P.S. In June 2023 I hired D B Genesis to reinstall the hardwood floors and some of the steps. They did a neat and professional job. There were no gaps between the boards evident. Subsequently I filed a claim with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission against its Guaranty Fund. The fund was set up to compensate homeowners who hire licensed contractors who either fail to complete a job or do it in an "unworkmanlike" manner. After a very long drawn out process, the MHIC opined that the multitude of gaps "were not significant enough to render the installation unworkmanlike." Prefinished hardwood flooring is an interlocking tongue-and-groove system and it is certainly not good workmanship to install the boards with clearly visible separations. This contractor left more than 50 open joints between the boards, significant gaps between boards and stair rails and installed steps with stair noses that were not level and that creaked shortly after installation. This was certainly an unworkmanlike installation. (I guess that tells you what a license from the MHIC is worth.) What matters, however, is not my opinion or the MHIC's but whether you would be pleased if this contractor did such fine work in your home. This contractor has cost me time, money and a lot of aggravation with his threats of legal action, lies and refusal to accept responsibility. He continues to lie about conditions in my home alleging that I do not operate my HVAC leading to wildly fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels, causing the multitude of gaps. Don't be fooled. He is just lying to shift blame for the shoddy work of his subcontractor to me, the homeowner. BTW he's also lying about offering to replace the flooring at cost. P.P.S. As I have stated before the "official unbiased inspection report" Eric is referring to falsely stated there were no separations visible in the floor either from a stand up position or under 10x magnification and thus, concludes there were no installation problems. So I guess those are all imaginary gaps Eric's subcontractor filled in with wood putty. The MHIC a scam?? I would not put it that way but certainly they did not have much sympathy for me as a homeowner harmed by a licensed contractor. They seemed much more concerned about protecting the Guaranty fund from claims, even legitimate ones. Sometimes the system does not deliver justice. In any case, a license from the MHIC is clearly not a guarantee against shoddy workmanship. read more

Their prices and work for cleaning are similar to other places, but the administration, pricing, and repair work are poor. If you have anything other than the simplest, most straightforward job, there will be a problem either with the execution or quoting. They're also slow to acknowledge mistakes and require excessive and time-consuming explanation or validation to adjust. It's like trying to manage 5 children on a job because you rarely talk to the same person for your job. As far as execution, the repairs I contracted weren't done well. There were very noticeable transitions between the undamaged and replacement sections. In one case, after more than five emails clarifying the work that was to be completed, one task wasn't completed at all. Their overall costs are comparable to others, but it's such a poorly managed business that I'll never use again, and with so many other fairly priced and easier options in the area like Elegant Flooring, it's just not worth it. read more

After our basement flooded two years ago, we were able to save the original carpet and looked for a company that could reinstall it (after taking the proper measures to waterproof the basement). After getting some other estimates, we went with A Plus Carpet based on their price and their positive Yelp reviews. Ron came to the house and inspected our rolled up carpet that we had stored in our attic. He confirmed that they could reinstall it with a new pad and disinfectant. He got us a great deal (roughly $800 for a 350 square foot space). My only complaint is that the communication wasn't always reliable; I had to follow up a few times before confirming the job. The team that arrived was fast, friendly, and efficient. I'm not sure if two of them spoke English (I speak Spanish, so we had a nice chat), but at least their foreman spoke English very well. They finished before their estimated time. The carpet stood up well to a steam cleaning and we love having our basement back. I hope to not need A Plus's services again, but if I do, I would happily go back. read more

We hired A Plus to install gym flooring in our basement. We had flooring already in another room in our home that was basically seamless that I installed but wanted to use a professional due to the transitions in the carpet. The day the installers arrived they did wonderful work on the edges (shoe molding, carpet transitions) but the product they used was rolled down (instead of interlocking) which created 2 large seams in the flooring. Due to the glue coming through the seams, they used Acetone to try and remove it, which then discolored the rubber. We have been trying to work towards a solution and the company continually says they will call back and won't. When you finally talk to someone, they aren't able to provide a date to "repair" their work. This was a $2,400 project, they charged our credit card after we refused to pay by check due to the poor work quality and now we're left with a rather unsightly floor. Review the pictures and judge for yourself if this is the company for you Update: The owner contacted us and offered to install new flooring to remedy the defects in the original install. Unfortunately we have to move on to a more involved home improvement project and weren't able to allow him the opportunity to correct the issues we encountered. We were looking for a flooring company to correct a prior installation problem as well as to install engineered hardwood in three additional rooms. We called A Plus Carpet and Flooring, had one of their reps come and take measurements, etc. He sent us a summary of his info and found some of his details were incorrect. In addition, we wanted separate proposals for the bedroom (carpet) and great room (hardwood), with the two remaining rooms (living and dining rooms, hardwood) be combined. We couldn't get a response from him, called A Plus and spoke with 'Nathan' who apologized for the confusion and offered to set up a meeting for him and the owner, Eric Rome, to come to our home, take correct measurements and discuss what we were looking for. The date and time arrived - no one from A Plus showed up. We waited a bit before calling, spoke with Nathan again, and was then referred to Mr. Rome. He had some questions about the original summary, said he'd be sending us something via email very shortly, in 10 minutes. Thirty-five minutes later we'd still not received anything, tried calling A Plus but got no answer. This morning we were determined to get some kind of answer as we were really being jerked around. Nathan informed us they didn't deal with the manufacturer that made the engineered hardwood and therefore could not do the job. So after repeatedly being jerked around and lied to, no apologies whatsoever, we came to the conclusion that A Plus Carpet and Flooring is a joke. Don't waste your time. NOTE: our review was written in mid-May on YELP. Mr. Rome, the owner, responded recently "We apologize that you weren't satisfied with your experience. Unfortunately, we do not accommodate unreasonable demands." We'd like to know what was unreasonable about our demands. I needed to replace the flooring in my house in order to sell. A Plus was recommended by a friend. When I explained what I needed, the sales rep showed me what products they had in stock to help keep the cost down. On the days of installation (one day for hard floors, one day for carpet) the workers called prior to 9am to say they were on their way. All installers were polite and professional. We used A+ to do a carpet repair. My exchanges with the owner were great. When we set up the repair, we were told the repair team would arrive at 8 am. When they hadn't arrived by 8:30/9:00 we called the office and were told they went to another job first and would be there in two hours. By 11:00 they had still not arrived, so we called again. When I had contacted the owner originally, he responded that padding would be included in the cost (I knew we did not have enough). The estimate was emailed to my husband and we unfortunately didn't catch that padding was not included (our fault). As a result, we had to run out and buy a whole roll of junky padding ($40) in the middle of the install (we could not purchase a 4'x4' piece). The undersized piece we had originally, the installers took with them when they left. The intention was not only to have our carpet repaired as an interim solution, but to find a local flooring company to replace carpeting and install hardwood flooring throughout our home. I wasn't asked to pay extra for spotting, but they sprayed "areas of concern" let us say, and made my carpet look like new. We used Aplus to refinish the hardwood in our house and replace the kitchen floor. We had them come out a year ago to sand and stain the hardwood floors in our living room and kitchen, and then asked them to come back out this past spring to match the bedrooms to the hallways. The workers were pleasant and professional and the final product was outstanding. There was a problem with the color of the stain and it was not matching between our hallway and the bedroom. After waiting for it to dry, they came back out and agreed. The team then came back and redid the work and it came out wonderful! I hired A+ to install a kitchen floor. They did a pretty good job. They were prompt and courteous. The installers did a pretty good job but there were imperfections in the grout. The grout also cracked around one tile. I called about the problem and they did send the team back to fix it. The floor looks much better now. After explaining to them that I had prepared my basement for installation by Empire and was stuck with no service, they came out that afternoon. Do not use this company. Sales staff were wonderful, but beyond that there was mistake after mistake and resistance from the owner of trying to work out a reasonable solution. First, the person sent out to measure forgot to note that the stairs were open and the runner needed to be bound. Rough carpet was sent out and I had to wait over 10 days for them to return with bound carpet. Then the installers brought the wrong color carpet from the warehouse. When I saw the carpet installed in my study I stopped them from putting it in the family room because it was incorrect. I went out to the warehouse the next day they were opened and was told the correct color was in the warehouse (I saw it) although the owner claimed the wrong color had been sent by the manufacturer. They did offer to come back out and install the correct carpet, but that would mean the ordeal of once again moving everything out of the room. Instead, I said I could live with the color installed in the study so they wouldn't have to come out a again but I would appreciate it if they would work with me to make up for the wrong carpet and the delay of having everything moved out of the family room for over 10 days as we waited for the stair carpet to be bound. Be mindful, they could have offered to come out and complete the family room with the correct carpet they had in their warehouse, but they wanted to wait until the stair carpet was finished to save themselves a trip. I agreed, although it meant me living with a mess for 10 days. All I asked was that in return they not charge me for the stair binding and upgrade the padding in the family room. They did agree not to charge me for the binding but would not agree to an upgrade in padding. I asked twice that the owner call me so we could discuss this and work our a solution that worked for everyone and he refused to call me, saying instead that he had filed a claim with the carpet company for sending out the wrong carpet, which was blatantly untrue. As a fair person, I will admit that the quality of their work was good, but working with them is nothing but a headache. From carpet measurers and installers who make mistakes to an owner who won't a engage with clients when there is a problem. Find another carpet company. read more

After painting my nursery, I was carrying a gallon of paint down the stairs when the handle broke and the bucket tumbled spilling paint all down my stairs. Multiple stairs were stained with paint and no matter what I did to clean it nothing where it worked. A+ carpet and flooring came and did an amazing job on the stairs. I am aware of the overall very good reviews of A Plus Carpet, but a buyer should definitely beware. First I will list the good points, and then I will list some bad points that should make you think very carefully and examine your situation and needs before you proceed. Good: They were courteous on the phone. We agreed on an appointment and they were prompt and they worked quickly. Eventually, they *did* agree to come back and address some problems. Bad: We got them to install Brazilian teak on two flights of stairs. Neither Eric nor his workers were very experienced with teak, which was obvious by their technique of face nailing the stair noses. Teak is a super hard exotic wood, and when you drive nails through its surface, it tends to splinter and blister. When you use wood putty to cover it up, it still looks like a blemish, and for the quality of the teak, that's not very acceptable. The bottom landing of the lower flight of stairs incorporates some angles. His installers really weren't good at thinking through what they were doing, and they cut the boards on 45 degree angles, rather than having the boards meet at an angle that met the stair structure. This left some very unsightly gaps due to not properly matching the angles. He suggested that we use quarter-round molding to hide the gaps, but I informed him that would be the mark of inferior workmanship. His crew damaged some of the stair noses, but since they didn't have an unlimited supply of materials, they installed splintered pieces anyway. This is unsightly as well as dangerous. If you think that splinters hurt, you should experience a splinter from teak! Ok, so you really can't measure a company by some of the problems that happen, because problems inevitably happen. Homes are not precise, and natural materials often have irregularities. The real problem here, and I urge potential customers to take note of this, is how they responded to my complaints. Eric Rome became quite defensive, and told me that I was wrong about my complaints, and he insisted that his crew did a perfect job. Rather than listening to me and understanding my complaints before he tried to shut me down, he appeared to be a bit temperamental and condescending. Eventually, he began to listen to me. I made some suggestions about how he could fix the angle of the boards on the landing, and his crew fixed those boards. They obtained some new stair noses and they installed them. However, he refused to admit that the ugly blemishes left by face nailing the boards was improper, so we have to live with those marks. For some people, his crew might be a bit off-putting as well. He hires migrant workers who speak little or no English, and they are probably illegal immigrants, although that is speculation on my part. Eric comes by at the start of the job and at the end of the job, but there may or may not be someone that speaks English while the work is being done. That way, if you have requests or complaints during the installation, there is a very palpable language barrier, and the workers claim not to understand. The fact that they returned twice to eventually fix the major problems saves them from getting only 1 star, but I definitely won't be using them again. They aren't very customer service oriented in the face of a problem, and they aren't necessarily knowledgeable about each and every type of material. The crew isn't excellent at communication. The bottom line is that if you have anything but an extremely straightforward install, you might want to look elsewhere. They probably install carpet perfectly, but if you have premium materials or an installation where details are of high importance, then A Plus Carpet might not be the company that you want to hire. read more
