Dublin, Ireland, one of my favorite cities in the world. Dublin has a coffee culture all its own. A lot of small coffee shops with outstanding Barista's. They prepare and serve up coffee as a city better than any other city in the world. Sorry Seattle, Portland, its the truth. As a full fledge coffee nerd/snob I am looking for great coffee nothing more. Also if they don't roast their own beans and they are just serving someone else's coffee they will never get above a 3 star from me. When I walked in the Barista, a pretty little red headed Irish woman was doing some spectacular latte art on a Mocha, she smiled and asked me what I would like. I order just a regular Latte. They do not roast their own beans, but she was out of coffee in the grinder, she reached for a new sealed bag and I caught the name, McCabe's. I watched the Barista, fill the grinder and then told me it would be a minute as she needed to dial in the espresso. I shook my head in a circle like I didn't get it but okay. She had it dialed in after 3 shots. looked like 18 in and 36 out. She was a pro, steamed my milk while the shot pulled in about 24 seconds. I ordered my drink to go but it was still presented with great art and a smile. Told me where the sugar and lids were but suggested I tried it before i added anything, that the espresso is very good. I tasted it and said, "You are right, needs nothing" and it didn't. BEST LATTE I HAVE HAD THIS TRIP TO DUBLIN. I am breaking my own rule here, I can because they are my rules, they don't roast but they use fantastic local Micro-roasted beans and prepare my drink to perfection. I really liked this place so much so it has motivated me to start reviewing again!! The decor and atmosphere is similar to how I would like my living room! I dont drink caffeine and the choice of herbal teas was good - so that was a great bonus! I ordered a hot chocolate a white one but when I heard the nice lady serving mention that one can have a white , milk and dark hot chocolate all in one I quickly changed my mind!! Orders where brought to your seat which was a nice touch - leaving it to the pros to tackle stairs with hot drinks in hand :) When my hot chocolate arrived it was not what I had expected - I was distracted from the conversation surrounding me as I played with my hot chocolate! So off i left the fab place with happiness only to discover when i got home that I had some chocolate on my face - thank you fellow yelpers who failed to tell me this! Hello new favourite coffee place in Dublin. The fact that it happens to be beside one of the other great coffeeshops of Dublin (Oolong) means this is one mean street for tea fanatics. The staff are friendly, the seats are comfortable as hell but the downstairs of this place is just superb. Its chill and relaxing yet buzzing with a tinge of excitement from cool patrons who are getting their caffeine fix. Giant couches adorn the place whilst a hum of nice music fills the air. This is my favourite coffe shop in town, for a multitude of reasons! Not only is it located a stone's throw from Grafton Street but it's also only a few doors up from P.Mac's, another favourite of mine. I once heard Accents described as 'Dublin's best alcohol-free pub' and this description fits it perfectly as this is exactly where I go with my friends when we want to chat in peace without the hustle and bustle of a pub, or the alcohol! The vibe in Accents is really relaxed and homely with loads of sofas, comfy chairs and blankets. The staff are always absolutely lovely and there has never been any pressure on us to move on after our coffee, in fact everyone who goes there seems to embrace the relaxed vibe and tends to stay for longer than you would in a normal coffee shop. The menu is great and they have their very popular speciality 'Dublin Smog' which is a cup of tea with a frothed milk topping. Several of my friends have opted for this but I couldn't come here and get anything other than the Hot Chocolate. A cup of frothed milk served with a saucer of chocolate chips of your choice (milk, dark or white), you can make your drink as chocolatey as you want. I didn't love it. It was on my 'to try' list for ages and I wanted to love it but I just didn't. It was an hour before closing time and the downstairs was already closed. Upstairs had exactly one spot left, not very comfy and I almost sat on some guys lap, that how close we were. I ordered hot chocolate since I read so much about it but it made me a little bit sick after. I haven't tried coffee here or anything else for that matter. Nice to try somewhere new rather than the usual places so opted for here for a change. It was quite cold outside so we sat downstairs and planted ourselves on a large leather couch. There is no shortage of comfortable coaches and a few bean bags scattered around the place. There were a few people working from here, laptops out and relaxing. The service was friendly and the stuff brought down to us. The coconut and raspberry slice was very nice but would have preferred more raspberry. Nice coffee also and good background music which added to the relaxing vibe. One thing is for sure they are not trying to cram lots of people in because the couches take up best part of the space. Saw the great reviews for this place, so I put it on my "would love to check out if there's time" list. Well, there happened to be time, so made my way over with my brother one night for he and I to catch up. We both end up ordering hot chocolate after seeing so many reviews mentioning it (white for myself, dark chocolate for him). While it was definitely a cute/neat thing to have you pour in the chocolate chips yourself, I found that even though I wasn't interested in it being super sweet, I also didn't want to drink something that just tasted milky either. Yes, I did end up pouring them all in. Also got a cookie to share with my brother - it was deliciously, crumbly, melt in your mouth goodness. Was a bit disappointed that when we came the lounge was so full we couldn't actually fit in downstairs. We sat separately for a few minutes upstairs before a couch opened up by the front door. Not a huge deal as we were able to sit, but catching up was our reason for going, so that was disappointing. Obviously this place is popular though! read more

Hmmm cosy little Cafe. They do wonderful speciality drinks like their dark chocolate peanut butter hot chocolate recommended to me by a friend. It was as delish as it sounds I can assure you! You're immediately greeted with a smile and nice atmosphere. Last Sunday when getting my hot chocolate, artsy types we're heading in for a comedy night. Make sure to ask staff about it, looks like a little gem of an evening to me! Just gonna say it...totally disliked the purple tshirt uniforms and cups. Finally, a coffee shop open in the evening in Dublin! I'm actually in disbelief I'd never been here before, but luckily a catchup with a friend over the weekend put this injustice right. The place was full of people relaxing with their coffees and laptops, and sure why wouldn't you? The place is so cosy with couches and blankets to sit and wrap up with, with lovely staff and a great selection of teas, coffees and the likes, what's not to love? Cake selection looked a treat too, though I didn't try the cakes myself. My friend and I each opted for a spiced chai, absolutely perfect drink offering and setting for a lovely even catchup chat. We opted for the large and it was a generous serving. So really, this is the kind of place Dublin needs more of. A charming place to have a relaxing chat with friends, not noisy and a great alternative to the Dublin pub scene, it's a treat. Dublin has a whole spate of coffee joints to cater for the under-caffeinated, but less than half of the ones i've been to have a "say a while, sir!" vibe about them. It's usually a case of "here you go, next please!" in most places in the city centre, which i suppose is to be expected. Accents is just on the edge of the central area, and as a result, it still has a nice, chilled, bohemian quality and a sense of individual service. I've been a few times now. I'm in love with the decor. It's very nicely lit, it doesn't have that harsh lighting which is designed to make you want to leave after 20 minutes. Downstairs is a particular treat. Lovely wooden decor with couches and beanbags, books, some games, a massive map of the world, flowers...it's just a nice place to chill out. They have various different options for hot chocolate, lovely big brownies, and very good service. Me and the missus had one very nice experience where she'd bought a white-chocolate hot chocolate which she didn't like, and they were happy to exchange it for another flavour at no extra cost, which was very decent. The only thing i would say after doing the big sell on this place is......actually, I kind of worry that if this place grows in popularity that the standards will slip. Cosy little cafe, dimly lit, fitted with couches, books and board games... It's like a living room! But that's what makes it different from other coffee shops. It has a very homely feel and would be a great place to sit and relax or study for a while as opposed to big noisy places like Starbucks. It's also cheaper too, and they have some great teas as well. I tried their matcha latte which seems to be popping up all over Dublin these days and it was ok, too milky and weak for my tastes though. But I will go back here for some regular coffee. The staff were very friendly too. The chap that served us was v pleasant and after taking my order he said we might be warmer sitting downstairs so after we ordered we headed down and chose a very cosy couch in the corner downstairs. It feels like you're stepping into someone's sitting room. Ordered a sausage roll and a maple pecan slice with an Americano. Everything was brought down to us. Lovely chilled out vibe to here. It probably helped that we came in late on a Friday morning when most people are working hard (I took the day off!) There were a couple of people clearly working away on their laptops. Seemed like a nice quiet place to go to get some work done. Something I loved was that they serve bowls of buttons as nibbles. It's rare to find a coffeehouse so focussed on relaxation. Every street in Dublin seems to have a place with a name like "The Jittery Bean" that's purpose in life is to get you tweaking on caffeine and sugar before ejecting you out into the street. That's not what Accents is about. It feels a lot like a living room, with a wall of books at one end, and a downstairs section filled with couches and beanbags. Plus isn't it everyone's dream to have a fully stocked coffee station in their living room? Just me? The service was great, credit to the staff that they'll bring your drinks down to you and keep the place open late. The coffee was nice, but the hot chocolate looked even better. Before I ordered my first Caramel Macchiato coffee at Accents, I was deeply convinced the best Caramel Macchiato is the Starbucks's one. Now I know I was mistaken, because the Accents's coffee beat it! It was creamy and sweet at first, then it was more coffee like, making me more alive, giving that extra kick, and then when the cup was nearly over - it hit me with caramel sweetness again. What an amazing experience! But coffee is not all the Accents can serve. Once you get a cup of your favorite coffee, you must try one of many delicious cakes. I was lucky to get the last piece of Blueberry Cheesecake with Waffles that day, and trust me when I say it - it was the most lovely piece of a cheesecake ever eaten away from home. When you get there, remember to go downstairs - there's a "living room" style place for everyone, an ideal place for book readers, or a family with kids - as there is a spot with toys for them as well. These comfy sofas, made me feel almost like home, and if you have no book to read with you, you may find something interesting on the shelves of a bookcase. So have a seat, relax and wait for the cup of a coffee (decorated with a latte art) and accompanied by the piece of delicious cake, served by staff with a smile. As I went about my day in Dublin, I kept an eye out for the perfect café. "I'll know it when I see it," I told myself. On Stephen Street Lower, I spotted Accents Coffee & Tea Lounge. This is a very nice spot for chilling with a cup of hot chocolate, or for setting in with your laptop. The staff are always super friendly, and it's got a cosy vibe. The hot chocolates deserve another mention - made with steamed milk and lumps of real, life, massive chocolate. So. Good. The only downside I have found occasionally in here is that the downstairs isn't open, so the upstairs isn't quite as good for working, if that's what you're there for. The other thing is that the wifi can be a little patchy. But, if you're not there for working, none of these would bother you. Today, after a visit to the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, I strolled through the streets of Dublin looking for the perfect place to cozy up with a good latte and the latest Gillian Flynn novel. I came across Accents and decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did! I ordered a soy white chocolate mocha and a slice of broccoli and cheese quiche, which was served with a side of potato salad. Perfect accompaniments to my day of reading and relaxation. The space had plenty of comfortable seating for individuals and small groups. There were a lot of people sitting in the downstairs area, though I was too enthralled by my book to sneak a peak. Next time! A few hours later, I headed out the door with a spiced chai latte (made with soy, of course) which kept me happy and warm on the cold, windy walk to the DART station. Finally made it to Accents to meet some friends for a late coffee last night. The vibe of the place is relaxed and comfortable and I really enjoyed by tea and cake for a fiver. We chilled chatting there for a good while and my vegan friend was super happy with her soy chi something or other. I can't say enough great things about the staff, menu and venue! They are fantastic here, so accomadating, friendly and professional. I run a weekly event here and I have no loyalty to any venue. If my group don't like it, I move them to a better place and after three events here with about 15-23 people attending each time, not one person had a complaint. Visiting from the States, I usually find solace in hanging out at coffee/tea shops with a good book in hand, so I decided to trek and find a nice place to sit and relax. I stumbled upon Accents one day while I was out; something about their foggy windows begged me to come in and shelter from the cold. As my cold hands gripped the door's metal handle... I opened it the wrong way. I smiled and opened it the right way and was greeted by the nice baristas behind the counter. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the array of comfortable lounge chairs and all the people relaxing either with their books, laptops, or friends. Accents has a wide range of tea (cup or pot) and coffee options. It was around 6pm when I discovered this lounge, so I didn't want any coffee. As I was waiting for my Dublin Smog (€3.50), I wandered downstairs towards the lounge and was so happy to discover such a wonderful place. The lounge has even more lounge chairs, but they also have director chairs and bean bags to sit on! The space is adorned with lamps, ficusses, and paintings of all sorts. What's even more interesting is that the times that I have been here, they hold events in the lounge such as comedy nights and poetry slams; so if you're into that sort of thing, I'd recommend checking this place out! When I found a place to sit, I took a sip of my drink and I was in heaven. The Dublin Smog is a cup of tea topped with deliciously steamed milk, and it proved to be the perfect choice for such a cold Dublin night. On other occasions, I've had the Flat White (€3.50) and I love that as well; these are definitely two of the best go to's! They also have a selection of sweet and savory goods in display! Accents is my absolute love! It's the comfiest place, with relaxing lighting and tunes and big, plush couches downstairs. It's great for a quiet chat with friends when you don't want the more commercial Costa or Butler's. As a hot chocolate fan, I love their version- a large cup (basically bowl) of hot milk, with a side bowl of milk, dark, or white chocolate chips that you can add in yourself! They have a variety of pastries and other snacks, but I've never tried any due to distraction-by-hot chocolate. The servers are incredibly friendly and patient,and always make sure the customer checks seating availability downstairs. The seating situation is the only downfall in my eyes- it can get very crowded and sometimes to-go cups are the only option. Also, the milk is occasionally not as hot as it should be. The most comfortable coffee shop ever. I found it so relaxing that I automatically kicked off my shoes and tucked my feet up on the couch.....quickly remembering that I was in fact, in public, I reversed the action and sipped on some tea, unnoticed! :P A great place for chilling out. In my tireless hunt for a decent hot chocolate accents was like coming water after a long drought. The staff was very friendly as I asked my questions about how they made the hot chocolate and if it was any good, they were very friendly and turns out it was up to me. They just give you a big pile of chocolate to mix into warm milk, I recommend 70 percent dark and 30 percent milk chocolate for the perfect mix. One of the staff (maybe the owner actually but I am not sure), came downstairs to check to see if I liked it as well which just added to the charm of the place. It's in a very convenient location, so if I want a break and something to drink, it's an easy choice. It's quiet and a nice spot to escape to. Lots of seating upstairs and down. HUGE fan of this place. I had a few hours to kill in town, and it was just the wrong side of cold to read my book in the park, so I was looking for a place where I could hole up for a while. Compared to many of the cafes in town, this place is great value. I initially ordered a flat white and slice of cake, which came to around 6.50, then a pot of tea (at least three cups) for a very reasonable 2.60. But what really won me over was the 1.50 refill on the tea - meant I could sit for a good long while without feeling the pressure to leave, and without spending too much money on new drinks. The atmosphere is lovely - lots of big squishy couches, and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. Definitely going on my list of top places to hang around in town. read more

This is my second time here and I just had to give it 5 stars this time. I came here with a friend for a quick hot chocolate. We both got a white one with marshmelllows. I also got tempted into this peanut butter cake thing and it was just incredible! They even heated it up for me so it was a large sexy chocolate peanut butter goop! Homina!! Cute little cafe with friendly staff and yummy quiche (that's what I had for lunch) with mixed roasted veg and goat's cheese. Nice decor with lovely arm chairs, bean bags and sofas as well as dim lighting Free wifi was appreciated though cannot charge your computer or device as there would be a premium for the products. Well, blow me down. It cost me nearly €9 for a slice of quiche and a coke. Not the best deal in town. Also, there's a sign promoting areas of the cafe to do business. If you were out of the office in a business meeting, you would most likely be using a computer or tablet or something. Unfortunately they don't run on air or the smell of coffee. Ended up having to leave and do more business at KP Peaches. Blah! To finish on a positive, friendly staff and a cozy place if you're there for a chat. read more
