I shopped around in Portsmouth and Exeter for custom window curtains and J Renee was definitely the least expensive. I was very impressed with the amount of time and patience they has as I really wasn't sure what I wanted. Their store has 100's of samples to choose from. They also have all kinds of unique furniture and knick knacks that you never see in a retail store. I fell in love with some stools and googled them to do some research. They sell the stools for less than half of what they would cost elsewhere. In the end, I was beyond satisfied with the custom job they did for me and I feel that if there was ever an issue they'd stand by their work.

We were joined by 2 other groups of ladies celebrating bachelorettes for an afternoon session of wine and painting the NH seacoast. Jim was a great teacher who put an emphasis on there being no right or wrong way to paint your scene, so long as you're enjoying it - it was nice to feel like we could make our art without a lot of pressure to get it perfect. For people who did want to aim for something higher, he came around and gave specific advice and/or touched up paintings himself (only when asked). It was really fun to see how different people's paintings turned out. The only downside: no food provided (but we knew this upfront) and the room was a little cramped so it was hard to talk to some of my friends, even during the break. Still, I am now a fan of this kind of painting and would definitely return to this kind of class. Just make sure you make your reservation in advance - these things fill up quickly!

We have visited more than 10 stone yards/showrooms all around Boston. Our experience with Boston Granite Exchange (BGE) has been exceptional. Unlike many other showrooms, BGE staff escorted us to the showroom to see stones. Without pushing their personal preferences, they helped us to select the quartzite that was right for our kitchen, our house, and our taste. They were always there to answer questions and they made it very easy to hold slabs for 7 days. BGE in Haverhill probably has the largest selection of natural stone - and certainly quartzite - in the Boston area. West Bridgewater is smaller but has most of the same stones. We were very impressed with Tricia in West Bridgewater and Dave in Haverhill and they were both knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. I would highly, highly recommend Boston Granite Exchange - they are the best of the best in Boston. Thanks Dave and Tricia! PS Don't let their name fool you - they do more than just granite and have a full selection of natural stone including marble, granite, and quartzite. They often have different lots of the same stone so you can select the veining that works best for you. And they also offer quartz as well.
