This bus service is not what I'd call reliable. Ive been taking this bus twice a day for two years and the schedule can be unpredictable at times (late busses, breakdowns especially in bad weather). Also, there are only two tempatures on these busses, cold and freezing. Anyway, I don't usually post on yelp I just wanted to adress this one recent incident... On monday nov. 18. Academy bus # 8683 the 7:05am from willingboro/westampton to midtown nyc. The bus driver hit another vehicle and did not stop. A passanger got up to tell her that she hit a truck and she slowed down and seemed to be looking at the cars passing but she still didn't stop. I think this needs to be addressed, its unaceptable. ***update*** Today friday nov. 22 the 5:25am bus from willingboro/westampton was cancelled. There is no replacement bus. We are forced to wait out in the cold for another 20 mins until the next bus comes. Now I'll be late for work. Like I said before this is not service you can rely on and because this is the only ny bus service in my area I am looking to move out of nj because simply put, I need to get to work everyday....also, the people waiting for the 5:45 bus did not all fit on the bus because the people from the 5:25 bus were on there so unfortunately some people had to miss two busses. read more

I downloaded this app to specifically speak about this experience. FIRST OF ALL....I booked and paid for my tickets with academy. They send me an email saying they moved my time to 12pn because my original 1pm was sold out. When I call to request the 230 she said I'm all set. That was yesterday, Saturday. So here we are today Sunday I get to the bus and show my ticket and it's actually set for 230 YESTERDAY December 28 when originally everything was for the 29. So today I call their office and the most unprofessional rachet manager answered the phone and hung up on me because I was panicked and the bus was going to leave me. I called back and got everything settled. I hung up without saying thank you because she was nothing but rude but my issue was resolved. She calls me back from a fake number to tell me again they fucked up and now I'm on the 225 not the 230 like she just said and then says "YOUR WELCOME YOUR WELCOME I SHOULD HAVE HUNG UP LIKE THE FIRST TIME". im not disrespectful but I don't tolerate stupidity at all and this was stupid and such an easy fix. There's a reason they have such low ratings. Trust me, and if the manager or dispatcher who ever is on today 12-29-19 around 2:15pm i hope you got to read this. I would normally reserve five stars for REALLY awesome stuff, but I have NO complaints about Academy Bus. Their website is easy to use and it's the same price as standing in line at Port Authority the DAY OF for Greyhound tickets, but you can buy them in advance. Booya, Greyhound. The seats were soft and comfortable. When we got off, they handed us each $20 in cash and a coupon for an all-you-can-eat $10 casino buffet at Tropicana (because that was our hotel). The only downer was that they had canceled many of their returning buses, but ah... it gave us time to chill and play more. The rides coming and going were smooth, and I just could not get over the $20 cash they gave us. For a $35 roundtrip, that's like we only paid $15. Awesome. I would ride Academy to Atlantic City again in a heartbeat. read more

On the way back, count yourself lucky if you can manage to get on a bus without missing 3-4 buses. If I could give negative stars I would. My husband and I decided to take one of the casino buses to Atlantic City on Sunday. The $40 RT which includes $25 in free slot play seemed like a great deal. But there are so many problems. We arrived by 11:15 to catch the 12:00 bus which we purchased tickets for. We stood in line at the gate and was told by agent around 12:00 that the bus "Would definitely be late." He couldn't give any other details or a time estimate. So we stood in line for another hour. As 1:00 approached and the crowd for the 1:00 bus arrived, it became clear that they had canceled the 12:00 bus in order to have a full 1:00 bus. That makes sense, but it would have been great to know that it was a possibility ahead of time, especially since the last bus back on Sundays leaves at 5:00 p.m. You can't reserve your return trip ahead of time, so you just have to hope that you can get on the bus that you'd like to catch. When you book your ticket to AC, the return schedule is not on the same page and there isn't any warning that taking an afternoon bus means you will need to spend the night since there's no way you can catch the last bus on Sunday evening and make the trip worth your while. Because the bus we originally wanted to take was canceled, we didn't arrive in Atlantic City until close to 4:00. Luckily, we had already decided to stay over night. The bus itself was fine, except that the air conditioning wasn't working and the bus driver kept the heat blasting for about an hour into the ride. He finally agreed it was too hot and opened the windows in the ceiling. The rest of the trip was fine. The $25 free slot play wasn't clearly explained, but that is really the casino's fault. It seemed like we didn't get to keep our winnings from that and had to play it through before cashing out. Just make sure you get better details before you play. Some of the return buses were also "late" and so we waited in line for two hours for the 3:00 bus instead of catching the 2:00. There was no organization and very little information from the workers at the bus center. The trip itself was fine. All of the cancelations, the lack of information, and the disorganization really adds stress to the trip. We do not recommend this bus at all. read more

First and last time using Academy to go to Atlantic city. On the morning we were heading home, we arrived at the Taj Mahal 30 minutes before the bus was supposed to depart. There was a line of about 300 people waiting for one bus. We decided to walk to Caesars and catch the 1:30 bus. When we arrived 45 minutes before the bus was supposed to depart, there was a mess of people on line. Some of them were going to the greyhound bus, some the academy, but nobody was around to let us know where to go. Finally, a full bus arrived at 1:30. The driver came out to let 4 people on and inform the other 80 people that "there is an empty bus coming in 40 minutes!" And left. It is now an hour later and no bus has arrived. A call was places to academy and we were informed that "the replacement bus hasn't left the depot yet and the Taj Mahal bus is full now, so stay where you are". When there were too many people for the greyhound bus, they had a second bus here within 15 minutes. If you are leaving from the port authority I STRONGLY advise that you stay away from academy and spend the extra few bucks on greyhound. They actually seem to care about their customers. read more

Absolutely zero complaints. I took this from NYC to Lincroft at 4:00 PM on a Wednesday. So... right when traffic would be getting bad. There were absolutely no problems. The ride was smooth, it was under twenty bucks, and I got to Lincroft at 4:55. It was precise up to the minute. No one was rude, no one was talking loudly on the phone, and I got a good seat. Wayyyyy better than schlepping on NJ Transit or on various local buses. Cheaper than the ferry. AND they had free wireless on board. I'll definitely use them again! read more

I took the noon Academy Go Bus from NYC to Boston with my 2 kids & cousin this past Tuesday. I was apprehensive traveling by bus with kids and chose this over Bolt Bus & Mega Bus for 3 reasons: significantly lower cost, less negative reviews and the ability to stop in Newton or Cambridge. I am so glad I went on Academy Go Bus & would recommend it to anyone. I give it a 3 stars because of the confusing boarding & location issues in NYC & spotty wifi coverage which annoyed my kids. Others have complained the boarding location on W30th is confusing and frustrating. I called no less than 3 times trying to narrow it down because my taxi companies wanted a specific address. No employee could give me an answer other than W30th St between 9th AV & 10th AV. Aargh!!! We were in the cab heading east (one way street) on W30th with lots of traffic heading closer to 9th and still seeing nothing. I was panicking with 2 kids, but grateful my Paisa Taxi driver Marcos wasn't going to stop in the middle of the street and say get out. Finally I saw buses parked facing the opposite direction on the other side of a small median. How difficult would it have been to say there's a small street Dyer which is immediately north of W30th st median and only on the right half of the block closer to 9th AV. Which feeds into an alley for Lincoln Tunnell. Marcos let us out on the north side of W30th on the sidewalk median. Kids and I crossed Dyer to the fence where there were lines of 10 people. Found the one for Boston by asking passengers. Eventually saw an employee who confirmed I was in the correct line. Check in was easy showed my phone. Bus was delayed so I had time to grab lunch at 9th AV Deli (recommended by 2 passengers behind us) on southeast corner of W30th & 9th. Delicious made to order sandwiches & bagels! Bus eventually arrived, baggage collected underneath and separated by Newton or Cambridge, we boarded & left. There's small overhead space for narrow luggage. Seats are bus seats nothing more, nothing less. Has seat belts which is a plus for me because I am the CA mom who's a safety nazi. Wifi was spotty. I didn't see any outlets but u made sure all our devices were fully charged before we left my aunts in Queens. There's a bathroom but I didn't use it. My cousin tried said it was clean but she left because the bus was too shaky. The drive was smooth & driver courteous. We left late but arrived early in Newton & then Cambridge. Easy to get into Boston from either stop by subway. I'd take this bus again in a heartbeat! read more

My husband and I had first called the company as well as the pick up location to verify the schedule for the Academy Bus going to the Mohegan Sun. On the following morning (Sun. 5/13/2018) we got to the pick up location 15 min. earlier than the scheduled time of departure only to be told that the company (Academy Tours) had just called to cancel the bus ride!! I was meeting friends in Atlantic City and only needed a one way ticket but I wanted to get dropped off at a casino opposed to arriving alone at the AC bus terminal so I purchased a round trip ticket on the Academy website. Afterwards, I foolishly googled Academy and ended up reading some horrible past reviews about this bus line and second guessing my decision. However, I have no complaints about my experience. I took an 8 AM bus which dropped me off at Caesars Casino. I arrived at port authority a half hour early. A worker was at the window whom was pleasant and helpful, she gave me my bus ticket in exchange for my printed voucher. I was told to wait on a separate line by another worker because I had a reservation and anyone with reservations would board ahead of the riders who only got their tickets that day. Everything and everyone was organized. The driver was very nice and drove safe, no one on the bus was rude or rowdy and we arrived at Caesars 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Now all that being said, I cannot say if my experience would have been the same had I taken a later bus and I cannot comment on a return trip. But, all in all, if I ever have to do this again, I wouldn't have a problem with using Academy. read more

Academy Bus was a nightmare returning from Atlantic City. Yesterday the 4pm bus did not arrive at the Resort because it went to pick up the group of people that were not able to board the 3pm bus at another casino. We were told to wait for the 8pm bus that also did not have the capacity for the number of people waiting. The employee at the desk of the Resort bus station told me it was not Resort's problem to intervene and help out. I will never again gamble at the Resort or use the Academy bus. read more

BUYER BEWARE. This company is HORRIBLE. Little to no customer service. When we got ahold of them about our broken down bus( I use WHEN with great emphasis because It took 45 minutes to even get anybody to answer our calls. Even the driver couldn't get hold of them) they lied on many different occasions. First they said they were sending a bus and then they said they were fixing the old bus. Interchanging stories and told us '10 minutes' every time we called. Their shenanigans made us cut out a trip and 20 minutes late to our play. They had no clue what they were doing. Purchased a round trip ticket from NYC to Atlantic City. Trip down was without incident, taking a little over 2 hours, however returning to NYC the next day was a nightmare which lasted over 7 hours. Arrived at bus terminal at Caesar's nearly an hourly early to catch the 1:15pm bus, which never came. Dozens of passengers were stranded with no signs, announcements, phone numbers or updates from Academy. The schedules we had all been given when buying our tickets showed that the next buses would be departing from Tropicana at 2pm and 3pm, so dozens of abandoned passengers then took taxis over to Tropicana. Passengers' frustrations kept growing and reached a new peak when security had to be called to remove one woman who had newly arrived at the bus terminal and was trying to cut in line in front of all those passengers who had already been waiting in line for hours. We never saw a 2pm or 3pm bus at Tropicana, but finally a bus arrived at 3:25pm. We finally got into NYC around 8pm. It was incredible that during this entire fiasco, Academy had no method in place to communicate its bus cancellations. They had no rep or updates provided at either bus terminal, nor was there a phone number for any of the passengers to call for information. Very poor customer service. read more

I'll give you the details of what happened and let you make up your mind. Three days ago (28th of July) we were due to be picked up by an Academy Bus at 9:15pm from the financial district in New York. The bus arrived at 10:26pm, apparently because the driver went to an address in Brooklyn instead (despite the address clearly saying New York and having a New York postcode). Then the bus driver drove around in circles for an hour because he didn't know that that FDR Drive in Manhattan is not open to commercial vehicles. At 11:45 we drove through the financial district, right past where we started. That's two and a half hours after the scheduled pickup time. Then on the way back to Kingston the bus driver told us there were less than 5 miles left of gas in the tank, and that we were about to run out. We then needed to pull out maps to help him try to find a gas station. Luckily we found one a few miles later. Close call! Also, throughout the trip the airconditioning was unbelievably cold, and despite repeated requests for the airconditioning to be put at a reasonable temperature, this did not occur. According to the bus driver, it was not possible to have the temperature inside at a reasonable temperature because otherwise he would not be able to see out the windows. As such, everyone on the bus was left shivering and freezing for 5 hours. According to the Academy website, they provide the smoothest ride on the road, the best customer service, on-time service, and the highest quality vehicles. If Academy actually cares about their consumers and the quality of service they provide, they would offer an apology and/or compensation. So far neither has been received. It seems that Academy views that a two hour delay, freezing temperatures, and running out of gas are "the highest quality customer service". Any reasonable person would disagree. read more

I am writing to complain about your driver Rafael Sargeant. He was extremely unprofessional not knowing the directions to our drop off location, sexually suggestive (which made me feel uncomfortable), and took inappropriate risks when driving. When he arrived, I informed him that we were still wrapping things up and that we would be about an hour late. He said that was ok and asked me if the ice tea I was drinking was tequila. Shocked I stated that no it was not, this was a student trip and no one was drinking alcohol. He then stated asked if I was a student, smiled and licked his lips. I told him that I was a staff member and left to return to the group. Once we left he informed my colleague that he did not have the directions to our drop off point. My colleague informed him that he could lead him to NYC, but did not have directions from there. One we got to the city the driver got lost and ended up taking us to queens (we were supposed to be in the lower east side). When I instructed him that he was going the wrong way, he said that I should have told him that before and it was my job to give him (the driver) directions. Once we were in the city, he drove inappropriately, at one point taking a wild turn. We everyone in the bus exclaimed he turned to my male colleague and said is "that how you do it when you drive" and laughed. Even factoring in for traffic and our delayed start, we were two hours late. I have never been so disgusted or disrespected by a driver. I am sending a copy of these remarks to the Dean at NYU and will do everything in my power to advocate that NYU cancel its contract with Academy. read more

Six hours to get to Atlantic city Soooooo disappointed our bus to Atlantic city was scheduled to leave at 1pm. I got to the port authority at 11:45 am to get all the info and lines with hopes of doing things without to much hassle or rush of being late. I get on line and the cashiers were changing shifts at the ticket window by gate one checked printed my tickets that was ok she didn't tell us the 1 o'clock bus was canceled they had a one paper in pink marker stating the bus was canceled and come a 2pm so still I was optimistic and thought well it's just n hour I'll go get lunch right up stairs n use the bathroom. I get back a lot of ppl where there so I worried cause the line was extremely big I thought to my self all these ppl will fit on this one bus I went back to the ticket window and the cashier assured me no worries be cause we had bought tickets in advance and had a reservation. Ok so I patiently sat down and waited so finally the bus pulls in at 1:55pm and the bus driver calls all reserved ticket guest first to board the bus so we go to him he checks our tickets and we proceed to put our luggage in the storage bunker and go on the bus to sit. Eventually as all the ppl are getting on I hear a lot of angry disagreements from the other ppl boarding and the issue seemed to be academy was putting two different bus time guest all into that one 2pm bus. Smh. So we are know sitting in the back vicinity of the bus patiently waiting to get on the road and the bus driver comes to the back of the bus and says I'm sorry but I need three ppl to get up we have reserved guest that need to be on this bus. So he then asks who came one this bus at port authority stop a Bunch of us raise our hands but I didn't panic cause we too had reservation n then he proceeds to say I need three ppl to get off . No one volunteered . So he said ppl don't make me pick. So a second later he tells me my husband sister n brother in law to get up. I kindly reinforced that we had reservation he put his cap to the the side and said not my problem. I was devastated we go back n forth pleading for our stop he addressed us very rudely and said take the three pm bus (which was late super hot n no bathroom) opposed to the bus we were ready on had to go get our luggage I went the the ticket window again and asked if she can kindly explain to the bus driver that we are reserved and had been there before all of the other guest she rudely said no and that she can't do nothing I was shocked cause I was super nice opposed to all the other irrational guest she had to deal with just due the the rescheduling from 1pm to 2pm so I asked for a supervisor and i was told there wasn't one and we got to Atlantic city at 6:30 pm n we had special dinner reservation at 7pm on the other side of Atlantic city and with not even checking in to our hotel yet. Divers for the most part are pleasant, however the Union Hill bus fare is going up and Academy is providing LESS service. Academy is losing drivers to NJ Transit. NJ Transit should have a route that travels Route 9 to Wall Street. It's getting to the point that I would rather find an alternative route than take Academy! We bought tickets to Tropicana casino from an authorized agent situated on Hylan plaza (Staten Island). For the round trip on Sunday June 30. We departed from the Hylan plaza. On our back trip home, the driver of the Academy bus refused to take us to that plaza. He dropped us on Richmond Rd/ Narrows Rd. He said "he wants us to be removed from bus", even though we said we have no metro card to get home, and our car was left on the Hylan plaza. We cannot understand what kind of "round trip" is that, when you depart from one place and arrived at different without any prior notice. The attitude of the driver was unprofessional, and ridiculous. My husband has high blood pressure, and he felt really bad after all has happened. The bus number was 1839. This trip was on Sunday, June 30. We want to clarify this situation, and understand if we deserved to be treated like that read more

I think this may be a scam. They overbook their buses and then, after people take greyhound or megabus or another alternative, they do not refund. This happened to me twice (out of 6 trips). Last time was last week, when the bus had only 8 free seats when it arrived at Port Authority (to Atlantic City). The next bus was two and a half hours later and I was worried it would be full, too. So I took a NJ transit bus, but so far haven't managed to get a refund from Academy. Don't do it... I won't do it again... read more

Beware: as if bus travel wasn't antiquated enough, this is perhaps the last outfit in the world who requires printed receipts for web purchases. Of course they don't tell you this until after your online purchase is complete. If you don't have a printer and don't have time to go elsewhere to print, the window lady will gladly (and by gladly I mean gruffly and with obvious disdain for all things green and convenient) to some pizza place across the way to sit next to perverts and pay $7.00 to print your ticket on a paid public computer. This all for the privilege of sitting on a rickety bus next to some lady eating chicken wings out of crumpled tin foil (which is supposed to be against the rules of the bus) going on and on about how much she intends to win playing the slots. Stood on the bus for 3 hours from Atlantic City to Port Authority. The bus should stop at Harrah's resort at 8pm, then stop at Taj Mahah at 8:15pm. We wanted to be sure to have seats so we waited at Harrah's resort, which should be the first stop, but the bus didn't come at all. When we called them, they said they already left from Taj Mahah and the bus is full. The bus came back and pick us up at 8:50pm. There were 8 people waiting at Harrah's resort but only 6 seats left so we stood on the bus. The attitude of the bus company was terrible, even threatened to call the police, and didn't gave us the money back. read more

I use x 23/24 to commute to/from Manhattan. Compared to MTA, these buses are 1000 times better. Drivers actually try to get you to work faster. What really annoys me is passengers' rudeness. I don't mind people speaking on the phone or to each other, but the rest of us shouldn't be forced to listen to loud private conversations. They don't seem to realize that a bus is not their living room. Academy used to have a golden rule: only use the phone in an emergency and when you speak, speak softly. Another thing: is 1.5 seat occupancy by one person - especially males. It is wonderful (or not) that the size of their testicles will evoke envy from an elephant, but the rest of us shouldn't be squeezed in because of inconsiderate jerks spreading their legs. I would appreciate if Academy made some rule concerning these things. read more

Cancelled after an hour and a half in the pouring rain and wind--no notification for 45 minutes. Dashed to another casino in the lousy weather on the "chance" there would be room. Waited 2 hours outside there. Wet and frozen, but made it on. Air conditioning on for whole trip making the temperature a nightmare. No Wifi. Bus was 20 minutes late, to boot. Comunter service to Manhattan is Terrible, disgusting buses, they leave you stranded on the bus stop for hours. They could care less what the schedule says. They ignore complaints. Even if you call before hand to see if a bus is running. They just lie to you on the phone and say yes. They have stranded me more times than I can count. While boarding bus 8833 the 10pm out of ceasars ac to nyc on wednesday december 2nd the bus driver was very rude to my family and I. After taking our tickets we boarded the bus as usual and after all 11 passengers boarded the driver boarded they bus yell in a rude tone "hey hey hey who has all this luggage out here. Whos luggage is this?" Although his demeanor was in appropriate I raised my hand and stated ours. There were three of us and there were three suitcases 2 of which were 19 inches which are the smallest even allowed as airplane carryons and one was 26 inches a medium size. After I identified the luggage as ours he proceeded to loudly mock me by stating "all of this? All of this? All these suitcases are yours?". I stated yes there are 3 of us 1 suitcase each 2 small and one medium. He continued to stand in the front of the bus stating "so whats supposed to happen with all of this?" I asked if there was a problem we have been riding academy for years and it has always been that we leave our bags at the side of the bus and the driver loads them and we tip him appreciatively when we arrive at 85th st. He states again "all of this?" And just stands there looking at me with a very nasty look. (Referring to the 3 suitcase) My father then proceeded to state that its no problem he will do it and he exited the bus in order to put the suitcases under the bus. The driver could be heard yelling while outside the bus still complaining about the suitcase after my father already placed them onboard himself. I feel as a long standing academy customer this behavior was very unprofessional and did not represent the academy level of class. I felt very insulted that he behaved in this manner. I also didnt understand why it mattered whos bags they were. If the issue was that the driver did not want to load the bags he could have calmly.and respectfully stated whomever has luggage on the curb please place it under the bus. I felt like he purposely had to identify who the luggage belonged to prior to making his rude comments. I felt both disrepected and discriminated against. I have been a continuous academy customer as well as several members of my family and this experience is truly upsetting. He was out of line for speaking to a customer in such a way and for putting on such a nasty perfomance with his words and actions. His demeanor will have me reconsider my travel options in the future. read more

I planned a trip to AC and being a very organized person I wanted to purchase my bus ticket in advance. The bus makes two stops in NYC, one on 85th street and one at the port authority. On their website the only option to purchase a ticket was for the port authority stop. Being a responsible and experienced traveler I called the company before I purchased the ticket to make sure they would honor it at the 85th st stop since it was more convenient for me to get to. They assured me that it would be okay. I arrived at 85th candy shop the morning of the trip and was told by the clerk that he could not exchange the voucher I received from purchasing the tickets online for the actual ticket...... Why, I do not know. He said it would be up to the bus driver to take it or not. The bus arrived and the driver told me that she could not take the ticket and that I had to go to the port authority and get on the bus there. Therefore I had to take an expensive cab ride across town in the rain to the port authority to redeem my ticket and board the same exact bus. I am very disappointed in this service especially since I called the company prior to purchasing the ticket to avoid this exact situation. There is really no excuse for this. Clearly the person who answered the phone at the company did not know the policies and thus made this trip more expensive and stressful than it needed to be. read more

We chartered 2 coach buses for our wedding. The buses were nice, new, and clean. The drivers were professional. The main reason I used them was because they are local in Hoboken and I trusted they would know how to drive through the narrow streets. They were able to maneuver well. My only complaint...and a major one for my guests...was that they didn't take the directions provided and instead got stuck trying to cross the Holland tunnel entrance/exit from Jersey City to Hoboken. My directions had them going a different way. It took 45 minutes to go 2 miles. The busses arrived (with all 120 guests) just at the start time of the wedding. It was a near miss/late start but it worked out in the end. The other thing I didn't love was that the driver didn't pick up the trash left in the bus before the return trip home. Since they are more expensive than other companies I would have expected them to have done a walk through before the buses re-boarded at the end of the night. read more
