I've shopped at this store for 40+ years. Of course it moved across the street during that time. On the plus side, this location has a great garden section. The plants are very well cared for thanks to an employee named Lawrence. Lawrence has mega knowledge about plants, fertilizers, weed killers and how to treat garden pests. On the downside, I have spent time searching for an employee to help me. They just do not seem to care. I was looking for a specific tool. The young woman was stocking something. So she points to one of several isles . No walking me back to be sure I found what I wanted. Looking at fertilizers. Here again a man was stocking but did not offer to help. Poor customer service. If I am desperate I go there but I much prefer the Weaverville store. read more

They have everything you need! I live around the corner and have realized that I can find just about anything here. It's not just nails toilet paper...cat food...dish soap...mosquito repellent...even saved Santa from not bringing enough stocking stuffers! They even give my dog a treat when we visit. Sorry, but I love my local ACE. I go in, they give me popcorn, I stroll about looking at seeds and birdfeeders...then I ask..."what is a good mousetrap that is no kill?" They sell me an expensive trap...and it has caught about 15-20 mice. It freakin works. They gave me the best deal on a snow shovel and made be buy a cheaper one. I take a random bolt there to match and they help me find it. Love my local ACE. read more

I love coming to this location b/c they give away free popcorn. So anytime, I'm craving a snack & need a household good, I stop by. In fact, I looked at the popcorn ingredients one day to confirm that there is no transfat in the fake butter packets that they use. There was a bunch of chemicals to get the popcorn yellow colored, but I let that slide. Anyway, today, I came in and had a painful splinter in my finger. So when the greeter asked me how I was doing, I told him about the splinter. He offered to use their tweezers in their handy first aid kit to get it out for me. And he did it!! Now, that's what I call caring service. I'll pay an extra dollar for toilet paper just to have an excuse to pop in, eat my popcorn and enjoy my time at Ace hardware. read more

In my opinion, a rude and racist assistant manager Michael makes this place unshoppable. My wife, of African descent rented a carpet cleaner. It was dirty when she got it and had to wash it. The hose attachment had a leak and could not be used. When she tried to return it the next day, the store had closed early to have an employee retreat. So I drove her to return it today. She came out quite upset, saying she was being charged for a full extra day, even though they had told her she would get a two day rental for only a few dollars more if it happened. Additionally, she did try to return it and they were closed early. So I went in to talk to the manager with her. He was very rude and arrogant. And since he controlled the deposit, he took it and then demanded a $1.70 more - which my wife gave him accidentally $1.60. He announced very loudly that he needed a dime more. As I walked to the door, I heard my wife say it just wasn't right and he responded in very condescending way with a classic racist trope - if you learned how to return things on times you wouldn't be paying for it. I turned and told him that was inappropriate, he smirked. So I am writing this and denouncing his bad behavior. He clearly, in my opinion, assumed a bigoted stance toward my wife when she was alone talking to him and when my back was turned, tried to do it again. He should be fired. I want to make very clear, this is not about the money. We own a resort in WNC and I own a marketing company. It is the principle of how to treat people. read more

Had to buy an old-skool broom. Long story. This Ace Hardware has stuff other Ace stores don't carry. Like cool chalk paint. But the Christmas stuff had a lot of "made in China" labels. BOOOO! The staff was very, friendly. Go! Ace! read more

I love the Weaverville Ace and the nice people who work there. Lowes always has new employees which is a sign of discontent. But the employees at Ace seem to be happy and show it in their helpfulness. They also have a great chainsaw and lawn mower repair guy who knows what he is doing. Ace is my first choice. Worth the trip. Rumor is they are moving across the street to where the Ingles garden center used to be so they can carry more good stuff. read more

I moved to Asheville a year ago and have used this store for purchases ranging from specialized light bulbs to potting soil. They have also given advice and information about trash pickup, garden pests, and how to make small repairs. The place is full of helpful employees! Today I chose to buy a weed whacked there instead of a bigger store. Why? Because someone was readily available to discuss the choices and give the brands' track records. Then they took it out of the box, put it together, and showed me how to use its features. Then they registered the warranty for me and encouraged me to return if I had any questions or problems or even needed a blade changed. No need to worry about saving receipt because they saved the info. I love this store. read more

Basic visit today to get some keys made. Was immediately greeted, and when I said I needed keys made they directed me to the back. The gentleman making keys was helping someone else, and once finished helped those of us in line and was just really funny. You can tell he enjoys his job. Then when I went to the front to pay the cashier was just really pleasant. Very polite and respectful, as well as informative. She signed me up for an ACE rewards card, and told me all of the advantages. Perfect experience from beginning to end. And the keys work!!! read more

Forget the popcorn. Went in to get a black oxide 11/32 drill bit--very specific. I asked an employee to help me find this, and he takes me down the aisle for screws--even I know the difference between a screw and a drill bit. Wasted 15 minutes getting help looking for this one simple item. They need employees who actually know the inventory. read more

After making yet another useless trip to Lowe's to get salt or ice melt during a major snow-melt and refreeze here, I remembered this place. In 2004 when we had the big flood, they still had batteries. And today, they had all kinds of ice melt, snow shovels, etc. Very pleasant staff and they get two trucks a week to restock: that's why they have stuff when you need it most! It has the atmosphere of a neighborhood place, too. People talk to each other in line! Although,another plus---the lines were short! I've already started a list of hard-to-find items for another trip here next week. read more

These folks are the best at this Ace location: helpful, courteous, friendly. They seem to always have everything I need and if not, they order it shipped to the store. Also, great services like tune up's on your lawn mower or leaf blower. I never go to the big box stores any longer, because this Ace is just so convenient, cost-effective and the people are wonderful. read more

You get what you pay for !! You can drive across town to either of the hardware store giants, get little or no trustable info or help, probably pay less, not taking into consideration the time to get there and back, the cost of gas and wear and tear on your vehicle , or, you can pull in to the local Ace, get immediate trustworthy help, be on your way and pay a little bit more. Had a pretty bad experience in this store today. While trying to find new deadbolts for our new house, my wife and baby stroll away and I'm left holding our baby bag. A couple of minutes later a security guard comes out of nowhere stating in a loud voice that I'm going to have to go leave the bag by the front register and he offers to escort me there if I need help. Now, I'm not sure if they are having a problem with people stealing deadbolts but that's what the cameras are for and that's not how you treat customers. From my perspective it was fairly clearly a case of me being a minority (latino) which is making the racist security guy twitchy. Nobody else is being harassed about purses or backpacks but apparently my baby bay with spare diapers and a baby bottle is about to be an accessory to theft. Needless to say I went and got the wife who was picking out Benjamin Moore paint and left and won't be coming back. Thankfully, I've haven't had this problem in Asheville before and doubt it'll happen much again but it did today at ACE Hardware and I won't be going back again. read more
