Go to the store or shop on line. They buy CD's and vinyl. Posted 01/21/21

Academy Records W. 18th Street Street NYC! Support local businesses. This review is for Vic my favorite Yelp Vinyl Collector! Order on line. Music Legends area of Manhattan has places like this historic record shop. If you haven't visited it's a must for any collector. I like to browse. Many of the music shops have closed over the years. I haven't been here since Covid. I'm hoping they survive. I could hang out listening to the music for hours. Price is no object if you find what you're looking for. I'm sure they can check their other location too. If you don't find what you're looking for ask. They're very knowledgeable and helpful!

I love Academy Records!  I don't have a vinyl player, but I have a Blu-Ray DVD player.  Call me crazy but I love mine.  This store has used DVDs and I loooooooooooooooooove browsing their selection, which changes all the time.  Their DVDs are mostly in pretty decent condition and their always priced accordingly.   The staff is nice and pretty helpful.

What a great experience it is to shop at Academy. The stores is on 18th in the Flatiron district so I've never been there before, but I wish I had... Upon entering I was greeted and then asked if I could use some help. It felt like a genuine interest so I mentioned a few artists I'm always in the market for. The clerk stopped what he was doing and went to work on the computer digging through what he had catalogued. To my surprise they had a couple of titles on my all-time must have list. This isn't why I give 5 stars though. The titles were in a storage facility several blocks away. The clerk called to see if someone was available to bring them over. The "runner" was out and not available. He said I could come back in a day or so and they would have them in store. When I thanked him for checking and explained I was traveling and only here for the next 30 minutes or so he went over to whom I believe was the owner/manager. The next guy walks over and asks a couple of questions, then tells me to hold on. 20 minutes later I was checking out with my 2 items. They literally had someone go get them from an off-site storage, during the middle of the day, in Manhattan! Unreal customer service... wish I could shop here every day... Anyway, the the store is clean, organized and well lit. The vinyl is up front when you walk in and you can expect new releases from Ride to Robert Johnson and everything in between. Used titles were mostly classic rock with some 80's mixed in. All vinyl was in VG+ condition and were sold in a protective sleeve. Pricing was right on point for quality. It does seem that many of the shoppers were browsing the used CD's (lots of World Music) and the used Blu-rays. All in all I highly recommend. Check their store on Discogs and call ahead for your order so it can ready for you...

There is really very little to complain about here. Sure, the staff cracks jokes about their very own clientele, but if you want a healthy selection of classic rock, jazz and classical, all for prices averaging less than ten dollars, this is the place to go. They have a cheapies section consisting of four dollars or less CDs, with some nice cuts in Rock, Pop, Metal, Classical, Jazz, and Hip Hop. In addition, their vinyl selection is fairly sizable, and they have a Blu-Ray selection rich in both blockbuster and arthouse films. (Many used Criterion releases too) Overall, a great place to go if you're looking for anything music related, and don't want to break your wallet.

Ask the Community - Academy Records & CDs

How much does academy records pay for used CD I have that are still in the cases and in good condition. They are mostly R&B soul and Pop from 80'and later Also can they pick them up from my apartment uptown I have about $400-500 .I think, Thanks?

Just guessing, I'd say that they wouldn't buy all of them and might only pay 1-2 dollars for the ones they do want. Pay a visit to the store and see how low the prices are on the same titles you have and you'll see why.

Buying and Selling at Book Off What a cool store. So much to…read moresee. Unfortunately, it is lousy to sell at and expensive to buy at. First, Selling. I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.

These two characters; as well, as the actors played well off each other.  Seeing the behind the scenes would be a real treat.  Especially the sexual situations between them for the first time.  It was one of the funniest things that happened in the story. Hiromi Kawabe or Ms. Tsuchiya as I will be calling for the rest of this review,  has done a number of other voice acting jobs.  I will name a few of them.  EVA in "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" (VG) (Japanese)                 EVA in "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker" (VG) (Japanese)) Flint in "Monsters at Work" (animated series) (Japanese) Tsuchimugo in "Sakura Taisen 2: Kimi, Shinitamou koto Nakare" (VG) (Japanese) Maybe you have heard of some of these titles. It would seem that the name of Binetsu Shokogun or Slight Fever Syndrome  isn't on the list of Animation movies, but there are probably many I don't know about. It does seem to matter if the Animation is Adult Erotica or Regular Animation.    Voice Acting is Voice Acting.   Still I find porn whether it be Anime Porn with comedy or Adult Porn with comedy in it to be an unbeatable combination.    When comedy enters into porn, you are likely to get better porn acting...and yes, there are porn actors who can actually act. Ms. Tsuchiya's voice acting will have to be one I follow more closely. Ms. Tsuchiya aka Hiromi Kawabe has a nice voice.

Located right across from Bryant Park, it's almost impossible to walk by without going in. It's usually crowded, but that's part of its charm. The store has three levels, each worth exploring. The main floor features an impressive selection of books, including bestsellers and new releases right as you walk in. The lower level is where you'll find collectibles, specialty pens, beautiful notebooks and stationery, unique gifts, even more books, and plenty of cute items that will tempt you to spend more than you planned. The book selection is excellent, although I have to admit the prices can be a bit on the higher side. The staff are always friendly, and checkout is surprisingly quick, so don't let the long lines discourage you. One thing to note: drinks aren't allowed inside, so you'll need to leave them with security before entering. If you're visiting the area or spending time around Bryant Park, I highly recommend stopping by. Whether you're a book lover or just enjoy browsing, this bookstore is absolutely worth a visit.

I simply wanted to exchange the biography, which was clearly unread, for a different one that was actually more expensive. I was happy to pay the difference. I even had the physical receipt. Both were full-price books, not discounted items. The exchange was declined under their umbrella policy. I understand having a policy in place to protect publishers, but it would be clearer to simply state "All Sales Final on Printed Materials." Instead, the language references "copyrighted materials," which suggests there may be exceptions, when in practice there are not. I want to support a neighborhood brick and mortar music shop. But when selection is limited, flexibility is minimal, and communication is inconsistent, it becomes difficult to justify staying loyal. I am disappointed to say, that I will likely purchase my scores and books elsewhere going forward. At times, the store feels oriented more toward internal or institutional purchases than toward the musicians and readers who live in the neighborhood.

I walked into a store that is essentially one large room, and the density of product on display meant navigating it during a busy period required some patience, but the selection within that compact space was broader than the size suggested. The Korean literature section covers both Korean language and English language editions across a range of genres, which makes it genuinely useful for anyone studying the language or looking for titles that are difficult to find at general bookstores in the city. I saw children's books in Korean, well stocked. The K pop side of the store covers albums, photocards, posters, keychains, stickers, and merchandise across a wide range of artists, with BTS having a particularly strong presence historically alongside newer groups. Pricing runs higher than what I would pay ordering online or finding the same items at a larger retailer, which is the standard trade off for a specialty shop in Manhattan. Album prices in particular can be steep, though sale events bring them down to more competitive territory. Individual accessory items like stickers and bookmarks are priced at a premium relative to their size, so going in with a sense of what I am willing to spend helps avoid sticker shock at the register. The store is a reliable stop for anyone looking for Korean books or K pop merchandise in a physical retail setting in New York, with the caveat that the pricing and the crowd level are both factors worth knowing about before I go.

However; the reason why I'm writing this update is because there are some changes at the store. Firstly; the large "Information Desk" at the rear of the first floor is no longer there. Instead, there's a small one on the right side of that floor (and it's almost hidden). Secondly; the huge first floor display of beautiful photo books of NYC and environs is now much smaller (although it seemed like there were more of them on the lower level than previously). There's also another change; the restrooms are now only accessible with a code, and a code can only be obtained via a receipt - so if you don't buy anything, you can't use the restroom (I ordered some books online later, since I didn't want to lug them home from the store). Further; employees don't have access to a bathroom code (obviously they have some other way to access the restrooms). I was there for a few hours - and if it wasn't for the fact that I had a dental appointment nearby afterwards, it would have been problematic. Having said that, I do realize that the restroom situation is an issue; at the Union Square store in particular, there used to be a big problem with homeless people and undoubtedly a corporate decision was made. I'm still keeping a five-star rating because of the employees and because the store has a great selection.
