This driving school is poorly organized and seems more interested in taking customers' money than providing reliable service. They canceled my behind-the-wheel DMV test appointment without notice, and I nearly missed my driving test. The only reason I was able to take the test was because my instructor, Felix, genuinely cared and advocated for me. He managed to get the school to switch the schedule back at the last minute so I could make it. The school also refused to give me a refund for the canceled appointment. Instead, they let my instructor take me to the test by canceling another student's appointment, leaving her behind--even though she had already taken the day off for her test, just like I did. They also canceled one of my driving lessons without any explanation and didn't even inform the instructor. The only good part of this experience was Felix--he's the best driving teacher, and I wouldn't have passed without him. I wish I could have taken lessons with him directly, without dealing with the school at all. read more

My wife took their 10 Hour Driving Training course. Three issues: 1. Every time my wife scheduled a two-hour lesson using their website, they would charge our credit card the entire ten-hour course cost ($815). This happened twice after the first and only authorized payment. They claimed they would refund us for the two erroneous charges but they never have after three months. 2. They assigned different driving instructors throughout the course. These driving instructors do not follow a uniform lesson plan and have completely different teaching styles. One of the instructors was great but the other was terrible. The latter instructor had no structure whatsoever. He simply told my wife to drive wherever she felt was right and had a blunt and rude personality most of the time. 3. One of their vehicles had broken air conditioning. My wife took the course over the summer so you can imagine how uncomfortable that was. She would come back from her lessons sweating profusely. This review managed to avoid receiving only one star simply because of the pleasant experience my wife had with one of their instructors (Jose). He earned them the additional star. Other than that, I suggest avoiding this place if you want to spare yourself the trouble. read more

Unfortunately I cannot recommend them, they first moved my behind the wheel lesson and then cancelled it last minute. It was almost impossible for me to get in elsewhere. At least they provided the refund. read more

I scheduled 2 Hours of driving practice back in December & was placed with Felix. Felix is super relaxed, knowledgeable and patient. I explained my situation of having driving anxiety - Within the first 30 minutes of practice with Felix, I already felt more confident in my abilities. He gave great advice & pointers & kept having me try again until I got it right. Fast forward to March I scheduled my driving test, I was placed with Felix again for my 1 Hour practice/Drive test! He had me practice around streets, went through basically the whole pre-test - Any time I made a mistake, Felix told me try again until I got it right. For a while my wife and I weren't even sure if this company was legitimate. Actually, we're still not sure, as we still haven't received the certificate of completion needed for the DMV. This caused us to miss our child's drive test appointment. They rarely answer the phone or emails, and as mentioned they can't even get basics right like providing the student the certificate of completion after completing lessons. When the company did reply to our requests, we were told they would consider issuing the certificate in a week or two, and then mail it to us. This will delay the drive test at least a month, given DMV scheduling delays. Do yourself a favor and go with a better-run company. It's a commodity product, and there's no reason to go with a company that treats its customers like this. read more

Beware of this company do not use them. What a joke! we purchased three driving lessons from them. first lesson was great. Second one no-show no answer rescheduled for another second one no-show again waiting all day for them to respond. Save yourself a headache and go with somebody else. read more

Finally heard back from Academic Driving School. They were very apologetic, explained that they were using a new system, and quickly scheduled my son's last lesson. Instructor was awesome. Completed a practice driving test with my son and insured that he was ready for his driving test. read more

Well, it appears that my one star review needs to be updated. As it turns out the school, which does seem to be managed on a thin margin, had some sort of catastrophic communications failure, hence my inability to get in contact with anyone. They finally returned the many calls and proceeded to schedule the remaining driver training sessions and completed the service. The trainer was prompt and courteous and provided the service as agreed. read more

I recently moved from the Netherlands (Europe) to San Francisco and was looking for a driving school to help me get familiar with driving here. As the rules are different. My instructor was patient and relaxt. Always on time. And scheduling classes was easy using the Drive Scout app. I even used them to do my DMV behind the wheel test. The first lesson he picked me up in a Toyota. Which was familiar as I drove a stick shift Toyota Yaris in the Netherlands (we mostly drive stick shift cars there) the 3rd time he picked me up in a Tesla. And me and technology... ow boy. ‍ (I am in my 30's). I mean I didn't know how to even get in the car. So I failed my behind the wheel test the first time, driving the Toyota (super nervous, was the second one to take the test that morning and examinator forgot what it feels like to be nervous I guess). The second time my instructor came and picked me up in the Tesla, which I was not really a fan off (unfamiliar too techy). Was the 50th person to take the behind the wheel test that day and actually bonded with my DMV examinator over the Tesla, she didn't know how to get in the car either. Ended up passing the test in the Tesla. Don't let my story fool you, the Tesla drives amazing. I am just the type of person that likes to keep things basic and stick to what she knows. Should have know that wasn't the way to go. Cause that is why I moved in the first place, adventure. read more

I highly recommend this school, I used their services for my drivers test as I needed a car to do the test in, they also did a one hour warm up drive before my behind the wheel test, Sher was patient and helpful which really helped me pass my test. read more

I got my refund for the missing class back very quickly, and the classes I was able to take were wonderful. The instructor is kind and courteous and really makes sure you know what you're doing and why you're doing it. I couldn't have gotten my license if it wasn't for Academic Driving School read more

Very knowledgeable and calm. I had no knowledge of driving and found the experience with this school to be very thorough. Got my driving license in my first attempt! I'm Deaf, and English is not my first language. When I called to Academic Driving School, I was so anxious and worried. What is anxious is that I want to get my driving license in a short time, and what is worried is that they would refuse to provide services because of communication issues. I consulted other driving school before, but unfortunately they need to take two or three weeks later to make driving classes appointments. I was happy Academic driving school was the only one would be available in 2 weeks, and they honestly stated that they were the first time they have met a Deaf student to learn driving in this driving school, but they are willing to try their best to communicate with me. My instructor is very patient and creative. I brought a small whiteboard to write and draw for communication. Sometimes we use the voice-to-text of my phone to communicate. I ordered 6-hours classes and driving test services, and I'm satisfied these services! After I passed the driving test, I brought my suggestion about how to work with Deaf students in the future, they listened carefully to my suggestions and recorded then down. I appreciate it!!!
