In 2012 I went to Accent Dental for a consultation for cosmetic veneers. I met with Dr. Smith. He convinced me that crowns would be better. We agreed on a price of $14,000 for 9 teeth. I immediately had problems with discomfort and clenching which I never had previously. Dr. Smith tried to make me believe it was my imagination - that everything was fine. Then they made me a mouth guard because I developed TMJ. Shortly after that, I need a root canal on 8 of the 9 teeth to help relieve the pain. 8 root canals on 8 brand new crowns. I have lost count of the number of times I went to see Dr. Smith to complain about my teeth but he assured me they were fine. I have now spent over $20,000 I have had multiple dentist's opinions and they all concur that the crowns need to be replaced. It is their belief that too much tooth had been removed in preparation for the crowns and that was the cause of the pain. Additionally, I live in constant fear that the crowns will fall off. Apparently, Idue to the preparation of the teeth there was very little left of my real teeth to bond to. Because of the cost, I have not been able to replace them. So, I've been living this nightmare of constant pain for the past 10 years. I strongly do not recommend Accent Dental or Dr. Smith. I read more

Regrettably, I elected not to have any future dental work done at Accent Dental. When I am asked to sign consent forms and make payment before meeting the actual dentist who would be performing my dental work I immediately had alarm bells ringing in my head. However, my regular Hygienist was no longer there for this appointment and I was not forewarned of this prior to my appointment. I believe communication is a key element when you are serving the public in any capacity. In my case, an agency hygienist was there to clean my teeth. I was Not ok with this, being that the Covid numbers are back up and this hygienist is traveling all over Houston to different offices making it difficult to track her contacts in the event of Covid exposure.I feel there was a lack of any type of communication in this case and profit was more important than my safety/concern or feelings. Very bad service. I would not recommend this Dental group for anyone. Two reason: 1) They fix appointment 4 months in advance. If you have to re-schedule for any reason, it is impossible. You have to wait for another 3 months. If you are in a 4 month cleaning rotation, this puts off. Next time you go after 7 month, you need a deep cleaning and you have to pay out of pocket. 2) You fix appointment with the Dental hygienist, but someone will come and clean. They wont tell you until you are sitting in the chair for cleaning. Very disappointing. I am changing the Dentist right away. Want everyone to be aware of this poor service. read more

Was a long time patient here but no more. 2/4 Friday, had my regular cleaning and was told my filing was cracked. Was recommended to "fix" the crack before my tooth began to decay. 2/9 Wednesday, returned for my temporary filing. Appt was at 2, was not seen until 2:30. Anxiety was on 100% due to me having to acknowledge my awareness of the possibility of catching COVID and I am sitting in the back for 30 minutes waiting to be seen. The hold up was their ipad would not download the necessary consent forms. Interesting, because I confirmed my appointment. This should have been taken care of. 2/10 Thursday-after the numbing wears away, I was in intense pain every time I bit down to chew. Called the office in the morning and was told I could not be seen that day and would have to wait until Friday. Was told I would have to wait because they were "squeezing me in." 2/11 Friday at 8:00 a.m. I returned for them to "fix" the temp filing. I left thinking it was fixed only to get home and learn that the pain was still there when I chew. I was IRATE. When I called the office, I was told, I would have some pain because it was my permanent filing. This did not make sense. 3/2 Wednesday at 2:00 I return for the permanent porcelain filing. The assistant did not attempt to numb me when she tried to remove the temp filing. I was in intense pain. Finally, they numbed my mouth, removed the temp filing, and placed in the permanent porcelain filing. The offered manager offered me a Starbuck gift card for my troubles. 3/3 Thursday, I tried to chew, and again the pain is still there. I checked the balance on the card and it was $5.00. Talk about insult to injury. I tried calling the office to talk to the office manager about the pain and left a message. I decided it would be best for me to return in person, explain to her why I was never returning, and return the gift card. I am still in pain from the work that was not performed. But I refuse to let them attempt to "fix" it. I will find another dentist who is more competent and actually cares about their patients. There are too many options out here for patients to have to deal with pain and incompetence. read more

Cannot speak HIGHLY ENOUGH about Dr. Smith and his staff at Accent Dental! From the immaculate facility to the friendly and highly professional staff to Dr. Smith's obvious precision expertise and dental knowledge to his use of the latest, state-of-the-art technology, Accent Dental rocks! In fact, the word "rocks" is also literal and accurate because Dr. Smith seems to prefer better music than the drab, boring musak you get in some dental offices (or the horrible bubble gum pop music you get in others). It's not overbearing music at Accent, since he doesn't blast it, but it's cool classic rock that I personally enjoy. Most important though is the the fact that I've had root canals, partials, and now implants at Accent and the experience is and has been great every time. Aside from the pain of necessary shots you'll get from any dentist on the planet, Dr. Smith's work is essentially painless! He's also fast! But that speed is not at the cost of precision and quality; he just really knows his stuff! I also get regular cleanings and Magna is fantastic as well! read more

I went there for my first appointment a year ago and was told my visit would be about an hour. Two hours later I was still waiting. I was told that never happened and they are always right on time. Fast forward, my daughter went there and again 2.5 hours and a bill for 3k if she were to get what they said needed done. My son went there (covered on my insurance) and spent 2 hours. The first person came in after 30 minutes after arrival and took xrays. 30 min later someone came and counted his teeth. 30 minutes later someone came in and said it would be $600 for a cleaning and $600 to fill one cavity. I have never paid more than $300 for a cavity. When I called to discuss it the lady was very rude and said someone will call me back. No one ever did. We are filling a complaint with the insurance company and getting a new dentist read more

Terrible experience....Dr. Smith drilled past the tooth breaking off and leaving 3 drill bits protruding into the soft tissue during a root canal. Left me in horrible pain and after several consulting, I went to a different dentist to have it pulled and 3 sharp metal drill bits were pointing out of the tooth. When confronted they just denied responsibility and don't respond. This really did happen to me and I hope nobody has to go through this. He never told me he broke anything off during that procedure!!! read more

They listened to my horror story from the last place, and took their time to thoroughly check my teeth, review the x-rays, and review the listed filling recommendations from the last dentist. And guess what, not only do I not have 9 cavities, i have 0 cavities. The other dentist was lying, trying to make money off of me and my insurance. His technical and administrative staffs are friendly, professional and highly efficient. My husband and I visited Accent Dental in Pearland twice each, once for an exam, and once for a cleaning, though we did not understand that those things were scheduled separately when we showed up for our first appointment. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone. Our first appointments were on a Friday, and the staff showed absolutely no respect for our time. It seemed they were there to chat with each other rather than to work. But beyond that annoyance, I seriously question the integrity of this business. I had two wisdom teeth removed at a different dentist, and I expressed concern to Dr. Tran about my one remaining wisdom tooth (I only had 3 to start with), asking when it needed to come out. He looked at my x-ray and told me that the TWO remaining wisdom teeth needed to come out soon because they were badly impacted. Finally the assistant interrupted him to point out that I only have one remaining wisdom tooth. He was confused for a bit. I'd define knowing the number of teeth that I have as the bare minimum that I expect from a dentist. I was also told that I needed two crowns because I grind my teeth, and my husband was told that he needed 3. When he asked why he needed 3, the assistant explained that they wanted to replace one of his silver crowns for appearances, which is not something that he'd expressed that he wanted done. Needless to say, we did not get any crowns put on by them. The cleaning visit went fine, but our initial visit was so terrible that I know we will not be back. read more

I came here as a first time patient because of their Saturday hours. They did an exam and told me my teeth and gums were diseased and needed over $2,000 in treatment. I told them to go ahead with a regular cleaning and I would consider the extra work and the dentist told me she would "lose her license" if she did anything without the expensive treatments. I went back to my regular dentist who said my teeth were fine and my gums looked better than my last visit. If they try to charge you for anything more than a basic cleaning I would get a second opinion. Pushing customers into unnecessary procedures seems to be common practice here. read more

The dental clinic is very nice and very modern. Customer service sucks!! My husband and I had dental treatments here and they were fine. But then I brought my 6 year old son a few times. They they had to do cleaning, and he started to cry. The owner heard it and just kicked him out of the office saying that he will just be referred to another clinic that can "handle" kids. Saying that the other patients might be scared because he was crying. No empathy at all. No going over and beyond. When I first walked into the lobby I saw a beautiful chandelier hanging from the center of the room. The decor is very elegant. The dental assistant Nicki was so sweet and explained everything to me. The dentist was professional and did a great job... as far as having your filling done that is. I highly recommend this dental practice. The level of care I received was excellent. I have anxiety about going to the dentist as I have very sensitive gums and have left every previous dental appointment with pain and discomfort. Today, I had no pain. The hygienist was gentle and I felt very much at ease, for the first time ever. It was great! I also met with the dentist and a gums specialist to go over all my dental concerns. Dr. Smith was awesome! Very open and direct, answered all my questions. Of course they shared some expensive cosmetic dental options with me (Invisalign, Lumineers) that are not covered by my insurance, but they did not pressure me - they just supplied the information to consider. The only hiccup I experienced was with the staff. I'm sorry to say that I felt they were just a bit unprofessional when dealing with the patients as they arrived to the practice. They have such a luxurious waiting room, and it was a shame that no one was there to greet me and the billing/other admins in the back were not trained to be hospitable to patients as they checked in. The staff warmed up to me a little bit after a while, but the first impression was honestly not the best and I do feel this is an area for improvement. Went to see Dr Smith about cracked tooth for my husband. We have great dental coverage with Aetna and 0 copay for office visits, cleanings, X-rays and evaluations. This even includes palative care at 0 copay. When my husband checked out they charged him $5 for a "routine office visit" and gave him a treatment plan that was close to $2000. She told him our insurance was a discount plan, not a copay plan. I called Aetna on Monday and they said our plan was not a discount plan and the rep called Accent and explained that and also that they needed to refund the $5 as we do not pay for office visits. Period. So I get a claim in the mail where they billed insurance for $5 under an "unspecified adjunctive procedure" which is not a code in the system, therefore making it our responsibility. I have on paper from them that this was a routine office visit charge. So basically they committed insurance fraud in my opinion. Some might say well it's only $5 but it's my $5. I'm writing this as Aetna try's to explain to them again that we do not have a copay. I do not recommend dealing with them at all. Will update if they make it right. read more

I called this office on Friday to schedule an appointment for Saturday. The lady on the phone took down all my insurance info to make sure it was verified before I arrived for the appointment on Saturday. When I arrived Saturday, to my surprise my insurance benefits had not been verified. FRUSTRATING as the lady specifically said she was going to check it on Friday. They said they would do xrays to determine my problem, but could not complete any other work. So, the assistant completed the xrays and she was very nice! Then Dr. Tran came and he was a complete jerk! I am a physical therapist and he said, "Youre in the medical field, you should know." Not only was he completely rude, he made me feel like an idiot by getting out floss and a tooth brush to "teach" me how to do both. So he thought! Several comments he said to me left a bitter taste and I definitely will not be back! He is lucky I did not say that his sitting posture was horrible and go into details/exercises about how he could correct it! I may be a PT, but I am also human and have dental issues. I was there to have it fixed, not to be ridiculed about my neglect for my teeth. His bedside manner was terrible and if he continues to treat patients that way.. I recently had a check-up and Dr. Smith "strongly" recommended that I get Invisalign braces for a grinding problem at night. I've been seeing him for quite some time so I agreed and I paid $1,000 deposit. I was advised that it was unwise and unethical to place braces on a 69 year old grandfather so the following day I canceled the order and asked for a refund. Dr. Smith would only agree to giving me a 50% refund and insisted on keeping $500. for his trouble.
