. She wasted no time and gave her full body weight to deliver and loosen my horrible knots. The session was painful but felt so good at the same time. After the session, my entire body felt so much looser and at ease. There was definitely less tension. I have a very tight back and neck, and luckily I found Columbia Acupuncture! I have been trying to go on a regular basis - it is quite addicting (and most insurances cover it)! The masseuses I've had are all wonderful - they do a great job of pressing hard to get out the knots (I'm sure you can ask them to go lighter too if you prefer)! I usually make an appointment, although they do allow walk-ins. I do recommend calling ahead of time though to make sure that there is someone available. The receptionists are also really nice, making it a great environment. I've been to both the washington heights and union square locations and they're both great! I just learned that there's also a Columbus Circle location, and cannot wait to try it! read more

Front desk staff are nice and informative, very professional and knowledgeable about insurance, etc. Like the other customers have said, it's an open loft so you can hear conversations and noise from everything that's going on. 2 of the masseurs were gossiping about patients in Chinese while walking in and out of the rooms and I happened to overhear them saying derogatory comments about the patients, talking about the how wealthy they were or whether the person had money or not. Was very unprofessional and upsetting for me to overhear, and they talked loudly thinking nobody understood them in a different language. One started spitting up sputum while rinsing her mouth after eating, was exceptionally revolting to hear since it's supposed to be a relaxing environment. I would advise that you train your staff to maintain professionalism at all time and keep self-comments about patients to a minimum. Patients/customers are here for help, not criticism and judgment. read more

I have had recurring pain and no doctor has been able to make it better. I went to Yelp to seek a great acupuncturist and found Dr. Lui, and boy, am I thrilled. - Close to work, and at a fantastic location, check. - Beautiful, CLEAN and professional office, check. - Attentive doctor, check. - Covered by my insurance - YAY! I got there at 5 p.m., had a consult and then he was able to treat me with acupuncture, followed by cupping. He was efficient and on point. I left in less pain, with a follow up appointment and feeling better than I had in a long time. This is a far better way to maintain pain management than prescription pain meds. read more

I go here every Friday morning for a massage, acupuncture, and cupping due to chronic back pain. It is my lifesaver! My back always feels better after the treatments, and everyone is kind and helpful and good at what they do! I had a terrible stiff neck and went to see Dr. Liu for Acupuncture for the VERY 1st time. He used needles + cupping and I was about 70% better right after the visit. I could not believe it! A few of my family members raved about this place. I'm a believe of holistic, western but herbal and natural form of healing aka "Traditional Chinese Medicine". The dr did an extensive triage with me, asking me about any and all of my ailments. Anything I could think of ( come prepared- write things down so you can remember what your issues are because you will forget when asked on the spot). I named a whole bunch of ailments, which the drs asked more and more. She already was able to tell me things about my diet and sleep patterns. She focused on my acid reflux and foot pain. She took me to eventually the acupuncture session. This was interesting for a first timer. It doesn't hurt, but you Feel it. There were moments she would let me know would be sore - and they were. It's like pushing a pressure point, it's the best pain in the world. She mentioned my kidney and Chi. The doctor applied heat and electricity- she asked how I was doing every-time she touched me. The bedside manner was amazing. I do have to take lots of herbal pills but to aid in some of the issues I've been complaining about. This office offers massages , covered by your insurance. ( you can tell it's more of a medical massage, focusing on the issues you mentioned were bother you , shoulder, feet , hips, etc. ) They also offer programs !! One being a weight loss program with ear beads for acupressure, teas , acupuncture amongst a few more programs. Highly recommend a first time experience if not a lifestyle change ! Within just 3 visits my back pain is pretty much cleared up. Dr.Lui is hands down the most effective acupuncturist I have been to in the city. The office is clean, warm and calming. The masseuses were great at working out tight areas in my back and getting my nerves balanced. After my first visit, I left feeling calmer and more agile, and in less pain than I had in weeks. After 5 years of manageable but uncomfortable pain, I was diagnosed with a hip labral tear by my ortho specialist. I was devastated - mainly because the thought of surgery, let alone in my hip area - was mind-numbing. And with a wedding in 2 months + a 20-hour flight to Thailand, I didn't know which was worse: the thought of having surgery around this time or being in pain during my flight to Asia. I was told a hip labral tear is basically tearing of cartilage, in which the only true way to 'fix' the tear is with surgery. I was told that people can live with this tear without surgery, but with modifications in their life. My physical therapist recommended I check out his acupuncturist to 'manage' the pain in the meantime before my wedding. I've now seen Dr. Liu for only 6 visits, and it's truly a miracle how much I have healed. He explained to me that he's healed others before with labral tear, as acupuncture promotes microcirculation, with others not needing surgery. My hip area fills stronger. There is little to no pain, and I know this will only get better with a few more visits. I truly believe I'm in the process of healing from this 5-year injury and will not need surgery. Dr. Liu also worked on other areas that were slightly bothering me (my right hand from beginning flares of tendonitis, my neck area being tight) and it just took one visit for these areas to feel back to normal. Unfortunately my experience was horrible at the Washington Heights location. They charged me $144.00 for Consultation and 1 acupuncture upfront. The consultation last less than 3 minutes and the female doctor only asked me like 5 fill the blanks questions without having any conversation about my concerns. She proceed to insert few needles and then she said that I need to stay there for 30 minutes. At first I was under the impression that she was the nurse taking my vitals. I asked for Dr. Liu and she said that he was not at the office that day. I specifically booked the appointment to be seen by Dr. Liu. However, She left me there and she return after 20 minutes to remove the needles. She said make another appointment with Dr. Liu. Then, I proceed to the front desk, I explained the situation to the receptionist and she said that I can make another appointment but they will charge me additional $96 dollars. Stay away from this practice, apparently they just want your money and they are not interested in your health. read more

NOT RECOMMENDED Avoid Dr Jin. As I wrote previously she used lot less needles on less areas than other acupuncturist and I'm still suffering from horrible allergies which has triggered asthma. Normally, 1 treatment every 4-5 months works like a charm on my allergy symptoms usually within 1-2 day of treatment but not from here $120 down the drain. I have a pretty bad neck pain and has been in physical therapy for two months. Although the pt exercises do help, it doesn't give much massaging there. And this place gives a full hour neck to toe massaging that really help relieve my pain, and they accept the same insurance as the physical therapy. Now instead of going to the PT, I do exercises myself and go to this place for massaging. I feel much better in just 2 weeks. And the best of all, it feels just like a spa with hot stone and oil. I started going to Dr. Lui the 2nd week of October 2010. I initially went to see him for knee pain, after 2 visits of accupuncture and electro stimulation the pain was gone. I then started the weight loss program, 1 week after the visits for my knee. This program works, I started out at 208 lbs, I was down to 187lbs before the end of December2010. You don't get side effects, or have to follow any crazy diets. My weight has gone up and down a few lbs here and there. That's due to all the junk food I was eating in between. Overall I haven't gone anywhere near my starting weight. I was wearing a 16-18 I am now wearing some 12"s and 14's. People easily notice the weight loss, I feel great and look good in my clothing. My days are filled with energy, and I get a good night sleep minus the knee pains. I would recommend this weight loss plan to anyone. It is quite pricey, but it's worth it when it comes to your health. Try the herbs too, whatever problem you have Dr. Lui will mix up a tea for you. My allergies have immensely improved , and the immune booster pills are excellent too. If you dont try any of the aforementioned, treat yourself to a soothing massage you wont regret it.
