Considering all the stress that day-to-day life can bring, work-related or otherwise, it can be hard to slow down and take a breath on your own. Counting/breathing exercises or meditation tracks can be helpful at times, but in-person human guidance is something that can never truly be replaced. Megan's tone and attitude in our session was warm with concern, care, and attentive presence. Even in a group setting, where I'm normally prone to social anxiety and "Am I doing this right?" introspection, I felt myself ease into a level of relaxation and comfort. Visiting her required less than an hour of my day; it was time that I was happy to give, and time that she was more than ready to use for transforming my negative thoughts/anxieties into positive and in-the-moment reflections. I showed up dreading the humdrum activities of tomorrow, but I left enjoying the air in my lungs, feeling the energy in my body, and savoring even the smallest details of an average day's routine. The short and sweet of it all: I'd definitely recommend her as guide to mindfulness and mental relaxation!

I ended up learning a lot on my own and when I heard Dr Chapman on a podcast from England (ocd stories) I heard him speak a language that the other true experts on ocd and anxiety spoke. I contacted dr Chapman and began working with him in March. He worked with me every week for about three months and I improved significantly over that time. I did things I didn't think I could ever do. I'm extremely grateful to him for helping me get my life and my confidence back. I'm continuing to work with him and each week I can't believe how much he, a man who doesn't suffer from ocd, understands about my disorder. It's absolutely amazing. After 10 years of suffering, I'm happier than I've been for years and I'm continuing to work with him because he continues to offer helpful things to improve my life in other ways (like perfectionism ). If you suffer from ocd or anxiety --in any form-- do yourself a favor and contact Dr Chapman. He's amazing. And better than that, he's a terrific human being. And that's also important for your recovery. You'll want to do your best for him. And he'll help you to do the best for yourself, to be the best version possible of yourself.

I could go into testimony about what it is like to be rid of a life-long phobia, but that would be…read moreboring to anyone who has not had one. I will say that my phobia(of vomit) was controlling my life so much that it's the whole reason I got on Yelp in the first place. I did not trust places that I wanted to eat, even really nice places. I was not leaving my house, and would be near a panic if I ate food anywhere beyond a 15 minute drive from my home. I would not exercise much for fear of overexertion. I love trying new foods, but I was not even doing that. I would not go out anywhere near a bar at night, I would not hang out with friends until I trusted they could hold their liquor, I barely ate meat because the sensation of digesting it made me think I was nauseous. This was my life as of August 26, 2016. At that point, I was tired of having my phobia. I was dreading my honeymoon (October of the same year) because I would need to go in a plane and someone could get airsick. When I saw on his website that he advertised getting people through debilitating phobias with such a short turnaround, I bit the bullet and signed myself up for what I knew would be a tough couple months. I can tell you that it worked, but if you're anything like I am, you won't believe that it will work for YOU. I can't tell you that either. What I can tell you is that Dr. Chapman will be wonderful to work with, he will talk you out of all of your avoidance, and you will find yourself able to do things that have been off-limits for years. Yes, each week I would come in dreading what I was going to be exposed to, but it was never a surprise. I went from literally not being able to see the word "vomit" in August, to laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes at a video of people getting sick, with the sound all the way up, even when my stomach was not feeling "right" (I have a tender tummy). In August, it would have made my heart race to even picture myself doing that. It took less than 6 months to fix something I had fought with my whole life, something that has hurt friendships for me, something that kept me from taking trips and enjoying food, something that had even affected my job choice. Now it is February of 2017, and all I need to fear are things like bad neighborhoods and hearing sounds in the basement when I'm home alone. I've had the confidence to try out a new diet (ketogenic) and exercise. I know that mental health is costly and out-of-pocket, but I PROMISE YOU- if you are looking Dr.Chapman up on Yelp because you feel like you maybe need to fix something that is controlling you, it is well worth the money to go see him. Think of all the life you are being robbed of for free right now.

Fortunately, Nova accepts my insurance-- but honestly, even if they didn't, I'd want to go here. Therapy is one of those things that everyone could benefit from but people don't like to talk about. I've worked in the mental health field for over 12 years and can tell you, there's nothing embarrassing about asking for help or just needing a 3rd party person to listen. Validation is important, and that's exactly what I got from my visits with Carrie. It sucks to be trans. It's nothing anyone wishes for, it just is. It also sucks that you have to have someone verify that you are trans in order to make changes to your own body -- but Carrie gets that, and is gentle and understanding. She understands the anxiety and bravery that it takes to tell your friends, family, employer, etc. Talking with her felt very natural, like chatting with an old friend. Our sessions also provided me with validations and in a few cases, new ways of thinking and courage to face some things and people I didn't want to. When she felt it was appropriate, she provided me with my letter to start T. I can tell you, that was one of the best days of my life -- and I couldn't have done it without her help. I recommend anyone trans or cis to see Carrie. She's just a spectacular human. Very comforting, non-judgmental and validating. That's like the therapist equivalent of Cool, Funny, Useful.

My experience with her overall was extremely unproductive and had more of a negative effect on my mental health than a positive one. Kristen Howell is the biggest joke of a practitioner. Her definition of "failing a patient" is giving a patient medication (controlled sub) for a long period of time. So, she removes medication used to treat severe panic for a PANIC DISORDER, abruptly (patient has not failed any drug screens prior or during her care EVER) and tells the patient "We will reduce your meds in half, and then taper you off." She did this with NO WARNING and caused her more harm and panic, because her panic attacks were not under control. God help anyone under her care, and God help society if she becomes anything further than a nurse practitioner. Stay away if you need medication, and use it the right way, you will end up worse when you leave than when you came. She had to wait days, when requesting a refill, and had to resort to hospital ER, until Kristen Howell decided to do her job, and give her patient medication. Also, As punishment if you decide to leave and go elsewhere and you request your records to be sent elsewhere, they refuse refills and offer no help, because they are losing a patient. Over 125 calls in 7 days with no records being sent or not able to reach this joker Kristen, and just so happens, the day they DO send her records, she is right next to the records rep informing the now ex patient she will not refill her meds and to call "the new practice she's switching to" for help. This is what professionalism you can expect from Astra, and Kristen Howell. If you like not reaching your providers, and love getting new counselors every week, this is the place for you! (Sarcasm) WHAT A JOKE!!!!!! Let's recap: 1. Astra is horrible, read all reviews, not just mine. 2. Kristen Howell is the face of embarrassment and is anti medication treatment, if it's a controlled substance. Even if your panic attacks are consistent, and the medication is what relieves the panic attacks. 3. You can't reach anyone, ever, until it's convenient for them. 4. If you don't feel like you're getting adequate health care and want to go somewhere else you are punished and deprived of potentially life-saving medication because the provider wants to be vindictive. This is a pure example of what you need to do if you don't want to be a professional. I hope this helps someone from going through the hell and torment my wife did. Seeing her panic and go through this is awful, and makes me feel powerless. But I'll always advocate for her to get help, and call out those who don't and only see people as numbers. I hope enough people leave this place and they are forced out of town. It would be the greatest thing to happen to people since toilet paper.

Because I love the Yelp community, and because I care about your mental health, I am going to bite the bullet and get the word out about Dr. Victoria Cook. Let's face it, there are times in our lives when we really want to strangle the life out of someone, or burn down our office building, or perhaps just never leave the dark comfy world under the covers of our bed. I've been there. It's no fun. Talking to someone else - anyone else - about the world inside your head can be a very scary experience, and talking to a complete stranger about the worrisome bits of your life is a definitive no...just, no. Trusting someone else enough to be able to discuss your sad places is not an easy thing, and finding the right person is very important. Dr. Cook was exactly the right person for me. She is kind, she listens without interrupting, and I never feel judged. She is a fabulous resource for outside services, and she is encouraging without being forceful. Dr. Cook accepts some insurance plans, and she has evening appointment available. Mental health is no joke. Whether you have chronic depression or situational angst, a supportive therapist can be a valuable asset, and can make a tremendous impact as you navigate life's difficult path. Taking care of yourself means more than eating right and keeping your body fit...it also means loving yourself enough to talk about your problems. It's amazing how the power your fears and sadness have over you dissipates when you voice them, out loud. To reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, call 1-800-273-8255.

The mental healthcare system is confusing, and accessibility can be limited if you don't know where to turn. We were desperate - we got a list of potential therapists from a hospital and reviewed the bios of the therapists. Katelyn's bio stood out, so we called her first and left a message. Before we could even call the third therapist, Katelyn was calling us back. She was willing to see my daughter that evening, staying very late to accommodate her first therapy appointment. Since that day, Katelyn has been the single most important person in my daughter's recovery and healing. What is as important to me is how available Katelyn has been to support our family as we supported our daughter through her most difficult times in life. I am grateful to share that our daughter is healing after seeing Katelyn consistently for the past few years. I would recommend Katelyn and her team to anyone who is seeking help during a difficult time of mental health.

Once this process is complete, you will find that you will think, feel, and behave differently.
