Do not use this service. I have been a consistent customer to Ace for a long time & always valued their customer support. I recently used the Handyman services and want any other homeowner/resident to not use this service. Its fraudulent and totally designed to take your money without doing any/sloppy work. My biggest disappointment is in reaching out to the person who took my appointment to explain in email and via phone what happened only to be met with absolute confusion, denial and just a complete lack of awareness which lets me know it's intentional and they're fully complicit in the fraud. If people do not speak up, nobody will know. For every "they were amazing" is the other side of the coin and the public should be made aware. Go elsewhere, use another service. Don't end up like me. I fully plan on reporting them to the BBB and anywhere else I can file a complaint. read more

I request service on 2 occasions and they sent me handymen that could not do the job. The last man they sent me Rose said was a carpenter, but didn't perform like a carpenter. The handyman damage the cabinet and was unable to make the sliding doors slide easily. So he left me with a job undone. Not a good experience. We live in Columbia MD in an older but beautiful townhome on a lake and decided to update the 1970's deck railing to a modern cable-rail system. We checked 5 different services in the area and references were very mixed. One of our friends referred us to ACE - Eldersburg and had a great experience with them so we decided to give them a try. Callback after the first inquiry was very prompt, same day and after an email exchange to show some photos of the work we needed, we had the agreement and date. Rosemarie Jones was extremely friendly and efficient in the office for scheduling us and arranging all the details and dates, and we could not be more pleased. Richard, the craftsman was just over and above on every part of the project, from being on time (even slightly early the first day), extremely polite and friendly, but most of all in his workmanship. We've all heard the nightmare stories of 'jackleg' home improvement projects, and we were really concerned because this project had some challenges that came with it being a 50 year old home with some unique construction obstacles to overcome. Despite the challenges, Richard some up with professional solutions for shoring up the area under the deck to support the railing and to mounting a 2'x12' backing beam to the upstairs smaller deck to mount the railing. BY HIMSELF. All in all he just nailed it and we highly recommend ACE and Richard. The price was fair and reasonable, but the craftsmanship was priceless! And for what it's worth, Richard politely declined my offer of a cash tip. It was very warm in late May when he did the work, and had his mask on the whole time (Covid era!) & I felt he deserved something extra but it was not to be. That's about as professional as it gets. I had one of their guys replace my attic gable vents. He arrived on time (actually early), he managed to fit the replacement I ordered from Amazon into the space by cutting back the siding and then caulking the edges. What he didn't do, which I understand is the proper way to do it, is remove enough of the short siding sections above in order to slide the inner screen behind the siding. This from someone who claimed to have done many of these jobs in the past. Considering there is a YouTube video on how to do this, I'm not sure why, after doing many of these jobs, he hasn't figured out the right way to do it. I believe the term is Mickey Mousing. Save yourself time and energy and find a more reliable, professional, handyman. Made an appointment Friday afternoon for some exterior patching and painting. I advised that the structural repair had already been done when we had a new roof installed, just needed a patch and painting. No problem, I was assured. Pete came out to the house Monday morning and took a look at the work. He didn't express any issues with the work but it was beginning to drizzle and he was hoping to send out another person the following day but someone from the office will call and confirm later in the day. I follow up with a phone call around 3 pm to check on the rescheduling of the appointment. I'm told they're working on it and will call me the following day. I received no phone call and again called back. Now I'm told the owner needs to review the project and they will let me know later in the day (Tuesday). I call back on Wednesday, 3:30 and am again told that a decision hasn't been made yet. 15 min after that phone call, my wife gets a text saying they won't do the work. I call the owner advising that we've wasted the better part of a week, due to their lack of professionalism. He pointed out that I was never charged the $100 fee for them to come out (that I was never made aware of) and tried to rush me off the phone. Condescending toward customers and not knowledgable about construction (yet she thinks she is). Handyman Maters sent out a guy named Scott who was changing out a commode for us. I asked him the keep the old commode in the box so it would not get broken and place it in the garage. I said it SEVERAL times. My husband went out in the garage the next day and Scott had left the tank sitting on the floor on the bolts that holds it on. He did not know it was there because it was behind a box so he accidently knocked it over and of course it was shattered. We asked HM to reimburse us for the tank and they refused. Happy with the craftsman, he was perfect. However, Ace offices did NOT convey the job properly to the craftsman which resulted in double charges for time and materials. We were also charged $125 for an hour of time for a dump run, which was never explained to us and was surprised that this was charged. I feel completely ripped off because of their mistake. Great service. I needed some painting done in areas of my house that I couldn't reach on my own ladder. I sent an online inquiry through the site, was called back by Sharon immediately, and had a "craftsman" (as they put it) named Josh scheduled for the very next morning. He called the night before to find out what supplies I already had, and the next morning was right on time. He was tidy, courteous and did a very nice job I have no complaints at all and would definitely use Handyman Matters again. It's not that hard to find people who will take on big jobs, but if you have just a little thing that needs fixing, it can be a real pain to get someone out. It cost us over $900 for 6 and 1/2 hours and the job was not even completed. Their handyman actually spent one hour trying to fix the garbage disposal to no avail and then had to make a trip to Home Depot to buy a new one. Bottom line, he arrived at 10 AM and didn't start the work until 12 noon. The company has refused to compensate us for that unnecessary waste of time and money. Dang! These folks rocked it and then some. Long story short or short story long - my mother rehabbed our bathroom, while we lived elsewhere for a period of time. She cut some corners and had a shower installed, covering our water meter and water valve. Since then, we've had too many issues and access panels galore in our shower. Howard County meter man comes by to switch out the old with a new meter and says, no can do. Of course, duh.. there's a freakin wall there. I call numerous handymen, contractors, whomever - to somehow rectify this issue, scour AMAZON like crazy, in search of the correct size access panel. Handyman matters calls to confirm, calls a day in advance and on the day of. Richard is in and out, within a hour. Everything is clean when he leaves. Charged $130. Bam! Done! I am very disappointed in my experience with Handyman Matters. After visits from 3 service providers the job is still not complete. I do not feel enough effort was made to ensure that my bathroom was completed to my satisfaction. I was ignored and rescheduled several times. 2 of the servicemen sent to my home were unprepared to do the work required as explained upfront; the 3rd was either unqualified or attempting to take advantage of me by extending the time required to do the job (I have pictures to prove it). My attempted patience and understanding with late arrivals, missed appointments and ineptitude were met with indifference. I made an appointment with Handyman Matters to hang something heavy on my wall. We made an original appointment a few days before. That day came, and they didn't show up. They told me that they did not see this appointment as "booked." They were very nice and apologetic on the phone, and we rescheduled for a later time that day. I let them know that I could only stay at my place until a certain time, since I had a meeting to attend (took off work to have this appointment). Lo and behold, the handyman assigned to the job calls me at the time of the second job, and lets me know super causally that he will be showing up late, no apology, no idea that I would not be available at that time. I came from work today to find my sofa massacred. It's a pricey sofa from crate and barrel that we couldn't get into our basement. This sofa has been disassembled and reassembled 3 times in the past over the course of several moves (by a company in NYC) and has always looked pristine. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the condition of it after Kirk and Bill had their hands on it! They tried to charge us $657.50!!! What?! My husband reluctantly paid them partially. Crystal S. Rosemarie + Brian, along with their team (especially Rich) have been amazing. Rich came out to price out 3 different jobs for me and just completed the 2nd. He did a great job on capping my fascia boards and some siding work. When I purchased my home there were a few areas that needed some TLC, which is expected with any home purchase. Rich also redid the work under my patio door so it's nice and neat and honestly it looks better than the door itself now. I've had 2 awesome experiences with Rich and plan to schedule my third job soon (before the weather gets too cold out). I can understand having good and bad experiences with any business and just want folks to know I had a really good experience. DETAIL: We asked for a handyman to tackle a shower nozzle that broke and wouldn't turn off. plus a few other small jobs. He did great and we got a price break for a multi-hour bundle. Everything was great except the nozzle turned counter clockwise from hot to cold instead of cold to hot. Still perfectly functional. However, not satisfied with a job less than perfect, Handyman Matters sent their guy back out again, and later a plumber, too, all at no additional cost to us. Took some research to figure out the problem, which was just an unusual feature with this particular manufacturer's cartridge. SUMMARY: Handyman Matters is not fully satisfied until the customer is, and will go out of their way to ensure they are. read more

Can you give six stars? I'd really like to give six stars. I'm in the process of selling a house on the east coast while living and working on the west coast (I don't recommend that), so everything I need to do towards that end is extra stupid complicated. One of the things that I needed to do was take care of a list of fairly random FHA-required repairs - paint this window sill over here, paint this door jamb over here, install some railing right here, etc. It wasn't a lucrative big job like a kitchen renovation, but rather a short list of annoyances. I must have contacted ten companies in the process of trying to get this work done. Three of them got back to me. Of those two, one was super ridiculously flaky, another didn't get back until a week later, and the third was Handyman Matters. Rosemarie was incredibly understanding and professional, responding with all possible speed to my inquiries and special requests (e.g., lockbox access), and she and her team had the full job done in plenty of time for the re-inspection. As a bonus, they charged me about 75% of the estimate, and keep in mind that by this point I was broadcasting "I WILL HURL MONEY AT THIS PROBLEM TO MAKE IT GO AWAY" loud and clear. The house passed re-inspection smoothly, so while I haven't seen the work, I know it must have been done right. So there you go. They took a very inconvenient customer and worked with that person to get the job done quickly, well, and for an extremely reasonable price. Just imagine the amazing things that they could do for you, person who actually lives within 3000 miles of the job site! Seriously, hire these people. You can't go wrong. read more

So, here's the update. Complaining to BBB.org didn't do much, since the owner was insistent that I was at fault for not providing him with a report from a structural engineer, and 'their craftsmanship (for real, that's the actual word he used to call that hatchet job) spoke for itself'. So I said, screw it, and hired someone else who charged me $300 (as opposed to $2,500 I was charged by Handyman Matters). It took them 1.5 days. They were neat and clean. No one had to keep coming back. It's been months since it was completed, and the ceiling looks beautiful! There are no more cracks, and NO STRUCTURAL ENGINEER HAD TO BE INVOLVED (what a surprise, I know). That's how real pros do it--quickly, efficiently, and flawlessly. I did try to contact them about the problems we had. Patrick is a new employee in the local office who spent a quarter of the time talking instead of working, another quarter not even at our house (arrived 2.5 hours late the second day, packed up early and left an hour early each day to "avoid traffic." One day he had to go to Home Depot THREE times. During his Home Depot sojourns he'd pick up coffee, take his time, spend hours away from the job site. He spent EIGHT hours working on a powder room! He worked like he didn't care b/c he was no longer working for his own family company. When I disputed half of the charge for all of those reasons above, the owner called, extremely aggressive, shouting at me. I asked him to calm down so we could resolve it civilly and said I was only disputing half of the 16 hours he was supposed to have been working - not the entire charge. The man screamed at me that it had already been resolved b/c I'd spoken to Patrick's other boss Rose. I asked him - how was it resolved? Patrick never worked extra hours to make up for all the time he wasn't at our house, was on the phone, was out getting coffee, was in Home Depot, etc. The guy finally got quiet and then said, "We ALWAYS win AmEx disputes." Wow, I guess their service is so bad that this happens regularly! And this is the first time in 4 years we've ever had a dispute with any merchant! Absolutely horrible experience! read more

Had them come out to seal our chimney but the guy looked at the chimney and said it needed $1,500 worth of work and would take two days to fix. No work was done. He basically took his ladder off the truck, spent three minutes looking at the chimney and then put his ladder back on the truck. Then I got billed for $135.00. I could've had three different roofers look at my chimney and give me an estimate and not paid a penny. Needless to say, I won't be calling this company again. read more

I am sorry that I ever called this company. Called to have a kitchen repair done to a lazy Susan, a gutter cleaned, and minor holes patched in siding. First off my appt was made for 1 p.m. .....came home and waited. At 2p.m and 3 p.m called to ask where the "craftsman" was and was told probably running "a little late". At 6 p.m just as I was about to give up they pull up. Basically the craftlady said she could only look at some of my repairs and not others because she didn't have a ladder to get up on my roof with even though she was told there was roof work. She basically spent 3 hours looking at things and making lists of what she would need and charged me!!! Then the next day same scenario promised to come back early afternoon and it was evening. Did a shotty job with repairs and asked me to help her with outdoor repairs.....then said she wanted to come back to do something I didn't even ask for... When I called to complain the owners wife said they would get back to refund me some money for her being late for all appts etc. I wasn't asking for much just a little bit of courtesy consideration....no response, cost me money for a bunch of aggrevation...don't use this company read more

I've hired Handyman Matters twice in the past year, once to replace the weather stripping for my front door and once to install a door sweep on that door. Each time, I had to request a follow-up appointment to resolve a problem with the work. There was a small gap between the weather strip and the threshold, and the door sweep the craftsman provided was flimsy, making an incomplete seal, so I purchased a better one and requested installation. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 only because both projects required follow-up work. But both times, the follow-up appointments were made without hassle, and the problems were resolved. read more

Made an appointment and got a call from their coordinator. She said that they had some problems with my voicemail but would make a note to text or email me instead. The day before the appointment I received one call the night before and didn't recognize it, so I sent it to voicemail (but no voicemail was left). The next day the service person never came, so I called and they said they had "desperately tried to reach me" but they couldn't get ahold of me, and that they didn't have the right address (they did, as it turns out). Handyman matters was referred to me by my agent. Our condo needed some small updates and minor repairs before putting our condo on the market and Rosemarie was amazing.
