My Mom got her kitchen floor replaced and it looks like a new kitchen. We went into the store and Chris was very helpful and to the point and showed us the tiles & left us to pick one we liked. He was professional and a pleasure to work with. We were given a price and the contract was signed that same day! The agent came the next week to measure her floor for the exact measurements and once Chris had the info he called back & the price did change by about $1k but still an excellent price! She put a deposit down when we first went there then paid the rest of invoice when they scheduled the installation. We don't know time frames for ordering products but it took over a month before she got another call to schedule the install. The installers came yesterday & were very professional & did a good job. They even matched up the molding coming into the kitchen & around cabinets and walls and it was perfect. It did take all day but overall great work and again the floor looks amazing. read more

1. First it was requested to Leave half the cost of the floor as a deposit, and so we did. REMEMBER ONLY 1/3 is Maryland Law. 2. approx. two weeks later i was called for a start date, and it was told "I must pay for the job in total or the job would not be started." AGAIN not legal in Maryland. I requested to speak to the store manager and got Bob... BOB is the part owner. 3. Bob the part owner yelled and verbally harassed me on the phone and suggested cancelling the contract because I would not pay in full... Finally after about Ten minutes he sort of apologized for being wrong and well he knew he had tried this with the wrong person. But I had to threaten with legal action. And If you read the cancellation policy. Lets just say you will be very lucky to get your deposit back, hence the large down payment and efforts to frustrate and force a cancellation... 4. Finally he scheduled the job and 2 individuals came out to my home in an unmarked white van and they couldn't speak English... I was given a number to someone that would translate and he barley spoke English... 5.OVERPRICED !!! I cant imagine an older person or older lady having to have that conversation I had with BOB. I would not recommend this place. I needed my split level stairs done. I had already ripped the carpet up and took the nails out. Once I made the order the sales person said someone would call me in the next 2 days to set up the measuring appt. No one called so I had to call them. Then when I made the sale the sales person it would take 2 weeks to get the carpet in then about 3 to 5 weeks from that time to install but someone would call me when the carpet came in to schedule the install. I waited almost 3 weeks and had to call the sales guy again (it was a Tuesday or Wednesday) the guy said oh yea it came in on Friday, I will have the scheduler call you. No called so I had to call yet again to get something scheduled. They gave me a time frame of between 8 and 10 but said it would be closer to 8. It was actually 9:30 when they showed up. The carpet is significantly lighter than what I ordered but I didn't realize that until they installed everything. It works but be careful because the swatches they have in the show room are not the color of the actual carpet that is installed. The sales person has yet to reach out to me to ask me how everything went (That's sales 101 if you want repeat customers). It does seem like there are spots on the steps that may unravel due to crappy installation but I guess we will see over time. read more

Very happy with our purchase of an area rug for our family room. The rug was not too expensive because we found it inside their huge showroom of remnants. We had them cut it and hem it to size...12 feet by 13 feet with a similar sized padding. Considering timing (COV19), three weeks was a pretty fair turnaround time....at purchase, two weeks was the quote. When we went to pick up the rug and padding the employee was very careful to load both into our Toyota van. In a month or so we plan to shop there again for a smaller rug for our livingroom. read more

I have used Jim Boyd twice to purchase and install floors and carpets for my condo. And was very happy with there work. Last time the crew was different. They damaged all walls and molding. I called Jim Boyd immediately and let them know of damage to my walls. They were understanding and payed for me to have my place repainted. So even though this experience was not perfect as before they stand by their work. So I would still recommend them. read more

We visited the location twice because it was convenient to both my office and my husband's office. We were looking for laminate flooring for our basement. On the first visit, we really just wanted to look at colors and styles, as we hadn't really seen many options in person before and we wanted to know what our options were. The salesperson was helpful, but wouldn't really leave us alone to shop on our own. He pushed us towards vinyl flooring, when we really were more interested in laminate. On our second visit, we worked with a different sales person. She also pushed us towards vinyl flooring, but finally did show us the laminate. Again, we really wanted to shop on our own without having a salesperson hovering over us. She did leave us alone and we found some laminate that we thought would look nice in our basement. Since we had not measured, she told us someone would call to schedule a time to come out and measure our basement. The person came out to measure a few days later. During this process, she noted the $1.75 per square foot price on the laminate and exclaimed "Wow, what a great price!" (it is a great price, and surprising as we usually tend to have expensive taste). She let us take the samples home so that we could see them in our house. The salesperson called us back and let us know that the person who measured had also measured the humidity in our basement and found it to be 6%. Because of this, she really didn't feel that laminate was the best option for us, and pushed us again towards the ($7+ per square foot) luxury vinyl. First of all, we had a contractor in the basement that day who was in the midst of several days of painting, which would change the humidity in the room. Second, 6% humidity is IDEAL basement humidity (Google it). The only reason that I can see that we should be buying more expensive luxury vinyl would be to increase the salesperson's commissions or sales. We ended up shopping several other stores, and all of them confirmed that the measured humidity was fine in our basement for laminate. We found another store that offered another laminate that we liked at a great price and elected to go with them. When we returned the samples and let the salesperson know that we were no longer interested in having the laminate installed, she informed us that we would have to pay a $40 fee for the measurements. This was never disclosed to us up front. At no point did anyone say "by allowing us to take measurements you're committing yourself to buying with us or else!" I mean, the salesperson was unwilling to install what we were asking for, and gave us a bogus reason as to why. Skip this place. read more

Is it reasonable to expect wall-to-wall carpet to be properly installed? Is it reasonable to expect the installer to be adequately trained knowing the right amount of glue needed to secure the padding, and the tacks to be securely fastened? Don't you expect the carpet to lay flat, free from buckling, and ripples. This was not the case when Jim Boyd's Flooring America installed carpet throughout a 5- building condominium complex in Timonium, Maryland. Within a short period of time after installation, problems started to develop. Jim Boyd's Flooring American's employees responded to stretch the carpet only for the buckling and ripples to re-appear. The buckling was so pronounced that it became a tripping hazard. Two separate carpet companies evaluated the carpet when Jim Boyd's Flooring America refused to return to fix the problem. These two companies reported that the carpet had not been installed according to industry standards. The appropriate amount of glue was not used to secure the padding and the tacks were not properly fastened. Tens of thousands of dollars had been spent to purchase the carpet from Jim Boyd's Floors America. Where were the skilled installers? Where were the supervisors overseeing the installation? Where was management to make the customer whole? Shameful! read more

Decided to try a flooring company that specializes in just that, flooring. After having bad luck with the sub contractors of Home Depot and Lowe's we thought we would give this company a try. We had decided to replace our carpeting in the screened in porch that was installed by a Lowe's sub contractor before we had moved in to our home last May. Even though it was "brand new" and no one had ever lived here with this carpeting down by the fall of 2015 it had buckled and was pulling away from the seams. From the initial contact with the salesperson at Jim Boyd's everything went better than with a big box store. We had our carpeting picked out with a half hour after the salesperson gave us several suggestions and paid attention to what we were looking for. Very attentive to our needs and desires. Within 1 month we had our carpet measured, ordered and installed! There were a few bumps with carpet removal (1st layer was glued down with "something" that made it hard to remove. Installer came to me with concerns, suggestions and he did a 5 star job of installing the carpet, paid attention to detail! We will consider using them again! read more

I'm none one to write a poor review unless it is truly warranted. My husband and I are at a loss to understand all the stellar reviews for Jim Boyd's Flooring America. What we experienced amounted to: poor communication (the 'right hand not knowing what the left was doing'), unnecessary return trips to several locations to resolve the issues, several appointments to our residence that would have been missed had I not called to confirm, incorrect cuttings, unreturned telephone calls, etc, And as far as saving money by using an outlet, we ultimately saved no money at all. We had hardwood floors installed a few years ago. They were installed on my first floor, family room, living room, dining room, entryway. We paid a lot of money for cherry wood. After they were completed by a man that did not speak English, we noticed large spaces in between the floor boards. We called up Jim Boyd's and they sent someone over to check it. The man said it was within normal limits. We should have retained an attorney but just let it go. Everything gets in between the cracks. You have to walk around with some instrument when you vacuum to try and get in between large spaces. Horrible job. Workmen come to my house and all say horrible job.. I would stay far away from this company... Did not stand behind their work. Did a terrible job..would give them zero stars.. read more

I've bought rugs and tile from this place before and it's okay. Service can be really spotty. I would avoid Cathy Coleman; she hardly ever smiles and always seems like she's in a rush and just going through the motions. I always groan whenever she waits on me and have hoped that maybe she's just had a bad day the times I've encountered her before, but the fact remains that she often makes customers feel like they are an irritation to her day. Jim Boyd's flooring did a great job with my floor. I recently moved into my house and I had the hardest time marching the flooring that the previous owner had put down. Luckily Jim Boyd's had the exact product. Harvey, their sales rep came out to my place and took all the measurements. He even came up with a solution to make sure that all the flooring was continuous when it wasn't that way previously. He even went the extra mile to meet me at the store when I was available, on a Sunday morning before they were even open to get the order going. He quoted 3-4 weeks for the product arrival and it was ready in 3-4 weeks. The team that did the install was super courteous. They always checked with me before any decisions were made. They also finished the job with expert craftsmanship a day early. This was a great experience and I'm very happy with my new floor. read more

i just have not had good experiences with jim boys flooring america. the first time i used them was due to an insurance claim and that was the company i had to use. second time: i decided to give them one more chance. i dealt with larry who is quite personable. but he uses that to get you to spend more and buy. and i did. i still liked him. i did much research before buying carpet this time. larry showed me what i wanted (or so i thought). so i spent much, much more for my carpet and a better grade of padding. i love my carpet. it was exactly what i wanted. however, it is just 2 years old (july). it is not wearing well at all in some areas. i live by myself, and i don't think it should wear so poorly. plus many seams are quite evident which makes me unhappy. so mr. boyd came out to look at my carpet shortly after buying it because it was already showing signs of wear. i keep a very clean home. mr. boyd game me some money back for my purchase. but what am i going to do. i thought the carpet and padding had long term warranties. as i noted, i live by myself and i'm not around much. i cannot afford new carpet. i cannot afford to pay for the labor if that is a choice. but i would not feel so horrible about this company if they looked at it again and gave me options. otherwise, this is it for me. Sunday May 5, 2013 we purchased carpet which was expertly installed Tuesday, June 4, 2013. The total, including a down payment of $1,100 and a paid COD of $2,296.00 was $3,396.00 This transaction has been a series of misrepresentations and errors for which Jim Boyd's Flooring America refuses to accept responsibility. The lack of attention to detail is clear and compelling. It begins with a change order which shows that due to slightly more carpet needed than originally believed there was an increase of $96. That was understandable. A revision showed a down payment of $1,150 (it was $1,100). This was followed by another with amounts corrected. When we purchased the carpet our salesman, Bill Gould, told my wife June and I that we had 30 days and if we were not happy with the carpet, they would either remove the carpet and pad with a full refund, or exchange it. We were also told that the carpet carried a lifetime warranty on it. Subsequently when this whole fiasco reared its ugly head, the store manager, Larry Hunt, denied having such a 30-day policy, which leads us to wonder if the "lifetime warranty" exists either. The salesman was busy that day and had to attend to other customers besides us. The carpet for which we signed up was called Riverfest. There are hundreds, even thousands, of various carpets, grades and names among the various manufacturers. It is safe to assume that the public would not know one name from another such as Riverfest, Riverfest II, etc. Mr. Gould showed us several types of carpets. Once we settled on the brand and with all the promised guarantees that were conveyed to us, my wife made it emphatically clear that we wanted the more dense, sturdier carpet of the Riverfest. It was a credit to Mr. Gould that we fully trusted him and we believed that our salesman wrote the correct model identifier for what we ordered and chose. We signed the order with the full belief that he paid attention and that we were on the same page. We would not have known how to double check. In fact, June returned to the store a day or two after the purchase to select a slightly darker color. At that time she again pointed to the carpet we were ordering to the woman with whom she spoke. My wife and I chose the same carpet together and together heard the salesman say that we had 30 days. To hang this on us because we "signed" it is to accept no responsibility for the fact that care was not taken to be sure that all the details of the purchase were reiterated to make sure we were all on the same page of understanding. If that would have been done, the error would have been discovered on the spot and we would have cancelled the deal. We have no interest in the carpet that was installed. Needless to say, the carpet we received and that which we ordered is NOT the same carpet chosen at the store at the time of sale. There is no way we would have chosen that low grade of carpet especially at that price. We meticulously looked at numerous samples and settled on one. Now they state they are "willing" to remove the carpet at their expense and with us paying the difference to install what we originally ordered. Under the circumstances of a combination of their misrepresentations and negligence, this is totally unacceptable. We want what we were told we were getting. . Mr. Gould was throwing out a number of discounts, which we appreciated. We are talking about a small townhome and 680 sq. ft (their measurement) on the second floor. After two arduous days preparing for the installation, the three-man crew arrived with the head mechanic doubled over in excruciating pain. He said they were going to have to postpone the installation. My home office was dismantled and the crew was told that if the installation did not happen that day, we would have to cancel. After about 1-1/2 hours, the crew started the installation. After they left we saw that the installed carpet was not what we ordered and is an inferior grade, with very little pile. A majority of people would not know a manufacturer's designation for the hundreds of carpets. We assumed that the carpet he wrote on the sale was the same as what we chose. It was not and they will not accept that. There are two solutions acceptable to us: (1) Install the denser sturdier carpet we picked out and believed we were buying, or (2) Remove all carpet and padding and provide a 100% refund Short of this we are prepared, ready and able to pursue this matter continuously, actively and vigorously via a variety of legal entities, consumer groups and various media online and offline. read more

If you want 'final' charges that they later amend in their favor, inaccurate measurements, long waits, unreturned phone calls, missed communications among sales, installation and customer, a grumpy installer, and several subsequent problems with the job, this is your place. I love Jim Boyd's Flooring America! I needed carpet for stairs leading from the main floor of my house to the unfinished lower level. I did not want to spend a crazy amount since this stairway is seldom used but wanted a good look! Larry, who is the manager suggested I look in the back room where they have great bargains on the end of rolls! I did find a beautiful Karastan piece of carpet that was exactly what I was looking for! I set up a time for them to come measure the area - they were very flexible with the time frame since I do work - they arrived on time and quickly measured the area. I heard from Larry within 48 hours with pricing, set up an installation time and within 2 weeks my stairs were completed. The carpet installers again arrived on time and did an excellent job! I am very busy and I must say Jim Boyd's Flooring America made it easy and affordable! Not sure how many flooring stores would have directed me to the bargain room! Worst service ever! Sales person very nice and tried to help. HOWEVER.... It took almost 2 months for them to complete my job that was to take 2 weeks. Put laminate kitchen floor in upside down and then wanted to patch it. No..order another floor. Refinished hardwood - very nice except where they had to patch looks terrible. Said for me to wait a few years and it will look better! What?? Everytime they called to get paid, I told them the job was not completed. They came back numerous times until completed, only after I told them it was not done.They do not follow up on anything! Terrible customer service just lip service. Hands down this is the worst experience I've ever had with a vendor and I've been dealing with various home improvement vendors for over 30 years!. I cannot understand their business practice. I have a relatively small flooring area ~ 220 sq ft and chose this company based solely on radio ads and impressive showroom. Big mistake! Flooring "designer" Diane Woisch came to my house to suggest flooring options and take measurements. So far so good. She set up an appointment for me to come in to the store and look at flooring samples. No problem, I chose a suitable material wrote up a contract, and paid half up front. Now from the time I set foot in the store to the time I chose a flooring material (vinyl), signed the sales contract, paid, and walked out took maybe 1/2 hour. From a salesperson's perspective, I would think that I was the ideal customer. Then nothing. No response form Miss Woisch. I was expecting some form of communication from her, a phone call, email, something, to let me know when to expect installation to take place. 1 week goes by and I call but get directed to her voicemail so I leave a message for her to call because I'd like to know when I can expect an install. And again nothing. No return call. I wait 2 days. No return call. I call back and again get directed to her voicemail. Finally after the 4th call, I actually get through to her but she offers no apology for not calling me back. Nothing. She then tells me that the installers will be arriving the following day which gave me only 1 day advance notice. The install fell on a Friday which meant I needed to take the day off from work. The installers arrived late the day of and didn't complete the job. Now it's been 2 weeks since the initial incomplete install. I've called 4 times to find out what's going on with my job and each time get put through to her voicemail. No return calls. Yesterday, I received a call from the "sales manager" shortly after explaining my frustration to their phone receptionist, I don't remember his name but he's all apologetic, saying things like "that's not the way we do business" and "we want to make sure that you're satisfied", "I'll get to the bottom of this" yada-yada-yada, and then the coup de gras "I'll call you right back" What a slap in the face. Needless to say Mr. sales manager has yet to call back. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they're behaving like this. I've done absolutely nothing to provoke such a response. I've since contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge. Maybe after the sale get's revoked they'll wake up. I paid a premium price for extremely poor (non-existent) customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Save your money. You'll have better control over your job if you hire someone off of CraigsList! UFB! read more

My husband and I had an Incredible experience at Jim Boyd's Flooring America! We floored our Entire house there, with an engineered hardwood on the first floor and carpet for the entire 2nd floor, basement, and above garage office. From the moment we walked in the door Cathy was attentive, thorough, organized, knowledgeable about All the products, patient and truly had our best interest at heart when it came to pricing and quality. They even worked with us for a line of credit and were Very Patient and Fair with all payments. AND were extremely patient when the wood floor we ordered came in sooner than expected and they stored it for several months at no charge. When it came to the install, they worked with our schedules and willingly came back to correct some minor issues. Every time we went to the store everyone from Cathy and other sales people, the manager Larry and the owner, Jim Boyd, were welcoming, friendly and helpful. I can Not imagine that anyone would have or had a bad experience here?!? They have an amazing variety of flooring from lower priced selections to mid-grade to Beautiful high end carpet, wood floors and tile. AND a great variety of marked down options and they always seem to be running a special. Something for everyone and every project. I have even returned for a second visit for a house we are flipping and once again, wonderful service. I also plan to work with them on flooring for a second project as well!!
