We had a new garage door installed last week. They arrived on time and were professional. They called to let me know they were on their way and it was definitely at the time the appointment was made for. I work from home so couldn't see what was finished from anything but the inside. Later in the day, I went outside to walk the dog and I saw that the front of the door did not have a handle or a lock it was just a plain door. When the gentleman came to give an estimate I told him it had to look like my neighbors due to the darn HOA. Neither my neighbor or I needed that to be a working handle or lock but it has to look exactly like all my neighbors unfortunately. I called and they set up a time for someone to come back out to fix this right away. Today he came by, installed what was missed and it only took a few minutes. All done and I won't have to worry about our horrible HOA. I would recommend them and use them again. read more

They are extremely arrogant and overly priced. Companies are competitive these days and they don't seem to care as they trap their customers with a service fee. Once the tech gets here you have to pay the service fee and the repair so even if you try to find better pricing you won't get the deal because they won't price match and will take their service fee anyway. I called for service at about 9:30 a.m. on a weekday, and Academy said a technician would be out between 1 and 3. He was. He was thoroughly professional. He installed all new roller bearings and did some general maintenance, and the door works better--smoother and quieter-- than it ever has since we've owned the house (3 years). The cost was $270--more than I once paid a competitor (Andrew's) but for a different problem. Although I am in no position to give an expert evaluation, I can say that I received quick service and that I am thoroughly pleased with the repair. read more

On Thursday night July 9, 2015 my garage door opener failed. Without much time to research the best company for the repair, I called Sears thinking they would offer an average price and quality. Sears scheduled service the next day on Friday, between 8 and 5. I took the day off from work for this. I live in suburbia so expected that many crews would be available. I called multiple times that day to check on the status and was assured they would be coming. At the end of the day I was told they couldn't make it and was scheduled now for Saturday, also between 8 and 5. Again I called throughout the day to check the status and I was ensured they are coming. By the end of the day they did not arrive. Two of my days were wasted by Sear's bad service. If they could not guarantee service on a particular day, they should not have let me wait for those two days. They had the nerve to ask me to reschedule for a third attempt. Avoid Sears. They offer terrible service. After the experience, I asked around and others too confirmed that Sears was a bad experience and at high cost. I called Academy Door and Control in Chantilly, VA, the morning of July 13, 2015 to repair my garage door opener when Sears failed to do the job (see my negative entry on Sears). Academy Door and Control was able to send a repairman to me that afternoon. They were exceptional in their service. They went out of their way to do small things not even requested - changing the light bulb, tightening garage door bolts, making proper adjustments to the door. Their price was very affordable too. Conclusion - Never call Sears for service, and a great thank you for the outstanding service from Harry at Academy Door and Control. read more

We recently needed new garage doors and did our due diligence as it were. Costco's Door Pro was our initial thought process but we were refered to Academy Door Co. and are very happy with them and the product we got was better than what we would have gotten thru the Costco choice from Door Pro and their installation team of Luis and company were terrific. In and out in under an hour and a half for two doors. So much quieter and much more solid than our old wooden doors and track. Am very happy we chose them. A friend recommended Academy. I called this AM because the spring broke on my door. They said they could come out today and gave me a quote for parts and labor. I told them it was the first place I called and I needed to call a couple of other places. They gave me an extra 10% off labor and said they would be the best price. They were right! Most places wanted $30-$80 more and some places would only give me a ballpark figure with a high and low difference in price of $70. Mario from Academy arrived within the timeframe they gave me. He was courteous and got right to work. I also had him install a keypad outside the door and he synced my garage door openers and everything. All done in less than 30 min. read more

If I could give lower than 1 star I absolutely would. Had a new opener installed. A week later their office called and said the card number the technician wrote down was wrong and to call them back. I called back a short time later with no answer. Over a month later I called a second time and left another message to pay. Finally I called a 3rd time and they say "oh yeah we have been trying to call" yet my phone never rang once nor any messages left. Horrible customer service in their office. Technician was anazing but there office staff is the worst I've ever delt with. I will NEVER use this company again and highly recommend you do not as well! I had 3 companies come out to give me estimates on replacing my garage door. Costco was one of the 3 and they never bothered to call me back, even when I told Costco that they're subcontractor never called me back. Academy won my business because of their rep John, who has been there for 30 plus years. That explains why he was knowledgeable and professional. But what he did that impressed me was that he went out of his way to fix my old garage door to retract for safety reasons. Great company and I definitely would recommend them. read more

My garage door broke down today. I called my previous garage door repair shop. Nobody answered the phone. I left a message and for two hours no one called back. So I went to Yelp and found Academy Door. A lady picked up the phone instantly. She was very acommodating and arranged a technician to visit at 1:30pm on the same day. The technician, Jared, came right on time after finishing two jobs in Ashburn. He was polite and obviously very knowledgeable about his trade. It took about 30 minutes to replace two springs and the wheels. He even offered to replace the cable wire without cost. The garage door was humming smoothly again. I was genuinely impressed. So I gave Academy Door a 5-star rating. Hope they can keep up their good work. read more

We moved into our house over a year ago and were not sure of the maintenance history/if the previous owners took good care of the garage doors. Sure enough, despite squirting garage door grease on the hardware, one of the doors started developing a loud squeak over time. And finally, last week, the sprocket on the motor broke and the chain came loose. I went back and forth on which company to call and eventually decided to go with Academy after a referral from a neighbor...and also finding their sticker in the garage. I scheduled a Saturday service appointment a few days in advance and they were able to fit me in no problem. The scheduling process was painless and professional. And on Saturday morning, Mario from Academy came by on schedule (and in the early part of the time window). After checking over the opener, Mario identified the problem right away and went to work taking apart the opener and replacing the sprocket assembly with a new unit which he had on hand. Afterwards, he did maintenance on both garage doors (including the one which had no problems) which included greasing all the hinges, joints, chains, etc. and then adjusting the cables. Mario performed the service quickly and professionally and was finished in no time. Overall, I've been happy with the service I received from Academy and Mario and will not hesitate to call them again. read more

Once I requested an estimate for a new garage door online (and I did it on a Saturday afternoon) I promptly received a call from Alan at Academy Door and & Control. Alan was extremely professional and asked me key questions before he made arrangements to have a representative stop by my home to provide an estimate. The following Monday David arrived on time, was very polite, provided excellent advice on a new door, and gave an estimate that was extremely reasonable. Got our garage door repaired today. Both the springs were broken. The technician (Henry ?) came on time and gave me heads about about 30 minutes before he was to reach . Was very courteous and explained the fix. Took less than an hour and the price was very reasonable, I did call up almost all the local garage door repair experts , before calling Academy. Also, got a small discount on labor using the coupon on their website. On the whole a very good experience. I hope I don't have to call them again in the near future, but they will have all my garage related business, for sure. read more

Despite the fact that they had done work on my existing garage door--they had some other guy listed as the owner of my home--even they could not figure this out. I had difficulties getting an estimate from Alan. When I personally asked the Sam, the GM, to give me someone else to handle replacement of my garage door, he said no. What can I say but WOW! I called this company after reading someone else's review that was disappointed wtih a different company and said, "Try Academy instead." I was almost in tears and the secretary, who also seemed very well-educated in the garage door business/vernacular said, "I'm going to put you through to John Williams who has been doing this a very long time." What a blessing that was. John Williams is just the best service professional I've worked with in a LONG time--someone with true skill and knowledge in his field, as well as, prompt and efficient. He is one of those old-fashioned craftsmen who actually gets out his ruler and does the work required to truly complete the job that needs to be done INSTEAD of just telling you it can't be done and you need new doors and by the way, we sell these amazing doors at great prices and I just so happen to have some right here in my van for this price. That kind of "businessman" is really preying upon innocent consumers who may be a little desperate to just get it done and pay any price to do so.
