Coming from seven schools previously to this one (private and public) it's safe to say I know a good bit about the school system so just keep that in mind. Dunedin's direct public competition such as PHU, East Lake, and Tarpon are all egregiously overrated. Since large portions of those schools populations are wealthy they have access to virtually any drug which is why each of them have horrible drug problems, especially Tarpon (common for kids there to have gone to rehab). Teachers at east lake are lazy and rely on the wealth of the students there to pay for private tutoring rather than teaching the subject properly, this combined with their drug problem makes me question why anyone would consider this school. PHU is the best option of this list since it has the most driven population of student; however, they WILL work you harder than you have ever been worked before. The private schools are not much better considering all the ones in Pinellas county such as Calvary and especially CCC have the same drug problems as the listed public schools just for the premium price of about $16000. These schools make you think that your getting something for your money but in reality they are really limiting your education by making things harder than they have to be (meaning getting into rigorous classes such as AP classes which boost your GPA is harder to do here than elsewhere). These schools are also usually full of spoiled brats which is not always a good influence on other kids there cause everyone knows how good the work ethic of those kind of kids are. Jesuit seems to be the only reasonable private school however they are in Tampa and only allow boys. Now looking at Dunedin alone it is easy to overlook at first but here is an overview of what's up. The school has a very small population compared to any other public school in the county. Dunedin has teachers that fight for their students and really do a great job (that doesn't just come from me). Dunedin has a solid amount of AP classes and it's not difficult to get into one, as well getting into the social groups at the top in terms of grades is super easy since the class is so small (this comes from a student who is top of their class). The drug problem at Dunedin is minor especially when compared to other schools in the county. The bad news about Dunedin is that ever since COVID the school has been losing good teachers and things are generally on the decline in terms of quality, although there is new admin that looks good but I won't be there to see how they do. This decline is completely due to the school board of Pinellas county, they are absolutely TERRIBLE. They are the reason this review is missing a star and why Dunedin is declining. But all that being said dunedin will stay at least a decent school, better than the others mentioned at least. So essentially your two choices are between PHU and Dunedin, and keep in mind that there isn't a one size fits all kind of school so when deciding between these schools you really have to see which one fits your child the best. PHU will work ur child as hard as a college student but Dunedin will force your student to build their own work ethic to be at the same level (which for me was better). Ultimately both schools are being affected by the school board so the decline at Dunedin is really happening everywhere however PHU always is getting better student each year due to its IB program so that covers up all of their holes. If you are not interested in the IB or don't get into it PHU is in no way worth it at all. I hope this review gives you a little more insight into the school system if you are searching for a school for your child or if you are an alum looking back on your old high school hopefully this gives you insight into the situation here.

As soon as we made contact with the Waldorf School of Tampa Bay, we knew that we had found something unique. My son and I were introduced to the school through the Merrily We Meet parent/child classes, taught by one of the most delightful educators you'll ever meet - Ms. Connie. She provides a beautiful introduction to Waldorf education through modeling, singing, simple handwork, puppetry, article/book discussions, and so much more! If you are interested in learning more about Waldorf education, this is such a lovely way to start. I will forever treasure the early days when I was able to attend class with my son! I shared everything I learned with my husband, who did some more research and went to tour the school with me. We saw the campus (it's magical), talked to the administration and faculty, asked tons of questions about curriculum and safety and social emotional well-being, and left the tour feeling so relieved that we had found a school where we felt our son could have the space and guidance to thrive; not just academically, but also physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Fast forward to the end of our son's first year in the early childhood program and we cannot be happier. He is excited to go to school every morning. He has lots of free play inside and outside, circle time, a healthy and hearty organic snack prepared by his teachers, and plenty of opportunities to socialize in different settings - from outside in the sandbox, to inside playing with toys, to around the table sharing a meal. He loves his teachers, and we do too! They have been very helpful in sharing ways that we can support our son's first year in school. We treasure the fact that they honor our son's current stage of childhood and respect him as a unique individual. In addition to our son's day to day happiness with his teachers and classmates, we have learned what it means to participate in a school that nurtures not only it's children, but entire families! We have had many opportunities to become involved in our school community through the parent council and through monthly parent education sessions presented by various teachers. Topics are always inspiring and range from nourishing a child's imagination, to how art feeds science, to creating loving boundaries, and many more. We have felt so welcomed and respected by the entire community throughout our first year as a Waldorf family. And we've learned a lot, too! In summary, my child is safe, well cared for, and respected at his school. His teachers know what is developmentally appropriate for his age and for him as a person, and they guide him accordingly. The teachers, administrators, and parents all support each other and the result is this peaceful, thriving, magical little community beneath the oak trees in Palm Harbor, FL. A place where learners are exposed to rigorous academics alongside the arts, plenty of time to explore and play and move their bodies, instruction in multiple languages, hands-on experiences, and countless opportunities to think critically. And I'm so glad that we get to be a part of it!

But, I must CONFIRM their accuracy as someone who's mentored there. It's NO SURPRISE to me that DH's ranking has dropped considerably under Principal Johnson. I give a one star review for the few good teachers left. Those who CARE about their students. Otherwise, if I could, I wouldn't give it any stars. THE PAST: After winning the Mentor of the Year Award about eight years ago (under a previous administration), getting 10 of my DH mentees/writers published (including a two week show of their work at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art) -- my students and I felt PROUD. However, regardless of those accomplishments, today I wouldn't mentor at DH. Sadly, it's not the school it once was. THE PRESENT: Former employees have told me that several current employees are looking for positions elsewhere. No wonder. Principal Johnson has been the cause of disharmony, disappointment, and distress among staff, students, and parents since he took office. Many voiced in the detailed reviews posted. THE CONTACT: Thankfully, I've had minimal contact with him. As a veteran Senior PR Counsel, published author, and business owner I have a good working knowledge of what it takes to run and promote an organization and its people. DH VS OTHER SCHOOLS: After volunteering at many North Pinellas high schools, interacting with other principals, Kyle Johnson is by far one of the worst in the system. He's brought the school's reputation to an all-time low. I used to be proud of my accomplishments at DH, especially helping students in writing and publishing. But now, sadly, I'm ASHAMED to mention my past volunteer efforts there. I live in Dunedin, within walking distance from the school, but I'd rather travel 40 minutes to another school where my mentoring efforts are appreciated and SUPPORTED by staff, teachers, parents, and students.
